We held our rehearsal dinner here on 10/25/19 and it was sooo fun and easy-going. We rented out the upper floor which was spacious for our 30 guests. We were able to do a customized small menu and drink menu, and provide drink tickets for the guests attending. The vibe was very fun and casual which allowed us to get fairly loud without feeling like we were bothering others. The food came out very timely, service was great, and the food was SO DELICIOUS. Could not be happier with the experience at Graydon's Crossing. We were greeted warmly at the door and they quickly identified that it was our first time at this cozy, old pub style restaurant. We were seated upstairs where it was nice and quiet. We were attended to right away and given the rundown of the rotating monthly specials. The beer list is quite nice (if you've been to Logan's Alley, you'll recognize "the book"). Shortly after ordering appetizers, we were greeted with two more samplers, compliments of the Chef! Appetizers came and they were delicious. Had the Hearts of Palm Dip (think Spinach and Artichoke) and Venison Chili. On to the main course. Becky had the Carriage House Beef and I must say, I was a bit jealous. It's your momma's Pot Roast on steroids. SO good. I had the Coffee Braised Pork Loin, also excellent. To wrap up the meal, we sat out on the Beer Garden deck, enjoyed the breeze and finished up with some nice coffee based cocktails. Very nice time here, will definitely be back! read more

I have visited GC several times over past many years and have never been impressed. The only reasons I have dined there is upon the request of my husband or to meet others for a drink. It's a good location for that purpose. I visited GC again last night on my husband's request and felt it was high time I wrote this review. We split the Jalapeño Poppers and Fish Tacos. Both were weak. The poppers were not warm enough, as in cooked temperate, and the bacon was too soggy. The fish tacos were edible, but not tasty and, again, not warm enough (the tortilla shells were refrigerator cold). There tap list is good, but am really reviewing the food, which in my opinion, has never been good. My husband finally agrees with me and we won't go back to eat, just drink. The fish and chips were recommended by our waitress. They were some of the best I've ever had: lightly battered and crisp with flaky cod. The Railway Lamb Curry was also fantastic. Where they lost the 5th star was on the Burrito (waaaaay too much curry and seasoning) and the recommended Danburry (no seasoning or distinct flavor). I'll start by saying that I like this place. I used to go weekly about a decade ago. I have since moved away, but went back last weekend while visiting GR. Things have changed, but I believe for the better. Being a vegetarian, I appreciate the numerous offerings. However, I have to say please take the jack fruit off the menu until a better recipe is found. I cook jackfruit and it turns out flavorful and chewy like meat. Their jackfruit tasted like it was hardly cooked and fresh out of the can. Maybe lightly pickled? Either way, it was really horrible. Even my vegetarian "I'll eat anything that is vegetarian" husband said is was gross. Please take it off the menu and revamp the recipe. My wife & I celebrated our anniversary there outside on the beer garden patio. it was a very pleasant experience. I had the Carriage House Beef & it was fantastic. The meat was very tender & tasty. My wife had vegetarian meatballs that also were very good. The service was great & our waitress was quick to refill our drinks. I thought I was done with this establishment after my third attempt, but I was wrong. A dear friend made reservations for a large group of us on NYE, because it was the only place in town that had the accommodations we needed. My husband and I gave each other that look ("It's going to be OK, we can find something to eat"). I could quite honestly write a novel on the issues that I have with Graydon's, but instead, I'll list them. Disclaimer, I've worked in the craft beer and food scene for years and consider myself quite lucky to be able to eat/drink anything without looking at cost. 1. Service: The turnover rate for management and servers is the worst in the city. Not only that, the people who rotate in and out are completely ignorant of anything being sold in the restaurant. If you consider yourself a beer bar, and your servers describe the beers as "dark" or "We have wheats, ales, lagers, darks, stouts, everything..." you are in trouble. My husband ordered the Prix Fixe dinner on NYE. Every course (even the dessert) came out at once. This is after our two appetizers, and for some reason my entree, came out 45 minutes after we ordered them. 2. Food: Ugly. Bland. Oily. A menu of misnomers. I know what gnocchi looks like, and what they were serving was not gnocchi. The curried ketchup with our kettle chips was BBQ sauce out of a jar....seriously. Graydon's serves the ugliest, laziest food I have seen in a restaurant. One of my friends was a cook there for a period of time last year, and he said that there is no one who checks on quality and consistency....the managers don't work their long enough to care. Sorry if I sound like a bitch, but seriously, I feel really sorry for people who think that Graydon's is one of the best restaurants in GR. My money will continue to be spent at Greenwell, Terra, 616, Maru, Jonny B'z, Rockwells, Stella's, and other great places. read more

Poor Service, Poor Food, Poor Policy, Rude Manager Went in looking for lunch today. Ordered the indian nachos and about two minutes later they bring it to us, semi cold, looking like crap. I had seen that same plate go past us before we ordered. The served us someones mistake!!! Unbelievable! But, okay, whatever, we let it slide. For lunch we asked waitress about the shepherds pie and was informed it was very good, lamb, peas, mashed potatos, baked and browned on top. Sounds good right? Uh, no... It was so BLAND and GREASY there was no way either of us wanted to eat it. I loaded mine with salt and pepper and it was still awful. Both dishes literally had a pool of grease in it. I like a little greasy burger or some flavor but this was pooled grease, it was gross. So we ask the waitress, she looks at it and says "no problem", "sorry, it's not usually like that, can I bring you something else?". So we then order a sandwich to share. When the waitress brings the sandwich she says, "By the way, I can't take those dinners off your bill, but I can give you a gift certificate for next time because we didn't make a mistake, that's how the dish is supposed to be served". I reminded her that she said it was not usually that greasy and she replied "well I only had it once and I was sick and maybe that was what I needed" What the...??? So I tell her that I am not comfortable paying for two dinners we did not eat and that she did not tell us we would be paying for them when she asked if we wanted something else. Waitress says there is nothing she can do about it. Next the manager comes out and explains to me that this is the "owners policy", that they never give refunds, and she cannot change the policy. I tell the manager it would be acceptable if I could use the gift certificate to pay for the meals we did not eat but otherwise I did not want to pay. She begins to argue with me and tell me it is the "owners policy" and there is nothing she can do, and that this is not a corporation and that the dish was fine. After a bit of an argument she says she will go call the owners and see what they want to do. (Seriously???). 10 minutes goes by and she walks up, grabs the gift certificate and just says "you are all set" and walks away. Obviouosly unhappy. A few minutes later the waitress brings our bill minue the two dinners. The sandwich was great. Too bad the manager botched this so badly. Since when do you take back a meal, offer a replacement then charge you for both, argue with the customer then offer a gift certificate? This will cost them a lot more than $22 in the long run. Won't be back, Will call the "owners" to complain about rude manager" Will spread the word that the food and service was terrible. read more

I am no Chef Ramsey, but I think this place could use his help! The appetizers and beer were good, but the main courses need CPR. The Shepherd's Pie had absolutely no flavor. Tried salt & pepper but it did nothing for the blandness. Even considered ketchup (on lamb???), but couldn't bring myself to do it, so I sent it back and got the fish & chips instead. Sadly, this dish was not much better. The chips were good but the breeding on the fish was rubbery & chewy. I ended up just scooping out the fish and not eating the coating. The manager apologized for the poor quality of the meal. It really is a shame since the restaurant's ambiance is so great. They just need to fix the problems in the kitchen. read more

The chicken is dry, the indian nachos are boring, the shepards pie was far too salty; nothing but ground meat, a few dried out peas, and old potatoes. Perhaps my expectations for this place were a little too high. It was recommended by a good friend. I've lived in the neighborhood 4 months and have been there as many times. The beer selection is great. I used to live a block from the Hopleaf in Chicago, and Graydon's can definitely go toe to toe on the beer, draft especially. But the food, meh. I've been disappointed every time. I can't understand why people like the Indian Nachos. I love nachos and I love Indian food, but using a giant mound of potato chips with too little topping doesn't cut it for me. The wrap and quesadilla were both also very average. I really want this place to be great. I live near-by and I love beer and pub grub, especially spicy pub grub. Based on food, I'd probably give Graydon's 3 stars, but the service is my real complaint. There's a little guy with glasses runs around asking everybody about their eating and drinking. Owner and manager participation at a place is great. But this guy was trying to chastise me for drinking my beer out of the wrong glass. Sorry boss, but I requested the glass. I brew my own beer, and know what kind of glass I'd prefer, thanks. Interesting menu. Fantastic draft beer list. Ruination IPA on tap made my bf's day. I love that you can get a tulip glass instead of the larger pint glass so you can try more beers. The burger was amazing. Really really good. It came with these yummy pickled veggies. The batter on the onion rings was amazing. The two bummers: multiple fruit flies and the onion rings were reeeeally salty to the point that I didn't eat them all. Nevertheless, we will be back! read more

When I walked in for lunch on Wednesday afternoon I was pretty excited to finally be able to eat here. A lot if my friends talked the place up pretty high. Upon walking in I was very impressed with the look and the feel of the place. I was also impressed with the menu. It was still rather early so I opted to drink a diet coke. I realized that this place is a bar, but CLEAN YOUR LINES! The soda was disgusting. My friend then ordered poppers and when they arrived they looked really good, but the taste was underwhelming. Nice try and an A for originality, but overall they failed. For my main entree I ordered a Chicken Tandoori Wrap. As a lover of Indian cuisine I was taken with idea of turning this Indian staple into a wrap. Once again great idea with horrible results. First off that was not Tandoori it was chicken salad with Indian spices. I also cook Indian food as a hobby so I REALLY wanted to like this. Sadly I did not, not even close. I've been to many restaurants throughout the midwest. Chicago, Indianapolis, Madison, Detroit, and all over Michigan. And I have never seen such an interesting concept anywhere else. From reading there menu I come to find that it is inspired by the fusion of food that was born of the United Kingdoms occupation of India. You are sure to be surprised of what you will find on this menu (unless you check it out on line like I did) Although I was not familiar with some of the terms that they used to describe the food I was able to satisfy my most in-depth questions about such by asking my server. He was extremely knowledgeable on both the food and drink menu. And made one of the best (mixed right in front of me to order) bloody marys I have ever had. My husband ended up trying many beers, our server Rich just kept finding beers that my husband loved. I think he is reconsidering what beer is after our visit. We shared the chili bacon poppers, and they were amazing, they came recommended by our server. Fish and chips were equally delightful. My husband had an indian inspired roast beef and couldn't get enough. I am surprise to read on here that people were unsatisfied with portions cause both my husband and I were stuffed. But after we sat a little and chatted we decided to share the bread pudding. whoa, this thing was huge! Enough for four people after dinner there. It was the best thing i have had in a long time. Second visit---STILL GREAT. They have one of the most imaginative menus you will ever see. This time I started with the gorgonzola salad followed by a catfish special on curried rice ---it was superb. My wife had the butter quinoa soup followed by asparagus and mushroom Diane and said it was the best thing she has had in a long time. We had started with cocktails and I ordered a Glenfidich and got one of the best pours I've ever had. The wines with dinner were perfect. If you are a beer connoisseur this is your place--their beer menu and specials go on forever. Alex did a great service job. I really wanted to like this place more than I did. My mother-in-law took us here the other day for an early dinner. The inside The inside reminds me of pubs in England with all of it's wood furnishings and tons of beer rags hanging on the walls. Can't decide from the book of beer selections? The waiter will gladly recommend something to suit for tastes. You could probably come back everyday for months and not have to have the same beer twice. We got the avocado and herbed goat cheese spread as our appetizer. It comes with crostinis and Graydon's crackers. The goat cheese has green curry mixed into it. Quite tasty and original. For dinner, I ordered the kale and pistachio risotto. I was sadly let down by this. It didn't have any real flavor. It was like they mixed kale, pistachio and onions in with overcooked rice. My husband does a far better risotto made at home. Mother-in-law had the drunken porchetta. This was good, but definitely not something special. It came with sweet potato hash, which she quite enjoyed, and bourbon bitter greens. The hash was a lighter take on your typical potato hash, which was nice. My husband had the drunken cow burger. This was the standout of the dinner. Full of flavor and juicy. Even the onion rings and garlic aioli that he ordered with it were fantastic. Will we come back? Probably. Was expecting basic bar food but pleasantly surprised by solid selection of entrees at reasonable prices. Huge portions. I had Ron Burgundy. Beef was a bit fatty and tough but well seasoned and mixed with mash and carrots. I'm a wine guy, which is asking a lot from a pub, but had decent cab franc that paired well with main course. Asparagus Diane app was a hit with goat cheese that blended flavors. Nice mix of all kinds of people. Good find. read more

Masterful Beer Selection, with a lot of Michigan beers, ciders, and even meads.. .I've been to this very comfortable, very inviting English pub restaurant bar a couple times and it sure is becoming one of my favorites in the Grand Rapids area. The food is very well prepared, with top quality selected ingredients, and the way they blend and create their flavors and dishes is nothing short of admirable.. One of my favorite places in town. The drinks are great and the number of drinks on their drink menu is pretty much endless. You need to sit down and order a drink and then go through the big black book of drinks. If you wait to order, it will take you forever. The food is also great. Holy cow...I thought I wanted Indian food when visiting GR for a day, but after seeing the menu, my husband and I thought we'd give Indian fusion a try. Truly amazing! We got a flight of 10 beers (there's 60 on tap), a few appetizers, and then the pasty and shepard's pie (I know, not at all Indian)...and we were blown away! Food is hit or miss depending on who is cooking it seems. The beer list is awesome and they have a huge selection. Service is awful. Just awful. I was able to ignore the service for a while because I enjoyed the draught list, but this last visit was the last straw. We sat down, it took them 10 mins for the wait staff to come take our drink order. Then another 10 mins to have it delivered. I ordered a southern tier 2x rye. A great beer. Red in color and bold in flavor. However when the waiter brought my beer is was crystal clear and yellow in color. I questioned the waiter and he assured me that this was the right beer. I said ok. He left I tried it and I was sure it wasn't what I ordered. I flagged him down and told him. He said that the rye flavor was really light and again assured me this was the right beer. I took his word for it again. Took so more sips and was convinced this wasn't right at all. I got the manager and told him what I ordered and he took one look at the beer and said, "this is not what you ordered because what you ordered ran out two days ago. This is Hamms". Wow. The waiter literally lied to me. I questioned him and he actually did the smack his forehead and said "silly me I'm sorry". Seriously. This happened. The manager was great about the whole situation though. We had a groupon that gave us one dish for free, he ended up giving us all the food for free. We just had to pay for a couple drinks. Not impressed with our first experience at Graydon's Crossing. Walked in and nobody greeted us or directed to find our own seat and there was two wait staff who saw us walk in. Our waitress was not smiley or very friendly but did a decent job on taking care of us. We were given a complimentary mango chutney & Indian crisps appetizer. The crisps were very thin and delicate, not good for dipping but tasty. The chutney was good. I ordered the Chicken Pasty. Size wise it might not be big enough for hearty eaters since it doesn't come with anything else. The puff pastry crust was raw/doughy around the inside edges. My son who has cooked in restaurants for many years said the gravy on the pasty tasted like it was canned after taking a bite. The chicken in the pasty was little dry flakes. Not shredded, not ground, rather small flakes which I found odd. I would expect at least small chunks.The pasty came with 2 slices of raw cucumber and a few julienne cut carrot strips. Flavor wise I found the pasty bland and would not order it again. I've had much better tasting pasties at Mackinaw City, MI pasty stands. To the wait staff and restaurants credit they did politely give me another pasty when I told them the crust was under cooked, offered me a free salad while I was waiting (which I declined) and gave me a gift certificate for the full price ($12.00) of my pasty without me asking for it. My (adult) son ordered the Cuban sandwich. The sandwich was $8.00 and didn't come with fries or even chips or a pickle. Chips were offered a la carte. Sheesh! Meat was very skimpy on his sandwich. He wasn't impressed with the flavor. The food wasn't that great, plus its over priced for what you get and small portions. If I didn't have a gift certificate I probably wouldn't go back. read more

One of the worst premier league bars in the country. Claim to be a man city bar but absolutely no actual supporters to be found, and when true supporters of football want to watch Liverpool they refuse to change the channel. They would rather have Everton on. Also food and drinks were disgusting, bar tender was a jerk, and the environment was terrible. Graydon's is a pretty cool, laid-back place. I came here with a friend of mine who's a regular, and we stuck around for a few hours drinking, playing board games, and catching up. The atmosphere was very chill, and it was amusing hearing another table's Jenga game come crashing down periodically. I'd definitely come here again. read more
