Chicken Salad on Dakota
Wendi K.

I absolutely adore everything from Great Harvest Bread Co. and this location doesn't disappoint. Delicious, high quality, fresh, dense baked goods and bread that pack big flavor punches. Great portions too. This time we tried the breakfast roll (with ham and cheese, $5) and the Earth Scone ($3). Both incredible. The chicken salad sandwich ($7-8?) was also great. The lady helping us out was also so nice. Location in downtown Bend.

Not bad! We both had the turkey chipotle sandwhich. It was huge. The sandwhich was a little bland but it was still good.We were both surprised being a bakery and all the bread was just OK.

My wife and I parked near by with the intent of waking past this place, and we did initially... but the splendid and tempting odor of fresh baked bread emanating from the building drew us in as we were returning back to our car. As we stepped through the threshold the teasing scent we enjoyed earlier became an overwhelming aroma of freshly baked bread and all of the goodness there in. Though we had no need for any of the things they sold we were compelled to purchase by the richness in the air. After completing our transaction the smiling face behind the counter offered a heavenly slice of hot freshly baked honey wheat bread. We gleefully accepted and he dutifully carved a steaming slab of fresh goodness from the loaf and bestowed it upon us. The bread was delicious, warm, somewhat sweet and went great with the butter on the counter-top. My wife complained that the bread seemed a little "doughy" and had a bit much flour. What I think she really meant was that this bread is filling, delicious, and worthy of being enjoyed alone.

I read someone's review about how this place rivaled the pastries in France- so I had to try it…read more I've never been to France, but I haven't had better French pastries. Oh my lanta! I got the pistachio seasonal pastry, a croissant and a monkey bread. It was all good, but the monkey bread was divine. Never had a better version. I'll dream about it for sure. Bakeries were seemingly on every other block and I knew that I was going to do some serious damage to my expectations upon my return to Bend. I am happy to report that M's is my new daily destination for pastries at the Old Mill. This is a bakery that could compete with the best pattiseries and boulangeries in Paris. They offer croissants, almond croissants, chocolate croissants, seasonal chuffins, ham & cheese croissants, monkey bread, kougi amann, blueberry muffins, gluten-free cookies, and more. I always leave with one or two boxes full of treats. I've tried their olive sourdough, which I found to be excellent, if albeit pricey-enough to make it a rarer purchase for me. They have an excellent selection of coffees, as you'd expect. But the thing I must emphasize is that we have a bakery *right here* in Bend that could hold its own against the best in France! Highly recommended!

The chef and owner Kamal came by our table to thank us for coming in and tell us about a jazz club called Cellar 65 they have downstairs where they offer different cuisine experiences throughout the year. While we waited we had to try the flourless chocolate cake and Apple Cinnamon Cake, warmed up along side our cup of Joe. Ok so brace yourselves for this...the starter came out and was served to us by Chef Kamal and wasn't a disappointment on the eyes, crafted so delicately on the plate. The flaky filo was a golden hue and held a beautiful song inside of the most perfectly mix savory and sweet flavor, the duck was soft and tender, leaving you just wanted MORE!! Having read the reviews I was prepared to order the stuffed croissant French toast. Last minute change of heart- I ordered the Gobbler, a roast turkey sandwich on a croissant with a flavor profile reminiscent of Thanksgiving. The sweetness of the fig jam played well with the poached pear, savory turkey and peppery arugula. Dessert will have to wait until our next visit. The pastry counter at the front of the restaurant displays cinnamon roles, scones, muffins and impressive cakes. There's even a marionberry and white chocolate bread pudding that would make a wonderful brunch choice.
