I was across the street at the Full Circle record / Misfitz Audio vintage stereo equipment store and the guy working there pointed out Brass Ring Brewing when I mentioned finding a brewery for lunch. I was impressed. I enjoyed an IPA and then a Porter, and had the Cheez'lizcious sandwich. The beer was excellent and their take on a grilled cheese sandwich was yummy! English style brewpub and a favorite for the locals. Huge fan of their rotating Cask Marque beers, so make sure to ask what's on tap for the day. Atmosphere is always bumping--there's live music and other themed nights and it was jam packed on a Tuesday night. Vibes and beers are unmatched in my opinion. Big fan of the Golden Ticket and the Wilde Irish Red Ale or again, whatever is on cask. As far as the food goes, it's definitely... brown plates all around. Fryz'licious was slightly overpowering with the amount of beer cheese slopped on there, but a good bite with some hot sauce. Big fan of the beer cheese. Those Nantucket Backing pretzels are 10/10. Fish and chips weren't great. Not a lot of fish--two pieces with more batter than cod. Sort of disappointed with that. St. Patrick's Day specialty menu replaced their chicken pot pie with a sheperd's pie and a Bailey's cheesecake. Sheperd's pie was a good bite, exactly what I'd imagine lamb, mashed potatoes, and peas/carrots would taste like. Beer here is excellent. First time having a nitro cask IPA and man, it goes down smooth. Can't wait to try the other options (red ale, lager). Their butter chicken naanrito is basically chicken curry rice wrapped in a large piece of naan bread. Could hardly taste the garlic aioli. Was expecting more curry sauce as the rice was a bit dry on its own. The fries were good. Apparently no scotch eggs until the fall! read more

I'll start this by saying I didn't have any food, we pretty much came here to try the beer. We were greeted by Conner, who honestly made this the best end to our day trip to Grand Rapids. Conner is passionate about their beers and informative. He made our beer tasting fun and gave us so much information about cask beer. The variety is great, based on English and Irish grains. The cask- a must get. They hand pull 4 varieties along with their draft. Great stuff. Ask how it's made- super interesting. The brewery is located in a plaza, quaint and quiet-so don't overlook it. Fantastic find in Grand Rapids. English style brewpub with comfort food. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Relaxing atmosphere. What more could you ask for? I was happy to see several standard British beer styles on the tap list. Additionally, four beers on cask beer engine. Also the fact they serve half pints meant I could try several styles. Our waitress was excellent, super friendly, checked up on us a good amount. English pub themed. Pretzel was FABULOUS! It looked like it could have been dense and heavy-complete opposite! Light snd crispy, that crispiness surprised me, but was wonderful on the palate. I don't order brisket a lot, but on a sandwich l was expecting the meat to be more shredded, but it wasn't. It was more of a fork and knife sandwich. Beef was tender, and a good portion, but l was left wanting more of the chipotle flavor. They have a long bar area l would like to explore more. Ok, let me start out by saying the beer is outstanding and the cask brew is over the top. The first visit the food was very good, second visit last summer the food was outstanding! Tonight the food was sub par. I had the meatloaf special. Not saying it was horrible but the portion was pretty light for the price. Decent flavor but not over the top. Patty Melt was not even close to what I had last Summer. The bread was barely grilled, few onions & cheese. Fries were limp and cold. To the server's credit he brought a serving of hot fries. I had to tweak the leftover patty melt by grilling over with fried onions and more cheese. I will come back as everyone can have an off day... read more

We stopped in after dinner at the old goat since we wanted some more drinks. We were seated immediately and served immediately with a smile. Everything came out super fast and our gentleman server was very friendly and cordial. The drinks were very tasty, blueberry spritz cider and my wife got the code draft. We split a strawberry cheesecake dessert and though I will admit it was probably the best cheesecake I've had in a really long time, it was $10 for the small slice so that seemed high. Food dishes that came out around us looked very intriguing and yummy so we said we'll definitely have to come back to try it. Fun atmosphere inside, looked like they were hosting a game night with a couple tables with groups playing different games. My husband and I have traveled to over 86 breweries in this state- and this spot found its way up to top 5 easily. The custom cocktails were delicious- great spirits and fresh ingredients. The cask beers? My husband said it was the smoothest IPA he's ever had in his life. The food? Some of the best brewery food I've ever had. The beer cheese was delicious. My husband got the Cuban and it was great.. and my naanarrito? No words.. delicious. Only thing was the loaded curry fries. I've been coming to this brewery religiously almost since they opened. The quality craft beers, warm atmosphere, friendly laid back staff, and fun regulars kept me coming back, and I've had many great memories in this establishment. That's why it breaks my heart that I'm probably never going to set foot in there again. It's not a reflection of the staff, the food, the beer, or the clientele, which is why I don't think it's fair to put a star rating on this review, but yelp won't let me post it if I don't. It has become alarmingly clear in recent months that the owners do NOT value the wellbeing of their guests or staff. On two separate occasions, when a customer has been banned from their establishment for inappropriate or harassing behavior towards other bar guests, these people have been allowed back after they "learn their lesson." Despite the manager reassuring me that the man who was harassing me and making me cry in public wouldn't be welcomed back, a few months later it's all water under the bridge in the owners' eyes. I guess his money is worth more than mine. The straw that broke the camel's back was a bizarre incident this past Saturday evening near closing time, when both owners got into a literal SCREAMING match with a former employee at the bar--not only in front of regular customers like me, but a poor couple visiting from out of town. I can't imagine the discomfort they must have felt! If this is how the owners choose to conduct themselves in front of guests, I don't want any part of it anymore. I'm so uncomfortable and feel like they don't value the safety or wellbeing of their guests at all, only their own egos and bottom lines. It breaks my heart, but I can't go back. I genuinely hope this incident can be a wakeup call and they can get their act together, but I doubt it if their past behavior is any indication. read more

Working on our dog friendly breweries in Grand Rapids list, so we visited this UK-inspired brewery in Alger Heights neighborhood. Their patio is so cute and enclosed in flowers, making it a great environment. It helps block off the road traffic making it also feel private. On top of that, the beers and food were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised by their homemade ranch as that's always hit or miss but I loved sipping my super crispy fries in it. Prices are reasonable about $15 for most things and you get great portion sizes with lots of yumminess. Our waiter was possibly the most positive person in the world. So nice and happy and bubbly; he was a joy! It was a great experience and we will definitely eat and drink here again with our dog. Parking is in back. read more

They clearly appreciate serving well crafted beer. We have gone a number of times, have sat at the bar like flies, as we watched a birthday party. There was room for us all. The energy was electric. This is what we want to see, want to feel, out of our experience. Then the art on the walls is marked with the reverence for such a simple, yet endlessly different, cocktail of life that is in each brew. It's a reminder that we're being served the best, by craftsman who understands the requirement. However, they've got plenty of reviews. There's no need for some one like me to gush over them. Sure, we fall in love with their cask at first sight, but sometimes a common bar fly has something nice to write. Simply put, thank you for your craft. My husband and I reserved a shanty for our last date night out before our new baby arrives! It was perfect - warm enough inside without feeling like we were getting blasted with heaters. I got the Detroit City Root Beer and he enjoyed a Danny Whizbang. He started with the soup of the day, which was described kind of like a French onion made with their beer. He loved it! I got the pretzels with English mustard and they were tasty. For our mains I got the corned beef sandwich - delightful, not too fatty or greasy. He got the cheeseburger royale with caramelized onions. Both came with fries on the side. For dessert we split the peach and blood orange tart. This is such an under-appreciated place. I mention this place to people and it's a 50/50 shot that they have heard about it. Spread the word! Out in Alger Heights, this brewery has quite a range of offerings. They have a great variety of batch brewed beers as well as wine and ciders. The menu has a solid pub range of food. They have burgers to curry and a few things in between. They also just moved to market price steak and fries from (I think) a standard sirloin and fries. When we went, the chef's choice cut was a 12oz ribeye. The beau got the curry and inhaled the entire plate before I was even halfway through with the fries. He liked that they included some pickled onion to help with texture. The steak was cooked great and the fries paired well with the aioli. Now that it's cold and still covid, you can reserve 1 of 4 shanties outside. There are 3 or 4 slots on 3 or 4 days. The website walks you through the reservation process. You also get plenty of reminders as your reservation date approaches. They are taking safety seriously. You check-in and confirm that you are part of only 1 household. There is tape on the floor evenly spaced while you wait with your party for the shanties to be cleaned and prepped. The shanties are warm and comfortable, it didn't feel like it was 24 out at all. read more

It was a busy Friday night, but we were seated right away. I had the naanrito and my wife had an order of fries. Our food came out really quickly, which was nice. I enjoyed the naanrito, and the fries were excellent and the portion was generous. I'm not usually impressed with fries, but these are an exception. We showed up about 15 minutes b4 they closed on NYE. We were a party of six, just looking for a nightcap. Usually you can see it on the face of the host: "please go home". But NO!! The hostess there was SO GREAT, saying "come in in! We're still here", then she took our drink orders, giving detailed answers to our drink menu questions, even running and getting samples for my wife. We were served quickly and had a great (short) time there, we cant wait to go back. KUDOS to the hostess(didnt catch her name), that was SO congenial and excited to be there and wait on us at the very end of her day. Amazing!!! read more
