This place lacks nothing. Absolutely nothing. The people are great. Super nice and very friendly. The menu is very easy to navigate. You can even build your own sandwich. The place is old fashion looking but not in a bad way. It reminds you of those deli's you see in the movies. They make their sandwiches packed! Packed with meat and veggies. I even added avocado to my sandwich and unlike most places they do not skimp u on that! Their prices are a flat rate and they charge no tax. 10.99 flat for a whole custom sandwich. The first challenge is finding it. It is on East just east of Cohasset. If is set way back from the street, however. It is what you expect a deli to be. I usually get the Rueben and a side of Deviled Egg Potato salad. Even if there is a line, the service is quick. I didn't feel rushed in the process. This little sandwich shop/delicatessen is tucked away in a back location and from the outside doesn't necessarily looking promising but is a delightful hidden gem. certain places for certain things... at Spiteri's Deli? everything they make is outstanding -- but what MUST you order? on Wednesday's only, the "New York" Pastrami. again, it must be Wednesday, and you must say "New York Pastrami" -- the difference between their regular daily pastrami and the special is like the difference between Walmart and Nordstrom's. okay, maybe not quite that drastic, BUT! my pro tip: get the full sized sandwich on a French roll, everything on it but hold the onions, ask for Swiss cheese. I asked for au jus because I always like eating any pastrami sandwich "beef dip style" and dunking every bite -- Spiteri's only has au jus on Thursdays and Fridays, however, I'm very happy to say that the NY Style Pastrami did not need it, it was perfect as it is, savory and juicy... what I may do next time? add some Thousand Island (or Russian) dressing, not sure which one they offer. Really wanted to like this spot. Very friendly local deli. I got the ham and smoked cheddar on an onion roll. The ingredients were good but the bread. I didn't get the Dutch crunch bc of the reviews it's dry. Well-the onion roll was dry, maybe stale? I most likely won't be back. My work decided to get lunch here. They had a hard time taking all the orders, and adding a drink to the bill was a huge hassle. The sandwich was not very good. I ordered a simple turkey sandwich on a sourdough roll. The bread was very dense and not very flavorful, and there was just too much bread. It literally took up two thirds of the sandwich. They really should scoop it out. The portions of meat were also skimpy. The deli at Raley's makes a better sandwich and cheaper. I think that if this deli wants to remain in business they strongly need to up their game because if your business is making sandwiches, and you aren't good at it, there's little hope. Staff were nice, but it really seemed like it didn't take much for them to get overwhelmed. Also, I think I had a bit of food poisoning or something later on. This was all I ate that day. read more

Hi, I'm back! I felt the need to update this review since my last one was over 3 years ago. Since then, I've moved out of chico, and even California and now live in NYC. (The deli capital of the USA) but still..... a sandwich from here is unmatched. It's always my first stop whenever I'm back in the area. I've been on a bit of a deli sandwich quest. My recent reviews will attest that I've not been able to find a place with both great bread and adequate filling. It's been one or the other or none. I thought a true delicatessen would fit the bill, so I checked out Spiteri's last Thursday for lunch. The line at 12:30pm is a testament to this place's popularity, and both the inside seating and huge outdoor patio were full. When we made it to the counter, we were helped by the nicest gal. I like that one person takes your order and makes your food, keeping things seamless for your entire interaction. The good?? This place loads up on the meat! It was generously portioned, and really tasty. The just ok?? The sandwich was leaking lol I'm not sure how else to describe it... and I'm not sure what the culprit was -- pepperoncini juice, mayo/mustard, pickles? Either way, it was a really messy situation... messier than any sammy in recent memory. The bad?? The bread. My sourdough roll was too tall to take a bite out of, and it was incredibly dry. I think you can even see how dry it is in the pic! Spiteri's is a beloved local institution, but I probably won't be back. My perfect deli sandwich is out there, somewhere. The place was clean, the staff was friendly, and the insides of our sandwiches were great (good meat, cheese, veggies), however the bread was terrible! I got Dutch crunch and my husband got a sourdough roll, both were either very stale, or just bad to begin with. The Dutch crunch should be called "Dutch crumble", since it was so dry and presumably stale it just crumbled apart as I tried to eat it. My husband's sourdough roll was dry and tasteless. We got our sandwiches to go, had we eaten there, I probably would've insisted they remake them with fresher bread or just give our money back. We ended up just eating the insides of the sandwiches and tossing the nasty rolls out. We don't often treat ourselves to bread, so it's very disappointing that one of the few times we tried to indulge, the bread was awful. Thankfully, like I wrote already, the insides were good. I'd be willing to try it again, but I'd definitely be addressing the freshness of the bread before I ordered. read more

Not a bad little Deli in Chico. I had their take on a French Dip. Au Jus wasn't overly salty (a plus). Roast beef was very good. The bread wasn't toasted, which to me is a must for French Dip. They can only toast one of their bread options there. IMO they were just past good, but not all the way to great. That combined with the prices would probably keep me from going back. read more

What a great classic shop! Sandwiches sounded good for lunch, and I'm so glad this is where we ended up. I had the vegetarian sandwich. It comes with avocado, banana peppers, and sprouts, which normally you'd have to pay to add on. Not all sandwich places automatically include avocado on their veggie sandwiches, so that was a huge plus for me. My husband built his own sandwich with turkey and cranberry sauce. The only thing he'd do differently next time is get the sourdough roll instead of sliced sourdough - that sucker got messy FAST! He said it was delicious, though, and they don't skimp on the cranberry sauce. We also tried the marinated mushrooms and the 4 bean salad. The bean salad was my favorite - one of the best I've had in a long time. They nailed the sweet and tangy sauce perfectly! The line was pretty long when we got there, but the staff really knows what they're doing. Orders were taken while we were still in line, so the only real wait was to pay. Everyone was friendly, and the guy who took our order was knowledgeable and patient with my questions. We took ours to-go, but the shop itself was clean with a good amount of seating. read more

One of my favorite sandwiches in Chico. Very much an old school deli with lots of sandwich options, fresh soups, and a plethora of ready to go by the lb deli items. So far, the Reuben pictured below has been my favorite sandwich. What's pictured is only a half sandwich and was like $5-6. Pastrami was very good quality and I was quite satisfied. Only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is I ordered a sandwich with Dutch Crunch as the bread and it had no crunch, was kinda soft and not fresh, and kinda just ruined the sandwich. Every other bread has been on point though, so just steer clear of that one. I'm a Dutch Crunch (Tiger Bread in The Netherlands) enthusiast though, so my standards are pretty high. Lots of great options here, quite quick, and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back. read more

The sandwiches are 5 star but I have two faults with the place. Atmosphere: 4 star. The place is tucked away behind a lot of other places. If you didn't already know where it was or actively look for it online you would not come across it. There is however, plenty of parking. The place is popular though, the line is almost out the door (like in & out hamburger). Lots of families come here. There is seating inside and out and it is clean. The 2nd frustration I have with the place is the menu is that of choosing the meat, bread and condiments (there are a lot of choices). For someone like me their menu is an overwhelming number of choices. I like having the choices as an option but what I really like is sandwiches I can choose from like an Italian or meatball sub. Quality: 5 star. Fresh ingredients and delicious taste. They serve alcohol and gourmet rootbeers. Value: 4 star. The sandwich filled me up and prices are on par with other gourmet sandwich shops. Service: 4 star. The staff was fast and polite but swamped. Overall, this is a great place when you know about the sandwich meats and such you want to explore. The sandwiches here are huge. They are packed full of all the good stuff. Breads are fresh and they have a great selection of meats, cheeses, and breads to build your masterpiece. You could easily split it with a buddy. They lost a star for the $11. We wasted on a quart of tortellini pasta salad. I took a bite and there was NO flavor. I was surprised and disappointed. There were no flavors in the pasta. I tasted no garlic, tangy sun-dried tomatoes, feta, olives...any of the things that could have saved this pasta. Everyone said the same thing, bland and not worth the calories. A fantastic deli also has to have sides as good as their sammies. Spiteri's needs to work on this and then it will be a 5 star joint. Sandwiches are always lovely but heres my issue. I used to be obsessed with the red potato salad. The past few times I have gotten it, it has had an off putting smell as soon as you take the lid off. I took one bite today and I will be throwing the rest out. Not sure if its a recipe change, an old batch, or worst, they are not cleaning the containers/ display case frequently enough to keep things from going bad. All that being said, the workers are great. The lady that usually works the register, probably manager or owner, needs to stop with the attitude, especially towards her employees who are only doing their best. read more
