This is a cool English style pub, a little off the beaten path from the city center. There's a decent amount of parking around the building, but take note if the lots are full then it's about a 30min wait for a table. We got there around 7:30 and had a bier at the bar, while we waited. Now down to what matters: a good selection of popular local biers and some unique one-offs. The food is good overall...we started with the Pork Belly fries as an app (incredible, but note that they are not pork-seasoned French fries, as I had thought, but rather pork belly "sticks".) I had the Drunken Dip as a main...not bad, but you will be more overwhelmed by the hearty baguette than the flavor of the meat. And finally: the staff...very friendly and welcoming. I love Grayson's! It is the closest bar to my house, so I obviously end up here often! Aside from that, they always have a pretty impressive tap list, and if you're really experienced there's always something to be found in the beer tome! The food here is mostly great! I come for meatless Monday's a lot. The soups and salads are delicious! The veggie burger is good, but I would only get it on Mondays as its not huge or spectacular. The mushroom vindaloo on the other hand is out of this world!!! The Indian fish tacos are just okay, but the fries and garlic aioli are bangin! I love it that they usually give you a little sample of their chutney. That makes me happy! My only complaints are that the fish in the fish and chips doesn't taste as fresh as other fish I've had around town - however it's such a mountain of food if you're hungry it's totally worth it! And sometimes the service can be lacking. That being said, sometimes the service is beyond excellent! And they totally let me work here uninterrupted for hours! Their wifi works great and I've even come to paint here with a friend and they were very supportive! I love the dim ambiance and the true British pub feel. I surprisingly REALLY liked this place. I thought it would be over priced and pretentious from was I've read and heard about the place, but my experience was quite on the contrary. I arrived with a party of about 8 without making reservations (it was a cold winter day mind you) and the SERVICE was excellent and friendly. FOOD was delicious and very filling, I could share a dish with my bloke and even my big burly guy friends were unable to finish their meals...they probably had too much beer in their bellies ha PRICES were average and reasonable especially if you can share, the group shared pitchers of beer. I prefer wine and am usually skeptical about ordering wine from a 'pub', but they had great choices and my Pinot "Grig" was very good indeed. I like the LOCATION of Graydon's also, it's off the beaten path and you shouldn't have a problem finding parking like in downtown, they have a free private lot and there is ample street parking in the neighborhood. I left my expensive cardigan there (shocker) and once I realized and called them, they had already set it aside for me to pick up...I was sure it would be a gonner phew! It was my first trip to Michigan and I came to visit a couple of breweries. This spot caught my eye on the internet as I was searching for an English Pub. It was an English pub with a twist...half the menu had an Indian twist. I love Indian food and I love English pubs...so it was a no-brainer. Came in and ordered the Bangladesh Burrito. It was awesome. It was filled with ground lamb and potatoes. If you know me, then you know I'm all about the lamb. They asked me how spicy I wanted it on a scale of 1 to 10. I think I went with a 6 or 7. It had a good amount of heat without it being too hot to the point where you couldn't taste anything. I would definitely order it again. For Dessert, Dragon's Milk Bread Pudding! Yes, Dragon's Milk...the delicious craft beer from New Holland brewing. Dragon's Milk is an American Stout beer aged in oak barrels. Hands down one of the best bread puddings I ever had. Look at the picture I uploaded. Just look at it and then get in your car and drive over there and eat it. Oh yeah I forgot to mention...it's a pub! There's TONS of CRAFT BEER. Delerium Tremens...ON TAP. They even have cask ale! Yes!!! The beer selection was more than adequate. This wasn't a place I'd noticed ahead of a recent trip to "GR", but I'm glad our friend who planned our stops recommended it. Went for lunch on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon for lunch and a couple drinks. The food was very creative-an interesting mixture of Irish/English pub with Indian as well as American craft brewery fare. The poppers, which were pepperoncini's stuffed with goat cheese with a side of marina were really good, and there was one left on the plate once the meals came, so that was a bonus for me! Friends got a side of onion rings, which if you look at photos, appear more like donuts in a large bowl, but they're all onion and fried goodness. I had a really good Bali Pulled Pork sandwich, which was exactly as advertised-juicy yet not fatty pork with just enough sauce that wasn't too sweet, but packed a little heat, or was that from the dry rubbed kettle chips?! Fish and chips order my friend had was maybe the biggest serving of this dish I've ever seen. Served in a salad bowl basically, there were 3 huge fish filets (I had one and enjoyed it) on top of about 2 lbs. of fresh cut fries. Those who ordered burgers enjoyed them (Drunk Cow in particular). They had a lot of draft and bottled beer options and the menu was really good-very informative while categorizing what was what and they had a lot of specials. Let's start off with the food. Absolutely delicious. We had the jalapeño poppers that were wrapped in bacon, and the shrimp laid on a bed of slaw made with curry (I forgot the name). They both were amazing. For our entrée we had the mushroom vinadoo? And my mom had the mac-n-cheese. Both were also very good. Our server was attentive. The reason for 4 stars, I saw a family waiting to be seated with a young boy playing with a tray stand, and the hostess just took it and hung it up on the side of the hostess stand with the rest of the tray stands. She had an annoyed look on her face and without looking she closed it and put it away. Now if my child was playing with something, and the worker just closed the tray stand and caught his/her fingers in it, I would be pissed. I understand that this is a pub, but when children are around, as a worker you have to have at least some patience. They are just children anyways. You accommodate to your guests. Will I be back? This is one of my stand-by spots for when I can't decide to on a place for both good food and drinks. They always have an impressive selection of beer on tap and one of the best vegetarian dish selections in town and they are constantly changing things up on their menu. But lately it has been super inconsistent and needs to get its act together. One of my favorite restaurants in Grand Rapids! Not only do the have a great beer selection, the menu is eclectic and they have a great variety and some daily specials. My favorite dish is the Bijapur lasagna, which isn't offered on the permanent menu any longer, but I've found enough other items to try. The curry chili bacon poppers, Indian nachos, vindaloo burrito, drunken beef, the onion rings are on my favorite list. The weekend brunch is very good, especially with their homemade bloody mary with a sidecar for $4. read more

Another place that thinks it's cool to have it really dark inside. They put a small lamp at each table that doesn't help much. However that being said it is a nicely designed space. I ordered their hamburger with an indian bbq sauce on it. The burger was good, but nothing special. The bbq sauce was fun but again not outstanding. The waiter was super friendly and helpful. Fool me once... I really do enjoy Graydon's, I have for years, but I've only just started to attend some of their brunches. The service and drinks were great, but the kitchen staff can't poach an egg to save their life. The first time was for the eggs Benedict, the eggs were completely cooked through. I let is slide, though, because it was swamped. More recently though, I decided to give them another try. I paid ~extra~ for two poached eggs with my avocado toast. Fool me twice... I could tell the moment my fork touched the first egg is was cooked through again. Very disappointed, I love a poached egg. I don't think it will stop me from coming back, but I'll probably avoid anything not scrambled. read more

While I DO like Founders, Short's, Bell's & places that feature their own micro brews, what we especially liked about Graydon's Crossing was the assortment of not only Michigan beers, but some pretty cool beers from around the country and even a few from across the pond. You can order pre-ordained flights of 3, 5 or 10 beers, or make your own. I especially enjoyed the ones I tried from Big Sky Brewery in Montana and Rogue in Oregon. Food ranged from fabulous to just good, but nothing we had was remotely poor. The cream of potato soup with cloves and MUCHO garlic is a must try! Atmosphere was terrific, and our server, Alex, who despite being rather new here, did an outstanding job of explaining their many pages of beers, making suggestions and checking back often to see how we were doing. "Gluten friendly" "Vegetarian" and "British pub" do not usually go together, but Graydon's Crossing is a special exception. A few serving missteps were somewhat annoying during our recent lunchtime visit, but several staff stopped by to apologize and in the end I was happy with my experience. The short menu has a few items you would expect to find on a British pub menu, like Shepherd's pie and fish and chips, but most of the items have a definite Indian influence, and many are available in gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan versions. Much of the food is locally sourced and antibiotic free, too! My fellow gluten free diners will understand why, despite a lot of yummy Indian options, my eye was immediately drawn to the "Caprese grilled cheese" sandwich that had the magical abbreviation "GF" next to it. When I asked, the waitress said that yes, indeed, they have gluten-free bread and she would be happy to make me a grilled cheese sandwich. Accompanied by a cup of the butter quinoa soup, it sounded like gluten-free heaven. Of course, it was too good to be true. In short order, the waitress was back at our table, apologizing that they were out of the GF bread. I tried not to be too disappointed, after all, there were many other good options, but I really hate it when a place gets my hopes up and then dashes them. Instead, I ordered the Maitake Mushroom Vindaloo. The Vindaloo was excellent. My bowl was full of a hearty lentil, potato and carrot stew that was nicely spiced with enough curry to send me back to my water glass frequently. A Maitake mushroom that topped the dish added nice texture if not a lot of flavor. Weirdly, after I had to switch my order to the vindaloo, the waitress did not warn me that the quinoa soup would be similar. I ended up with too much food, both of my items really thick, stewlike dishes and I couldn't eat more than a couple of spoons of the soup. It was delicious, and I would definitely order it again, but better guidance from the wait staff would have been appreciated. Another glitch was that my vindaloo was served before my soup, and before the entrees of my two dining companions. The staff apologized for this mixup in the kitchen, softening the blow somewhat, but it was still pretty annoying. On the positive side, the pub has three different gluten-free ciders, two of which are made in Michigan. They also have four different GF beers. On Mondays, all meatless dishes are $2 off! A friend who eats here often says the menu changes regularly, but is always good. My brother and I stopped in here just after I flew in from Florida. Holy cow is this place good! My brother got the Drunken Cow Burger which is the most popular item on the menu for a very good reason. I ordered one of the Specials for the Month - The Spicy Turkey Burger. I was a little hesitant at first because of the Horseradish Orange Marmalade, but all of the flavored blended together very well. From the front door you feel like you're in a pub. Great fusion of English and Indian decor....very tasteful. The bar has great lighting and the atmosphere in it self is very relaxing, the lighting is a nice mix between natural light and low light. The food, I ordered the jalapeño poppers and a small Caesar salad. I had neve had curry and found I don't care for the flavor which is in the cream cheese of the poppers... that is at no fault to the cooks who prepared the peppers perfectly... crunchy and yet still soft enough. This place is a case study in "How to correct a mistake". I ordered the burrito with grilled chicken and as soon as it came to the table, our server Jacqueline realized that she didn't tell them to add the grilled chicken. She ran (literally) up the stairs to put my corrected order in. She came back down with a basket of homemade chips with dipping sauce as I waited. When it did come out, she apologized and said it was in the house. Not only that, but then the manager then stopped at our table with a coupon titled "Missed Opportunity" that gives us $15 off our next visit. And this was all because of a mistake I did NOT complain about, but rather the server noticed the error first. I applaud Jacqueline and the manager for handling this, without complaint. I've never been more impressed with how a restaurant made up for an error. Bravo! That story aside, the food was really good! A creative menu with unique flavors. Lived a few miles from here for 12 years. Worked a couple miles from here for 23 years. Had a friend that was a cook here for a few years and yet I have never been here until today. Had a coupon for a free brunch. Why did I wait so long. My wife and I both decided on the Grayson's special. 3 eggs, beer bacon, sausage, potatoes, toast, and a fruit cup. Now your thinking, how could a place like this be rated on a simple breakfast? Easy, if they can't do a simple breakfast right, probably can't do other meals correctly. Start with the eggs. Mine were over easy and they were done to perfection. Not slimy near the yolk and still had a liquid yolk. Wife's were scrambled and they were nice and fluffy. Beer bacon was awesome. Sausage was a tad dry but the seasoning was great. Just a touch of heat that arrived after you ate it. The potatoes were done just right. Uneven cut cubes that I'm guessing were deep fried. Golden brown on all sides and tender on the inside. The homemade bread was thicker than your average slice of toast. Very nice. The fruit cup had chunks of melon, pineapple, and cantaloupe. What can I say? The simple breakfast was done right. I expect they can manage lunch and dinner just the same. Need to try a burger next. Until next time. Visit a local pub. What an amazing experience! First, the atmosphere. Walking in, you might feel like you stepped into a small pub, where friends can talk and enjoy each others company. The darker interior allows for an quiet feel, even when both floors are full. There was practically no difficulty in hearing the friend seated with me, and only the soft hum of the other patrons and staff in the background. The menus are simple, elegant, and classy. Such streamlined menus tends to not offer many options for me as a vegetarian. However, this was not the case at Graydon's Crossing. Their menus explicitly state what they can make vegetarian, gluten free, low sodium, etc. Our waitress (I won't mention her name for privacy, but suffice it to say it started with an S, and she was amazing) was very knowledgeable in the different drinks available and what she suggested. For example, I enjoy a nice 16 year old Lagavulin, and the way she described one of the reserve beers almost changed my mind. Even kids will find something to eat with options like macaroni and cheese and grilled cheese, among other options like sandwiches. And they offer some classic sodas and fountain sodas in addition to their beers, wines, liquors, cocktails, and water. Simply put, if you cannot find something to eat and drink here, you will never find a restaurant to eat at. Then came the food. Again, as a vegetarian, I was skeptical about what I would think. Finding something new is hard enough, let alone something that tastes good. That's where the Indian influence puts this place over the top. I was skeptical of a pub with an Indian influence, since normally there's some sort of Gaelic influence. We received an appetizer that was some sort of crisp and sauce (some sort of sweet pickle mixture). It was an interesting dish, nice and light with a refreshing effect. For my meal, I went with the Tandoori Wrap with tempeh. Normally it comes with kettle chips, but our waitress suggested either fries or asparagus. She must have thought about the tempeh and made the connection to loving vegetables, and the choice of asparagus was a choice well made. They were cooked to perfection with minimum (if any) oils. Being raised in the Southern Midwest, I'm used to meals being served with butter and heart stents. The asparagus was just firm enough, and tasted amazing without being drowned in butter. The wrap was delicious and full of flavor. The tempeh mixed in the wrap like it belonged all the time. The rice, which I was expecting to be mushy and over cooked still had an al dente texture to it, the sign of rice cooked right and fresh. For my drink, I did go with my favorite Lagavulin, and I was not disappointed. Served neat, I received a beautiful glass of that smokey gold that does both the Isle of Islay and Graydon's Crossing justice. Truly an award winning combination. And before I got too far into my meal, another staff member came up and asked me if I wanted some Sriracha for the wrap. This man must be a chief of some sort, because the flavors from the peanuts, hummus, cilantro and rice were enhanced by the spices from the Sriracha. In all, the meal was perfectly balanced thanks to the inherent menu paring and a bright and knowledgeable staff. (Note: My friends meal (pulled pork and a draft root beer) were described as "it was really good!" With wide eyes in amazement) There was only one blip, and that was when none checked my ID for my debit card. However, I've only had one person in six years ask for it, so it was not enough to knock them down to 4-stars. In my less than humble opinion, this was easily one of the top 3 meals/experiences I've had in my life, and Graydon's Crossing has earned the title Gastropub. When I'm in the area, I'll find it hard to go anywhere else. -Personal note: The night of our visit, the gastropub had a Trans flag flying on the front of the building. I was so touched and impressed with the stance of tolerance, acceptance, and love displayed. Truly an amazing business. The sign outside directed us to seat ourselves, without a host/hostess we found a table in upstairs dining room, where the server clearly wasn't ready for us. The appetizer was the best bite: na'an chips and chutney. However they came sans utensils about 90 seconds before our entrees. Seriously, how hard is it to plate some chips and salsa? I didn't have time to enjoy the cold appetizer when my hot meal came. Both our meals were under seasoned: which is surprising for a place fashioned around Indian cuisine. New ownership is the best thing to happen to this place in YEARS! While they are still smoothing out the bumps, the service is much more friendly, knowledgeable, and pleasant to be around. After asking a few of the employees, seems the new ownership & management is now really great to work with and they like working there. Still working out the menu, but the effort is there and we can't wait to try it once it all comes together. Lots of drink options...tons of beer and the drinks are well made. On our way back home form West MI, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by in Grand Rapids for a good dinner. We whipped out our handy dandy iPhone's and started searching on Yelp. With only 5 reviews (compared to Yesterdog's 47), Graydon's Crossing caught my eye. It was interesting to learn that this place had traditional British food.... AND INDIAN FOOD? Definitely an eclectic mix we thought, so we went for it! This small pub/restaurant was dimly lit and the decorations made me feel like I was in the Three Broomsticks (for all you Harry Potter fans out there!) and not to mention the emblem reminds me of Gryffindor's! Anyways, needless to say it all felt very familiar and cozy. The menu was definitely an interesting read and it was really hard to pick what we wanted for our entrees so we decided to nibble on an appetizer while we gave our noggin some time to connect with our taste buds and hunger pangs.The City Combo ($8) with 1/2 Avacado and Herbed Goat Cheese spread and a cup of Mulligatawny Stew was a perfect palette teaser. The stew has an Indian twist to it (if you like spicy food, ask them to give you their indian hot sauce called Sample..... something, can't remember the second word), it was delicious!! And I love goat cheese, so yea I lapped that up too! And then it was time for the palette pleasers! Finally came to the deicision of getting the Carriage House Beef, and the Mr. got the Yorktown Stuffed Chicken. I steered clear of the Indian dishes, mainly because I'm not a huge fan of Indian Fusion Cuisine ( i like it traditional). I was also a little skeptical of ordering British food... I mean what do they eat anyways, what can they really do with a hunk of meat and some potatoes? OHHHH my, but what they DID DO with that meat and potatoes... made my tongue dance with my teeth! The roast beef was soooo tender, you didn't even need a knife, it was just falling away with the nudge of your fork, and with that amazing wild mushroom gravy on top, just mouthwatering! And their "From Scratch" mashed potatoes were a perfect pairing. First time trying a Yorkshire pudding (which is like a savory muffin), i'm not a fan but I still appreciate it for what it was. The stuffed chicken was good too (for being breast meat, it was pretty tender and juicy) and the crust was really tasty, also topped with a yummy gravy of its own! My bf and I were adoring each other's plates so much, we ate half our own and then traded!! It's too good to keep it all to yourself - you'll want to share too! This place is truly a hidden gem for all you GR Yelpers out there! I really recommend you try this place out, for the same prices as Olive Garden, you can get a real quality meal that sticks to your ribs (not b/c it's greasy, but b/c it's just that comforting!) read more

We don't get out without the kids very often, and Graydon's has been our go-to date night place for years. Every time, we get the Indian Nachos, the signature menu item that my wife LOVES. Just now, we came in and sat down, and scanned through the menu...NO NACHOS. We asked the server, who said they changed the menu three days ago and cut the nachos. My wife literally cried. The beer list is still extensive, and the ambiance is great. But the nacho-shaped hole in our hearts has ruined Graydon's for us. read more
