Wow. What a sleeper place. Have always been told that this place has to be tried out. Your typical Irish pub on the outside and inside. Staff were all pleasant and good times to be had. This place is a hidden gem. Ever since they banned smoking the place continues to get better & better. I recommend the grattan burger and when they have fish fry. I would recommend not drinking their draft beer and going with bottled beer. The place has the "up north" charm. Great place to ride your snowmobile in the winter. read more

No parking available at Bostwick Lake Inn, so we ended up here. Food was better than 'good', came in a reasonable length of time, and was reasonably priced. Portions (of everything) were huge! Rest of cruise group stayed Bostwick Lake Inn, had over-priced food after substantial wait -- but the food was good. We're glad we ran across the Grattan Irish Pub. read more

My family has been here numerous times... While the food was good, the waitress was AWFUL. Never have I felt so disrespected by a waitress in my life! I have been both a waitress and bartender, and while we went to Grattan on New Years Eve, it was completely dead. She made it CLEAR that we were nothing but a pain in her butt. Awful! Sent my steak back twice and it still wasn't done and I ordered it medium. Never got my salad and my house specialty cheesy potatoes were crunchy. Slow and inattentive waitress. Waited a long time for drink refills. And...the loaves of bread are deep fried!? Bad experience. read more

Great service and the pub food is very well done. The burgers and onion rings stand out as well worth the drive to this little out of the way community eatery. The menu is more extensive than many pubs of similar size and locations. Our only noticeable issue was that floor help seemed overly numbered while the kitchen help must have been lacking. Stopped in for a casual dinner and some cold ones. Got there around 7 pm on a Saturday night and the place was hopping! Was able to snag a nice corner booth. My wife and I shared two sandwiches: the Ruben and Philly & Cheddar (asked to add grilled onions and peppers and they did). Both were fantastic!! The Ruben was probably one of the best I've had in a long time with homemade kraut and really good corned beef on grilled dark rye bread. Subbed onion rings for fries for one order and am glad I did. Best Reuben I have ever had. My husband had their Thursday night special a pint, burger and fries for $5.00 he raved that is was great and you can NOT beat the price. They have daily specials. Tonight went with two other couples to have the 2 sizzlers for the price of one special $9.99. The owner changed the price to $11.95 for 1st steak and $5.99 for second one. The 2 for 1 Steak was still on the menu and the poor waitress asked us not to shoot the messenger. People were not happy. Not a good business move. The menus should have been changed. We try to go to the Wednesday fish fry as often as we can during the summer when we are at our summer getaway in Belding MI. I know that the fish fry is a special, but I asked for additional cole slaw and no fries and was told no Substitutions. Cost wise I think throwing out a hugh portion of fries that could have been replaced with another 1/3 cup of slaw. I also nt\oticed that most of the wait staff are new. We had a relationship with some of the old wait staff. What Happened? Is this a new owner or has the old owner gotten greedy? Slainte' .... My boyfriend took me here for Valentine's Day and we both give this Irish Pub a huge thumbs up! We had the potato wedges for an appitezer and they were loaded with lots of creamy cheese, delicious. For our entree' we had the hot roast beef sandwich with mashed potato and gravy. DELICIOUS! The prices were extremely reasonable. It has an atomoshpere of a close nit neighborhood with folks who visit regularly. The restroom was clean however very small space but it serves the purpose. We will be making the short trip from GR to visit a little more often. The daily specials will be well worth the extra drive. The food was mediocre and overpriced. The service was terrible. The band was so loud it was impossible to have a conversation. When you walk into a restaurant in the middle of a Michigan winter you expect it to be warm, not freezing as the Grattan Irish Pub was. My husband and I had a $25 Groupon for this Pub. We knew ahead of time it could not be used for their nightly special. I cut the Coupon out on the dotted lines which included the bar code and expiration date. The waitress immediately told me I needed the whole sheet of paper and they couldn't take it like that because it didn't have our name on it or the date we purchased it. If you are familiar with Groupons, they don't have your name on them. After about 10 minutes of the waitress going back and forth between us and the owner in the back room, they decided to Honor our Groupon. If only it ended there. Now as we try to order: we couldn't have steak or pork chops because their special is fish and they don't grill anything on fish night, and of course, we couldn't order the special of fish. Grilled chicken was out too. Ordering became unbelievably complicated and the waitress had to keep checking to see if we could order something. Finally my husband ordered a wet burrito and I ordered fried shrimp with salad and French fries. If only the night had made a turn for the better. My salad was full of onions chopped up under the lettuce and drenched in dressing. My shrimp and fries were mediocre. My husband, who loves wet burritos, was very disappointed in his meal and only ate a small amount. Our waitress never checked back on us, but was busy with the other servers just standing around talking to each other. Our bill was $24.7something. The waitress told us we needed to order something else because she couldn't ring it up unless it was over $25. We said we didn't care if we lost the change but she was quite insistent we needed to order something. We refused. She said we needed to pay the tax on our meal. Fine. Let's see, 6% of $24.7 something is $1.48. She charged us $3.81 tax. In Michigan the sales tax is 6%. So figure that one out. By then we just wanted to leave and leave the whole bad experience behind so we just paid the inflated tax and left, after leaving a $5 tip. First and last time there. Buy their Groupon with extreme caution. read more

We had really high hopes when we got there. It was busy, so we thought the food must be good, but we were so wrong. First off, calling it an Irish Pub is completely false. They had absolutely no Irish food on the menu. The closest thing they had was a corned beef sandwich. Second, the beers on tap were Budweiser and Miller Lite. They didn't even have Guinness. As for the food we ordered, my son got the chicken tenders off of the kids' menu for 4.99, which consisted of 2 small chicken tenders that you could tell had come from frozen package and apple sauce. We had to ask our waitress twice for a spoon, so we were all done with our meals before he even got a spoon for the apple sauce. The service was slow and very inattentive. My meal and my husband's meal were also both mediocre at best. I got the cod, and he got the burger and french fry special. The fries tasted like they came frozen out of a bag, and the burger was dry. We will definitely not be returning. read more
