It was a pale Thursday afternoon, I was feeling a little blue and decided I deserved to eat my feelings. I scoured the web for the best sounding wrap I could find and finally set my sights on Grand River Brewery. I ordered a Santa Fe wrap to-go, got there before it was even ready and was home to eat it within 5 minutes. To my dismay they had left the spicy ranch off the wrap. It was dry and unpleasant and that was an unfortunate tell of what was to come. It was accompanied by an odd tasting pickle, which particularly hurt my heart because I am a woman who loves a good pickle. This next part was especially jarring because the ambiance of the restaurant really seemed like they would have good fries, I'm sure they would be good fresh, but the ones I found inside my to-go box were not that. Sad, hard, dry fries that tasted and felt like they had been sitting out for hours. Truly disappointing. In summary, twas certainly a mistake to treat myself to this TWENTY ONE dollar meal that didn't even include a drink...21 dollars for a horrible wrap, horrible fries and a weird pickle. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat a couple weeks ago. I ordered a cheeseburger and my son got a cheese pizza. The cheeseburger was incredible, perfectly cooked, and I don't know what kind of buns they use but they're definitely my favorite now. I'm thinking we should have gotten two pizzas cause not only did he devour a few pieces but I helped finish it and couldn't stop eating cause it was so good! The staff was very personable and kind. Stopped into Grand River Brewery - Jackson for the first time last night, expecting a quick dinner, and left really impressed. The standout was the service. Kristina, the manager, personally stopped by, introduced herself, took our drink order, and gave us some helpful menu recommendations. That personal touch really set the tone. Food was excellent. I had a build-your-own burger that was awesome, and we also had the Rachel, which was fantastic. Drinks were equally strong: beer, cider, and a margarita flight that was a lot of fun. The stout was especially memorable because it reminded me of Lion Stout, which I have not seen in years. That alone gives me a reason to come back. Between the hospitality, the food, and the drinks, this ended up being much more than a simple meal. Also appreciated hearing about their Beer Mug Club and Sunday brunch. It's been a while since we've been here. Had an event at the Michigan Theatre at 7... figured getting here at 5:15 would leave plenty of time. Got seated right away. Took about 10 min before our server stopped by, got our drink and appetizer order in then. Got the drinks rather quickly, but drinks were set quickly and server moved on. We were ready then to put our food order in. Got our apps and still no order taken. Finally got our order in, had to go to the bar to get drink refills and after an hour of being there, I'm starting to get concerned for timing. I chase down the waitress and ask about it and I'm given excuses about them being busy... later I'm told it'll still be about 10 minutes! We say to please just put it in to go containers. They come out on the plate, had to ask for take out containers... then, my Ruben sandwich I ordered was actually the turkey Ruben... I take it back and I'm treated as if it's my fault they got it wrong. They fast tracked the regular Ruben and I was able to take a few bites before we left. It was good... just wished we could have had time to enjoy it and not give excuses for a situation that was their lack of planning and sitting guests properly. read more

We frequent this great brewery during the summer while visiting family in Jackson. We love sitting at the bar and asking questions about the beer and getting to know people. Twice this summer we had the great pleasure of having Kyra J as our bartender. Her warm friendly and knowledgeable service helps us make a decision on what we like. This trip we had the Farmhouse Saison and Planet Basil. Excellent beer!! The power bowl is always a win and hubby loves the fish chowder. This fine place has fun events throughout the week. Excellent brunch!!! Fantastic food. Cool venue. High ceilings, wooden tables, plenty of seating options. Very spacious. Friendly service. Gosh, the food was fabulous!!! I really recommend coming here. I want to try everything on the brunch menu and I plan on it. They have so many interesting things like breakfast schnitzel, breakfast tacos, breakfast nachos. They also have breakfast burritos and egg Benedict. I feel like everyone could find something on this menu. I had the Huevos Rancheros and it was delicious!!! Crispy tortillas, my choice of eggs, chorizo, beans, tomatoes, lime crema, and salsa verde. Thank you!!!! The presentation was very appetizing too. I also tried the Breakfast Poutine, which had bacon. You can add other meat to it but it was perfect as is. You get your choice of eggs on this too. The gravy was very very good. Not many highly rated places in this town so this stood out for dinner on our overnight stay in the area as we were passing through. Pretty quiet on a Tuesday night but it took the hostess a long time to find us a table. Anyway - no menus just a tablet or your phone. Not my favorite for getting the big picture of the menu. I started with a can of their Polish lager for $3 - a decent beer and a good deal. I had their pimento cheese and bacon burger - it was very messy and very good and almost cooked medium rare as requested. The fries were poor - luke warm and rubbery. My wives fish tacos and veggie taco were all good. Our server did a find job. If it were warm out they have a great outdoor space but that time of year has likely passed.... read more

We were visiting the area. It has unique decor and wide open space for diners. They have live music although not while we were dining. They use a lot of local meats and support local businesses/farmers which is great. They have some interesting recipes/creations. They do have some GF dinners. Poor Quality, Overpriced, Fair Service- The menu is Brew Pup Fare but the price compared to similar Brew Pups is overpriced. $20 for a substandard sandwich that lacked taste and quality. The Mac and Cheese has a fish taste to it and the veggie burger was as flat as a pancake and tasted like a mashed bean pancake without flavor. If you are a vegetarian or have any food allergies- stay far away. Everything that is fried is fried in Beef Tallow and even after we told our server of our allergy - we still had 2 dishes served with the allergen clearly on top! The best tasting item - dessert. HOWEVER the pieces you see when you come in are the not the same you will get. Your piece will be half as thick and it will be $10. Cost for 3 people- 1 app, 1 beer, 1 tea, 3 sandwiches and 1 dessert...$110 without tip. So, beware! read more

Stopped here on a Sunday just before dinner time for a flight and an appetizer. The six sampler flight was very reasonably priced and refreshing. The 4 pretzel appetizer with 2 dollar up-charge for pimento beer cheese. The pretzels were excellent but the cheese was average. I was seated immediately and received Excellent service from Christina who worked the bar and the table I was at. Low top, booth and bar seating. Wifi but it was slow. Large outdoor patio with umbrellas and shaded areas. They also have a personal mug available which I think is great for return customers for a craft brewery. The main reason I gave 5 stars because the owner answers every review, good or bad. He complements the reviewer or tries to make things right. Most businesses just ignore the bad reviews. Kudos for this place for always trying to improve. I will definitely return to try out lunch or dinner (and another flight of course) when I'm back in the area. read more

We stopped in on the 4th of July passing through the area. The kids enjoyed the fish&chips and an extra side of fries. I got the pork dinner, which had a good mix of corn bread, pork with bbq sauce (it had a bit of a ketchup taste to it, not my favorite, not bad though), mac and cheese (this was really good) and coleslaw (pretty boring). The Blanc Stare and Old Rocker on tap were good beers, but my wife thought the magaritas (strawberry basil and the GRB version) were a bit weak, especially considering they were $10 each. Everyone enjoyed the chronic fries, but make sure you like the taste of balsamic vinegar if you order this. My wife also enjoyed the Greek chicken soup. The environment was laid-back and inviting. Our waitress, Rachelle, was good and answered our questions well. They also have a mug club for regulars, but I didn't catch the details for how it works. The price looked a bit high for some items before I tasted the food, but afterwards I feel it was worth it. We happened to go on a Sunday, and they had a special for a free kids meal with purchase of an adult one. I would definitely go back again if I found myself in the area. read more

My family went there after a weekend of camping nearby and I was thoroughly impressed with their Brunch food. I love eggs, I love potatoes (especially fries), so The Eye Opener was no doubt going to be my choice. Ironically, it was so good, I ate the whole thing and I fell asleep in the car all the way home because it was so rich and filling. There something about making poutine even more unhealthy and better by adding even more protein on it - over medium egg and brisket on it. The menu said add $11, I don't recall paying that much extra for it. Kids ate free, and they clearly loved their food as well. I look forward to going back soon. read more

The space here is huge and it has a very open feel. The servers were nice and my food came out pretty quickly. The beer samplers were nice but the order I got them in didn't match what I had written down so that was a bit confusing at first. The whitefish chowder was delicious as was the grinder sandwich. Last two times we visited the silver ware has been dirty. Had their special last night teriyaki chicken with fried rice. Said it "contains eggs" I had ordered veggies as well with fries because I've always loved their fries. (Didn't get the veggies) Meal came out, it was white rice, not fried, they put the French fries in the dish. Weird. Overpriced as well. It used to better in previous years. I had high hopes but they were dashed pretty quick. First it took forever to get a table, not because they were full, not even close. Just a super slow hostess. Big place, nice menu but the service. My granddaughter ordered a pizza which she liked, pretzels which she loved. I ordered the daily special, Schnitzel! Very tasty. Unfortunately my schnitzel came about a half hour after the pizza. She literally had eaten half the pie before my schnitzel showed up. The schnitzel also was deep fried with a heavy breading-would not order it again. It was tasty, just not what I call schnitzel. Jackson doesn't have a lot of options but this one should probably be a hard pass. read more

Went for brunch. Got the power bowl which was more rice than anything else. Made up of maybe half an avocado and sparse veggies. Got a side of Breakfast potatoes as well. Food was Luke warm at best, maybe because it was right as the opened. Service was slow and lacking for the amount of customers (5 tables at most). You know, having been past Jackson it's always such an unassuming place, and yet there are some standout items to be found out there, including the Grand River Brewery. I believe they now have two locations (the other is Marshall) and I'm continually surprised to find that even on Mother's day we can find seats at the bar. They are a good brewery - I haven't had a bad selection yet - and so I wonder why they haven't grown...I almost hope they don't, because they have that great micro-brewery vibe. I should have taken pictures of the interior, because it's a lively place, both for eating, drinking and for coming in to purchase. If the word eclectic had an image, their decor would be that...but still bright and enjoyable. The beer I had this time was the Mammoth Skull, a really quite good dipa. I almost had another but opted to try the Collins, which more or less felt like an adult lemonade, delicious! My girlfriend had the blueberry lemonade adult thingy, said it was really good. And the food? They don't skimp on the quality. Yes, things are a tad bit pricier than your standard locale but really not bad. My girlfriend enjoyed her santa fe chicken salad and I had the Phatty Melt (no mushrooms tho) and it was awesome. They didn't quite cook it to order, it was more medium than the medium rare i asked for, but a minor thing...still cooked right and delicious with the onions and cheese and that buttery cripsy bun. Good fries too. So, if you're passing, and you're hungry, try it out! read more

Stopped in on a Sunday morning after camping in the area. We needed some not-campfire food! The entire family was delighted with our meals. I had a porter to help fortify me and cure my hangover. It was a very excellent beer. I also ordered the Breakfast Nachos, which is far outside my normal choice range. I really loved it. I would have liked a bit more cheese and a bigger salsa side cup, but the pulled pork was excellent, I loved the black beans, the eggs were cooked exactly as ordered, and they were quite generous with the avocado. I would order this again in a heartbeat. My kids got the benefit of a Sunday special which comped their meals. This made the overall brunch an incredible deal. The kids loved their meals (one cheeseburger, one egg/bacon/toast special). I wish Grand River Brewery had a location closer to me - it was a fantastic meal, with a fun ambience, and a value better than most in southeast Michigan. Came out to Jackson, Michigan today with my boyfriend for Father's Day. I am sad to say I was not very impressed with the service nor the food. The ambiance is rustic and somewhat loud, which could naturally be expected from a brewery. I cannot speak to the brews served here, as I do not drink much (if at all). The service was maybe a 4/10 with a waitress who did not seem to really enjoy her work and behaved annoyed for general requests that any guest would ask for if eating chicken wings, or BBQ sauce if eating pulled pork. Interesting how she only really smiled when she brought us back the check and credit card. The food was WAY overpriced for the quality and taste. I shared 6 smoked chicken wings with my boyfriend that were indeed "jumbo". This was probably my favorite dish dipped in blue cheese, paired with the celery. I ended up taking home over half of my "pulled pork" over long-grained rice and black beans which my teenager could have prepared better. I only took it home because it was $20!!! My man ordered a 10 ounce steak that we both agreed was "tasty"; it was tender and well-prepared. This was paired with two sides, black beans he did not eat and some soggy and nearly burned sweet potato fries he reluctantly tasted.
