Our room was small and cozy and we had the room to ourselves until the restaurant got busy. We both ordered the 8 oz sirloin with the garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Steak was tasty and grilled to order. The potatoes were chunky, rustic and garlicky. I ended up eating all of them against my better judgement. They were so good. Only downside was a pesky fly that would not go away and kept landing on our food. But not really the restaurant's fault! read more

The atmosphere here is hodgepodge meets rustic. It feels like multiple ideas were slammed together. In the end though it works. Just an FYI the entrance is in the back. I ended up ordering the Roadhouse Burger ($15). This is a 1/2lb black angus burger with chopped bacon, sautéed bourbon onions, haystack onions, garlic herb cheese spread and BBQ sauce on a pretzel bun. The Burger was okay. I really liked all the toppings. My 2 issues were the burger wasn't very juicy, plus meat quality was also only okay. The other was the bun was a little dry, maybe stale. I've had so many better burgers, it wasn't technically bad, just very ehhh. I also upgraded to asparagus ($2.5) as my side. They were cooked properly and tasted very good. A sauce or something would take them to another level. The person I was with ordered the Cajun Bleu Cheese Burger ($15). This is a Cajun seasoned 1/2lb black angus burger served with bacon, mushrooms, and crumbled bleu cheese served on a Kaiser roll. This person actually really enjoyed her Burger. Hers was cooked medium rare while mine was medium, plus different buns, so maybe that made a difference. They were short staffed with only one waitress covering. So she was a little frazzled. However she did a good job and was still friendly in the process. The other issue with this business I had was their website and actual are not the same. The websites menu states on Saturday it's brunch till 3pm them dinner menu at 3pm. We cane at 3pm, because I wanted the pot roast. Nope we are told it's Lunch menu only. If I had known that I probably wouldn't have come here Overall I'll give a 3 star review. It's not a bad place, just not anywhere near my favorite. Would I return? Probably not. We are relatively regular customers here as the food is generally good, reasonably priced and service most often good. Celebrating our anniversary tonight before a show downtown. My wife ordered my usual, perch. The portion is usually quite large and this was even larger than normal, 6 very large fillets and a mound of fries. I had the seared tuna which was a new choice for me. Again, pretty large portion and good, not great but good. There were a couple of surprises however; I asked about substituting the 2 sides listed for the tuna and was told no problem. Since their sides are listed as $4 or $5 on the menu, I assumed an up charge but was surprised that it was $2.50 per side? Not sure where they come up with that. We did get there in time for happy hour and it was $1 off our bar tab.....so, probably not worth going for a happy hour drink if you are looking for a deal. A group of us stopped by Cascade Roadhouse after playing some pickleball at the park nearby. We had six adults, a toddler, and a baby. We wanted to sit outside in the cute little hidden patio area in back so we had a bit of a wait, but there are a few really big tables that can fit larger parties. Watch your knees as we had a couple guys smash theirs on the supporting beams, ouch. (Obviously not the restaurant's fault, just a heads up!) It was a Friday evening so I was intrigued by the option of prime rib dinner, which they only offer on Friday and Saturday nights. I kept going back and forth between that and the perch, but ultimately decided on prime rib since it's not something that you see very often. Our server Emily was so great - super on top of everything and really nice. She accommodated our order of the kid's mac and cheese with our drink order so we could get the hungry toddler some food as quickly as possible. It worked, and the mac and cheese came out soon after. She loved it! We also ordered some appetizers to share - the loaded potato skins and the bang Thai shrimp. The shrimp was really yummy - crispy and coated with the typical "bang bang" sauce. The potato skins were good and pretty loaded. Our food all came out at the same time and everything looked great. The prime rib was a nice medium rare, as requested. The accompanying steamed broccoli was a bit boring and bland, but a little salt helped. The meat was tasty and I'm glad I got to try it. I had a couple bites of Nate's reuben, which was very good. We all really liked the fries - they are the extra crispy on the outside beer battered type. I'm glad we went back to Cascade Roadhouse because I enjoyed this visit more and service was much better. I'm not out this way super frequently, but it's a good option in the area. read more

I recently visited Cascade Roadhouse with a few friends, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. We were the only customers in the restaurant at the time, but as teenagers, we felt like we weren't treated fairly or respectfully. When we placed our order, the server repeatedly said, "That's it?!" in a tone that felt rude and judgmental. After that, she snatched our menus out of our hands and stormed off without another word. It was uncomfortable and made us feel unwelcome from the start. Even though the restaurant was completely empty, the service felt rushed and dismissive. We came in ready to enjoy a meal and support a local business, but instead we left feeling embarrassed and disrespected. I understand that everyone can have a rough day, but no customer should be treated that way--especially when we were polite and respectful the entire time. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and ensures that every guest, regardless of age, is treated with kindness and professionalism. read more

It's been years since we've reviewed the Roadhouse. In their defense, the only thing consistent about a restaurant is the physical building and furniture; staff come and go. In my last review I raved about the Reuben Sandwich being the best I'd ever had. Well, scratch that. My wife and I visited the restaurant yesterday and we both ordered past favorites. The Reuben for me, the fried perch for her. Let me just say before continuing that the service was excellent. This was without a doubt the worst Reuben sandwich I've ever had, and I love Reubens and order them frequently. To begin with, a Reuben must be on rye bread, marble or dark preferably. I suspect this may have been a "white" rye. There were no signs of it having been on a griddle. I asked to have it cooked more. It came back with faint grill marks on the white surface. There is to be sauerkraut on the Reuben. After a bite when I couldn't taste it I went looking for it. I had to remove most of the corned beef to find a teaspoon of sauerkraut on the middle of the bread. Sauerkraut is NOT expensive! There did seem to be an adequate portion of corned beef. It was a bit tough, but I've had that elsewhere. It's a risk with that meat. I think there was Thousand Island dressing but I wouldn't swear to it. The inside of the bread was kind of orange. Moving on, my wife was given a generous portion of perch. We later joked (?) that the portion was due to so many being sent back or simply left uneaten. The perch was mushy, the coating was not crispy and it was generally without flavor. Rather than Tartar sauce , she was given mayonnaise with some spice sprinkled on top. She left several perch pieces on her plate to be recycled. A very disappointing visit to what had been one of our favorite restaurants. Hire a new cook. read more

The ambiance is much nicer than a "roadhouse," though maybe I'm too influenced by the Patrick Swayze movie. They have a couple of outdoor spaces for dining al fresco in nice weather, in more typical Michigan weather a big part of the outdoor deck is protected by clear sheets and warmed by a big fireplace. There are three different dining rooms, the place can handle a fairly large amount of customers without feeling cramped or loud. The spacing on the tables is comfortable, the service is prompt, accurate, with good teamwork. I don't like the waste, they are very quick to refill soda drinks but they bring plastic wrapped plastic straws with every one. The food is okay. I ordered a French Dip, which was stuffed with very high quality prime rib (good), but soft squishy bread (not as good). I believe the "French" in French dip means French bread. Crusty baguette goes so well with thinly sliced beef but needs the softening of the dip, hence the combination. Also, French dip should be Swiss cheese and caramelized onion. Now as I write this I wonder if it wasn't called a French dip but rather a Prime Rib dip. The au jus was good, the whole thing just would have been more than okay if it was on French bread, whatever it's called. read more

If I could give a half star I'd go to 3.5 . We went on Saturday at 5:30 and they were already busy due to the prime rib special. We grabbed a table for 4 in the bar and ordered drinks , bartender couldn't get vodka tonic correct as she kept using soda instead . Cosmos were not very well balanced and the Apple old fashioned had soda water added and was watered down , they need help behind the bar with classic recipe consistency . The prime rib was a good portion but the mashed potatoes dry and like a hard ball on the plate and the broccoli was under cooked . I FINALLY was able to not only get a pic of the bang thai shrimp, I got my happy hour fix. For happy hour you get up to 10 shrimp for $6 and it is worth every penny of it. I asked for 3 orders without lettuce and although I know I may not eat all of them, I knew I had extras to go. Just like the first time I had them they were hot, crispy and that sauce? Delicious! We were seated right at our reservation time and greeted with water, but then our waitress disappeared. After waiting a while, we went to the bar to let someone know we were ready to order, but the older gentleman behind the bar was quite snobby when we asked. Everything I've ever gotten here has been good. The blackened salmon was the choice today w rice pilaf and Brussels sprouts. I will say not my favorite Brussels sprouts. They were mushy. They need to be crispy. I wouldn't get them again. But I've had the salmon blt which is phenomenal. I've had the prime rib which is always great. The French dip is a usual constant for me unless I try to stray to try more. And their fries are stellar. Cascade Roadhouse is a family friendly restaurant with a huge patio and wide variety of food items on their menu. They do offer free rolls at the beginning of your meal. One thing I didn't love or know until the end is that you have to ask for them or you will miss out on them... instead of them just bring them to you. I wouldn't have know they did this until I saw someone else do it... since I was new eating here. I highly recommend the bang Thai shrimp appetizer. They were amazing, not too spicy and the perfect amount of crisp!! I had the caesar salad and my husband had the gouda chicken wrap. I rated this restaurant a 4/5 stars because both the wrap and the salad weren't anything special... BUT still delicious and we're filling! I had plenty of salad to take home. If you are looking for a low key family restaurant I highly recommend checking this place out... and don't forget... ASK for the rolls! read more

Met up with friends for dinner, so taking our time and enjoying catching up. Our server was very pleasant and catered to our needs whether drink refills or ordering food. We got the Buffalo dip for the table (always a tasty starter) , and I ordered an April special : spicy Diablo pasta which was fantastic! The shrimp, sausage and peppers paired great with a spicy sauce, such flavor in every bite but does have quite the kick so stay away if you don't like some heat. My wife got the burger and sweet potato fries and that was just as delicious. Hearty portion sizes that weren't lacking (sometimes get that with pasta). The Cascade Roadhouse is a great casual restaurant on the east side of Grand Rapids. The decor has a relaxed "roadhouse" feel with a nice bar area. They also currently have covid-19 friendly outdoor dining! While at the Cascade Roadhouse for lunch I tried their Santa Fe Wrap- it was so amazing! My kiddos had the kids perch and the kids grilled cheese. Both were very good and the portion sizes were way larger than other kids' meals! Restaurants continue to be closed for indoor dining in in Michigan. After months of take out and eating in my car, I've basically had it. Eating outside in 30 degree weather isn't my thing either. It's been too cold to golf so my golfing buddies and I have been going to various "outdoor" venues to have drinks and basically stay in touch. This is how I "rediscovered" Cascade Roadhouse. They have a very nice outdoor patio that is perfect when the weather is good. Given the challenges of trying to survive in the current political and economic environment, they erected private eating and drinking areas around the entire perimeter of the patio since they are not allowed to use the seating inside the restaurant. Primitive-maybe, functional-absolutely, innovative-for sure. Once seated, it is actually quite warm and comfortable. Most of us removed our coats. (who wants to eat all bundled up?) Since this is an updated review, we visited three times before writing this update. Conclusions-food has been excellent each time whether ordering a medium rare burger or appetizers and drinks. Service has been outstanding with a genuine appreciation for your business. Any restaurant operating in Michigan currently has two strikes against them for survival. Cascade Roadhouse has combined good food with even better service so I will continue to come here often. read more

We had dinner there this evening for our friends 50th birthday. We had a terrible experience. The server was incredibly rude. One in our party had to wait at least 20 minutes for a beer. Half of our party received their food and the other half had to wait another 10 minutes to get their meals. When we asked our server how much longer we would have to wait she was incredibly rude and told us to be patient because they were very busy. Also the people delivering our food were not in uniform. They had dirty sweatpants or jeans and dirty t-shirts on. It was awful! Will never go back again. read more

I'll would probably revisit, but for a cocktail and something at the bar only. Here's why. I have visited three times. The first time was a positive experience. I had the salmon dinner and my husband had the pot roast. We loved all of it. We visited about two weeks ago. Had the whitefish dip appetizer, perch dinner, and wings and coleslaw as a dinner. The whitefish was mostly cream cheese with very little other flavors. The perch was so over cooked, one side turned into a papery consistency and all the meat was fried away. Perch-jerky. The wings were unremarkable as was the coleslaw. We were surprisingly disappointed and chalked it up to an off night. We returned yesterday for lunch. I ordered the club sandwich written up as oven cooked turkey breast with sliced ham, cheddar cheese etc. Oscar Mayer was missing from the write up. It was a cold cut flavorless sandwich, and the lettuce and tomato were not in their prime "use by date". My husband ordered a burger. Not much flavor, but better than the sandwich. I pushed mine aside and had a few bites of his. The high cost of food and business expenses puts a lot of weight on the restaurant business. I get it. From a consumer's position, it's a luxury, and it's one luxury I'm willing to drop. I'm tired of wasting my hard earned cash for lack luster food and low level experiences. I could have made this experience so much better at home with Boars Head and fresh lettuce. read more

We were seated quickly on Friday 11/29/19. They give you delicious rolls flavored w/ herbs to enjoy while you wait for your food. We ordered the kid's grilled cheese w/ broccoli for our toddler- she enjoyed it. I enjoyed my Brussels sprout, grilled chicken salad- their ranch dressing is tasty. My husband had a blk bean burger and side salad- he enjoyed those items and a beer. Our server was friendly and we were seated by the fireplace- it gives off legit heat! The service was fine but the food quality has gone so far downhill. I ordered the sirloin and it was the lowest quality, extremely tough and full of gristle and the gross stuff. My daughter ordered the Gouda pasta and it tasted like a cheap Alfredo, not even a hint of smoked Gouda. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I had actually written this place off over a year ago because I kept getting the same terrible server in addition to cold food, wrong food, etc.. well my friend picked this place and I thought OK it's been a while. I'll give it another try. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. I wasn't super hungry, so I just ordered a bowl of mushroom soup and a side salad. The mushroom soup was OK, nothing to write home about. My side salad was good and fresh but they only give you like 2 tablespoons of dressing for the salad. Our server disappeared shortly after the food was delivered by someone else. She didn't come by to check on us or anything. My friend finally flagged down the hostess nearby, and I asked for additional salad dressing. When the bill came, I saw that they had charged me $1.50 for the additional salad dressing. I called BS on this move. When the server came back I didn't have my credit card out and I told her she needed to remove that charge as I was never told about it and it was not legal for them to put a charge on there without my approval, then she said that the salad dressing was still sitting there. What is that got to do with anything? And that she wasn't the one who brought it over. Exactly! You disappeared on me completely! I try to explain to her that it didn't matter who brought me the salad dressing. The point of the matter was that I was never told that there was an up charge for it and I wasn't paying for it. She looked pretty disgusted and grabbed the tab and took it back to be removed. Then when she came back, she instigated an argument with me over how restaurants will usually charge more for extra dressing, how I didn't use it all, etc. etc.. worst demonstration of customer service I have seen in a long time! I was so mad I told the manager nearby. He apologized, but offered nothing other than an apology. My friend was shocked that he didn't take my meal off the bill or offer something monetary. I told him in no uncertain terms I would never be coming back. My friend at this point was mad also, so neither one of us tipped the horrible server. From the looks of the parking lot, plenty of people are willing to pay high dollar for mediocre food in an atmosphere, that appeals to them. I will never understand this! I have eaten in some of the best restaurants in the United States and abroad. Don't people go eat in a restaurant for the food? I get that people like a nice atmosphere, but what good is that if the food is crappy and the service is even worse? Like many have said, the food really is very bland . It's quite a shame, as this restaurant used to be so good years ago, but that was many many years ago, and whoever owns this establishment now, simply doesn't seem to care about customer service, or the quality of food they send out. read more
