It has been a while since I've been here. We never have been close by and now we are even further away. Our grandson begged to come here for the generous free samples slathered with butter. Hubby and I stopped by Saturday shortly before closing time. Since they are closed Sunday and Monday, I would advise you to either get here early or have them set aside a loaf for you. Service is friendly and not rushed. Customers often have questions so if you are in a hurry, go to that lousy bakery down the street, Krogers. I bake myself and I am a breadaholic. I was very pleased with my purchase however they are on the pricier side and their website could be more user friendly. Hence the 4 stars. Great Harvest is as I remembered it. I bought a loaf of Sourdough bread on Friday, February 20th that was the worst loaf of sourdough I've ever had, ten dollars wasted. It was soggy from being put in a sealed plastic bag while still warm. Even novice bread makers know that is not to be done! It was baked unevenly, brown on one half and pale on the other. I purchased the wheat bread. I wanted a hearty, whole wheat bread to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I am looking forward to returning to try their other breads, especially the cinnamon raisin bread. I haven't tried at this location, but I used to buy the oatmeal chocolate chip and walnut cookies at another location--I highly recommend, if they still make them. The ambiance of the bakery is kind of drab, but as long as the baked goods are delicious, that is the main thing. read more

Ehhhhh. Kind of run down and unkept. We got some wheat bread (milled from a hard red wheat) and it was ok. It was a lot more dense than a freshly milled honey wheat normally is and on the smallish side. The taste was good but the consistency of the texture wasn't there. Also, i get the idea that the less perfect it looks the more home made it seems, but these were ugly on the back/bottom. Also as pictured this load has a butt crack. Last thing would be to work on a positive customer service experience. If it feels like your employees don't want to be there, the customers won't want to be there. Just a thought. First of all, I am an old guy and my wife is an old gal. We come from traditional Italian (on my side) and German (on hers) stock and we had parents who lived through the depression and grandparents who came here from the old country. We know what good food tastes like. And we certainly know what good bread tastes like. The scones we purchased were tasteless, too firm and dry. The bread, we purchased two types, was just awful. The oatmeal cookies were ok...certainly no better than an Archway cookie from Kroger's. And to give credit where credit is due, the one chocolate brownie ranked about 7 out of 10 so that was fine. 48 bucks and we tossed 35 bucks of crap in the trash can. If you want bread, get a specialty bread at Kroger's or better yet, go to the place which used to be Giant Eagle in Westerville by Maxtown...I think it is called Market Fresh. But I won't be back to this Great Harvest store. I feel bad as I know the property owner and certainly want to support his retail ownership, but pass up this 'disappointment' and buy your baked goods elsewhere...If you want something extra special go to Schneiders Bakery across the street from Graters Ice Cream in Westerville. The place has no wonderful smell, no style, no class, no nothing...Just a Blah store. Don't go there. read more

Finally had the chance to stop in. Very old fashioned and simple looking bakery. Everything is made fresh daily, wheat is even milled in the shop. There are plenty of interesting loafs of bread for sale ranging from ~$5 - $9. I ordered one of their specialty batter breads, snickerdoodle bread. It literally tastes like the cookie. Very yummy and 100% crave-able. I also got a pepperoni roll because it was on sale (normally $6.50 but only $5). Its a good pepperoni roll but I don't think I would pay that much for one there again. Staff was helpful and answered my questions, gave suggestions and over all gave me the low down on all their deals and specials. Every customer gets a free sample so make sure to check out their board and try something. Other thing to note-- they have a rewards card, I believe its buy 11 loaves or pep rolls and get the 12th free. read more

Great Harvest has lots of locations throughout the US. This was my first time going to one here in Ohio. Everything is made fresh. They specialize in breads but also have cookies and scones. They make their own granola and sometimes you can find some yummy granola bars for sale. If you purchase more than $10 you can get a loaf of white or wheat bread for $3. The prices are a bit high but quality cost money. Today I got the chocolate bread, cinnamon rolls (10 seconds in the microwave is my suggestion) and raspberry cream cheese scones. I won't be returning to Great Harvest Bread. This is the second time I've called to reserve a specific type of bread, they've taken my name, my phone number, and asked what time I'll be there; when I show up, my reserved bread isn't there. When I express my displeasure, it's "oh here's a card for a free loaf when you come back." Problem is, I reserved that specific loaf for a reason, and it's made only twice a week. I appreciate the free loaf, but I drive 70 miles round trip to get this bread. They had my phone number; if there's a problem, why not call me so I can decide whether I want to make the trip anyway? Soooooo good. I walked in at 7:25 and the cinnamon rolls were still warm and they had to wait a minute to put the icing on! And then the combo was still so warm and gooey they had to slide it in a bag and put plastic on top!! Delicious!! The pepperoni roll smells good we just have t had it yet. We also got a chocolate babka .... but we ate it. It too was fabulous! Great place to start a cold morning off with. The young lady at the front was super helpful and adorable! Great Harvest Bread Company was always one of my favorite Westerville businesses. I even remember coming here as being the highlight of my day after a long morning of kindergarten. The bread is made fresh daily, and you can tell. It's always soft and delicious, and maybe even still warm from the oven if you're lucky. From the sliced white bread, to Buckeye bread, to the pepperoni rolls, I have never come across a Great Harvest creation that I didn't love. Aside from the bread itself, one of my other favorite aspects of this business was the friendly staff. I was always greeted with a smile and immediately offered a free slice of bread. However, when the original owners left the business, the friendly staff apparently left with them. During my most recent trip to Great Harvest, I walked in the door and was not acknowledged. I had to walk to the counter, get someone's attention, and ask if they still provided free samples of bread. It was slightly awkward and not even close to the hospitable service I was used to. Although I wish that walking in the store was still the same, fun experience that it used to be, I still give Great Harvest my business because the quality of the bread did not decrease along with the quality of the staff. Oh, and also because I can't go more than a week or two without a grilled cheese made from the sliced white. Great Harvest Bread Company hands down has the best and freshest bread in Westerville. They use fresh ingredients and make their bread fresh daily. On top of tasting amazing, their bread for the most part (depending on what type of bread) is very nutritious for you. I have been going to Great Harvest since my family moved from Worthington to Westerville. I still remember the joy it brought me whenever I would go with my mom to get bread. Every time I went in I got a sample of something different. Even though I have grown up, I still go to Great Harvest. This bread is not like most bread that I have had. It is dense and can easily withstand the mammoth amount of cheese and sliced meats I put on it. Another joy for using it for sandwiches is that the pickles and condiments don't make the bread soggy and droopy. Great Harvest doesn't just make great white and wheat bread, they made specialty breads as well. Just thinking about their cinnamon roll bread or pizza roll makes my mouth water. A HUGE plus at Great Harvest like I was saying before was their free sample. Every time that you are here is a great chance to try something new. I went for lunch a couple times a week... can't beat their Louisville Chicken salad sandwiches!!! That's my reasoning behind 3 stars instead of 5; this location only offers bread, no lunch items, and from the looks of it, no specialty baked muffins, cookies, or cake. Today was much better service wise and product availability wise. However the Challah is missing something . Usually very consistent , the typical sweetness is absent. Perhaps the sugar ran out ?? I got 2 loaves so we'll see if the second is missing it's sweetness as well. read more

I don't eat a lot of bread, but I do love Great Harvest's. Their cinnamon roll bread with maple butter should be illegal, it's so addictive. Their multigrain breads are wonderfully thick but not overly heavy. If nothing else, it's a great alternative to Panera down the road, especially for "desert breads". read more

We first saw this place at the Grove City farmers market and fell in love with the cinnamon swirl bread. I remembered that I'd seen this branch and was happy that we could get it in "off season" even if the price was a little on the outrageous side. We stopped by at 8:30 this morning and she said it would be 2 hours before it would be ready but did we want to place an order. We said yes and she got our name and phone number. We asked how late they were open and she said 6:30pm and we said that would be plenty of time since we had to come back to the area this afternoon. Cue afternoon, we stop by to pick up the bread and when the hubby goes in one young girl is helping a guy, another young girl is sweeping, glances up while he's standing at the counter then continues sweeping for 2 minutes until she looks up and says "oh, do you need help?" *Hubby's inner dialogue* "No I'm only standing at the counter!" He said he was there to pick up some bread and gave our last name. She said "oh, we shelved it." He said "what does that mean?" She said "if you're not here by noon to pick it up then we sell it." He asked why no one bothered to tell him that when we ordered and she said she didn't know but that was their policy. He said again no one told him that and he said he'd be back in the afternoon and no mention of "the policy" and she stared at him like an alien. He assumed they were now out and she said yes. No "I'm sorry" or "for the incovenience, here's a 50% off coupon, please come back" nothing. When we got home, there was no phone message saying "are you still coming? It's almost high noon and we're about to sell your delicious bread out from under you!" Why did they bother asking for our number if they weren't going to use it??? So we won't be back to this branch and be aware of the policy or someone will end up enjoying YOUR bread at THEIR breakfast table. read more

AMAZING. My first time, I walked in and was greeted with exponentially awesome customer service, by the owners (Jim & Debbie) themselves and by multiple employees. I sampled two fresh, warm breads with butter - they were both outstanding. Literally. I have NEVER bought any loaf of anything from the store that could compare. All their ingredients are listed out (no preservatives or emulsifiers!!!) and they have monthly baking schedules. Wheat is milled in the shoppe. I'm thrilled. Only downside: you can't buy bread by the slice. Only loaves for 6-10 bucks. They have cookies and scones and things though - the cookie I got tasted like a grandmas cookie and not one out of a wrapper, it was fresh! Wonderful place. read more

After having been without a Great Harvest Bread Company near me (Los Angeles) for the last couple years, was a great treat coming to this store while visiting family in Columbus, OH. Nothing beats the amazing warm aroma of whole grain fresh flour baking upon entering the store--followed immediately by the friendly staffs' greetings at this location! The freshly baked Honey Wheat bread, & Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies were exactly, if not even better, than I remembered from the now closed South Pasadena, CA location. The coffee here is very good. No need to go elsewhere for that. I enjoy a nice rich black coffee, not fancy engineered coffee drinks, mind you. I have to say this place use to have the BEST bread around. We would travel up to Westerville from down around Buckeye Lake just to get some of it and when we camped in Sunbury it was a daily trip in there. Apparently, I read on here they changed owners and that would explain the experience my family has had the last two times we were in there. They never stock up on enough bread. They close at 6:30 and we went in at 3:30 and they were almost clean out of everything! Everything we wanted was gone0 You literally had a choice of 5 different breads and they were the gross breads (hence why they were still on the shelves). You use to be greeted with "Can I offer you a free sample" and you would get a HUGE chunk of bread! Now you have to basically look for the counter for the free samples and ask for it and the slices were so thin you could see through it. The prices have went up and it's not like it wasn't already expensive enough before and this bread goes dry REAL quick anymore!! First day we got the chocolate babaka and I sliced into it that night, it was dry to start with! A couple days later, it's so dry you need water to wash it down. They're bread has NEVER been like that, but the last 3x we've got them, they have been. They've cut down on their selections greatly. They use to have homemade jam that we loved, they use to have huge variety of cookies and they use to have the BEST raspberry strudel bars it was like a breakfast oatmeal square but it was big enough to split. I don't see those anywhere now on the menu. The last couple times we went in here the bread has just been awful. I wouldn't mind paying that crazy price if it was good! read more
