Love little dive bars. This place has a great little atmosphere, especially since I hold in tight to my Irish roots. We stopped here just for a drink (of course on thanksgiving eve), but even with it being the biggest bar night of the year their service was fast and efficient. The food looked great. Better then the average bar, but again I only went there to wet my whistle. Took a little trip to Grattan to try out this pub. You can definitely tell by the decor that this is an Irish pub for sure. Green everywhere. Shamrocks, the works. Old deco, but clean. We started with deep fried mushrooms. This is the only reason for the four stars. I didn't like the breading as much as I wished. I thought they were good, just had a different taste to them because of the breading. Now onto the main course. My wife got the Reuben as usual. Toasted rye was good and the sourkrout was delicious,or so I'm told. I don't like Ruebens. Fires were fried just right. I ordered the hot beef sandwich. Unbelievably good. A slice of homemade bread, a stack of beef, another slice of bread, topped with another stack of beef. All this next to homemade mashed potatoes and all that covered in gravy. They did it right. This will be worth another trip as there were a few things on the menu that I wanted to try. read more

If you like off the beaten path dive bars, this is your place. I have been going here for years with my parents for dinner or drinks or both. Its half way between Belding and Rockford (if your from this side of town its a nice drive) just south of Big Pine Island Lake. It's known for being an Irish pub but I personally like the burritos! The staff is quick and friendly. You won't get gourmet food here but you'll get way better than average bar food. read more

It's a family tradition to go shooting the day after thanksgiving and then go to Grattan Irish pub for lunch. I've been three times, and I'm sure I'll be back. The building its self is your standard hole in the wall dive bar, it's pretty dark and not much has changed over the years, but I personally think gives the place character. The service tends to be a bit slow, but that's not surprising since there are usually about 10 of us. I had the wet burrito, which was good, but not the best I've had. I had a wing ding which was really good, from what I remember the burgers are better than average and my cousins club sandwich looked pretty awesome. I do remember not being overly impressed by the Philly sandwich. Over all this is a typical small town local bar serving better than average standard bar fare. Nothing fancy, there is room for improvement. I wouldn't go out of my way to make a special trip here, but it's a good option if you're in the area. read more

Went there for dinner with a large group from work. We were working at the speedway and this was the closest place we could find. We were starved so we decided to give it a try and I'm glad we did because it was great. Most of us had the all you can eat fish, which was perfect. All our food was cold. My friend ordered the smothered chicken and it was raw. If you're going to eat here stick to the burgers. We won't be back. It wasn't crowded there was no reason for cold food. I have gone to Grattan Bar for YEARS, usually never having an issue. But a couple months ago some of our friends and I went in for the Thursday burger special and were denied service because the 25 year old waitress "didn't like us". So I have not been back since. My friends on the other hand continued to go. Last week, my friends and their parents got denied service because the waitress "didn't like them". I am very disappointed in the staffing of Grattan Bar. We will start bringing our service to Harvard Bar! read more

That was an awful dining experience. The food took over an hour. After about 40 minutes, the waitress finally brought my daughter's appetizer and said "entrees are coming right up." They came over 30 minutes later. When the entrees finally came, only 2 of the 6 arrived. 5 to 10 minutes after that, 2 more. We were then told that my daughter's entree had been goofed up, and that hers was coming later. I got my entree a few minutes even after that (#5 of 6), and my daughter got hers after everyone else was almost done eating. During the wait, my daughter had to go to the bathroom. She came back to the table to say the women's restroom was gross, with the toilet clogged. She held it and waited until we got home. It then took forever to get the check. After we got them, we promptly produced credit cards - but, after that, we were waiting so long for them to be picked up that my wife, her mother, and my daughter left. The staff saw them leave, but that did not prompt them to speed things up at all. The three of us remaining waited another 10 minutes before the checks were picked up. I tried to approach the bar with them, but the waitress was preoccupied with a couple young of guys up there and I gave up. After she took the credit cards, we waited another extended period of time to get them back. Of course, no offer of a discount on anything, not even my daughter's botched, belated order. A couple of passive "sorry for the wait" comments, and nothing more. This was despite our clearly growing irritation. My mother-in-law took my family to this place because she thought we would like it. She was really embarrassed. The food was fine, and I've heard some good things about this place. But, based on this experience, I cannot recommend going here. read more

We are regulars and usually have a great time here, but make sure to have our favorite waitresses Ricci and Kinsie. These two ladies are fun and prompt. We always avoid Michelle as she has always been curt and rude. Recently, we had a family reunion and the kickoff for us was the $5 burger and fry event. The fun Ricci and Kinsie make our experience is why we wanted to have a family reunion dinner there. I called 7 hours ahead to give a heads up about our large party coming, to request Ricci and Kinsie, and to demand to NOT have Michelle. All the servers and hostesses know not to seat us in her section on a normal basis - we just don't mesh. Then, my sister called again, two hours ahead this time, to reinstate our requests. When we arrived, much to our dismay, our entire family was seated in her section - 26 people. Then she sat us regulars (5 of us) on the far end of the bar -as far away as possible even though there were closer tables available. We had to cause a loud fuss in order to be moved closer. My mom was very upset (as was I) at the blatant disrespect we were being shown and that the girls we requested were not our servers. The one we specifically named out to refuse to use, took our party. My mom went outdoors to cool down and another customer came out to smoke. He could see she was upset and struck up a conversation with her. Apparently he heard, as our large party was coming in, Michelle state to the hostess to NOT sit them in any section other than her own as she wanted the "big tip". Unacceptable. Our family would have happily waited to be seated in increments as tables in our requested sections came open. While we usually love this bar, this blatant disrespect shown to us Ricci and Kinsie has put a sour taste in this regular's mouth. read more

Don't order the "white" fish with dill sauce. The "white" fish is grayish white, the sauce is white and unappealing. For $13.99 a total rip-off since it was inedible. We told the waitress we would take it home for the barn cats. The sides we ordered, chili and baked potato were fine. The bread was warm and good. Also had the wing ding basket, good, typical bar food. Had Long Island Ice Teas. They were fine, but at $9 each, expensive for bar liquor. Top shelf even more according to waitress who was great. You get 3 very large fillets dusted with flour and fried to perfection!! All are generous in size and prepared well with great flavor. Beer prices are good and service has been great every time. This is one of those "tucked away" places that the locals have favored for years. Not fancy but they do a great job. The food is very good, I've never had a meal I did not enjoy. We stopped in on Saturday and St. Pat's was in full swing. I had a reuben and my friend had a corned beef. Both were great. In the past I've tried the whitefish and the steaks. My wife and I both got a bad impression as soon as we entered the pub. The place was dark, dingy, and didn't look very clean. The tables were wobbly and our seats were dirty from the previous customers. Even though it wasn't busy when we arrived, our waitress took five minutes to approach our table because she was too busy talking to the other servers. Food: I ordered a sandwich, which was brought out looking quite sloppy and thrown together. The fries were soggy and there was grease all over the plate from, what I'm assuming, the cook putting the sandwich on the plate. My wife, who is a vegetarian, ordered the bean burrito. Our server informed her that, despite the menu saying it's a vegetarian option, it's not. The beans have animal lard and the sauce has beef gravy in it. Needless to say, she ordered something different. While waiting for the food, I used the restroom and happened to glance into the kitchen while walking by. It was dirty and the cook wasn't wearing a hair net or hat and even ran his hands through his greasy looking hair--GROSS. We were not impressed. Awful service, dark and dingy, and dirty. I stopped in with my family on Saturday May 18 around 8:00pm-it was packed in there. I had the most delicious cheeseburger. We all loved our meals and our server. I stayed for an hour or so to listen to the band they had and the music was GREAT! I would of stayed to eat and drink longer if I didnt have little ones with me.
