One of our neighbors raved about Sheppard's and "the best potato chips around," so we tried it. It was a Friday and the place was nearly full, but we got a table right away. My partner ordered the perch dinner, which included a side salad for $25. The salad was sent back because it was sad. Some of the iceberg lettuce was discolored but the single piece of tomato was bright. The salad was exchanged for coleslaw. I ordered the fish and chips for $19 and a margarita for $9. Both fish dinners were soft, not crispy as expected. Same with the fries. All the food was warm but not hot. The margarita was like the ready-to-drink that you get at the grocery store (quite sweet). I'm glad we tried this place because it finally satisfied our curiosity. The potato chips were damn good. read more

It's been a few years since our last visit, and after today's experience make that "never again"! I know there's "sticker shock" for cars; but there should also be one for places like this! The menu in the entrance features Rueben soup- a cup or a bowl. No price! Wait until you get the bill --$8.50 a CUP ! Thankfully, we didn't each order a Bowl! The soup was mediocre at best. After questioning the price, our Waitperson assured us that the bowl was chuck-full of Corned Beef, as if that alone justified the price! (And what else goes into Rueben soup?) The $4.00 split charge for plates will not entice diners to rush back! We split the wet burrito. The portion size would justify that added cost, but not in this case! I do have to give them a "thumbs up" on the drinks; but the price points on the rest of the menu are certainly not appealing! read more

Found this gem on a recommendation. GPS took us directly to the restaurant. Large parking lot to accommodate parking and the restaurant was easily marked. There is seating outside within a black fenced area allowing patrons to bring your dog to enjoy the patio as well if interested. We decided to sit inside on this particular day. When we entered we found a booth and were promptly greeted by our waiter Alan. He was friendly, and took our drink order right away. Unfortunately we had just missed happy hour regardless I ordered a margarita with salt and my father had a Coke. The menu consisted of a variety of fish options and burgers. I ordered the perch with homemade fries and my father had the hamburger with homemade chips. My meal came with a side salad that was fresh, crispy and a perfect size to take the edge off while I waited for our meal. To my surprise we did not have to wait long and the entrees came out pipping hot. We were given space to enjoy our dinner. Michelle (one of the owner/managers) stopped by our table to check in on us. We had nothing but good things to say and were thankful Cathy and Bill had recommended Shepard's as it was exactly what we were looking for. We couldn't leave without trying one of the homemade deserts. Carrot cake or a peanut butter parfait. We went with the parfait and decided to shared it. Thank goodness because the desert was aesthetically pleasing to the eye, rich in flavor, and dense with goodness. Each bit had a little bit of everything in the scoop. So good I had to take the rest to go so my husband at home could have some. He is a peanut butter desert lover! Really enjoyed that the location was easy in and out, the facility was well lit, decorated, clean ( even the bathroom) and the staff super pleasant. Food was just so so. Handmade chicken tenders were very thin and average. Fries consisted of an order of 2 inch pieces. Will not go back.

Best food I've ever had at Anna's--Cheddar Cheese Cajun Shrimp and Grits. Thought I'd been transported to San Chez Bistro, it was that good. Though with a nautical theme, it feels like a neighborhood pub. True, that means a lot of regulars, but also an opportunity to meet new people if you're of a mind. The menu is fairly small, but adequate. Occasionally have a new special or two. It can be quiet or noisy depending on the crowd. Patio seating out front for smokers. This can be a "hot" spot at times. It's in a strip mall on south side of 28th street. Just before D&W market. Maybe a bit hard to see from the road. It's well worth it. 1st time there...extremely disappointed. VERY poor service, had to ask for napkins & cutlery 3 times, even after food was served. We ordered the "mild" sauce drummettes, but it was so spicy only two of the four of us could eat it. We complained to the waitress, but she insisted we got what we ordered...and we were charged full price for it. I had a perch sandwich w/ 3 very small pieces of fish; my husband had the perch dinner w/ 3 very small pieces of fish. His meal included a piece of lettuce, a cucumber & a slice of onion that was supposed to be a tossed salad. The "dinner" was $4 more than the sandwich, which is a pretty steep price to pay for a paltry "salad". I was also charged $.50 for a small cup of tartar sauce. We had good company or we would have walked out; very disappointed and will never go back. read more

When I heard that Sayfee's was closing, I couldn't speak. I wouldn't speak. Then I heard Dave Shepard was opening his own spot just down the way. Equally breathless. And then I heard they are serving the Corned Beef Reuben just like at Sayfee's. It's only that it's now two weeks after having it that I can even speak on it. Memories. Shepard's is someone's last name! I finally get it. I need to formally thank Yelp for clearing that up for me. Because, I kept trying to make the (non-existent) connection between someone that herds sheep and this place's nautical theme. Now that I can quit trying to figure that connection out, all that's left to figure out is the nautical theme in general... near the end of 28th St close to the neighborhood known as Cascade. The nautical theme is the first thing you'll notice about this place if you're anything like me. It doesn't exactly make sense to me, but I enjoy its weirdness. The second thing you'll notice (at least if you're my age or younger), is that most of the people in this place are probably your parents' or grandparents' age. This bar seems to attract an older, seemingly somewhat affluent crowd. However, it's a welcoming one. Drinks and food are moderately priced. Not cheap, not expensive. The drinks do tend to hover towards the strong side, but not powerfully so. The food selection is small and not particularly memorable. Chicken tenders, burgers, fries, fried mushrooms, and the turkey reuben has been on special for the past 8 months. Service here is awesome if you're a regular and just alright if you're someone who just occasionally stops in (or is stopping in for the first time). I get the distinct impression a lot of these servers have been serving here a long time. If you've not figured it out by now, Shepard's is... alright. I think this is a good place to maybe start your night, but you definitely won't be ending it here because they'll be closed and most of their patrons will have taken their medication and gone to sleep for the night. I'd say stop in for a few drinks but the food is really nothing to bother with (but that's not to say it's bad... just... alright). Maybe I'd enjoy this place a bunch more if I were a regular, but I'm not, so it just is exactly what Yelp describes as 3 stars: A-OK. read more

Just your neighborhood bar and grill with a lot of older regulars and a cute island vibe. Drinks are reasonably priced, fried mushroom appetizer was delicious and not greasy. Carrot cake is homemade. My guests were pleased with their selections: broadcaster, Chicago beef and sloppy joe special. I opted for the quesadilla which was dripping with grease and okay on flavor. Good amount of chicken, but my leftovers tasted better reheated in the oven to crisp the tortilla. I liked their fries alot. My husband found them bland, but you could tell they were cut and fried fresh. They weren't super greasy or loaded with salt. This is a good and reasonably priced for bar food. I had chicken tenders, battered but not greasy and good French fries. The wine was good and not expensive. My friend had the homemade chips,they were the best I have ever tried. Tasted like real homemade chips. This seems to be a local place. Good food. Nacho are very good and a lot of them. Burgers are great the fries are wonderful. Special has been a two brats on grill toasted buns with fries. So yummy. Hmm... it was worse than that. The smell of bleach cleaner was so bad that we could hardly breathe. Bland nachos. But service was nice.

Older crowd. Food isn't very good. Drinks are okay. It is more a place for regulars. However sometimes they have live music and it gets the old folks going. I've been there twice for the live music and had a lot of fun both times. I would recommend eating somewhere else before going though. read more
