Brewery #399 I started here on my brewery hopping day in Houston recently. Why did I start at Great Heights you ask? Because they open at 11am on Fridays! That may sound like no big deal; except they don't have a kitchen. They encourage day drinking. My people! I ordered a flight and they offer 6-beers in their flight. Again, my people! I got 3 different IPA's, a coffee stout, a kolsch, and a hefeweizen. I liked all of them but The Whammer hazy IPA was my favorite amongst them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere was relaxed and chill. The place had a few people enjoying a pint while looking at spreadsheets on their laptop, another guy all decked out in spandex (it's more fun saying it that way then saying a cyclist) and a few couples. Lots of plants so my ladyfriend would dig it too. The music was perfect for me and it ranged from Zeppelin to Earth Wind and Fire to The Smokey and the Bandit theme[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. This place is great for hosting events such as trivia and puzzle races. We came for a work event that hosted trivia one night and that so much fun. They're really good at serving the drinks and making sure our table was taken care of. I did enjoy the Blue Tile IPA. My friend had the St Arnold Root beer. I started following the venue and saw the puzzle race. This was a very popular spot this month for the puzzle race. We barely made it because parking is limited here. We didn't win but we had fun. They did check in on us from time to time during the race. I will say we came 20 mins early and parking is a mess so maybe come 30-40 mins before if you come to events like this to get a good parking spot. read more

Very chill spot to grab a hand-crafted brew and mingle with friends, go on a date, or have that period of solitude when all you want is a tasty beer/cider/hard seltzer to go with your thoughts. Interior contains some cool wall items with tvs for sports/events and there is inside and outside seating. Some inside seating uses barrels for tables which is a cool touch. And there's always some sort of food truck outside to pair with whatever beverages you decide on. Now for the beers, they've got a good selection of IPAs, pale ales, and non-beers such as ciders or hard seltzers. Their Blue Tile IPA and Hazy IPA are some of the better ones with a kicking citrus taste. As for pale ales, their Corvallis Pale Ale is easy to sip on. Best pale ale is their South Island pale ale, I think it's a permanent fixture on their menu (hopefully). If you're looking for fruity or sour, the Helen sour ale is a popular one. Some beers are in rotation which they'll have on their wall. And of course, you can get their beer to go to enjoy somewhere that's not in the brewery. Can't believe this is close to where I live and look forward to frequenting here more often! read more

Solid brewery! Friendly customer service and plenty of seating indoor and outdoor on the front patio. I went to Great Heights on a weekday afternoon which was nice because it wasn't too crowded and I had the whole outside area by myself to chill and read. I tried the fruity pellet IPA (shown in pic) which was pretty good. 6% ABV so I definitely felt it by the time I finished my glass lol. Very crisp and citrusy like flavor with no bad/bitter after taste. Brewery sells chips/snacks. No actual food during the hours that I stopped by but there does appear to be several food trucks along the road so I'm sure on the weekends/evening time there's a lot more food options. read more

Could not believe it when I looked this place up on yelp and saw it only had seven reviews. They are the only brewery I've found right now that has a beer on tap that I like...covehefe hefeweizen. It is so easy to drink and has a really nice banana-ish finish. I know I have limited beer taste, but I've been here with others who liked their fruity pellets IPA and the amber beer. Their glasses are cute, they have a bunch of board games, and they're normally ~$5 for most pints. There's food trucks around, but you can also pick up food to bring and eat here. If the temperature is manageable outside, they open the garage door, so take advantage of coming here for a beer when the weather is nice! read more

GHB is the perfect neighborhood craft brewery. It's bright, spacious and welcoming. The staff was friendly, but most importantly, the beer was good! Plus, most of their beers had ABVs of 6+! GHB also participates in Houston Beer Pass. I recommend adding them to your list and trying a flight! read more

Great place in the Heights to grab a craft brew. There's lots of IPAs to choose from here and the indoor area is really nice with a good volume of seating and eclectic artwork. They have trivia night here on Wednesdays with prizes that varies from pies to gift cards to the brewery. The bartenders are friendly and fast pourers and the brews are great. The restrooms are very clean. The women's restroom also has convenient things like feminine supplies, deodorant spray, and hair ties if you need them. There's also plenty of parking. read more

I had been here once before and LOVED the Fruity Pellets. Would continue to come back for that beer alone (especially because they're a smaller brewery and I couldn't find any of the beers at Specs). If you're like me and have fallen prey to the haze craze (NE IPA), then this is your spot. Great Heights has been around less than a year but has been turning out consistently delicious hazy beers, along with some more traditional west coast IPAs and even a house-made hef that the wife can drink. The place itself is on the smaller side, which we'll call "intimate," and is conveniently located just a few doors down from Petrol Station if you want to grab yourself a mighty burger. There is a food truck onsite, which I haven't sampled yet. Crowbar is also right next door if you're in the mood for something stronger than beer. My fav's to date have been the Fruity Pellets (single NE IPA) and Galactic Fruitier Pellets (double NE IPA). Crowlers go for around $12, and methinks this is money well spent... Dogs are not allowed inside, but there is a back deck where your pup is welcome on days it's not 150 degrees outside. All in all, great little spot with awesome beer and other bar-type destinations to venture to in the immediate vicinity if you're feeling a bit of drinking wanderlust. read more

First time checking out this (relatively) new brewery. Not to be confused with Eureka Heights Brew, this small-ish brewery is just a couple of blocks down from Petrol Station (delicious, get the Rancor burger, you're welcome). I really appreciated the laid back vibe and air-conditioned indoor space. There's also an outdoor patio with a tree for a bit of shade and appeared to be some seating in the taproom as well. There's some solid artwork and murals that add to the aesthetic. In addition there are a number of board games to enjoy while you imbibe. As far as the brews go, I tried the Wakefield IPA, the Denali IPA and the Fruity Pellets. All three were solid (albeit not exceptional) brews with the Denali being my favorite (and true to my typical preferences). Not a huge fan of the hazy, New England resurgence, but thought fruity pellets was solid. Then again, I could taste those Mosaic hops and I'm borderline obsessed with anything mosaic-related right now. ("Oh, Hi Yellow Rose, Fresh Squeezed and Community's aptly-named Mosaic"). Most of the beers will run you $5 (so a bit more expensive than the bigger breweries where $10 typically buys you three tokens) but, then, that's to be expected since they don't scale the same way. Service was solid, even as the traffic picked up. Shout out to Mike who was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient AF behind the bar. We get out (especially to breweries) less often with the young one in tow, but thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will certainly return (especially if it doesn't get *too crowded* in the future). read more

Great new addition to the Houston brewery scene... this is the brewery to go to if you are looking for a Hefeweizen that tastes like a Hefeweizen or an IPA that tastes like a classic IPA (and I mean that in a good way). While I appreciate the adventurous beers that a lot of other breweries provide, its nice to have a brewery that sticks to the classics and does them really well. The bartender was also really friendly and helpful in suggesting beers and allowing us to taste-test before making a decision on a pint. Pours are really reasonably priced and they even offer smaller tasting-sized pours if you don't want to commit to a whole pint. They do growler and growler fills, as well. Added bonus was their air-conditioned taproom which seems rare as far as breweries around here go but is definitely going to be a life-saver this summer! read more
