Items were ordered quickly without hassle. There was only one employee working, so I could see a line getting a bit backed up during a busy time. Ample street parking nearby. Delicious fresh-made frozen custard! I got a butter pecan concrete and my partner got the Razzmatazz. Both of us loved them. NOTE TO THE OWNERS: Five young women were behind the counter this BUSY Sunday evening. One was taking orders. One was making food. One was doing nothing but texting the entire time we were there. One was doing nothing but coming to the front counter to grab more and more and more snacks, doing no work whatsoever. Rusty's has had several names throughout its many years serving Normanites, but the quality never wanes. We've been coming here since the original location on the east side of town and it continues to be very good. Rusty's is not a huge location but most ice cream/custard/yogurt places are not. There is counter ordering and a few seats inside, along with outdoor seating in the front of the shop on Main Street. You can get samples but let me just save you some time and let you know it's all good. They usually have 2 or 3 main flavors (strawberry, chocolate, vanilla) and rotate seasonal flavors. There are a ton of toppings, from fresh fruit to candies to cakes and brownies. There are several recommended concretes that are on the menu, or you can build your own. I prefer to build my own and I usually get 1 or 2 ingredients. But, I have some of the selections on the menu as well and while they have many more ingredients I find that everything works well together and it doesn't seem to to be too much while you're eating it. Rusty's was clearly considering the end result when cultivating its menu and did not just slap together several ingredients they thought would be good. There's a reason Rusty's has been successful for so long in Norman. It's definitely worth your time. read more

I absolutely love this place. I've been here a few times and never had anything but the best service. I really enjoy all of their frozen custard but I've also had the shakes which are equally great. The vanilla is not as tasty as a flavored custard so make note of that. Nonetheless it was very good. Only complaint was once I had a bit too much cherry sauce in my treat and it was just overwhelmingly sweet to the point I couldn't eat it and tossed about 3/4 of it. This is probably one treat I will enjoy year round. Doesn't matter if there is two inches of snow on the ground, it's that good. Enjoy! read more

I went to Rusty's recently, and I was pretty disappointed. I ordered their strawberry custard and was served kind of a soupy mess, as if it hadn't set right? In addition, I felt like the strawberry flavor was incredibly artificial. I thought for a local favorite, they would be using something like strawberry puree to flavor their custard. I don't know if I would go back, since Freddy's has always given me a consistent product. Can't say Freddy's is the best custard I've ever had, but it beats this place by a mile. As a side note, the man who helped me was nice, but I wished he would have just let me know that the strawberry wasn't set correctly and advised me to choose a different flavor. read more

Stopped in for a cool treat today after having finished brunch at The Winston down the street. As we were still full, we ordered the pumpkin pie concrete to share. Wowzers! Talk about creamy, milky, rich custard heaven. I particularly enjoyed the chunks of pie crust mixed in with the custard- my love for pumpkin pie just multiplied by 5! A little bummed that we were too full to try out any other menu item, but we will surely be back because several of the other concretes and sundaes sounded/looked amazing. We got a chance to talk to Rusty himself; he seemed like a super nice and down-to-Earth gentleman, proud of his products, as he should be! Overall I was thoroughly impressed that this mom-and-pop shop was able to deliver good, quality custard amongst the ranks of two bigger and more popular franchises...if not better. Way to go Rusty! Most people went outside. The loud noise from the custard machine will cause hearing loss of the employees. Rusty should think of possible lawsuits in the future.
