I'm becoming a regular again... Long long ago, Cool Beans had issues with the availability of their signature roast (from Elemental) and switched to a different roast--which tasted bitter to me--until their signature roast was available again. Not as long ago--maybe a year, I began to note my stomach hurt (possibly the acidity of the beans?) after drinking lattes from Cool Beans, so I quit going altogether. And it made me sad, like a breakup where you 'want the best for one another, but know you aren't a good match' kinda sad. I wasn't drinking much coffee anyway (every few months I'd get a latte and might have coffee at an event or at home occasionally), but I did reminisce about the wonderful lattes Cool Beans had given me over the years. And then... A friend informed me that the owners of Yellow Dog had purchased Cool Beans. REALLY?!? Norman is what I refer to as a not-so tiny town and Yellow Dog can be found at events and various local businesses. I like their coffee and appreciate their company values and since we provide locally roasted coffee for our business, I have purchased it regularly. It took about a minute to decide to go back. And I am so glad I did! The coffee is fabulous, my visits are becoming more regular, and the 'one-of-a-kind cups bring a smile. Just as the previous owners were, the new owners are committed to supporting our local economy. VERY BIG DEAL to me. Service and speed has improved so much! It has always been good, but a few burnt shots soured me for awhile. It hasn't happened in so long! The small size is equivalent to the Starbucks Grande. Within 2 days of trying out this little drive-thru, I was back for more! I bought a hot vanilla latte this time. It was pretty good despite of it being more bitter than I was used to. Overall, it's a great place to get coffee in the morning because of the fast and friendly service! I love love this place. I use to work on the east side of Norman and this was my go to as I am a sucker for local businesses. The prices are reasonable for exceptional coffee - I'm not on that side of town much anymore but I still try to go when I can. It is a very tiny building right off Alameda, blink and you'll miss it! The only downside is that everyone else likes it so sometimes the wait can be a little long BUT everyone working is always so kind. They also have punch cards and cute stickers that go on your cup which can be a nice little pick me up some days. I've bought several of their drinks and every one has been exceptional! I drive by this place every day, and have always been curious about it. I'm not a huge fan of the coffee shops we have in the area, besides the fact that all but one don't have drive-thru's. I ordered a medium...thinking The-Store-That-Must-Not-Be-Named's medium size. HAH. Nope. I was proffered a gigantor cup...probably 20 ounces, with caramel drizzled on the bottom. C.A.R.A.M.E.L. I receive my cup and I'm fanning myself already in wait for that wonderful gulp of the perfect PSL with a tinge of caramel. Oh. My. Goodness. I really don't like coffee. At all. But you know when you just have those cravings? It just had to be satisfied. And it was. The drink was smooth, the coffee wasn't roasted so much that it tasted burnt, and there was the perfect balance of sweet froofy flavor and milky taste that completed the latte. Cool Beans brews Elemental coffee (roastery on Hudson and 8th in OKC) and the attention to making a great cup of normal coffee or an espresso drink is amazing. It is so delicious...I can taste the coffee AND the flavoring. It's pleasant to order a peppermint mocha and not just taste the syrup. Service was quick and excellent. Very pleasant barista! I wish I had discovered Cool Beans three years ago! It's in the perfect location for my commute to work (especially since there is no Starbucks between here and there). They have a variety of options and the girls who work there are always so nice and helpful when I can't make up my mind. Their lattes are delicious! If I give Cool Beans four stars I'm going to feel like the Russian judge at the Olympics. It's only a tiny drive thru/walk up coffee bar, hardly even a structure occupying a previously unwanted corner of a plot of land on the east side. However! The coffee, roasted in the city by Elemental, is phenomenal. Having a place to get coffee on the east side is also huge. I have to disclose that I'm not a guy who drinks froofy stuff. Espresso. Ice. Lil milk n' sugar. But I can't make it taste this good at home, and I don't know what I'm lacking. I don't want to know what I'm lacking, I'm happy just cruising up the block and giving a local couple my hard earned cash and knowing that between the mom and pop shop and locally roasted beans it goes to the benefit of people around me. 5 stars. Boom. By all means if you were hesitant to try their coffee, don't be. They are super nice, pretty speedy, and the coffee is probably either the best in Norman or a close second. Oh by the way I think my GF (who likes froofy drinks and approves of their iced soy hazelnut lattes) and I willed this place into being. We wanted a non Starbucks coffee bar in nearly that exact same spot and it happened. I'm not positive we did that with our mental powers, but if someone opens a dive bar within walking distance of my house in the near future (ahem old Blockbuster) I'll get back to you. read more

I feel like it's hard to find good coffee on the east side of Norman; and especially good coffee that I don't have to get out of my car for when I'm being lazy on the weekends & go makeup-free. With 3 people, all having different taste in coffee its very rare that we can find a place that hits the mark for all of us. My mom just like coffee nothing fancy.
