I am kicking myself for not trying this place sooner. Spoiler alert - this place is FAN-FLIPPING-TASTIC and we will include this in our rotation of favorite restaurants moving forward. After a weeknight evening hike, we decided we did not want to cook and were in the Bigfork area. We checked yelp and this place popped up, I wasn't sure why I never noticed this restaurant before, so we decided as part of our plans to try new places, stopped in. First, the service was outstanding - the gentleman that greeted us, and then was our server was pleasant and friendly. Second, we sat on the patio on this lovely warm evening and it was very nice. I popped indoors to use the restroom and the dining room looks great, too! We were overwhelmed by the number of seafood choices we had - it's not often I look at a menu and have to debate between 3 different meals that sound good, being that I am pescatarian. I ordered the Snapper Piccata and my partner ordered the Halibut special. We started with garden salads and they were fresh and delicious. Our meals were outstanding! The piccata sauce on the snapper was just what you want - bright lemony flavors with tasty capers. The halibut disappeared before I could ask, so I think he really liked it. We decided to try dessert and the chocolate mousse cake was decadent and a great way to finish the meal. Like I said - we will include this in our rotation of go-to restaurants, and we will bring guests here - we loved it. read more

Let's just start by saying that this was the best Burrata Caprese I've ever had. I could have made that a meal! But we had more. My husband had the Lasagna and I had the Classic Shrimp Scampi. The sauce on the scampi was absolutely amazing! Again, best I've ever had. The flavor was so good!! My husbands Lasagna Bolognese was a big serving and just as tasty. We ended up getting boxes to take home. The French Press coffee was a perfect ending to our meal. I wish I'd had room for the dessert, they all sounded amazing. Do yourself a favor and go visit and ask for Gene! The service is amazing from start to finish. Gene was wonderful as well as everyone else there. It's small but cozy with a great vibe! We will visit again when we come back! read more

This was my first time coming to Great Northern Gourmet and I will definitely be coming back next time I visit Bigfork. They make great quality food that is so delicious! From the appetizers all the way to the entrees, I enjoyed every bite. The food was so rich in flavor, you can tell the chef cares about what he does. I recommend trying the Lobster Mac & Cheese, that had to be one of my favorite dishes that I tried. They also had a lot of non-alcoholic drink options and mocktails. The customer service was great. My party had 14 people, including 7 kids, and our server handled serving us like it was nothing. I even enjoyed the decor on the walls, it cretaed a unique & original vibe to the restaurant. Loved it. read more

We went with some friends and my vegetarian daughter. The chef made accommodations for my daughter's vegetarian needs. The food was delicious. We have been trying to find a nice place to eat in the Bigfork area. Especially after the other nice place to eat closed when the chef left. The service was great, the food was delicious and it's just a nice little place to get a great meal. I believe the menu has changed a bit from what is posted here. But I also think the chef changes the menu regularly based on food and produce available (might be wrong if it's seasonal changes, or just happenstance). Highly recommend this place if you want a nice quiet meal with some personal touches to the service and food. read more

Food is 100% off the charts amazing!! Shannon, our server, was absolutely lovely and beyond gracious! The perfection of the food and the quality of each ingredient is worth every penny spent and every moment awaiting its arrival. read more

The Great Northern has been around for ages and even though it's been passed from owner to owner and chef to chef it's remained a go to for me for Bigfork dining. My recent favs are the Duck Fat fries with Homemade Ketchup and the Reuben. Love eating outside with a view of the Lake and a Bucket of Champagne. Great restaurant to just be lazy at and enjoy the moment. read more

We had a wonderful meal while visiting the area. You can taste the quality of ingredients, especially the meats. It truly felt like a really excellent home cooked meal. Wine list was pretty unique, had a recommendation and enjoyed my glass! read more

Absolutely amazing experience here. We had driven from Bozeman and were very tired and hungry. We were treated so well and the food was incredible. We had the surf and turf and it did not disappoint. Can't wait to go back! read more

Been here more than once and we will be back soon. The night we went was unfortunate for the owners. We were the last table served because the AC went out, they lost their hood vent and internet service with in a hour. The food was excellent the service was just as good. Hopefully things run smoothly for them the rest of the busy summer season. read more

Outstanding food. They also really know their wines. My wife and I went there for our anniversary and were thrilled to see Ruby Snapper on the menu. It so hard to find different fish out other than salmon or fish & chips. Loved everything about this place. We will be back! read more

Great Northern Gourmet - Interior - Delis Near Me - Bigfork, Montana

We are just visiting the BigFork area and found this gem walking by. What a delicious dinner. Amazing mussels and clams with a flavorful broth and a nice elevated take on the Caesar salad. We will definitely go back! Highly recommend! read more

Excellent menu. I've been twice and I love it. The beet salad is the best I've ever had.

Just had the Turkey Brie sandwich and the duck fat fries with the black pepper aioli. AMAZING! The sandwich had melted Brie, apples, turkey, and a huckleberry sauce on a toasted sourdough bun. Fair warning, the bread can rough up your mouth so bite carefully. Lol The duck fat fries are so flavorful. read more

I visited the Great Northern Gourmet during the Covid restrictions, and even within those parameters, I was very pleased with my dining experience. First off, I sat outside on the patio. It overlooks the water which is just across the road. It was shady and perfect on a hot summer day. GNG has a fairly extensive wine list , and since I was by myself, I appreciated that a good amount were available by the glass. I had a lovely French red blend and it was a very nice wine for only $11 a glass. I had the garden salad and while they were out of my first choice, the lemon tarragon dressing, i had the tomato basil vinaigrette. Very nice and refreshing. Finally I had the short rib hunters ragout. So much umami flavor. I was loving every minute of it. Wish I had more room left for desert because the stuff the table next to me had looked amazing. read more

Small and quaint, love the patio and service. We had the lobster mac and cheese, it was delish. Everything we had was really good. Great wine list. read more

Visit was in May 2023. I really wanted to like this place. Service gets 2 stars; food gets 4 stars. We got a weird vibe as soon as we walked in the door. Friday evening supper around 6:30 pm. A lady yelled from the back of the restaurant, "Sit wherever!" She chatted with a younger hostess for awhile, then the younger girl brought us menus which she tossed on the table rather than handing us each one. Then she filled our water, all without saying a single word. Finally the waitress (maybe owner?) came to our table to see if we wanted a drink. We ordered wine, which she poured but did not set on our table. We had to get it from the bar. (Our table was right next to the bar, but still.) she finally came back and took our food order. She was inside, outside, back in the kitchen, etc. but not really doing anything. Another table came in and the chef clearly knew them as he came out of the kitchen and chatted with them and talked about the menu. Waitress disappeared during this. Chef went back into kitchen and waitress took their drink order. They asked for a wine recommendation and I couldn't believe her reply. She said, "well, I have some red bottles I need to use up." Wow!! She actually said that. read more

Great food and great atmosphere . The owners are awesome passionate people . So glad to have them in Bigfork.

Excellent food. Good wine list. The ambiance was a little suspect, however. We could plainly hear the head cook yelling at another cook in the kitchen. That, coupled with our server whose conversation with us varied between indifference and bizarre. We couldn't wait to leave, in spite of how good the food was. It was a very strange experience. Food - five stars, service and ambiance - one star. Overall - three stars. read more

Excellent food! We enjoyed the burrata caprese and the bucatini with meatballs. Great

I still can't stop lusting after the food and drink selections from this place. My family and I were in town to visit family, and wound up here by chance. Really wasn't expecting much as a lot of food in Montana tends to be heavy, bland, and/or heavily processed. Definitely not the case here. The salad was super fresh and tasty, the meat and cheese plate was huge and delicious, the bison burger and duck fat fries were... well hell they had me at duck fat. Their margarita pizza was light, flavorful and satisfying. Great beer and wine selections. Had a coffee beer there that I seriously want right now and am not so sure they sell anywhere near me. Had one of the best white wines of my entire life, and couldn't believe the price because it was just that good. I really wanted to try their desserts, but was so full I had to pass, but still took a chocolate chip cookie to go nonetheless. On top of their awesome food, they stayed open late for us. We drove into town late, showed up at their restaurant probably 5 min before we got there. They were already shutting the place down, but fired everything back up for us. I was expecting them to act irritated with us showing up like that, and instead they were grateful for our business and stayed highly attentive during our time there. I'm getting hungry just thinking about this place!! read more

I watched the waitess pour water into 2 glasses of wine the waiter was getting ready to take to a table! I couldnt believe what i saw!!

Food gets the three starts, service gets zero. Phenomenal food, and some of the worst attitude I've ever gotten from a server, which is comical since she is the owner. If you like that kind of thing, you'll love this place. read more

The food was mediocre and overpriced. The Beet Salad was the only item I would recommend. The server was not trained to work at a restaurant and did not want to be there. Kind of a strange experience. There are many better options in Big Fork. read more

I was able to take my grandma to lunch & it was the perfect place. We sat on the outside patio and had awesome service and food. We both got the pesto chicken panini or sandwich. Yum. We will definitely be back...I think this might be our new "date" spot. read more

Food was terrible. Ordered a dish with"pan seared" ahi. Was completely overcooked, more than well done! When I advised them it was inedible and NOT pan seared I was told the ahi that day wasn't very red. I had to explain what pan seared was and show her. There wasn't even pink anywhere on or in the ahi. They replaced it, but with a portion more than 1/2 the size smaller. My friend ordered the braised short ribs and meat was all fatty, and swimming in a watery sauce with pasta. Completely disappointed, and definitely off the list read more

We were in town visiting the area for a few days and had dinner here one night. The food was absolutely incredible. So creative, fresh, nuanced and perfectly presented. This chef has some serious cooking chops! Both my husband and I were knocked out by what we ordered and the portions were so plentiful, we walked out with leftovers for a whole other meal! How can that be bad, I ask you?!?! Definitely recommend for foodies and individuals looking for nice wine or cocktails. This place has it all! read more

Good menu and location. My husband and I came here at 6:00pm and only had a glass of wine each on a Tuesday without a reservation. We understood there were people there before us who were going to a play starting at 7:00pm. We went to our hotel after our glass of wine because we understood they were short staffed and couldn't get dinner. We came back after the crowed was gone to hopefully enjoy dinner at 7:00. We placed our order and waited. While we waited we watched the entire patio be seated and served their dinner ...all 7 tables. At 9:30pm we asked for our check to go back to our hotel. We were only served a bottle of wine and salads. Our dinner was served to a table next to us who was seated and hour after us. We were patient and were kind but it was not a good night for us. I'm glad the table next to us and all 6 other tables received their orders. It's Covid. Stay home. read more

Just ordered shrimp scampi and fettuccini Alfredo to-go for my wife and I's one year anniversary. Shrimp was fishy and over cooked, rice was undercooked, chicken was way over cooked, and it was mostly inedible. All for $90. This hostess was very sweet and this place used to serve great food... but I would not recommend to anyone based off of today's experience. read more

This restaurant is amazing. I have been twice while in Bigfork on vacation, and each time it was the best tuna melt I've ever had. Perfection takes time so give yourself a few extra minutes if you are headed somewhere. The staff is very attentive and kind. My friend had the roast beef and raved about it. Another friend had the turkey and loved it. read more

Very good food! We are in the area for a week and we're driving back to whitefish from a day trip to Missoula and we're looking for some grub on the drive back. We read about this place and gave it a shot. We were not disappointed! We got the lasagna, beef tenderloin, and shrimp scampi. Everyone was very happy with their choices! read more

I really wanted to like this place after so many friends and neighbors had enjoyed a meal here. But aside for a yummy appetizer and some decent Pinot Grigio, the food was disappointing and the service very slow. Our dessert was terrible too. Two tables of people left mid meal while we were eating, they didn't seem very happy either. I don't think I'm coming back. read more

We ate here THREE TIMES over a five day visit and were NEVER even close to disappointed. The flavors of the food were vibrant, with every key ingredient coming forward. The service was impeccable; "Blake" remembered us and treated us with friendly respect. I can't say enough good things about this place. We will be back every time we visit. read more

Great menu and fantastic service. (If not packed) A mid sized place so not fast food style. Worth the wait.

Great selection of wines and cheeses. The patio is cool and comfortable while hangin by the river/lake. Enjoyed the every minute while sippin on some Pinot Gris. Def stopping by again to chill! read more

Visiting the area and thought we'd try out this restaurant. Unfortunately, our visit wasn't as pleasant as we had hoped. Our first experience with our server, a young man, is after he overheard me telling my husband that I heard the duck fries were good, he came up and told us they had no duck fat, so could not make the fries. He also said they had no caesar dressing. Soon afterwards, two of the employees or owners, began arguing about being closed for lunch because of a catering job they had. My husband and I became anxious as they continued to go back and forth, as if they forgot we were sitting there. My husband ordered the shrimp scampi and mentioned how one of his shrimp tasted slimy, and others tough. The sauce was very liquidy. I ordered the beef tenderloin. The food presentation was very nice. The cast iron pan was so hot, that my mashed potatoes ended up with a brown crust on them. It took awhile for my food to cool down enough for me to eat it. Beef tenderloin was a bit overcooked from the medium rare I ordered (possibly the flaming hot pan continued to cook it), but the very center piece was good. Mashed potatoes had good flavor, as did the asparagus. Location is nice. You can sit outside and have a nice view of the water. Also, it is walking distance to the cute street in Big Fork. read more

Stopped in for lunch while exploring the area. Great sandwiches on fresh breads with choices that include sourdough and multigrain. The tuna sandwich is made from an actual tuna steak not canned tuna. The BLT had thick slices of crispsy bacon. Service was prompt and friendly. read more

The food was amazing. Unfortunately the service was so slow we had a tough time enjoying our experience. We had to follow up on our order and drinks. We wanted dessert but we're worried we would be there another hour. This is the second time I have tried the restaurant and had the same level of service. Unfortunate to say we won't be back. read more

We had dinner here last night. Everything was great from start to finish. We both had pasta dishes for the main meal-both were to die for. My wife had the French onion soup and I had the 'simple' green salad which was glorious with a choice of dressings. Finally the wine list was excellent-we had a red wine from South Africa which was excellent! read more

This place is a real gem in Bigfork, MT. A must stop, if you are driving through. Gourmet foods and groceries. Neil makes all of his soups and stocks from scratch.
