I was in the mood for hot egg drop soup on this rainy day. Chinese restaurants in the area aren't open on Mondays so this was the only option. Ordered the soup, with fried rice, bbq ribs, chicken fingers. Soup was lukewarm had to reheat it. I'm I've 5 mins away so it is not like I had to travel. The soup had an odd aftertaste. Corn starch maybe not sure. Chicken fingers were soggy, no crunch at all 'ribs' a term I use loosely were dried out bits an pieces. No stickiness, or flavor to them. I am not a picky eater and I rarely complain. Do better! With rising prices, added convenience fees, people like me who do an occasional 'treat myself day' will be a lot more picky where we spend our money. Sorry But this is not worth the money. read more

They didn't have any of our usual menu, sweet & sour chick without the sweet & sour sauce. Chicken & cashews had a couple of cashews & peanuts added. the food was stone cold. This was our favorite restaurant for Chinese food. One of just two in the area that has shrimp toast. Apparently, it is under new ownership. The new owners have a lot to learn! The egg drop soup had no flavor, my husband's dinner came out lukewarm, greasy and with practically no flavor. The shrimp toast was the worst! Burnt on the outside, grease soaked and, raw in the middle! It tells me that their oil is dirty, they're dropping the temperature to reduce the smoke from the dirty oil causing greasy, undercooked shrimp & egg in the middle and the dark, burnt outside. Clean your fryer and change the oil! Regularly. Not sure if we'll give them a second chance. read more

Always good food. I see mentions of delivery here, but in all the years I've been coming here, they've never had delivery?? Only dine in and carryout. Anyway, the beef and broccoli is always great. I wish there was a bit less stem on the broccoli but that's just my preference. The chicken fingers are always perfectly crisp, the boneless spare ribs are moist and never overcooked, and the pork fried rice is great no matter how you eat it. The crab rangoons taste soooo good, I just wish there was a little more filling. But that's nothing major. I've been to many chinese food places, spanning from Hampton beach to Princeton NJ, and none of them come close to being as good as North China. Let me start by saying this place does not deserve the poor ratings. It isn't that they do not have customer service skills, it is a cultural difference really. We have eaten here twice in the past two weeks and our service has been excellent. We were promptly seated on both occasions and were taken to a table with crispy fried won tons and sweet and sour sauce to munch on while looking at the menu. Tea and water was brought to us without even asking and they refilled the water constantly. The food is quite inexpensive and very very good. Soup was included with our meals, which was a very nice surprise. Very good soup. I rarely touch the broth in my won ton soup but here I drink it up. Yummy! The food is enough for two meals and was very tasty. I had the sesame chicken both times! My husband had the kung pou chicken this last time. Our meals came with fried rice, chicken fingers, and terriyaki steak. I have never had terriyaki quite like it. We found the service awesome, the food was delicious and we took home leftovers! We ordered delivery tonight - pork fried rice, moo goo gai pan, steamed dumplings and pork lo mein. Delivery was great and on-time. The pork-fried rice was tasty, but the rice was underdone - had a little crunch to it. The steamed dumplings had a thick, dry pasty dough wrapper, I would have expected something thiner and tender. Okay so you understand this review and the motivation. I have been searching for an old style NY Chinese restaurant for years. I walked in and the NOSTALGIA just came pouring into my soul. The booths are sturdy and amazing as if the place is frozen in time. I find the food amazing as well. I ordered the beef with broccoli and was blown away. The wonton soup filled my heart and warmed it up. By the way Shrimp Toast I could not believe I finally found a place that did it. Now I must admit the color and ingredients for the fried rice were all there but it was no where near the highlight of the dinner. My date ordered the scallops and the waiter didn't even hesitate to make sure they understood that the scallops were fake. We were both impressed to the honesty and we still ordered. My date loved them and loves the sea flavor regardless of knowing they were fake. I noticed another couple order there food and instead of fried rice asked for it to be replaced with roast pork low mein. That's how we are going to order next time. I will update when we go again. Limited selection in their combo meals- none of the dinner meals have lo mein as their "main side" or even as a substitute option (which don't exist). I ordered the meal #9 which is (4) goldfingers, boneless ribs, (2) beef teriyaki, and pork fried rice. The goldfingers weren't too bad. The boneless ribs were fatty, dry, and cooked in a heavy peanut oil giving them a flavor that was off. The beef teriyaki were smaller than most places, but had a decent teriyaki flavor to them. The fried rice was slightly bland. I also ordered a quart of chicken lo mein which had more of a buttered noodle flavor than a lo mein flavor. Definitely not the best I've ever had or even worth it locally as there are better places around, but I figured I'd give them a try as I have not eaten there yet. The prices were high considering I paid over $30 for this meal & quart of lo mein. read more

Party of 3 on a Monday. The food was truly terrible. Old fryolator grease is used and so everything is coated in a brown oily coat and nothing a golden brown. The fried rice is soaked in greasy oil. The chicken fried rice had shredded chicken on top, and not at all mixed in, and was dry, tasting old. The fried foods we ordered were truly disgusting. We will never, ever, go back. We have been going to North China for nearly 30 years and in all these years it is still our favorite Chinese food in the area. The ingredients are always fresh and the portions are great. Because they are good and reasonable priced it is a very, very busy place. Sometimes the wait can be long but everyone there works non stop to make sure their customers are happy. Again, when they are busy you will have to wait but the food is worth it. Wow I heard great things but wasn't expecting much as I feel Chinese food is subjective. Well we ordered for 5 people and the bills was much lower than other places. I am a pupu platter lover so crispy chicken is my favorite and their chicken fingers did not disappoint. Their rice was moist and delicious. Stopped by for a quick in and out lunch and was quite surprised at just how quick and good the Kung Pao Chicken with fried rice was that I ordered. Service was fast and efficient, I was in and out in under 30 mins., not bad for dining in during the the noon lunch rush. The luncheon entree portion size was larger than expected and there was more than enough fried rice served in a small wonton soup bowl. $5.50 was the big surprise, price to value/quality ratio was dead center bulls eye. The restaurant has many Szechuan dishes on the menu, however; the cooks are all from Fujian, so looking for Northern Chengdu authenticity won't be found there but who cares at that price and quality level. read more

Sadly ... very sadly I have to give this place 1 star ... it doesn't even deserve that. After placing my order with a woman who seemed rather bothered to be on the phone to begin with who said that its busy and delivery will be at the least an hour and a half I was actually happy about that because it would be perfect timing for me that evening. I placed my order of Kung pao chicken, beef lo mein, and an egg roll. It came out to be around 15 dollars and was happy with that. When the delivery man came he of course couldn't make change because he only had 10 dollars to make change. All I needed was 30 back... anywho after 10 mins or so of him trying to find enough change he said all I can do is 27... okay... fine at this point ... he was pleasant so what ever right?.. I'll let it go.. when I get my food and get everyone served I opened mine it was general tso chicken... which I hate more than anything... but what ever right?? So I call and let them know the mix up and was told sorry it's what you ordered because it's what was written down and it's not busy and I didnt make that mistake so sorry we wont fix the issue and order correctly next time. She out right refused even though that I spend about 85.00- 150.00 a week through work as we all order together.... so rather than accept that there was a mix up and fix the issue and keep me and future business she said she would rather loose business from me than to fix the issue because she is not wrong. Really. For real? Okay that makes no sense because it's a 5 dollar meal. I will not come back Because this is bad business I was never rude dispite all this just very surprised how you run this place. After asking for a table instead of multiple booths we were told no that the 2 tables that were available were not to be used. The waiter was very rude and not happy to deal with so many people. Take out Slow - takes longer than promised ( when the cashier says 'thanks for waiting' to everyone - its a sign of a problem). This place is never really busy but they act like they are. Sometimes spot on taste wise and sometimes bland As a challenge - try totaling the cost of any order over 20 dollars and you will find that the math of the cashier is less than accurate.
