Fried Pimento Cheeseballs
Cody D.

Came here for lunch with some friends after doing some shopping and walking around Franklin. First thing I noticed was the fried pimento cheeseballs. They are absolutely amazing. They sit on a spread of pepper jelly that adds just the right amount of sweetness and a bit of spice to the richness of the pimento cheese. We saw probably a dozen or more orders going to tables while we sat there and ate. They had live music and the place is just a cool venue for a restaurant. We highly recommend this place.

Very cool spot with lots of history. The food service missed a little but the staff acknowledged it and made it right. They seemed to be working out the kinks of new system or staffing but were super cool about it. A+ The food was good but the drinks were amazing. I ordered their Gray's Famous Anthym Spirit and I highly recommend.

I was visiting from out of town with some work colleagues. We got the dates wrapped in bacon and pimento cheese balls as starters. They were both delicious. I got the fried chicken meal. It was the best fried chicken meal I've ever had. Lighting is very dim, which seemed to be the norm for this area of Tennessee. Seemed like every restaurant I went to it was dark. Not a fan of that. But that didn't sway my review. The only thing that is keeping this review from 5 stars is our service. To me it was disappointing. We had 7 people in our group. Most of us got water, while a few others chose alcohol. Our server couldn't even keep our water cups 1/4 of the way filled. We sat empty for a while and we never seen our waiter. We were there for about 2.5 hours and my glass was filled twice. I would much rather preferred him leave a pitcher for us than to not check and see if we wanted more.

Amazing fries, hilarious staff and amazing food. Just go. Favorite fries in Franklin. Awesome dive bar vibe with elevated food on the menu. Great for guys to sit at while others are shopping Ask for the peanut tequila shot... lol Did I say I liked the fries? Like curly fries but not curly.

A+ for the classic old school decor and old time feel. Drove down to Franklin to get away from Broadway for a night and check out the old school charm and vibe. Think old architecture classic buildings. We popped into Grays for a drink and immediately fell in love with the decor and old school vibe. The bartender was a true mixologist. Both cocktails we tried, the Grays and the Giant Peach and also the Anthym Spirit were delicious. The bartender was friendly and informative on the area and also the bar itself. He knew his craft for certain. We don't go upstairs for the live music as we were heading somewhere else after this stop, but this is a must stop if you're in the area. Cool old town feel on the main drag through town and a lot of rich history in this place. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Gray's is regarded as a Franklin date-night staple and after our Friday evening of eats & drinks, I am glad to say its reputation holds up. Seated by the window at table for two, we watched Main Street buzz while we chased our own, me with the "Main Street Squeeze" (tasted like a liquid creamsicle) and he with Some Sorta Bourbon Pour (the particulars of which are unbeknownst to me). As a starter, we chose the bacon wrapped figs and agreed we could've eaten about an entire popcorn bucket full of them... They hit all the right sweet / salty / smokey notes that keep a person wanting juuuust oooone more. My red blooded American date went with the New York Strip for his entree, while I opted for the Heritage Fried Chicken per our server's ringing endorsement. We had not a single complaint as we smiled and ate and stole bites off each other's plates. I can't think of a single way that our Gray's outing could have been improved and I will look back on the whole experience fondly.

Really tasty food. Definitely recommend to start with the Bacon Wrapped Figs and Crispy Smashed Potatoes...super yummy. The Rose Cocktail is delicious and quite beautiful and is similar to a Cosmo. The Looking Glass is a strong gin drink that mimics an Old Fashioned with the block ice but nice if you love gin. For dinner I would absolutely recommend the Fried Chicken...SO good. The Shrimp and Grits were yummy but you have to understand they are not your typical grits. Uniquely enough, they add popcorn to the grits as they are made to create a thicker consistency. Personally, I would stick with the beautiful recipe of the shrimp with okra and sausage but keep a more traditional grits recipe. We tried to order coffee and dessert but oddly they were "Out of coffee." Great service with ample parking as it is downtown Franklin. A definite must for a casual evening out. @YelpNashville

yes yes yes we loved our time here! definitely make a reservation on bust weekend nights! it's super easy through the website, but they will charge you $25 per person if you cancel your reservation last minute on them (which is fair they're a busy restaurant!!) please note: they do change their menu so if you like something now it might not be around next time you go back! we loved our food! we had the shrimp and grits, fried chicken, and seafood alfredo. Everything was wonderfully seasoned and was full of flavor. everyone loved their meals and we can't wait to go back and try more things from there! definitely recommend coming here! it's a super cute restaurant with friendly staff! it's perfect for a date night, or a family dinner!

Ask the Community - GRAY'S On Main

How are Covid precautions here?

The owner posted and endorsed an anti-mask rally in defiance of the mayor's mask mandate. That should tell you all you need to know.

Any gluten free options?

Yes....there are, but I don't recall the specific menu items. ?

# -- True Hospitality Reveals Itself When Things Go Wrong…read more **Culinary Dropout** 4020 Aspen Grove Drive Franklin, TN 37067 A flawless dining experience is always a pleasure. But I have long believed that the true measure of a restaurant isn't how it performs when everything goes according to plan. It's how it responds when something doesn't. After a full day of traveling, our party of four arrived at Culinary Dropout, looking forward to our first proper meal of the day and an opportunity to relax and enjoy each other's company. It was my first visit, and I was immediately impressed by the restaurant's size, lively atmosphere, and inviting ambiance. We arrived just as the live music was coming to an end. Our evening began with a few minor hiccups. Our initial server, who candidly mentioned that it was her first day, managed to get virtually every drink order wrong. Shortly afterward, another server, Jayden, introduced herself and took over our table. And this is where the experience became particularly noteworthy. Rather than making excuses or minimizing the situation, the staff and management took ownership of the mistakes. There were sincere apologies, attentive service, and a remarkably generous gesture of goodwill. What could easily have become an irritating start to the evening instead turned into a memorable introduction to genuine Southern hospitality. As for the food, we ordered fish and chips, turkey pastrami sandwiches, and a burger. Everything arrived fresh, well-prepared, and flavorful. The kitchen delivered exactly what one hopes for from this style of casual American dining: satisfying, well-executed food without unnecessary pretension. All four of us have worked in the hospitality industry at one point or another, so we understand that mistakes are inevitable, particularly when new employees are finding their footing. **Our five-star rating is entirely intentional.** Not because the evening was flawless, but because Culinary Dropout demonstrated something arguably more valuable than perfection: accountability, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to hospitality. The food was certainly good, but it was the people who left the strongest impression. **A restaurant's character is rarely revealed when everything goes right. On this occasion, Culinary Dropout showed us its character when something went wrong.** And we liked what we saw.

A friend asked me to join her at Cullinary Dropout. From my experience, it is pretty clear to see…read morethe dropout part, as this is pretty run of the mill food. I think it likely gets "new kid on the block" bumps on ratings, as it should not have this high of ratings. Or did I just have a bad night to come there? First, this is a chain restaurant. I don't hold that against it, but I find chains tend to lack the attention a local restaurant, where the owners are in the place, tend to be better overall in quality, service, etc. Second, this place is WAY overhyped. The concept is very neat, so give kudos, but, in the end, it comes off like most chain restaurants and lacks the soul to make this a great experience. The atmosphere is cool. It is very open, so a bit noisy, but that is usual for restaurants these days. Arrived early, so got a seat at the large bar. Tried to convince her to just sit down and enjoy the bar, but she wanted a table. Service was average. Nothing to complain about, nothing to rave about. Kept on top of things, so can't complain. The ribs are fine, but way oversold. Fall off the bone, so not my favorite, as I like a little pull. I won't fault them for that, as some people like the meat uber soft. Not really fond of the sauce on it. Again, that is a preference thing. The menu makes them far more appealing sounding. THe star on the plate was the slaw. I am so-so on slaw, but this was my favorite part of the meal. The fist & chips were overbreaded. Fries were limp. Her fish & chips was definitely the low point. High point was on the Mississippi mud pie, which was a highlight. Not enough to kick it up a star, but definitely enough to keep it above dropping to a 2. I did like the drinks, so if she ever wants to venture for cocktails and appetizers, I will certainly give it some thought. OUtside of that, I would rather hit Drake's (another chain).

The restaurant was already half full, creating an energetic buzz throughout the room. What struck me was how lively the atmosphere felt without being overly loud. While other restaurants might have felt noisy with that many diners, this one simply felt alive. They've clearly figured out how to create a vibrant atmosphere while keeping the noise level comfortable enough for conversation. Our server, Reagan, was friendly, courteous, and attentive. She took our drink order and promptly returned with two waters and two mimosas, made with freshly squeezed orange juice. What a delightful way to begin brunch! Mom ordered the steak and lobster Benedict and loved every bite. I opted for the classic eggs Benedict, and both dishes were served with roasted potatoes. Afterward, we treated ourselves to the donut rings, accompanied by three delicious dipping sauces: chocolate, raspberry, and vanilla. Yum! I'm a frequent diner here, and this restaurant never disappoints. The food and service are consistently top-notch, and that's something I truly appreciate. There's a certain comfort in knowing that every visit will be just as good as, if not better than, the last. Whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth, this is a restaurant you can count on for a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend!

Comes with jalapeno hot sauce - don't be shy, it's more slightly tangy than spicy and it perfects the delicious deviled eggs. Appreciate that they're generous with the glazed bacon. Wife loves the little gem salad. It's a bit light for dinner; she cleans her plate. Special of fish and chips - sounded wonderful, but they were out of the fish shortly after 5:30pm - what? It must have been a carry over from the previous evening is all I can imagine. Anyway, if it's on the daily specials, order as soon as you see it! Loud, bustling, it's a popular place, be sure to reserve ahead (of sit at the beautiful bar, that works for a lot of folks as well).

They take the leftover steaks from the weekend, grind them fresh into an incredible burger patty, and top it with a house-made sauce that has just a hint of truffle. Before the burger arrived, I started with an Old Fashioned, and it was fantastic. I got so excited about that burger I almost forgot to mention it! It was well-balanced, perfectly made, and a great way to kick off the evening. We sat downstairs at the bar, and our bartender was outstanding.
