    Happy hour menu 2/14/25
    Susan F.

Really enjoyed my experience here. My husband and I sat at the bar. The bartender was fantastic and the wait staff were really efficient. We stopped in early after finishing a ton of chores and housework. We knew we wanted fish (perch) but arrived earlier than dinner time. So, we had a few drinks snd some happy hour food. Everything was great. The PBR is cold and fresh and the happy hour specials are hard to beat. Really enjoyed ourselves! A few things to note: The bathrooms are really rough. It was 20 degrees outside when we stopped in and the bathroom may have been 50 degrees. It was really cold and there was no warm water. Hence the 4 stars. Also, the staff had a shift change and there was a bit of a fuss amongst the staff. It was a lot of drama behind the bar. Made things a bit uncomfortable, but... I guess that the ups and downs of a neighborhood bar. I'd go back... just not going to use the bathroom.

I've been coming to Birch Lodge pretty regularly for the past decade as it's close to my house and it's my favorite neighborhood dive bar! The bartenders are all on top of their game and friendly. The place isn't big and can get pretty packed, but for the most part, all the patrons are friendly with many regulars posted up at the bar. Birch Lodge is known for their MSU fans - it's such a fun atmosphere to watch a game. They have free tacos on Sundays and great daily specials on top of their famous happy hour prices - $2 and $3 food options in addition to $2 drinks! I love the sliders from the happy hour menu and the $2 frosty PBR pints. Their regular food menu is large with a lot of great choices - pretty standard bar fare here but it's all really well done. I love their fiesta chicken salad, fried egg sandwich, and their special "Perch at the Birch" fish fry every Friday, but everything I've had here is great. Their fries are beer battered and some of my favorite in town. Drinks here are relatively cheap and strong! It can get super loud inside with different bar crawls and people having fun, but if you're looking for a dive bar with personality, check out Birch Lodge. There's a dedicated parking lot which fills up quickly, but street parking is pretty plentiful on the adjacent streets. Just don't park in the lot across from Bob's Bar, as you may get towed.

Firstly, I cannot give five stars to a place that did not eat at. This weekend was our first time in Grand Rapids and we had a lot of fun. Just bouncing around to different bars and breweries. I found the Birch accidentally in a strip of other bars. We went in and were promptly greeted. It is a place where it seems like mostly regulars, but, they make you feel welcome. It's just a local type of bar with good conversation and a friendly staff. If we lived in GR this would be the type of place we would make a regular hangout!!

Absolute hidden Gem. In from out of town and this was near my hotel. Didn't get a picture of my burger with pulled pork and an egg but it was absolutely delicious. House made ranch w crispy fries was the icing on the cake for me. The service was fantastic as well. Could not recommend this dive bar more! Don't judge a book by its cover!

Well, it is a hole in the wall bar, but that's exactly what you are expecting. However, it is a TOP OF THE LINE hole in the wall. The service is great, the food is awesome, the drinks are strong, the patrons are friendly, the atmosphere is fun! What more can you ask for? I sat at the bar and had a great night with my friends. The bartender was a doll and very nice. She was incredibly busy, but did a decent job and keeping an eye on us. The food was good! I couldn't decide what to get because it all looked good. I settled on the boneless wings and they were delicious! Can't wait to go back!

I hadn't been here in awhile since the fire and then since COVID. It was Christmas Eve and all I wanted was French fries. I was estática that they were open and placed a to go order! The inside was bustling with people and holiday cheer. The decorations and music fit the day perfectly. Service was absolutely great, especially with it being a holiday. I can't wait to go back!

Atmosphere is always bumping--there's live music and other themed nights and it was jam packed on a Tuesday night. Vibes and beers are unmatched in my opinion. Big fan of the Golden Ticket and the Wilde Irish Red Ale or again, whatever is on cask. As far as the food goes, it's definitely... brown plates all around. Fryz'licious was slightly overpowering with the amount of beer cheese slopped on there, but a good bite with some hot sauce. Big fan of the beer cheese. Those Nantucket Backing pretzels are 10/10. Fish and chips weren't great. Not a lot of fish--two pieces with more batter than cod. Sort of disappointed with that. St. Patrick's Day specialty menu replaced their chicken pot pie with a sheperd's pie and a Bailey's cheesecake. Sheperd's pie was a good bite, exactly what I'd imagine lamb, mashed potatoes, and peas/carrots would taste like. Cheesecake was heavy handed on the booze, but a good palette cleanser after all the fried food.

They hand pull 4 varieties along with their draft. Great stuff. Ask how it's made- super interesting. The brewery is located in a plaza, quaint and quiet-so don't overlook it. In fact, my kids laughed at my wife when she got a salad and wasn't overly impressed "Mom, why would you get a salad at a place with great burgers?!?" My thoughts exactly. The service is decent, the space is comfortable for a downtown spot on Monroe Center. When I visit, I focus solely on the burgers and I've never been disappointed. The 'Meat Wagon', topped with ribeye, ham and bacon just wants to cuddle your belly from the inside. The 'Otto Von Burger' topped with a fried egg and bacon is one of the best examples of its kind. The 'Alabamer' is great when you're craving pulled pork and bacon on your burger. If you just want a traditional burger, you have that option and won't be disappointed. Also, the loaded fries are solid, but personally, I would pass on the fancier offerings. Remember: Burgers over fancy apps and skip the salads and you'll be fine.

We arrived right at 5 pm on a Friday and the place was almost full already! We were surprised but happy for them, and glad to get a nice cozy two-top in a back corner. We were greeted by our awesome server and ordered some food -- two different mortadella sandwiches and an order of fried pickles to start. Neither of us ordered drinks, but I saw some fun-looking cocktails coming over to nearby tables. The fried pickles came out first and they were perfection. I don't usually get this appetizer because I don't like fried pickle spears, but these were thin chips. The ratio of the fried pickle chip vs. spear is way better. And these came with the best runny ranch. It was a huge portion to split between the two of us, so we had lots left over. Our sandwiches came out shortly after and looked amazing. They were super stacked with tons of meat! I really liked the addition of the grainy mustard which helped cut through the fattiness of the meat. My friend liked hers - it had pistachio butter and ricotta (similar to a delicious sandwich I ate at a wine bar in Detroit). Portions are large and it's a cozy, neighborhood spot. They have rotating food features and are always helping out their community with free meals and other philanthropic ventures. Check them out!
