The experience i had was almost criminal. In order to complete your order for pickup online, it demands you enter a tip. It will not allow you to proceed without doing so. If a tip is demand at point of sale, it is not a tip. It is extortion! Then, if you happen to add a tip , your receipt does not reflect this and asks for another tip. Finally, the order is made was 34.11 , I was charged 35.12. The online fee was reflected in the original price. This is plain theft. I haven't even had the food yet and I know I will never go back. If I could give a negative 5 stars I would. I now know why I was the only person picking up food. They need to shut the doors and spend some time learning how to cook. Boneless ribs were pieces of pork shoulder, dyed red and steamed with absolutely no flavor. The lo mein was noodles with soy sauce and did not remotely taste like they were stir fried. Lo mein had absolutely no vegetables, not even an onion. Sweet and sour chicken were sponges of overly thick batter completely dripping with oil and the sauce was most likely Hawaiian punch thickened with cornstarch, again no flavor!! The egg foo young was soggy lumps of flavorless egg filled with water and grease. Again no flavor, vegetables or scallions. The sauce for the egg foo young was a lumpy brown mess of flavorless goop. Fried rice was soggy and tastes only of soy sauce. Get it together or close the doors and go away. First and last order from this place. I never expect much ordering from any of the half as* roach shops in the area, but this place takes the prize when it comes to half as*!!!! I got a special combination(Beef Teriyaki, Boneless Spare Ribs, Golden Fingers, Pork Fried Rice) and a side of Chicken Teriyaki. Not great food, maybe some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. No flavor, mushy, and the chicken teriyaki was dry. Yet it was somehow so wet that the bag gave out and most of them fell out. The Beef Teriyaki was the only decent thing about my meal. The Boneless Spare Ribs were okay, but it's hard to mess those up. The rice was chock full of onions and didn't have any flavoring to it. And the Golden Fingers were smushed into the container and were more breading than chicken, and mushy and soggy, not crunchy like you'd expect. I wouldn't recommend eating here, there is much better Chinese food in the area. I wish I'd have read the reviews before buying. read more

Today was the second day trying this place since moving to the area almost two years ago. My go-to Asian places have been Ichiban (s. Hadley), Sumo (Holyoke mall) and HuKeLau (before they closed last spring). I was exploring yelp and decided to try Great China for today's lunch. Overall experience wasn't bad. I have no memorable events from the first time we ordered from here a while ago. I recall it being late at night and close to our house being the reasons for us choosing this spot. Today I ordered Pu Pu platter for 2 and a large vegetable lo main. I did not have a menu for this restaurant so I went by the price online. (Price for pu Pu for 2 seen listed for $13.95 and also for $14.95. Vegetable lo mein listed for $7.95 in the yelp menu) Most places charge for delivery so I expected a $1-3 charge for that. I called a little after 12 on a Sunday afternoon. Man on the phone taking my order was friendly. However I realized after I hung up that I was not given a total. Oh well. I was expecting it to come to $25-26. I was given a 30-40 min wait time which I found reasonable (even though it's extremely close to my house) the delivery driver arrived about 35 minutes after I placed my order. I asked him what the cost was... $28.40 (something) I don't exactly recall because when I handed him money and went to take the receipt the young man pulled it back out of my hand and just handed me the bag (nearly dropping the $20 bill in top of the pile I handed him into the wind) he was not the most friendly or personable person in the world. Even after I handed him $34 and said keep the change. I wish I was given the receipt so I could see where the charges came from but perhaps that is their system, to return with the receipts? And not have an extra one for the people paying cash? I'm unsure. I was a little disappointed to find there was no menu stapled to the bag for reference either. For the money, it for certain was a generous amount of stuff. More than I expected really. I will rate the items I ordered all individually from the PuPu platter for 2 on a scale of 1-5 stars, 3 being the average-not bad but not special, rating scale. Fried shrimp -(2) 5/5 these were very good. Some of the best I've had. Large, tasty breading great flavor. Recommended. Golden Fingers (7) 4/5 I actually received a lot more of these in my order than I expected! They were a little on the small side but that's okay. The chicken-breading ratio was good. A little too sweet tasting for my preference but not bad. I believe many would enjoy these. Good flavor overall. Beef teriyaki- (2) 3/5 these were good. Tender. Not my favorite sauce on them, I tend to go for a less sweet more ginger-y flavor. Meat was tender and juicy. Size and thickness was pretty average. Crab Rangoon (2) 3/5 not bad. They were folded into a unique little envelope shape. The filling was pretty good. Nothing over or under whelming about them however. Egg Roll (2) 3/5 not bad. Good size but nothing more than cabbage for filling (sometimes there are bean sprouts or shreds of other cabbage and carrots inside). Average. BBQ Spare Ribs (2) 1/5 underwhelming. I'm not a fan of these usually anyway. I did take a bite and was turned off by it immediately. Not a very good flavor. In my opinion. They were decently meaty from what I could tell so if you are normally a fan of gnawing on these things you may be happy with them. Chicken wings (2) 4/5 good wings! Average size, good crispy flavorful coating on them. Recommended. Vegetable Lo mein 4/5 pretty tasty stuff. Noticed a nice ginger flavor. veggies identified were broccoli, bean sprouts, Napa cabbage, and mushrooms. If it had more stuff ie. Baby corn, water chestnuts, snow/snap peas, carrot slices etc, I would have rated this a 5/5. ~Other mentionable details about my order~ Crispy noodles (one small bag), fortune cookies (3) and plenty of duck and soy sauce packets in the bag. I could easily get three filling meals out of this one order of food. Probably perfect for 2-3 people. read more

It's hard to rate this place.. I was ordering from here regularly. The driver is super nice but it really is a hit or miss whether the food would be decent or not. Chicken wings wouldn't be fully cooked.. at times the egg drop soup was bland/flavorless. There was one time I ordered their pan fried dumplings and they were so rubbery and tasteless after the first bite I ended up throwing the whole container away. When I called and asked why they were so bad I was told they ran out so they had to buy some frozen dumplings from the store. Safe to say I do not order from here anymore. read more

I'm biased. This has been my go-to chinese restaurant in the entire area code for the past ~18 years. Whenever I'm back in the area, I make it a point to stop by and order a meal. Of course, there's only one reason I'd be so biased: the food is delicious. Their pork fried rice is amazing, their rolls are amazing, their lo mein is amazing, their ribs (I prefer the boneless ones) are amazing. Speaking of the ribs, I love Great China's so much that I can barely bring myself to eat ribs from other restaurants (last time I did, it didn't sit well; I'm that addicted to Great China's). Their prices are incredibly reasonable, you can get a large meal for one person for a very reasonable price; I went there recently in a group of 4 and the platter we got for ~$20 had plenty of left overs for us to take home. When I was young, I'd eat there regularly, and the owner always took the time to chat with me. I don't think anyone working remembers me specifically, but I do know that they remember my family members that still order regularly, and always make sure to treat them well. Its also worth noting that, since the small two shop building that the restaurant is in was built, there have been probably a dozen different businesses next to it, from a Subway to a pawn shop to a psychic to (presently) a church, of all things. Great China's outlasted them all, and most of the businesses in the area, and for good reason. If I were to try to come up with anything remotely critical, its that the restaurant is small and looks dated; but it always kinda has. Faded posters and menues line the wall and I'd understand if that put off a new customer. But don't let it, the food more than makes up for that. read more

Food was fair, not a dine in place as they have folding chairs and tables to eat at and no heat. Worst of all was the attitude. I always say please,thank you etc...to restaurant personnel. If I could give less than a star, I would. This place is awful. I ordered through their online ordering service where it said my order should arrive within an hour. After an hour went by and we still hadn't heard anything, I decided to call the restaurant to see if our food was on its way. The woman on the phone said it was still going to be another half an hour due to the bad weather. Okay, understandable. Another 45 minutes later, still no food. I call back again; no answer. Wait a few minutes, call back again: "yeah, [my address] your food is on its way" and she hangs up. Awesome. Another 10 minutes later, our food finally arrives TWO HOURS AFTER WE ORDERED IT. Not only was the service horribly rude, but our food was cold and disgusting when it arrived. I will never order from this place again and I advise others to save their money and spend it elsewhere.
