We came here for a Sunday brunch to finalize our girls' weekend. We were a party of 5 and got seated within 20 minutes of arrival. Parking is horrible so be prepared to park in the neighborhood and walk. This is a leisurely place to dine. Despite having quite a bit of servers, it took awhile for food to come out as well as water refills. We were in the middle of the patio area so there were always servers walking by but just not attentive to our table. The pancakes were not the greatest. It was just a dollop of peanut butter on top with a fried banana. Those did not taste the greatest. Everything else we ordered was pretty good. We brought my husband for Father's Day and it was such a dad place to be! The portions on the French toast, pancakes, and table side beignets were massive! We ordered one ordered of the French toast logs on their own, one order of the French toast logs with fried chicken, the banana pancakes with peanut butter, and fried banana, and one American breakfast. For drinks we had the mimosa flight, and a hot latte. The service was great out on the patio and the ambiance was lovely. Brendyn was a great server and so kind. After passing by this spot countless times, I finally made it in and overall, it was a solid experience with a few things worth noting. First off, the location is right in the heart of Hillcrest near the DMV, so it's definitely a busy area. There IS parking, but fair warning.... the spaces are tight. There's only one way in and one way out, which gets pretty congested. With it being such a popular breakfast spot, there were a lot of people (including families) waiting outside, and it felt crowded. A larger or more organized waiting area would really improve the experience. That said, once we got inside, things definitely picked up. The host was kind and got us seated pretty quickly, which I appreciated. The interior design is beautiful very spacious, airy, and thoughtfully put together. Each table had a small flower vase (looked real!), which added a really nice touch. Service-wise, Edgar took great care of us. He was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, which always makes a difference. For food, we ordered the steak with truffle fries and the French toast. The steak was requested medium but came out more well done than wanted. The truffle fries were really good, though. The French toast portion is HUGE definitely shareable. Personally, I would've preferred the syrup on the side because the bottom layer was pretty soaked, which gave it more of an eggy texture. That said, the bacon and blueberries paired really well and balanced it out nicely. Drinks were a bit of a mixed bag. The mimosas leaned heavily on the orange juice...more than I expected served in a more casual glass than I would've liked for the vibe of the place. The buttermilk chicken was insanely good. The waitress let me know I could substitute the thigh with a breast. So i ordered two breasts. They were so good and so moist. I can't stand dry chicken and this was nothing near. The donuts were huge and unexpected. They reminded me of fair food. When i bit into mine it felt super doughy and uncooked (i understand it was cooked thoroughly and this is just the texture of deep fried dough). It was heavy and dense. I had two bites and had to tap out. We took these home and ate these over the course of a two days. Quite a bit. As an overall complaint.. I'm not really for dog owners bringing their dogs INTO restaurants. As I understand the CDPH policies against non-service dogs in food facilities... i was surprised to be sat next to someone who had their dog on the booth bench and was feeding the dog from the table/plate. I've never seen a service dog doing that... I noticed a few employees stare at the dog eating on the bench and table and not say anything. Kinda gross. First time visiting for dinner. We started with the pistachio baked brie which was pretty good. I ordered the prime rib since the waiter raved about it, and I do like prime rib, but it's so hard to find a good one. This place wasn't the exception. I was super disappointed in the prime rib. It was super firm and tough to cut despite it's beautiful presentation. The mashed potatoes and asparagus paired perfectly with the meat too. The gravy was also really good! Too bad the cut was poor. I was excited when I saw it too because it was a huge piece of prime rib. Oh well! My husband thought the burger was good but nothing special. Service was okay. Everything is always nicely presented and sounds delicious in the description, but it always falls a little flat when I'm actually eating it. I should note that I tend to go for savory brunch options, so maybe they do better with the sweet ones! This past time I got the quiche of the day, which I felt was under salted and a little bland. Left that all to bae as it's smoked bacon syrup, brioche style cut and battered "fire logs", topped with fresh mountain blueberries + powdered sugar... He ate as much as he could, loved it but couldn't finish it. It's definitely a meal for two. Being the the plant-based foodie of the two of us I can say my, cilantro, charred kale, cinnamon glazed sweet potatoes, fresh avocado, garlic, harissa, mushrooms, onion, tomato, and yukon potatoes via the Vegan Hash was soooo delicious. I added a little hot sauce, ketchup and pepper to get it some more heat. And feel like love with this dish. Breakfast was such a hit here! First time being here and will absolutely be back. Ordered Johnny's Silver dollar pancakes with the French blueberry crumb and it was so delicious. I added the apple chicken sausage on the side, you don't see that option in most restaurants so that was nice ! and it just made the whole meal that much better. The ambience was great, lots of indoor and outdoor space for seating. Our waitress refilled our waters constantly without us asking and many staff members checked on us and made sure we had hot sauce and other condiments. This would be a perfect spot for a brunch date or a place to take out of town guests. It does get very busy though so make sure to get here a little early to avoid the crowds. I was hesitant about this place because of all the hype and some friends' mixed experiences, but my dining experience here was actually great! My entire table ordered only savory items but each one was executed very well. Nice quality ingredients, some interesting twists/additions to spice up the typical brunch fare. I had the hardwood smoked bacon scramble melt which was rich and came with these crispy rosemary potatoes which I loved. My partner had the smoked brisket hash, which I highly recommend. The brisket is not too fatty and super tender, the pepper hollandaise is heavenly, and I loved the fresh elements of the kale and tomatoes which both balanced the dish nicely. The potatoes soak up the brisket juices and the result is just incredibly savory umami goodness. Portions are generous, we all took home leftovers despite our food being so delicious we couldn't stop eating. Service was timely and friendly, and they brought out a whole plate with four different condiments for us to try when we asked for some butter. The fig jam and hot sauce were both great, I recommend asking for some! Also the restaurant week special comes with a blueberry scone which is to die for! Please put it on the regular menu! The ambiance is nice and combined with the presentation of the dishes, it's very instagram worthy. Outdoor seating is comfortable but sitting inside inundates you with wonderfully rich maple smells. My niece was going out to brunch in this area so I decided to check out this place out with my sister instead. I have heard about this restaurant for years and I have never gotten the chance to check it out. Parking is brutal, but that is to be expected. I ended up parking about 3 blocks away, there is a lot of construction in this area so that didn't help when finding parking. It was perfect timing since by the time I parked and made my way back, our table was ready. (I dropped my sister off first) This was Sunday around 1230 pm. (This was MLK as well) The place was packed by the time we sat down. There was numerous staff coming and going in all directions. The menu is insane, I feel like each item was carefully curated to have a blend of different tastes. My sister and I were debating among these 3 options: 1. House Smoked Brisket Hash- our famous slow smoked beef brisket, crispy yukon potatoes, white onions, charred kale, cherry tomato, smoked bacon, poached eggs red piquillo pepper hollandaise, chopped chive, served with fresh ciabatta bread - We ended up not getting this one, but maybe next time. 2. Great Maple French Dip- slow roasted ribeye steak, onion au jus, crispy onion, horseradish sour cream, french roll, served with pommes frites or mini salad - I got this, I have to say this was pretty good, the meat was not tough, but not really seasoned. I think more cheese, the meat itself should be seasoned more and the Au Jus wasn't too salty (while many are) but definitely needed more spices and more salt. The plate was insane. (mini salad and added fries were a plus) (Portions are quite large here, but the prices are somewhat high in my opinion) This would be an excellent dish if meat was seasoned more as well as the Au Jus. The bread itself would have been nice if buttered or toasted. 4/5 3. The server was nice and so were the bussers/food runner. Food: we ordered the French toast with added fried chicken and the Apple pie pancakes. I really enjoyed the French toast, it came with candied bacon bits on top. The crusting on the chicken did not fall off while cutting it which is nice, needed to add some salt. My husband enjoyed his apple pancakes and if you're an apple pie lover it definitely hits the spot with its granola crumble and apples on top. My husband also ordered the Salted Caramel budino con panna, it's basically a double shot espresso with salted caramel and whipped cream. He enjoyed it but said he would not order it again. Overall, would recommend giving it a try for brunch, there is something for everyone. Having a booster chair that holds a baby in a car seat would make it better. read more

Came here with a group of friends - service was great and food was pretty good. We made a reservation for an early time so we didn't have a wait. Their French toast with added fried chicken is huge portion! This can easily be shared by two people. Great combo of savory and sweet if you're craving that. Loved the Squash Blossom Hash! My favorite part was the squash blossom stuffed with goat cheese. I know some people don't like goat cheese but I love it! Hollandaise sauce was okay though. There is a reason this place is on the Michelin guide, and let me tell you, they earned it 100%! The exterior of the building looks like an old throw back to a dinner, old signage, single story, no frills. When you walk inside, it's a cute, slightly updated busy restaurant with waiters bustling about between tables. Our server was incredibly responsive, answered all kinds of questions and make excellent recommendations on what to order, including food and drinks off a seasonal menu! Food: ordered the Great Maple French Toast Logs brioche "fire log " cut and battered, smoked bacon syrup, topped with fresh mountain blueberries. Add buttermilk fried chicken or double smoked bacon. I am going to full stop right here. THIS IS one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten for breakfast. Topped with candied bacon chunks. Just wow.... Do not miss this, unless you have a gluten or dietary restriction. It's off the rails! Second dish: seasonal quiche, served with small bread sliced and toasted and a balsamic salad. My friend enjoyed it more than me, but that is because I like cheese in my quiche, not just broiled on top. Hands down, highly recommend! Ordered the maple donuts and the classic breakfast which came with your choice of sausage/bacon (I chose sausage), eggs, potatoes and toast. The maple donuts were a bit too batter heavy and sweet for my liking. Aside from that, the classic breakfast was delicious! The potatoes had a slight crisp and the jam that came with the toast was delicious! The jam tasted fresh and was tart. Also ordered a ginger beer which tasted nice and refreshing. Service was decent. The restaurant only has two bathrooms and is a bit on the smaller end. Not really worth the hype in my opinion but maybe I didn't order the items that they are known for. read more

We visited Great Maple for Sunday brunch without realizing it's been a Michelin-recommended spot for several years, so expectations were high. The wait was about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad considering the brunch rush, but parking was a real challenge -- especially with the Hillcrest Farmers Market taking up most of the nearby spots. Inside, the restaurant is lively and full of energy, but also very loud and tightly packed. Walking space between tables is almost nonexistent, so if you value elbow room, I'd recommend sitting at the bar or ordering to-go. We ordered the chilaquiles, brisket hash, pork belly, and French toast logs. Every dish was flavorful and well-executed -- meats were tender, portions generous, and nothing felt overly greasy or heavy. The brisket hash stood out for its depth of flavor, and the French toast logs were surprisingly balanced, not too sweet. Portions are large enough to share, and we definitely couldn't finish everything. Food: 4.5/5 - Excellent flavor and texture. Ambiance: 2/5 - Too loud and cramped for comfort. Service: 3.5/5 - Friendly but stretched thin due to crowd size. Overall, I'd give Great Maple a solid 4/5.
