So, One day I decided to go get a healthy sandwich and not have all the middle fallout as I bite in to the sandwich. So, one day I ask a question about their hardiest bread, kind of rustic. Last week (12/5) we purchased their Pumpkin & Chocolate Chip loaf. We have ordered this before. This time, it was not a moist loaf, but rather dry. The amount of pumpkin flavor was VERY mild too. Overall, a disappointment especially when you consider you are paying a premium price for their products. It won't be easy to purchase this again. We also purchased a loaf of sourdough bread. The bread sourdough flavor was very mild, really the bread was no better than the two-pack of sourdough you can buy at Costco. Again, at their price point, I expected better. read more

The Chico Chicken Salad and Turkey with cranberry and cream cheese are my favorite sandwiches so far. The honey whole wheat and sourdough are excellent bread choices. Staff is friendly and helpful. It does get expensive. A sandwich alone can get close to $15 with tip and tax. So I have not been able to afford much else. The baked goods look tasty though. read more

Breads are really beginning to lack in flavor. Very doughy. Found plastic in a cinnamon knot. The knot had a flavor to the dough as if it was prepared on a surface that was not clean from a different variety of dough, flavor transfer. read more

I really like Great Harvest. Their ingredients are always fresh. Their cold sandwiches are great, their pesto turkey panini is delicious. Soups are great. They make their bread fresh every day. I love the zucchini bread and the cinammom swirl. Their scones, cinammom rolls and muffins are all very good as well. They are also super fast at lunch, which is great when I'm short on time. Great harvest has the most amazing sandwiches with a different combinations that I would have never tried on my own! I first had them a few years ago when my boss surprise me with lunch, I first tried the Chico sandwich and boy was it delicious! Since then I have tried almost every sandwich on their menu. Never would I have tried nuts or other different sauces in a sandwich! The staff are super nice and friendly and more then happy to help you with recommendations on what to try or what sauces go best with what sandwich. Great Harvest is my favorite sandwich place in Chico! The sandwiches are HUGE, I can only eat half, and they are ALWAYS delicious! I go to Great Harvest somewhat regularly and love their salads. Today I went to the store on Mangrove super hangry!! I ordered a pastrami sandwich and chicken fiesta soup. Unfortunately none of it was very good. The chicken fiesta soup was more like a nacho cheese sauce with 3 - yes 3 small chunks of chicken in it. I assumed it would be more like a tortilla soup base. Now for the sandwich.....I ordered extra mustard and pepperoncinis. After getting my order, I needed to go ask for a side of mustard and pepperoncinis because there was little mustard and they put a lot of jalapeños instead!! And the amount of pastrami was -well-very disappointing. Honestly my sandwich had maybe 2 thin slices of pastrami on it.... I could taste no pastrami whatsoever. The veggies on it were good but that is all I could taste. Normally my rating would be higher but today was super disappointing. read more

I'll keep it simple for you: Get the whole wheat cinnamon swirl. Get the garlic-cheddar bread. Get the snickerdoodles. All the grains are fresh milled daily, and everything they sell is baked fresh from scratch each day. If you're lucky and they baked it that day, get the Cinnamon Chip bread. It makes fantastic french toast! I also love the sunflower whole wheat and the pumpkin walnut. They offer samples of all the breads at the counter, along with fresh butter -- what could be better than bread fresh out of the oven? We've had many years of great times, you have never let me down- when I moved away to college you always arrived carefully wrapped in care packages, when I broke up with my first boyfriend you were there to fill the emptiness I felt. When I started my first "big kid" job you were there to fuel my long hours and stressful nights. You have been there for me through thick and thin... but because you've been there for me so much I can't see my toes anymore... so it is with great sorrow I leave you behind and start a new relationship... his name is Gym. Today I went to Great Harvest for lunch, walking in I got a hello from my buddy JR across the counter. I order the same sandwich every time, it just never gets old. A turkey & salami on Honey Whole Wheat with mayo, vinegar, salt, lettuce, red onion, tomato, and cheddar cheese. And don't forget the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie (I'm biased, but hey, i think it's their best cookie). As I wait for my food, I get into a conversation with my buddy across the counter talking about what's new and going on. As I get my sandwich and start towards the door I wave goodbye to my friends at the Harvest and head back to work where I can enjoy my delicious sandwich. The people that work here make me feel like family, even if you don't know them outside of the Bakery. They are always warm and welcome, ready to crack a few jokes. If you don't want just great food but a place that makes you feel like your part of the family, then I recommend you come here! read more

Yelped this bakery ...Walked in around 11:00 and there were two Asiago sour bread loaves left. It was excellent bread for our sandwiches. I'd go again if we lived close by. read more

My family lives in Oroville and if I ever drive up I HAVE to drive to Chico just to go here. Oooh garlic cheddar sourdough on Saturdays. When you toast it, the giant globs of cheddar in the bread melt. Family adores the Chico Crunch so I have to buy it for them. Cinnamon swirl is such a wonderful french toast bread. I've been a customer for years, and while there are a lot of things I like about them, there are also a lot of issues. The good: A lot of their "daily" breads are delicious and consistently great quality. Honey Whole Wheat never fails to be delicious, and I can say the same for the Cinnaburst, pumpkin chip and Chico Crunch. We've also generally liked their "rustic" style breads, and I would say most things are proofed correctly. Some of their salads and sandwiches have been good as well - pretty basic fare, but fresh and reasonably priced, and their oatmeal cookies are pretty excellent. The bad: a lot of consistency issues with other things. The smaller breads (like meal wheels or cinnamon rolls) and are often underdone - not raw, but pale and not especially appetizing looking. Muffins and scones are all over the place, but generally nothing to write home about. They are near my house, so I occasionally go back and get a muffin even though almost every time I say I'm not going to do it again - today it was a "peach" muffin, that literally had like 2 pea-size grains of peach. It's happened to me with all of their fruit muffins and scones - a giant, bland and lightly sweetened blob with 2 raspberries, blackberry muffins with what may be the remains of 1 blackberry muddled in the batter, blueberry muffins sans blueberries. And I never realize till I've headed to the office, so I'm stuck. It's just really meh. I used to work at a bakery, so I'm probably more picky about this than some, but the only things that are really consistent about the quality of these items are the inconsistent quality and lack of fruit in the case of supposedly fruited products. So by all means, give lunch or a loaf of bread a try - but think twice about some of the breakfast type items. read more

I've been missing my Great Harvest Bread so long now and glad to find them here in Chico! My first experience was in Evansville, IN and I went every time I could. Consistently good bread and pastries freshly baked daily not to mention their cookies and hand made sandwiches!! Organic could be used as an adjective since they grind their wheat in the store. Great Harvest is a chain of locally-based bakeries (also in Oakland and Fresno). They have seasonal breads all year round, and all the locals drool if a friend offers them a slice of anything from here. I love to try their sweeter breads (a cherry chocolate comes to mind). The best part is they give you samples to taste before you have to "commit" to a loaf. This is hands-down the best bread in town. read more

Be careful how hungry you are when you visit. This place literally does not have any bad food and it's dangerous when you have a wallet and an empty stomach. I think I left with a sandwich, some soup, like 4 different baked goods, and 2 drinks last time I went. I actually needed help to carry it all and NONE of it was bad. Obviously it's a bakery, so the baked goods are amazing, but the sandwiches are wholesome and just as good! The people are super nice every time, too! Great Harvest is by far where I go the most when grabbing lunch. They have great sandwiches with quality ingredients. Their pastries and specialty breads are also very good. One of my favorites is their cinnamon swirl bread. Also, they are consistently good and have very fast service. I have never once had to wait when I came here at lunch. Their prices are very reasonable. Usually about $10 for a drink and a sandwich. I highly recommend them. read more

Bread is a sin, in my opinion. It tastes so good, but if you don't watch out for places like Great Harvest, eating it quickly becomes a habit and like a cheating spouse, you keep coming back for more, feeling guilty all the while. It can't be helped though, with such mouthwatering temptations as the cinnamon swirl bread, honey wheat, and that amazing pumpkin chocolate chip bread. It may seem that decisions are endless there, but it always helps when the cheerful counter staff greet you with their offering of carbs. Would you like to try something from the bread board today? If your answer is yes(and it should be), be daring and try something unusual. You can't go wrong. Their prices are a little unfriendly to the budget of a college student, but it's totally worth it to go in for lunch to build your own sandwich, or even pop by in the morning for a loaf fresh out of the oven. It's $4-8 well spent and for me, there are few things as pleasing as warm bread, especially when it comes from Great Harvest, I am complete. read more
