A good place for a small breakfast and morning drink. I'd already hit my coffee quota for the day by the time I made it here, so no input on that, but the chai was pretty good - very sweet with nice foamy milk. I had a quiche involving gouda that was downright inspired. In addition, I appreciated the seating options and spaciousness. Only complaint: bizarrely late opening time for a coffee shop! read more

Oh man, Gray Owl has such a special place in my heart! I spent a lot of time studying here as an undergrad & still continue to visit every now & then. The coffee is incredible! You seriously cannot go wrong with any beverage you choose. The loose-leaf tea selection is quite expansive & the latte options are to die for! My ultimate favorite drink to get here is a soy vanilla latte. Sounds boring right? WRONG! I don't know if it's the type of vanilla syrup they use, or the espresso shots they pull- but it really is heaven in your mouth. Get it hot in the winter & iced in the summer- you won't be disappointed! Aside from their 10/10 drinks, they also make all of their pastry-case items in house. I love this because it really gives it that nice touch of "feeling at home" & knowing you can trust the ingredients they use. There are also a good amount of gluten-free options to choose from as well. Pro-tip: they also do catering orders for any of their pastries if you're looking for something delicious & organic! The "vibe" here is really chill & pretty hipster. I love it though. The chairs/tables are all mismatched & there's local artists' artwork hanging on the walls. It can get a little busy here especially during finals week each semester, so finding a table can be hard. Never be afraid to ask to share a table if you see someone sitting alone- this is a common thing! P.S. Bring cash if you plan on buying anything under $3 (that's the minimum for using cards) Also, tip your barista! :) read more

The coffee tastes like stale piss and is overpriced alongside the pastries. It has the potential to be something, but as of right now it isn't good. read more

I first tried this place three years ago, and today I remembered why I haven't been back ('til now). The staff is snooty and although it wasn't busy, it took way too long to get a plain latte. They get a few stars for eclectic decor and a decent latte, but there are much better choices in Norman. read more

Good coffee here, and give their scones a try while you're here. Just far enough away from the bustling campus, you can come here to relax a bit. Lots of places to sit around and get work done. Obviously there are owls everywhere in here but their decorations are pretty cool, mostly rustic and antique stuff. read more

Decent enough for late night coffee, but not my favorite at all. Poor service, mostly because it take anywhere from 5-20 minutes to get your order. Honestly, I think several of the people that work there are either stoned, or just don't give a shit about you or your order. Coffee? To be fair, I am a coffee snob, so I tend to be very lenient when judging one cuppa to another, but this was ridiculous. I have had yirgacheffe brews before, but when I got a cup at Gray Owl, it was cool (temp), had a large amount of grounds in my cup, and tasted as if it had been burned and then was left to sit out. Not fresh at all. So, I tried an americano on my second trip, and my americano was burned, tasted too bitter, and lacked crema. Food? No complaints, truly. I have had several things from their case and they have all be good and fresh. The actual space is lovely. There is plenty of tables and chairs to accommodate the students that are there to study. There is also a large community couch in the back next to a well-stocked bookshelf. The music is good. There is a small table outside with a few chairs. Lots of artwork on the inside. Very nice. If the staff put more care into what they were doing, I think this would be a great place to grab coffee and study. However - and this is true for several places in Norman that have high school and early college students working there - the kids do not care about their jobs or the customers. As a person who has worked in many aspects of customer service, I was embarrassed that these people were a reflection of the business. read more

Gray Owl has always been a favorite. On the inside, the building has been stripped down to the concrete with original local artwork displayed (and for sale). The thrift furniture is all mismatched but works together, along with the plethora of magazines, books and board games at your disposal. Their coffee is Intelligentsia, which truly works with and gives back to the communities they get their beans from. Gray Owl even has eco-friendly containers, tops, sleeves & stirrers, so you can enjoy guilt-free. The employees are always pretty friendly and are willing to make you a sample and let you smell the teas before you commit to a whole drink. My favorite thing to get there is a soy vanilla latte. Their syrup is flavorful & not overly sweet. All of the baked goods are made there and are oh-so-delicious. The quiche makes me feel like I am back in Paris. They also carry sandwiches from Forward Foods, another splendid and delicious option in Norman and OKC. Great if you want to chat, study or read. The prices have gone up since they opened, but still reasonable. Be aware that their drinks are made the classic way and not like Starbucks. Which is a good thing. Free water. Yay! If you bring them a mix tape you can get a free regular coffee. They are open late weekdays and weekends. If you are staying awhile, park in the lot across the street, otherwise you can park right out front usually. A must in Norman for the atmosphere, quality drinks and baked goods! read more

Gray Owl Coffee - Vanilla latte & bagel. Yum. - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Norman, Oklahoma

I love the atmosphere of this coffee shop. The lighting is soft and dim, perfect for studying! Also perfect for neurodivergent minds who experience light sensitivity. The drinks are so yummy! The employees are very friendly and kind. read more

I'm really sad this morning, I'm writing this review from work, my husband normally makes me a cortado, but he had to leave earlier then usual so no coffee for me. I'm currently contemplating a visit to my second favorite coffee shop (the first being my home) the Gray Owl at lunch. I can grab some lunch, pastry, cortado and relax in a comfortable enviroment, if I lived in Norman I would be here like every other day at least. As far as coffee shops go though bascially they have everything I'm looking for except location, which would be dumb to count against them. (so I'm not) Basically everyting: Couch, board games, wi-fi, a cup of cold press, a good cortado - just like home, but with studious people and my grandmother's shortbread raspberry bars (I don't know how they got the recipe, but I'm glad she shared it with them!) read more

Cute little coffee shop in Norman and a good place to hang out with friends (they have boardgames) or study. I got the vanilla latte based on recommendations on FourSquare. It was good and creamy with cute latte art! read more

This quaint, hipster little coffee shop tucked away on Gray street is a nie little aversion to the busyness of life. The decor is nice, lots of local artwork for sale. Plenty of cozy couches to snuggle up on while sipping warm drinks, Their chai is delicious, but my favorite is a pot of peppermint tea. Hands down the best tea I've ever had, Their lattes are good as well, and the baristas are awesome about customizing drinks. Decent prices, delicious drinks and delectable service make this place a must go for coffee and tea drinkers alike. read more

Meh, I've had better. It took 15 minutes for the guy to make my mocha. I'm sorry but that is just too long, especially when there wasn't anybody else waiting for an espresso beverage. Then when I got the mocha, it was not very good. Way to milky, lacked chocolate flavor, and the espresso was BITTER! Nothing worse then a bitter espresso shot. The shop is pretty cool. Vintage bikes having from the ceiling. The seating is random, and there were a lot of college students. I think if they become a little quicker and put a little more care into their espresso timing this place could be a regular stop for me. Until then, my hunt for the perfect espresso in OK continues. ps i did fancy the espresso art on my coffee. read more

I walked in here expecting a major hipster hang out (I am not a hipster) and liberals everywhere (I'm conservative Christian) but I really wanted good coffee. The employees were nice to me right off the bat. One of the first things I noticed was the poetry framed around the store. I assume these are local poets which is really cool they support the poetic society in Norman. Mostly people were on their laptops which I expected. On the coffee/tea menu there was a sign that said "we welcome all races, all religions, all countries of origin, all sexual orientation, all genders, all abilities. We stand with you. You are safe here." While I do not agree with or condone LGBT+ lifestyles, I believe they have a right to do what they want in this country (my view is complicated, I vote against it but if my vote is out ruled that is the law). The fact that they mentioned religion (although I am skeptical how far they go when it comes to Christianity) is good. Some of my favorite customers at the place I work are Muslim. I'm not super mean to those holding a different worldview than me, I explain my worldview and leave it at that unless they ask for more. Highly recommend this place. It's quiet, which is good for the little girls learning to read behind me. People and atmosphere are nice and welcoming. 5/5 stars!!!! read more

Gray Owl Coffee - Empty mug - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Norman, Oklahoma

Best coffee house in Norman. They take their coffee seriously in a laid back atmosphere of cobbled-together furnishings and "have a seat, we'll bring it to you" mentality. In a hurry? Want a sterile environment? Just need caffiene? There's a Starbucks down the road. Otherwise, do yourself some good, slow down (for once), and enjoy the most delicious coffee in Norman. And don't forget to check out the local art on the walls. read more

Love this coffee shop! Not only does it have a cool vibe with lots of tables and plugs (when we're all able to sit indoors) but they have great curbside service too! The baristas are always great, and the vanilla latte is fantastic (hot or iced). read more

The mocha's here are soooooooo good here. Man are they good (referring again to the mocha's). You know what else is good? Prolly everything! But I know for sure that the scones are good and the peanut butter glazed brownies are ellsxcelellntslllpp! (That's how you say "excellent" when you're drooling). This place is hip too. They pipe in good music and the furniture is eclectic. Bring your mom. I do. read more

F*ing awesome place to study - some converted warehouse with couches and long tables w/lamps, sexy barista, games, good minimalistic drink and baked goods options (no real food), you can get pots of loose-leaf teas. SO happyhappy rocking. Don't come here because I want it all to my self. :) No, not really. you should go. YAY. Good free parking in front and across the street in the lot. Pretty safe at night and stays open late. Yeeeeeeeeeeee. read more

Still my favorite coffee joint after graduating. I love the atmosphere of this place and the eclectic mix of furniture. The pastries are good and so is their coffee. I would definitely come back again! The amount of items on their menu is minimal, kind of like the atmosphere they are going for, but the blueberry scone was delish! read more

I feel like it's kind of hit-and-miss with Gray Owl. Sometimes, it's great. They've got good tea, drool-worthy pastries, and plenty of games to play with friends. Sometimes, it's not so great. They have live bands which draw obnoxious, loud crowds. That would be fine and dandy if the building could handle it, but the building is just NOT set up to hold a band and fans. It's not big enough, and the acoustics make it an unpleasant, will want to make you want to bash your head into the tables experience. Speaking of tables, good luck finding one when you're there. I've gone into Gray Owl several times, felt guilty for wanting to walk right back out, begrudgingly ordered a drink, then promptly left and gone elsewhere. There's not many plugs, and the tables and chairs that are there are rickety. Tons of people love this place, but it's just not a comfortable option for me when it comes to grabbing a cup of tea and working. read more

I really want to like this place, but my first experience wasn't the greatest. To start with, there was only one person working and about four people waiting in line. I waited at least five minutes just to place my order. The lady was very nice but it was too much for her to have to take orders and make all the drinks. While I waited for my coffee I used the restroom. When I walked in I immediately smelled urine and saw grime on the floor. I sat on the sofa to wait for my coffee that's when I noticed all the dust underneath everything in the place. Not just a little, a ton of dust! I nearly ordered a muffin and was really glad I chose not to after seeing the condition of the restroom and dining area. The coffee was fine. But not good enough to overcome all of the other issues. I will keep searching for a good coffee in Norman. read more

I should probably admit it's not my favorite, but Gray Owl is open a little later than Michelangelo's which is good for after work. Honestly it's just not my ideal atmosphere? Like it's really cool and stylish, but that's not my scene I suppose On a pleasant upside, they seem to do latte art, like little hearts and leaves, which is pretty cute. However a cute little heart in the foam on my burnt irish cream cappuccino doesn't really make my heart sing, if anything it produces a sigh of resignation fun anecdote though: I came there to study once and was surprised to find myself amidst the screening of some art student's short films, which uh it was an experience to say the least. Now I'm totally on board for supporting artists even if I was intending to get work done but I'm only human and by extension am not immune to giggling all throughout a 5 minute video of a man eating a sonic hotdog I'm sorry read more

I love gray owl so much. Beautiful people beautiful art beautiful music and delicious coffee! I've been going to gray owl since 2009 (I think, maybe 10) long time fan. It will always have a place in my heart. read more

I love Grey Owl, and it's the perfect place to chat. Comfy and inviting couches with vintage tables & chairs create a warm and cozy atmosphere. They have a great selection of teas, and they are more than willing to give you refills of hotwater with a teapot. I love their baked goods, and their blackberry scones are delicious. I enjoy their espresso, but I'm not a fan of their drip coffee. My major problem lies with the customers- typically college students- that come in with laptop and homework to take up a 4-top table by themselves. I am one of those people that carts their laptop in and uses Gray Owl as an office - but I only do so when it is more than half-empty. Coming in during a rush to work on things stresses me and the workers out I'm sure. They have free wi-fi and lots of board games and card games. It's a great place to have a group discussion or just chat with a few friends over tea and coffee. read more

I once went to this place a while back. It's probably been a year or so ago now. The place smelled amazing because some pastry had just come out of the oven. I asked to get one of the pastry that smelled so delicious. The person behind the counter then went to grab an older one from inside the counter. I asked if I could instead get one of the hot ones that just came out. He said no, and that he could only give me one of the ones that had been sitting in the display case. I was kind of in disbelief. I cancelled the order of the pastry and just got coffee instead. Then I hung out near the counter, waiting on my cup of hot black coffee. I was about 4 feet away from that same worker who refused to sell me a fresh pastry, and watched him hand several people their coffee orders. So I approached him about my drink, and he then pointed to the counter where it had been sitting for a while. So, instead of making the tiniest bit of effort to indicate to me that my drink was ready, he had decided to let it sit a few feet away from me and let me sit there waiting on it. I obviously never went back to this place. Friends of mine have told me similar stories about how the staff seems to have a bad attitude. The coffee was just okay, but I don't believe this place deserves to stay in business with such abysmal customer service. read more

Most everyone in there was studying or working quietly on something, the atmosphere was really chill and perfect for getting stuff done! The pot of tea is $2.50 and they have a great range of herbal and caffeinated options! Love this place. Reliably good coffee and wifi--it's my not-at-home office--and all of the baristas are fabulous, Roshni especially gives it a cool vibe. Gray Owl is one of the best study spots on campus. Very warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff are always nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the coffee here is only average. Their baked goods are also fantastic. read more

I've been a loyal Gray Owl fanatic for 2 years! I'd confidently say this is where you'll get the best coffee / espresso / tea in Norman. They brew Topeaca coffee, roasted in Tulsa. They have an especially impressive collection of teas. I LOVE a plain iced tea from gray owl on a warm day. Now you have to promise me something - you MUST order a pastry item. It's taken me until recently to realize how serious their pastry game is. One of my favorite things is to sit at the bar and watch the bakers make the treats they sell. I'm usually weirded out by pasty items that aren't a plain chocolate chip cookie, but I've learned that you have to trust the Owl. They know what they're doing! Some of my favorites: fig date bar, toffee bar, granola and yogurt. And I definitely haven't tried everything, so go for it! I'd say their pastry selection is what puts gray owl into the 5 star category. The atmosphere is of course wonderful, cozy and homey. Be aware that this is a college town and evenings can often be packed with students studying. I like to go in the mornings and afternoons. And one last thing, if you're going to study or work (as I usually am), use your coffee shop etiquette! Don't just squat for the free wifi. Don't not buy something because your friend bought something and you're in the clear. Don't pack a lunch and eat it here. Acknowledge that the Gray Owl is a local business and show them some love and respect!! read more

Please do not go here for a simple decaf Americano. I went there yesterday and got a bitter undrinkable medium sized (their large) for better than $4. Gray Owl Coffee - Hot chocolate - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Norman, Oklahoma

To begin, the town of Norman, OK totally took me by surprise by being way cooler than I'd imagined it to be. I was only in town for the evening and was on the hunt for a good cup of coffee nearby where I was staying. Gray Owl ended up being one of the most pleasant surprises and one of the best shops I came across on a month long tour across the US. Something that really excites me able a shop is when they're open late, which Gray Owl is. The cold pressed iced coffee was incredible and the atmosphere here is really great. Also, huge plus to the baristas for not thinking I'm insane for ordering two coffees in less than an hour after 8pm. read more

The service wasn't very good. No one told us that our order was ready. After seeing that people who ordered behind us had their order, i went to the counter and noticed our order was sitting there. The drinks weren't that great either, specially for the price. They didn't have any two-seat tables. All of the tables were four seaters and most of them had a single person with a laptop sitting in them. We had to sit on a couch that was so low to the ground it felt like sitting in a bean bag. One of the bathroom door locks was broken. So instead of fixing it, they had a post it note on it that said "knock please". If you are a hipster, you will probably look past the flaws and love this place because of the people and atmosphere. If not, i would go somewhere else. read more
