Green curry with crispy chicken
Al H.

Located on a quiet street steps from the Washington Square Arch, this is a pleasant, modern lunch spot. The clientele was made up of college students, as we were midway between NYU and Cooper Union campuses, so I felt old. This being a sit down restaurant with table service, the prices were a tad higher than what I would expect for a place suited for college student budgets. The setting was nice with fast, efficient service. As far as my curry, served with white rice, was okay, but I have had better.

I dropped by after noticing their really interesting happy hour. They have Thai inspired cocktails like the Thaitini, which is basically a Thai iced tea martini. The drink was fun and worked as the perfect pick me up. Instead of getting coffee, I got both in one for under ten dollars. Most places have an espresso martini, but this one was a bit sweeter and tasted just like Thai iced tea, which I preferred. The bar area was also super eye catching, with an old timey looking Thai bar vibe that felt like something you would see in old movies. That was what caught my attention in the first place when I was walking around looking for a good happy hour. The food menu also looked really interesting, with items I do not usually see at other Thai spots, like Thai hot pot or baked hk style cheese rice/spaghetti. I will definitely be back to try it since everything smelled amazing, even from across the room.

SO and I visited this spot in the village. The sizzling chicken pot and vegetable dishes were good, but they charge $3 for a small bowl of rice, which precludes us from visiting again.

I swung by with my friend. We both ordered Thai chicken soup with rice noodles. We both ordered thai iced tea too. They were both delicious. The soup was so good on a windy cold day. I like the coconutty flavor of soup.

Overall: C // 3 stars Had high hopes of their intriguing Chinese-Thai flavored menu, but everything was just short of expectations for me. (Pad Thai: D) - This is definitely a Chinese take on Pad Thai, almost to the point of it being primarily a stir fry tomato and egg dish with added noodles and chicken. The flavors are good though, so that's not a problem -- the problem is that there is so much large pieces of onion and green onion in the dish that it detracts from the rest. (Banana Roti: C) - Was really craving this dish all of a sudden so glad to see it exist in NYC. Unfortunately, it didn't really resonate with me the same way before because I think they used the same roti batter to make the roti to go with curry which normally has more layers and is thicker, and the ratio of bananas is significantly lower compared to the roti. Grandpa Thai is one of the most exciting new Thai eateries I've tried in Manhattan in ages. They serve a range of snack foods that I more typically see at Malaysian and Singaporean restaurants (but which I suspect may also be common in Thailand), as well as some unique fusion dishes. We started with dessert, namely the banana roti which was very satisfying without being overly sweet. As an appetizer, we also ordered the red curry cheese fries, which was actually akin to some of the baked pastas you find at HK cha chaan tengs. I enjoyed the appetizers more than my main dish, which was a red curry fried rice with tofu puffs and vegetables. It was still good, but had a bit less gravy than I was anticipating based on the dish name.

The red curry roti was good. The red curry was flavorful and the roti was flaky. Could've been bigger for the price

Great bang for buck local spot. Came here with a group of 8 and were seated immediately. Their menus are all on digital pads, so all items had pictures. My favorites were the fish stew hot pot with lemon, and Tom yum soup. The pad kee mao has a big kick to it, so be warned. They also serve Hong Kong baked rice with cheese! This is is the first Thai place I've seen with Hong Kong dishes, which was a pleasant surprise. The cheese helped cut through the spice. Bonus - if you're an NYU student they offer discount!

The Pad Kee Mao was delicious! It was a very big portion, and I liked the spicy kick. I would definitely come back to try other foods. The staff were so friendly, and the food arrived incredibly quickly. They have lots of seating, and it's pretty casual inside

So happy to discover another great Thai restaurant in the area! Got the Pad Kra Pow, and it was absolutely delicious here. I really appreciated having the option to get it with or without rice. The lettuce was the perfect combo! Inside, the place has this cool, retro charm too.

I wanted to give this a 3 and a half stars, i tried it out today. I got pad gra prao and coconut pudding. This is not really a thai restaurant, this is more of hong kong restaurant with thai inspirations. Pad gra prao: flavor was ok, not really spicy at all. Coconut pudding with coconut flakes: firm texture, very good coconut flavor, interesting sauce on it, reminds me of a cheese foam you find on a bubble tea. Good dish. Bathroom: REALLY nice, clean, warm seating and a bidet. Very fancy. Overall: if you are looking for authentic thai food, this is not it. The Coconut pudding is really good, the other stuff is ok but nothing to write home about. Super nice bathroom.

Such large portion sizes here! Definitely worth the bang for your buck. Stopped by for lunch on a random Saturday and they seated us immediately. Service was quick and our wait staff were friendly. Will be back!

- Locale Destination - It's located on E 8th st and between broadway and university pl, Manhattan. Nearby Washington square park. Ambiance: cozy, casual Menu: appetizers, entrees. Drinks like Thai tea Service: very attentive - Gluttony Expedition - Sizzling chicken pot: chicken were a bit overcooked. Flavor was mainly oyster sauce and soy sauce I think. A bit too salty for me but the flavors weren't bad. It was more like Chinese flavor, not so much of Thai flavor. Big portions. Stir-fried eggplant w basil: Eggplants, baby corns, and some veggies. It was seasoned like the chicken. Big portions. - Conqueror's Deduction - We had too similar flavor items, so don't think we can judge well. Better than average for sure. Memorable? Questionable for just 2 items.

So when we were back in town, we decided to stop in--fully expecting to have just one drink and move on. That plan did not happen. We ended up staying a couple of hours, ordering food, and having many drinks. Bin 71 is mostly a wine bar, with a few beers mixed in, and it definitely feels like a locals spot. The bartenders knew a lot of the people coming in, which added to the friendly, laid-back vibe. It's very small, so it can get cramped, but in a cozy, everyone's-in-it-together kind of way. Food-wise, we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the grilled cheese and my husband got the fish soup (cod, I think?). Both were delicious, but that grilled cheese was spectacular--honestly way better than expected from a wine bar. I'm not much of a wine drinker, so I won't pretend to give a detailed wine review, but everything we had was enjoyable. What really stood out was the atmosphere. We ended up chatting with other people at the bar, and the whole experience was just genuinely fun. If you're looking for good wine, surprisingly great food, and a friendly local vibe, this place is worth checking out. Maybe don't go wildly out of your way for it--but if you're in the area, absolutely stop in.

It's pretty cool that this Turntable location is fully decorated with records, record players, posters, etc. and of course, with jazz playing in the background. We ordered the Medium Drums & Wings Combo which took about 30 minutes to prepare. In the meantime, we enjoyed the Kimchi Fried Rice w Chicken which was pretty solid. It was cooked well, good balance of savory & spicy flavors from the kimchi and the sunnyside egg added more umami and creaminess. I still felt it was a bit dry and could've used like spicy mayo but that's just me. The Medium Drums & Wings Combo was perfect for sharing among 2 people. Both flavors were delicious but the hot spicy just had more depth than the soy garlic. The pieces are large and the crunch is insanely addictive. And no better way to wash it all down than with a Sapparo on draft! Great try!

I thought it was strange that they specifically warned us that it would take some time to make it. I mean that's what I came for, some proper Korean Fried Chicken that's made to order! The cooking method literally takes time to fry it at least twice! As strange as it was to see them do this at every table, apparently it was because some uncultured dum-dums got their KFCs confused. I mean damn, imagine having to work in a place where you have to overexplain the obvious to each customer! "Welcome to Moonbucks! By the way ma'am, our hot beverages comes out very hot. Yes ma'am, that includes the pumpkin spiced latte. Yes ma'am, it is flavored with cinnamon." Derp. The decor around here was pretty cool, all hip and shit. And by our meal's end, this place was poppin'! If you and your crew decide to dine put here, better hustle on over right after work, cuz it's gonna be packed!
