Wonderful ambience, great service and love the menu! The bar and happy hour menu is ample, and this is our "go to" restaurant. I had a great time, but I wasn't impressed. I found the staff friendly and our table was visited by many staff members. Some were sincere and some were not. I enjoyed talking with Danny. Before COVID, I went out to eat at least 3 times a week, so it was nice to be out. I brought my dog (he's adorable) so, we had a table outside on the covered patio. It would be nice if they had a better selection of wines under $100. I chose the Camus Conundrum Red. It was ok, but I probably wouldn't buy it again. My friend and I both got the fried chicken. The biscuit was the best part of the plate. Maybe because I've cut back my wheat intake. The chicken had a beautiful crispy skin with no flavor. I did dip the chicken in the hot sauce that was provided which made it better. The white meat was a bit over cooked. The mashed potatoes where good. Not the best I've ever had and not the worst. We got the butterscotch pudding for dessert. It tasted like melted butterscotch chips. If you like those try the pudding. I write reviews because I hope management reads them to make improvements. Based on reading the other reviews for this restaurant and management hasn't responded to them, who knows if anything will change. read more

I've heard so much about the restaurant but wanted to wait until warmer weather for outside dining. I finally stopped in last week for a late lunch and was immediately seated on the patio. I ordered a half bottle of bubbly, the ahi tuna poke, and the brussel sprouts. They were all delivered quickly, looked delicious and tasted as they looked! The brussel sprouts were a large serving-so enough for take home. Service was friendly, efficient, and more than just my server stopped by to chat and inquire if I needed anything. This was, gratefully, one of the places that sustained us during the pandemic. Dining under the redwoods in the square was magical. But it's unfortunately nothing like what it was even two years ago. Under former Chef Streete, the lobster roll was sublime, the best in Marin and comparable to prime New England ones. But today's version was way different -- mayonnaisey, chopped up, and under seasoned. For $29, don't bother. We also had the ahi tacos, which were equally under seasoned and bland, needing some sesame accents. Maybe the meat selections are better, but we're not coming back. Sorry to say. read more

It's been hit or miss with Gravity the last few times we dined there. Earlier this year, the coq au vin was excellent. Last week, it was too soupy and lacking flavor. We stopped by here for a quick snack and beer after our hike up Mt. Tam. We were seated immediately then forgotten. After 10 minutes, a runner came to our table to drop off food we didn't order. I had let him know we hadn't actually ordered and would like our server and to also move inside since we were seated directly underneath the sun. He assured us someone would be right with us. After another 5 minutes of standing in the shade next to our table and no service, we decided to leave after not being waited on. After a lovely hike with our fur baby at Camino Alto Open Space Preserve we searched for a dog friendly place to have lunch and were pleasantly surprised with our experience at Gravity Tavern. While the uncovered outdoor seating area is a little cramped, we always enjoy dining al fresco with our doggy Rochelle. The burger was delicious and cooked perfectly (medium rare), but a little spendy. I had a comparable burger in Mammoth Lakes for considerably less. The fries were yummy, but I would pass on paying the extra bucks to upgrade to truffle parmesan fries (not a strong taste of truffle oil or parmesan). My husband's corned beef sandwich was tasty, but the portion (a 1/2 sandwich) was a little paltry for the price. Overall, a nice dog friendly spot to have drinks and good, but pricey, comfort food. read more

Was there today for lunch...ordered lobster bisque soup and a French onion soup and prime rib French dip...soup came out and thought off to a good start...wrong! 45 minutes later the sandwich never showed up...asked the waitress what's up...she said manager will bring out the sandwich...no show and we said will pay for the soups and the drink which was $60...manager never came out to say sorry...real classless place with high prices for nothing but a waste of time and money ....you've been warned!!!! read more

I feel bad writing this because I'm sensitive to the difficulties restaurants are facing during these Covid times but, unfortunately, the experience we had this past Friday was totally unacceptable. Everything was running smoothly until it came time to be served. The host that greeted us was kind and friendly and sat us promptly. The manager came over to chat with us and was effusive and warm. We ordered and our appetizers arrived quickly. I should note, we have eaten here multiple times and had a wonderful experience - the food is excellent. Then we began the long wait for our main courses. I am not impatient but you know the feeling when time starts dragging. After a bit it became obvious that something was wrong but no one came to our table to explain what was going on. Eventually we flagged our server down who told us that there was a backup in the kitchen which, of course, we'd already figured out. We waited another 15 minutes and then asked the server to provide our food "to go" as we had to get home to relieve a sitter. We, mistakenly, paid our bill. Here is where things went off the rails. After another 10 minutes (or so) we flagged our server down and asked him for an update. He told us "your order is being boxed up right now". He lied. After another 10 minutes we told the manager we had to leave and we either wanted our food right now or we wanted our money back. Once again we were told "they're boxing it up right now". 5 minutes later our server brought us a small dish of some sort of dessert. At that point I told him I am walking out the door and I want my money back. Shortly after that we got our food. Can you guess what happens next? We got home and it was all cold and not appetizing. I should add - we didn't order anything complicated: Mac & Cheese, A salad and the trout dish. As I said at the start, I'm sensitive to the difficulties restaurants are going through. I wouldn't have gotten upset or felt compelled to leave a negative review if our server and the host had been honest with us. Clearly, no one was boxing up our order both times we were told that they were. For that, alone, I can't say I'll be back. read more

Had lunch there today. I mistakenly ordered what the call a Caesar Salad, ordered dressing to the side and the waiter suggested adding 'shrimp' so, I did. Their description of 'little gems' were 6 pieces of baby romaine, I think. They were small green, ribbed lettuce, that did taste good, what there was of it. Shrimp to the side consisted of 6-7 small prawns cooked in butter, served warm (for a salad?). The dressing was a small bowl of what tasted like mayo and onion powder, awful! Their idea of croutons was very thinly sliced fried baguette with lots and lots of pepper, yuck. I was not pleased. I must say all of the staff were great, friendly, pleasant and quick to serve. They did offer me something else on the menu, but nothing appealed to me. My husband's short rib was was good. He gave it a A- My friend's cheese burger was only a C. Their idea of 'cheese' was some fried disc of cheese? Their medium was our rare. We will not return. read more

I went to a really fun wine dinner featuring Orin Swift (top 100 Wine Spectator) --- food was amazing!! I even ate my entire flourless chocolate cake (I usually drink sugar). Had the prime rib dinner here and unfortunately wasn't terribly impressed with the experience. We had to wait for a new cut off meat to finish cooking, the servings that were available were medium-well, and we had pretty early reservations. The place wasn't very busy, so I don't understand the lack of medium-rare servings. The drinks were good and the staff was friendly, it was just the fact that we waited nearly an hour for our meals to finally arrive and when they finally did we were still left unimpressed. The meat was perfectly cooked, but cut and tasted like a substandard piece of meat that you'd find in a less posh town. read more

What a fantastic upgrade for this space! Beautifully designed restaurant with traditional seating, bar stools, and cozy tables with couches and love seats. Great spot for an adults only night out, although the acoustics make it a little noisy in the center of the larger room. The food was creative (pickled cherries?!? roasted almond and mint salsa?!?) and well thought out, although I really appreciated my knowledgeable server because I have dietary needs and not all ingredients were listed on the menu - avocado is not the same as avocado cream! He knew what to suggest and asked the kitchen to make modifications when needed, I always appreciate well trained staff. We tried 3 of their thoughtfully crafted cocktails and each one got 5 star reviews! Not too sweet, not too strong, but fresh & delicious. Sadly couldn't try dessert because of dietary limitations, but the menu looked amazing! Highly recommend checking this new place out. read more

My husband and I went to Gravity Tavern last night for their Orin Swift wine dinner. We are long time fans of Orin Swift, so we thought this would be a fun date night. We reserved our spots, and received an email telling us to be sure to get there early "for a welcome glass of wine + appetizers". We arrived at the appointed time, but the welcome glass of wine + appetizers never materialized. No big deal - on to the dinner. The regular tables were all taken, so we sat at one of the high-top tables, which would have been fine except for the fact that the chairs are not only too low, making you feel like a little kid, but because of the way they are made, if you try to lean back you start sliding down. Not at all a comfortable seating arrangement. The amuse bouche came out, which was a lovely oyster with gruyere and flying fish roe (or maybe it was salmon roe... the chef said salmon but the menu said flying fish). Very tasty so we had high hopes for the rest of the dinner. Unfortunately, it was hit and miss. The next course of a persimmon and rocket salad had 4 tiny thin slices of persimmon and hardly any dressing. Mostly it was a pile of dry arugula with a few pomegranate arils and some specks of goat cheese. The salad was followed by a dish that was a salmon and lobster with beurre blanc. The sauce was delicious! The salmon and lobster were fine, although I did have a piece of lobster shell in mine. Next came the duck breast with a cherry sauce, duchess potatoes, and broccolini. The potatoes were flavorless, and mine had more of a crust on them than my husband's. The skin of the duck breast was not at all crisp - just flabby and tough. And two of the people at our table had no sauce at all on their plates. The dessert - a chocolate "gravity bar" was good. The wine pairings throughout were very good, and the rep from Orin Swift was engaging and talked to everyone about each wine. But the chef who introduced each dish simply said what the dish was, without any elaboration, and never came by the individual tables to see how things were or chat at all. My husband used the restroom and said that it smelled terribly of urine. Overall, very lackluster. I was glad that we only paid $110 for the dinner, and that at least some of the food was ok. Just very underwhelmed, and I can't say that I will be in any big hurry to go back to this restaurant. read more

I usually don't like leaving review (I'm a millennial) but this place is a hidden gem. I gave this place a shot while in the area, and only thing I have to say is the random reviews complaining are outrageous. The bartender (Nathan or Nate) was super genuine, didn't try to sell me on anything like other Bay Area restaurants. Ordered a "that's what she's having" for a pre dinner drink and it was amazing. Had the lobster rolls as an app and they were great. Atmosphere was relaxed and fun, especially if you sit outside on a nice day (either get there early or go to the bar until a spot outside opens up). read more

Lovely Birthday Dinner celebrated here tonight. Staff was on it with Covid-19 reopening procedures. Comfy table outside...tasty creative drinks. The Old Fashion was superb. Had three apps to start...The Brussels Sprouts were the winner....then we had....the main courses for dinner!!! Coq Au Van, Scallops, Short Ribs...Wow, the Marta Fried Chicken was ample and so flavorful mashed potatoes and a sausage biscuit. Everyone enjoyed their tasty dinner entrees. This is my second time getting food here. I got the chicken sando w French fries. 1st time everything was amazing. I loved the slaw that they put on top. The jalapeños gives it that kick I like. The fries had the right amount of crisp to them. It was hot and fresh. Just had another one today and not so much like the 1st time. Everything seemed as if it was day old food or either they cooked earlier and not so fresh. It was just ok , mediocre today. Maybe they were busy or just an off day. Well that was enjoyable. Nice people, good energy, a much improved floor plan and overall ambiance than its predecessor, and very good marks on their food. But first, the drinks. Bar manager Sierra has a rocking selection of cocktails and the expected choices of tapped beers, all from the owner's brewery in San Francisco (at the Beach Chalet). My Old Fashioned was wonderful - a nice touch to melt the Tavern logo into the giant ice cube. My wife enjoyed her Gravity Car IPA - always a good choice. Many more to try. Need to pace myself. We shared the pork deviled eggs. Yum. Tasty small little bites of decadence. Then we shared the Alaskan Halibut which was flaky and soooo good. The yogurt-based sauce under the fish was to die for. I would (will) definitely have this again. Farro as a side and we were good to go. As with all new restaurants they are still working out the kinks (very few), but I'm sure Gravity Tavern will be a Mill Valley favorite for years to come. read more

Wrote this under covid regulations. Pros: food overall is good. Has a good variety of great plates, salads, starters, and mains, interesting menu. The desert is amazing, and has a great drink menu. The restaurant is nice and external dining looks great, hence why I decided to try it out after I saw it while biking. Cons: service is awfully slow. There was like 5 servers overall and five tables being served, and it felt it was packed. You need it to remind waiters about your order, our main waiter, wow he was talking to all tables but never paid attention... and never came to both of us for any check-in. The guy who cleans your table was more attentive and is not his job! Things came out of order like sides came after mains, some forgotten.. one arrived at the very end of the dinner... etc. drinks took forever... the main waiters didn't check at all. Tragic service. I really thought restaurant will work hard due to covid but was so lazy as far as operation, 5 waiters or so for 5 tables and such a poor service... don't plan to come back nor will recommend it around. Overall good food for reasonable prices. Standouts are the popovers, fries, Brussel sprouts. Lobster roll smaller than most. Good fried chicken. Biggest issue is very very high prices of wine. Probably 4x markup. Sav Blanc, Pinot, etc for $60 up, with majority of wines $100-$300 per bottle, with little of it anything special. Go for the food but bring your own wine. This is the first dining out experience I have had since Covid. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect or even how exactly to act, probably because I was just so excited to be out! LOL Anyway, we made a reservation for 2pm around noon, squealed in excitement, got ready to go out like we've never been out before and headed to the restaurant! We found easy parking just across the street, put our masks on and went to check in. We were greeted warmly and asked to sign in. They had lots of pens that were labeled so you knew which were sanitized, we signed in, the hostess took our temperature with a little temperature gun that she pointed at my forehead and then had me write my temperature next to my name and then led us to our table. All seating is outside and it was lovely and perfectly spaced apart from the other patrons. At that point we were allowed to take masks off so we could eat and drink but all of the waiters and hosts had masks and gloves on. I felt very safe to be out. We ordered the burrata (tasty but a really tiny portion) parmesan truffle fries (perfect and delicious) brussel sprouts (great portions and deliciously seasoned) monte Cristo (also really good. Loved the fried egg on top and the sauce at the bottom of the bowl) and the fried chicken sandwich ( the bread wasn't amazing but everything inside it was especially the jalapeno slaw) and the howling Cadillac margarita to drink. I loved the drink so much I had 3! (I wasn't driving. LOL) SO, really long story that's not short, if you are looking for a place to go to break your SIP and experience the "new normal" this is a good one! read more
