Came here for dinner with my husband and was honestly surprised by how nice it was. We went on a weekday, so it was pretty quiet. The service was great though, our server was really kind and attentive. The food was delicious, with generous portions and reasonable pricing for Tonkatsu. I got the cheese one and loved it, and my husband's udon was flavorful. I also added spicy tuna roll on the side with my set, and it was also delicious. My husband and I decided to try Gyu Jinya because we were craving Japanese food and wanted to check out a new spot. For the food, we actually enjoyed what we ordered. My husband got the pork katsu and I tried the shabu shabu. Both dishes were flavorful and definitely satisfied our Japanese food craving. Unfortunately, the service experience did not match the food. When we first arrived, one of the servers gave us a heads up that they were busy and service might be slower than usual. We completely understood and appreciated the warning. However, after waiting about 20 minutes, we realized our order still had not been taken and it seemed like we were accidentally forgotten. We understand things can get overwhelming during a rush, so we tried to be patient. What stood out more was the overall lack of attentiveness and welcoming atmosphere from the service side. Some of the interactions felt cold, and one of the servers in particular seemed visibly annoyed and like she did not want to be there. As customers, a simple friendly check-in or update goes a long way, especially when the wait times are longer than usual. It took about an hour for us to receive our food. We also noticed other customers looking frustrated, and saw guests walk in, stand near the entrance for several minutes without being greeted or acknowledged, and eventually leave. Overall, the food itself was good and we can see the potential here, but the customer service really needs improvement. Long waits can happen, especially during busy hours, but feeling ignored or unwelcome makes the experience less enjoyable. With better communication and more attentive service, this place could be so much better. read more

This was our first time trying Gyu Jinya in Quartz Hill, and overall we had a good experience. The restaurant itself is really nice aesthetically very clean, light, airy, and modern. We went around lunchtime and it was pretty empty, so we were able to choose our own table and relax. We told the waitress it was our first time there, so we ordered a little bit of everything to try different items on the menu. We ordered the ribeye shabu-shabu hotpot, cheese tonkatsu, a kids chicken katsu meal, and the fire dragon roll. The ribeye hotpot was good, and I would order it again. The only thing is that the broth tasted more like a basic soup base rather than a rich, deeply flavored broth that's been simmered for hours like some other hotpot places. Still enjoyable, just not super flavorful. The cheese tonkatsu was interesting to try, but personally not my favorite. It was basically fried chicken topped with a lot of cheese. The girls there mentioned it's a popular dish, but it just wasn't for me. I probably wouldn't order that again. The fire dragon roll was okay too. Despite the name, it wasn't spicy, and it could've used a little more flavor overall. The regular chicken katsu was a safe option for our child since he doesn't eat spicy food. Service was good, prices were fair, and the portions were generous. We actually ended up taking leftovers home because there was a lot of food. Overall, I would come back and try different things on the menu. Even though a couple dishes weren't exactly my taste, it was still a good experience and worth trying if you're looking for a local spot in Quartz Hill. read more

Then for the tab we had to ask for it (even though other tables that had gotten there after us had already checked out) they didn't come pick it up or didn't instruct us to bring it to the register. I love this little gem - they have very good food; it's just a neat little place. This is a place you should go as we don't always have a lot of great choices in the AV - but this is a good one!!! Good service, good music - i like the waitress, she has really good energy and makes good recommendations. This place is so cute on the inside with little whale lanterns. The lady who served us our food was so sweet! Inside there was cabbage,carrot,corn,enoki mushrooms, yam and lettuce. Not a lot of udon. Chili paste is $1 extra. The ambience was lovely and the service was good and timely. We came here for some decent Japanese food, and I was a bit skeptical because AV isn't particular the home of a wide diversity of Asian food compare to down in LA and OC. However, it didn't disappoint. We ordered some appetizers, and the gyoza and katsu stick were pretty good. The texture was crispy and flavorful. The main star of the show was the Angus Sirloin Tip Gyukatsu Zen. I loved the taste, texture and smell of the sirloin. The food was sooo good and even better with great company. This place is such a good find! The service was excellent, we were checked on continuously but not an annoying amount, the people were polite and kind and the food came out pretty quickly but not too quickly that it's concerning. The ambiance is peaceful and feels very authentic and traditional of Japanese cuisine. For appetizers we got the shoestring potato shrimp and the bbq vegetable egg rolls. Both were cooked really really well, so good and tender and crispy and delicious. For our main course we split the Nabemono soup, spicy with miso broth and shrimp, and the 12 oz angus New York strip gyukatsu. While the meat was pretty good and the sauces they provided were good, the soup was the real star of the show, the udon noodles were perfectly textured and there was so much flavor. For dessert we had the Yuzu cheesecake, it was small but we were so stuffed after our meal that it was the perfect pallet cleanser and didn't push us over the edge. 2 appetizers, 2 entres, and a dessert for 2 costed us around $110 and filled us up. Reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 5: -they were out of like 4 of the food items we asked for/were interested in. -could provide more sauce on the side for their foods. -I would have liked to see a tea with no caffeine on the menu.
