Graydon's crossing is my favorite spot in Grand Rapids, for so many reasons. 1. You can smoke indoors. 2. The beer selection is mind-boggling. Delirium Tremens on tap! 3. $2 draft specials on Sundays and Mondays. (Rogue Hazelnut for $2 is unheard of) 4. Hearty, declicious English and Colonial Indian food. I had the Westminster Abbey (bangers and mashed potatoes in a dough shell with cheddar beer sauce poured over it. Amazing) 5. Free papadum as an appetizer 6. Wi-fi 7. All I have to say is WOW! This place gets five stars both for originality of menu, beer selection, and for how freaking awesome our entire meal was from start to finish. We were visiting Grand Rapids to go to the Ford presidential library and stumbled on this place due to Yelp recommendations. I'm so glad we did! The menu is a blend of English and Indian cuisine in a style I've never experienced before. The family started with an appetizer of avocado and goat cheese spread. The goat cheese was blended with curry spices that mad the dish out of this world. We were scraping the last bits we could get off of the plate before the rest of our meal came. I ordered the avocado melt with a side of potato pancakes. The avocado melt was creamy and a little tangy due to a fantastic tomato chutney that really pulled the whole sandwich together. The potato pancakes were crisp and I had a cilantro ranch dipping sauce that paired perfectly with them. My mom got the Moroccan barley burger which she raved about and both grandparents ordered a chicken wrap that included Indian spices and was very enjoyable. To share we couldn't resist getting the Marrakesh watermelon dish. Slices of watermelon topped with pickled red onions, coconut shavings and mint leaves. It's hard to describe how wonderful this unusual combination was, so suffice to say that I would return simply to have this dish again. To top it all off, we ordered a dessert of fruit crisp with vanilla ice cream. The perfect ending to a perfect meal. We all lamented that we don't live in the area, because this would quickly become a favorite. I think the beer selection deserves its own paragraph just for the sheer volume of beer they offer. The list of beers on tap spills over onto two very long chalkboards and they have a sort of "guide book" so you can make the best selection. I ordered a pint of Midas Touch just because I was so delighted by the name and it was crisp and refreshing with grape undertones. Then I glanced at the "guidebook" and realized that you could get 3 oz tastes of all the beers. So, as part of dessert, we ordered three tastes of beers - one was a brown ale on the smokey side, one a well balanced vanilla porter, and the other another porter with caramel and coffee flavorings. I thought all were delicious and tasted so good with our fruit crisp. If you live anywhere near Grand Rapids, it is DEFINITELY worth a trip out of your way to try the food and the beer selection. read more

I love Graydon's for the Atmosphere and the beer selection. It's a place where friends and I can go and just relax and have a beer, the music selection is usually great, but not overly loud. They pretty much always have a special beer on tap like the cask conditioned Dragons Milk served at cellar temperature. Which gives you a little something that you can't get most other places. The food, what to say about the food. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's horrible. The menu is constantly changing, so it's pretty much a roll of the dice as to whether you're going to get some amazing Indian inspired dish, or a tasteless bland dish with no inspiration to speak of. If I could split up this review the food would get 3 stars and the atmosphere and beer selection would get 5. So, my advice would be to grab a few of your craft beer loving friends, grab a booth, and have a great night with your friends. If you're adventurous order some food, but don't order a bud light here, it's a beer bar, and they're beer snobs. read more

I've been to Graydon's Crossing a few times now and seem to like it more and more after each visit. The food I've tried is really good quality, portions are ample, and the service is friendly and attentive. During my last visit, I appreciated the manager stopping by our table to casually ask if we liked the food. Such attention is something you don't see at many restaurants. On this visit I had the fish and chips, which I believe were the best I've had in the Grand Rapids area. The fish was not over breaded or too oily. Under the tasty coating, the fish was firm and fresh which I really like. The fries were thin and seemed to be fresh cut, but either way were not overly greasy or soggy like at many places. My wife had the fish tacos which she said were fantastic and very fresh. Her complaint was that the meal only comes with two tacos instead of the usual serving of three found most places. Our other observation about Graydon's is that we love the Old English pub environment as we've been in many pubs in England and Ireland, however Graydon's is very dark inside which made it hard for us to read our menu's without needing to use our cell phone flash lights, which was awkward. If you are at Grand Rapids, you have to visit Graydons Crossing. This place is absolutely fabulous (good place to take a date over dinner or just unwind with a group of friends). Its a dimly lit British pub kinda environment. They probably have a gazillion beer varieties and some more awesome drinks. Yes, this could very well turn out to be a drinkers paradise =) The food takes the cake. You could find a fusion of British and Asian food. From the Shepherds pie and St. Peters Fish to a Chicken Tandoori or Rogan Josh, all these are yummilicious. I was a little surprised to find Indian food here - however the taste is not very Indian. Not to say its not to my liking, its different. As tho' the chef stuck to the recipe 80% of the time and added his own twist in the end. The desserts are pretty tasty as well. All in all, I'd give this place a 5 *. Not a good place for kids tho'. Parking is right behind the building. Staff is warm, friendly and knowledgeable. An entree is from $9-$15, their cocktails can be from $5-$8 (worth it - weird stuff like godiva chocolate with brandy mixed with coffee) and beers at roughly $3. Graydon's Crossing is another one of those Grand Rapids restaurants that gets a lot of lip service, so I was pretty pumped to find out we were going there for Easter brunch. I'm also a huge fan of "fusion" food, so the combining of different cultures of food is something I totally dig. British and Indian fusion is what's on the menu here... and I could only imagine what that would entail. But, I can't honestly tell you what the hell British food happens to be. We all know fish and chips is British, but that's about all know. Other than that, I think it's just like the food we eat here in America. Except, well, the toast they served here was really big. I think it was called something like Schnitz, which makes my inner child snicker with glee. I held it together though considering I was dining with my girlfriend's family. British food is, apparently, all about the atmosphere you eat it in. I remember eating once at a British restaurant in Canada (of which I'm sure there's a review I did if you search mine) and I think the restaurant was kind of similar looking. Dark, old-fashioned, worn down looking, old agey type stuff. Kind of like you've gone back in time. I kind of got that feeling while we were at Graydon's Crossing. Let's move on to the menu. The big book we got at first when we sat down was only beer. Impressive to some... boring to me. There's something like 10 pages full of their different offerings of liquid lunches. Great, grand, wonderful. Take your pretentious beer swilling attitude and stuff it somewhere uncomfortable. I'm not down with that. You might be though, so come try this place out if you're looking for choice beers to imbibe. The food menu was significantly shorter. Which is alright. A lot of stuff, breakfast especially, didn't seem that odd or fusion-y. I noticed they threw in the word "curry" with some selections and I guess that's where the Indian influence comes along. I picked out a nice little omelette for myself which was mostly a nice choice of vegetables and some baby Swiss cheese. Avocado slices on the top made it seem heaven-sent. It was good... but it was basically just an omelette with avocado. Prices were reasonable, so I'm not complaining at all. To drink, rather than beer, I got coffee. By reading other reviews I see they do something special... French press, I guess. Again, I have no idea what that means, 'cause I'm no coffee snob either. But, this stuff was FREAKING AWESOME. I don't remember what I paid for this cup of joe, but as long as it was less than $4, it was worth it. Refills kept coming and I kept slamming 'em down. Dessert options are great. My girlfriend and I split a slice of key lime pie and I was very pleasantly surprised with its goodness. It was the right color (not ninja turtle green), and had the perfect crust to filling ratio. Little spots of really super real whipped cream were on it too. Damn, I loved it. The graham cracker crust help up under pressure too, making each bite hold together nicely instead of crumbling making a huge mess to lick off the plate. Graydon's crossing is a great place to get a good, fair priced meal. i'd definitely return but it's not going to instantly pop in my head as anything significantly memorable (other than that coffee). My fourth time eating dinner at Graydon's Crossing was just as good as the previous three, despite there being nearly a four-year gap since I lived in the area and ate there last. While the menu has changed a bit, and seems to be somewhat less Indian-fusion influenced than I recall, the dinner I had tonight was simply spectacular, and I felt that it was probably worth more than the $14 I paid for it. Now, I am not a fan of pork loin. My mother used to serve very bland, very dry pork loin to our family when I was growing up (paired with equally bland and dry mashed Idaho potatoes), and I learned to strongly dislike that particular cut of our noble friend, the swine. However, I may venture back into eating pork chops here and there after having the Pork, Peaches and Polenta at Graydon's Crossing. My plate arrived with two large slices of pork loin covered in a currant/peach compote and crumbled goat cheese, resting atop a mound of creamy polenta and crowned with green beans. The pork was tender and soft enough to cut with a fork, and was also surprisingly juicy. The flavors of the pork, compote, goat cheese, green beans and polenta melded like magic into each other - so much so that a bite without all four almost tasted incomplete. Thankfully there was enough of each to go around. I can put away quite a bit of food, but I was just barely able to finish the entire plate. I left completely satisfied, and look forward to eating here again the next time I visit Michigan. read more

Graydon's is a staple for my husband and I bc it's usually not crowded, has parking, and we love the ambiance. It was pretty busy when we went there last night so we just ate at the bar which was fun. We ordered the onion rings as an appetizer (they are massive!!), I ordered the butter chicken dish, and my husband ordered the Thai salad. My husband gave his experience with the food and drink last night 5 stars but my butter chicken hardly had any sauce initially. The bartender was very attentive and before I could even say anything she offered to have the kitchen give me more sauce. The food just didn't feel as freshly made as it usually does so maybe that was just the experience yesterday. It just feels like maybe they are cutting corners a bit? We will definitely be back. I like that they generally change up the menu. Our favorite thing on they've ever served was their the burrito they used to make so I hope it makes a comeback!! read more

I'm not a local to GR, but my wife is, so when we visit her parents we're always sure to take advantage of the great local breweries and restaurants. While Graydon's Crossing isn't a brewery, they definitely have an extensive selection of local, domestic, and international brews. There's at least four full pages of draught beers, in addition to dozens of bottles. In-all, something in the neighborhood of 90+ beers. In addition to a wonderful selection of frosty brews, they also have an eclectic mix of traditional pub fare, Indian Colonial cuisine, and chef's creations that are a mix of both old and new. While this is not technically a farm-to-table restaurant, they pride themselves on using a multitude of locally sourced meat and produce. We started our meal with a caramelized onion tart, followed by the Carriage House Beef for my wife with lamb belly butternut mash and Yorkshire pudding, and for me, the Morrocan Lamb Burger with 5-spiced kettle chips. Both were delicious. If it weren't for the dirt on my wife's salad greens (yes, dirt...we were told it's OK because it's grown locally), I would have given Graydon's Crossing 4-stars. read more

I stopped by Graydon's Crossing twice while in town for business a few months back (I'm behind on posting, but lucky you, I took good notes!) Overall, interesting English pub menu and some definite standouts, although I'm not sure if they've rotated the menu since I've been there. The gave us some crispy Indian style crackers with mango chutney while we waited, which was satisfying, since my co-workers and I were starving! Overall the food is a bit on the heavy side and after apps, I had a hard time finishing my meal. Here's my breakdown of what I tried: - The somosas were solid. -The avocado goat cheese dip was awesome starter while we waited for our entrees. - The Sliders with blueberry ground into the beef patties were much better than they sounded (who would have thought it?). I think they were on the appetizer menu, but they would be awesome for a lighter dinner. - The oatmeal crusted fish was interesting take although a little heavier than I would have expected. - Tandoori chicken may not have been as good as the India version, but was pretty good. One of our favorite restaurants in town. And we bring out of town guests here too. This British-style pub has a massive beer list and experienced staff. But not short on wine and liquor as well. It's casual and relaxing. Dark wood and dim lit tables abound. During the summer, the patio is modern and equal parts shade and sun. The Bang-a-luscious Shrimp is amazing. A great tangy sauce with crunchy cabbage. The onion rings are huge; crispy and cooked to perfection. Their entrees shine with comfort food. You can't go wrong with any of the curry dishes, or comfort favorites like pasties or bangers and mash. Most dishes have locally sourced food, and there are multiple vegetarian options. The mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy is perfect. Creamy with a mild texture. Not too smooth, not too chunky. The rotating chef's specials are creative and surprising. You can get a burger and beer anywhere. We go to Graydon's for something special and different. The service is usually above average (and has even improved since summer of '14). The management has been attentive and generous. They do get busy on Friday and Saturday nights, but the food is always worth the wait. read more

I've never had a poor experience at Graydon's. While I would love to have something like a Sex on the Beach or a daiquiri, Graydon's is primarily a beer sort of place (lots and lots of beer). The food is always good and they have a seasonal menu which is so yummy in the fall and winter. It looks like most of these things have been covered in other reviews. But... 1.) Very attractive ambience. Lookse like an english pub. Very comfortable, and relaxing 2.) The menu wasn't extensive, but a very nice change of pace from standard bars. The english-indian cuisine mix provides some very different options that are interesting. I had a difficult time deciding what to order. 3.) The food was really good. I got the indian based burrito and chips and my wife got a chicken pastry thing and risotto. The risotto was a little bland, the pastry thing had frozen vegetables in it, but everything was delicious and unique. 4.) The wait staff was great. They take their beer seriously. I ordered off the weekly specials (a fish sandwich) but my husband ordered off the mainstay menu and his was also really good. No lack in flavor! Most underrated restaurant in Grand Rapids. I have a VERY hard time with the food scene here as it is NOT very good. I stumbled on this spot on Labor Day weekend, and not only was the food good they had great app and drink specials. We started with the asparagus and mushroom Diane app, and it was to die for. Simple ingredients but a perfect combo of sweet and savory. We also had the bang shrimp that was a little over dressed for my taste but great flavor. I would probably request light on the sauce next time around. Quesadilla was pretty basic, but my husband enjoyed. We were randomly bouncing around GR on Sunday and drove past this place. My fiancée said, "What's that place?! It looks cool..." so after driving past it, we checked Yelp, and then turned around and stopped in. We're glad we did. Originally, we were only planning on stopping for a drink, but one drink led to two, and that led to an appetizer. We kept checking out everyone's food as it came by and everything looked and smelled amazing. We weren't quite ready for a meal, but we didn't want to leave without sampling something. At the bartender's suggestion, we tried the jalapeno poppers. You never really know what you're going to get with jalapeno poppers, but these are not the breaded and fried pieces of garbage you normally get at bars/restaurants. There is no breading. They're not fried. And they're delicious. Highly recommend. The portion is modest, but it was exactly what we were looking for. We almost ordered a second round. They had a ton of beers on tap. I'd guess 40-50. There's something for everyone here. Next time I'm in town, I definitely want to eat a meal here. read more

This place is a low key gem -- one of my favorite places to take people who want something/somewhere different. Been here a handful of times and for different occasions: date, beer with a buddy, dinner with a group, etc. Cool vibe, awesome beer/wine selection, knowledgeable staff and a very unique menu have made the experience wonderful each time. *Also, very Veggie and Celiac friendly which is a huge plus for us. My first trip to Grand Rapid's and my boyfriend luckily steered me in the right direction food-wise. Indian fused with English food? Heck yes! At first I was interested in the pumpkin burrito but thought it would be too spicy, so I opted for a cup of THEE MOST AMAZING SOUP I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Get this, guys: Visser Family Farms' Acorn Squash Pureed with Cream, Brown Sugar, and Cinnamon. Spotted with Whiskey Maple Syrup and Topped with Amaretti Crumbs and Flax Seeds. THE BEST THING. EVER. I'm a big squash/pumpkin kind of gal, and I know my stuff when it comes to winter squash soups. This was the shizzle. The flavor was like nothing I've ever had in my life. I want to say there had to have been cream cheese in the base or something, because the flavors were so deep and rich. It was almost like dessert. A cup was enough, as regretful as I felt after taking my first bite that I should have ordered a bowl. It was one of the most comforting dishes I've ever had in my life. For my main entree, I opted for the spinach fettucini with peas, chicken and roasted asparagus. Wonderful, wonderful. I got two huge portions of succulent and perfectly cooked chicken breast, on top of a bed of fettucini with a luscious creamy alfredo sauce, and a few spears of perfectly charred asparagus stalks. My man ordered my first choice but since he's a good sport and shares generous servings, I went for this. He devoured the pork with the creamiest, best polenta ever, topped with goat cheese, poached peaches and currants, I believe. Oh, and with a side of green beans. Hello! What more could you want. Fairly priced, and an exquisite meld of flavors to satisfy your taste buds. We were too full for dessert, but it sure sounded tempting! Oh, and the elderberry beer on tap for the Tuesday night special for $2.50 was also delightful. Think of a St. Germain shandy (look it up if you're not familiar, they're incredible). We can't say enough good things about this place. Had gone once before the fire, but since re-opening, we have been there almost weekly. Great pub-style fare and always something interesting on tap. The monthly specials are quite innovative, and we enjoy simple sandwiches, but really would not even go there if not for the beer! Since my wife has discovered she likes Stouts and Porters (after 30+ years of marriage), we now get to go to places like this. When every place else is a zoo, this place seems quiet and friendly. There is always something good on tap, so we often go back just to have more of a new find before it's gone. This week's Goose Island Bourbon County Stout was nothing short of amazing (at 13% it is a "one and done"). Two week's ago was Short's "Mystery Stout", very much like Cup A Joe. We like HopCat, but menu is more limited (lots of great beers though) and Founders for their beer (limited menu and too many people lately), so this place fits perfect. If you are not a beer lover but are a fussy eater, this place many not be for you, but it certainly is for us. And since it seems like they know us now, papadams with mango salsa now usually show up at the table, and recently a plate of amazing bacon-wrapped stuffed dates appeared when there with friends (although this has nothing to do with our review!). read more

I recently went here for St. Patricks day and they had a special menu with awesome irish classics. My husband ordered the guinness stew and i regret not ordering it too because it was so good! Their Indian cuisine isn't what you would traditionally would get at an Indian restaurant, but it is definitely taste and has great alternatives for vegans and vegetarians. Graydon's is a must-stop every time I find myself back on the west side of the state. This location is slightly outside of immediate downtown area, conveniently close to I-196, and has its own parking lot. The ambiance is great, and the place has always been clean when I've stopped in. I usually always settle into one of the big booths on the main floor (the tables are not bolted down so you can move them to accomodate a well-satisifed tummy). There are only a couple tv's right above the bar, which is nice to keep an eye on any games, but doesnt interrupt the space. Love looking through the extensive local and international beer menu and selecting something new everytime. The staff is very helpful and attentive, last visit the S.O. commented that Ryan Gosling (a scruffy version, he admitted) was studying for a new role as our server- a little eye candy can't hurt the ratings ;). If you only come here for a drink, you are missing out. The food is great for the price. I would highly recommend the Mac and Cheese (rawesome with shrimp added) and Carriage House Beef (perfectly tender and lots of mashed potatoes). Love the complimentary kettle chips- you may not be into them if you don't like a little spice. read more

I've been to this resturant twice and have had great experiences both times. They have a lot of yummy British and Indian dishes and their beer/wine/cocktail menu is larger than their food menu :) I especially like that the food menu has suggested beer/wine pairings with their dishes. Most recently I had the Morrocan Lamb Burger. It blew me away. The burger was cooked just the way I wanted (medium well) and the fixings complimented the meat nicely. No need for additional condiments! My husband had the Bangladesh "Burrito", which he said was "alright", but nice and spicy! If you get a chance, try the Beer Battered Devils appetizer. They are beer battered devil eggs, need I say more? The beverage menu is phenomenal and most beers are on draft. Loved their coffee cocktail selections in the dessert menu too! Service is usually good. Some servers can be very helpful when picking dishes or drinks. Have never had a problem with waiting too long or getting refills. Atmosphere is great. Haven't been here in a while but in the past I have always enjoyed their friendly and knowledgable staff as well as a great beer selection. Upon ordering we were excited for a nice meal as our server seemed very kind and pleasant but once we received our meals we were somewhat disappointed. I ordered the Cuban Sandwich and my guest ordered the veggie burger. The Cuban was EXTREMELY bland and the bacon was flavorless. Not too mention the pickled onions lacked in acidity. As for the veggie burger, it was decent. Overall it lacked seasoning - I was trying to find the chipotle in the "chipotle veganaise". Seemed like normal veganaise. All in all, probably won't be back anytime soon. Which is unfortunate because this restaurant is in the neighborhood and I'd love to support it. But I just can't muster paying $44 for a meal and leaving unsatisfied. read more

Service is still exemplary, but food issues the past few times we've been there leaves me wanting a little more. Tonight we went over to try out their "Meatless Monday's". I follow their FB page and have seen them promote it every Monday. Well turns out the actual meatless Monday offerings are kinda few and then at 6pm they were out of the Mushroom Vindaloo. Bummer. Ended up getting the Indian fish Tacos (why is this on the on the Meatless Mondays and grilled cheese isn't?) The fish was really over cooked. The flavor of the guac was good but the fish was way too dry and crunchified good thing it was 50% off. read more

Ahhh the staff was very genuine & friendly. It was my first time there & they gave some samples on the house. The chef hand delivered shrimp wrapped bacon to our table! Everything was good...:) bone marrow was kinda a disappointment tho...it was in soup form, what I'm not use too.. read more

One of the best beer selections in the city (Hopcat). I have never tried the food but it looks really good! On Mondays the place is usually slow but all their Michigan beers are half off. Great place to go for a few pints on Monday. Last 3 times I was there, the music was terrible. Maybe they have changed it since because they responded to my facebook post about it and seemed interested in finding some alternative selection. The next time I go back, if the music is better, I will add the 5th star to my rating! read more

British - Indian fusion twist on the typical pub fare with a great selection of beers and friendly staff. We stopped by on Memorial Day which is why I'm guessing the service was a little slower than the average pub. The portions are HUGE! Between the 4 of us we ordered the samosas, butter chicken, two burritos, fish tacos and the cypress sandwich. They have a decent selection of healthyish/meatless dishes, which was especially great since it happened to be meatless Monday with half off on the said dishes. Almost all our food was great, especially the samosas and the butter chicken which came with the softest little triangles of naan. The fish tacos were a bit of a disappointment because they were dry and needed more of the delicious mango habanero salsa. As Indians, it was really cool to see everyday dishes from our cuisine in a bar food format. I didn't have any alcohol but all 3 of my friends were absolutely stoked with their choices - wheat ales and a stout. Be prepared to share plates or leave with takeout boxes like we did! read more
