I had the BEST manicure experience here last week as a birthday month treat from a bestie! The staff were friendly and created a calm, peaceful atmosphere. SO many salons are inconsistent in creating such a vibe. The staff took their time in painting my nails using several coats for a longer lasting manicure. They also gave me a recommendation on how to help keep my cuticles healthy. And there was fun music piping in - Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson. SO happy to have FINALLY found my go to neighborhood nail salon! read more

My wife recently went to Grand Nails for a manicure and pedicure, and the experience was honestly terrible. During her pedicure appointment, another customer came in asking to fix a damaged gel nail. Instead of asking that customer to wait until the current appointment was completed, the technician repeatedly bounced back and forth between that customer and my wife's service. What made it worse was that my wife politely explained multiple times -- at least three separate times -- that the interruptions were ruining her experience and making her feel rushed and ignored. Nothing changed. The technician continued doing the same thing despite being told directly how frustrating it was. A manicure and pedicure is supposed to be relaxing, but this felt chaotic, inattentive, and disrespectful to a paying customer's time and experience. My wife left upset instead of relaxed, and she has already said she will never return. Very disappointing customer service and poor appointment management. read more

The woman who did my pedi on 3/21 cut the toenail on the great toe too short, causing swelling, redness and pain within two days of getting the pedi. I was told that both sides of the nail are ingrown nail. I am now on oral antibiotics and have to go to a podiatrist to get the nail removed. I'm not happy with this place, to say the least. read more

One of the MANY nail shops that seem to have clustered over the years on Grand Avenue in Oakland. I've seen several changes of ownership, but each time the equipment has been upgraded. As of this review writing, they have installed new chairs that are quite comfortable and functional. They have some new staff along with some veterans and the service is quite good. Standard market pricing. Parking right in front is usually available, which is surprising on such a busy street. read more

I've been going to Jenny and Amy for over 6 years now for all my nail needs. They do an impeccable job every time. I mainly do dipping manicures. Every time they bring my vision to life with skill and ease. I feel confident and happy when I leave. They are kind and lovely people as well. They are by far the best in the Lake Merritt area. Do not be fooled by grits or glamor and any of the shops surrounding them. They are wonderful. We've helped my natural nails grow long and strong and I always get compliments on my manicure. I cannot recommend them enough. read more

Hole in the wall, unpretentious local nail salon. The staff was friendly and not conversational. The manicurist did not attempt to have small talk. Accepts walk-ins with zero wait time. The manicure was short; it took less than 30 minutes. A hand massage was not provided. My favorite part of a manicure is the massage. The manicurist followed instructions and cut my nails short. I've been coming here for the past 4 years, but decided to try something different today and I'm glad I did! In addition to my go-to deluxe mani/pedi, (comes with a scrub, paraffin, aloe vera, and rose petals, and massage, and more) I saw some inspiration on a Instagram nail page and the Grand Nails team was able to give me a similar style! They really did a wonderful job! I left feeling super happy and relaxed! Don't hesitate to come! The staff is super sweet and nails are done to perfection! VERY CLEAN- FRIENDLY- DETAIL ORIENTATED BEST MASSAGES - NAIL ART - I am OBSESSED with Grand Nails! Jenny did my dip powder manicure and Amy helped in the beginning. They truly take pride in the work they do and they do an amazing job! I cannot recommend this place enough! I have so much to say below to explain as to why. Pictures will also be attached. Firstly, everyone at this salon is so friendly. They introduce themselves and then asked for my name. This never happens to me lol. They're all just really sweet and on my way out, I said bye to everyone working. Just a really friendly space to be in. Made my day. Attention to detail is their specialty amongst so many other things. Amy shaped my nails to perfection and got my nails in mint condition for Jenny to come in and finish the dip powder process. If you're in rush, maybe make that known. They really care about the work they do so it does take time. I personally love that they take the extra time and I wasn't in a rush but if you are, just say something. I'm sure they also do an amazing job when working fast. I overheard someone say they were in a rush and they got her out of there fast. They take walk ins and appointments without seeming to compromise anyone's appointment. Cleanliness!!!! They have plastic in the pedicure chair bowls, and I saw them scrub them each time someone left. Dip powder is put in a separate container!!! Tools are clean and come out of a plastic bag. I showed Jenny a picture of what I wanted and even offered some other cute ideas that I want to try next time. She truly knows what she doing and I'm so happy I found this place. I also saw Amy and Annie and another female (I didn't catch her name) giving deluxe pedicures and grown men were literally groaning because of good of leg/foot massages they were giving. I absolutely love getting my nails done with Amy in particular, she has such an eye for detail and will not let you leave without being completely satisfied. Went here a few weeks ago for a spa pedicure and dip manicure. Everyone was super friendly and results were great. Timing felt on the longer side as mani and pedi weren't done simultaneously, overall plan to spend about 90-100 minutes here. Great results though! read more

Grand nails is my go to spot in Oakland! They have always been very kind, polite, and professional, which I greatly appreciate. Most recently, they squeezed me in for a last minute manicure about 2 days before my wedding. Although doing my nails kept them working about 5 minutes past closing, they were very accommodating. I loved my wedding nails and I received sooo many compliments! People couldn't tell that 3 of the nails had tips added to compensate for the natural nail being short/broken. Not feeling great about my last visit. I came in for an appt I thought I had, to be greeted a little coldly by the owner. She told me my appt was the day before, which I know was not because I always schedule appointments by saying the day of the week and the date. I was okay to get my nails done somewhere else - it was a scheduling error, no harm done - but she insisted that she could get someone 2 hours later. She looked really stressed out about me taking my business to a different salon, so I said I would come back in 2 hours. For those 2 hours, I walked around trying to kill time. I come in for my appt and towards the end, she rushed through my manicure to tend to someone else. She had her male friend, who I had never seen at the salon, finish my appt. It was the most uncomfortable experience I have had at a salon. He clearly was untrained, and I do not believe he was even a formal employee. He tried to give me a hand massage with a hot towel while we made awkward small talk, I just politely told him we could just end there. When I go to pay, he prints out the receipt which I sign and write in the tip on. Before I leave, he has the gall to lecture me on why I should pay cash, and proceeds to cross out my tip on the receipt. Everyone in the salon can hear how "they prefer cash so that they don't need to report it on their taxes", and all I could do is nod politely. I've been coming here for a whole year, and I have never been that loyal to any salon. If it was just the scheduling error and had the owner been more gracious about it, I'd probably go back - but come on, so many red flags. read more

I have been getting my nails done for over a decade at Grand Nails. They are consistent there. My manicures and pedicures are basic with no frills and whistles but I love how David does my pedicures. He really sloths all of the dead skin off of my heels as well as cleans up my cuticles. The price point is great. What more can I say besides that I am a satisfied customer. read more

Well, apparently Grand Nails has more than one Powder Dip specialist. Mary, my regular specialist was not in and Jenny did my dips for me. I interviewed her first to make sure she had been doing dip nails for awhile, and she assured me that I would not be disappointed. What I like about this place is they soak off your nails (unlike some salons who drill off the previous color). Everything went great from color removal with the soak off and gentle filing to complete old color removal to my final beautiful powder dipped nails. The two pictures tell the story. I've been here twice now, and it's my new favorite nail salon in Grand Lake (and I've been to 5 or 6 at this point.) The staff is friendly and really talented -- my manicures/pedicures haven't chipped for at least a couple weeks, which is a long time for me. Both times, an Adele concert circa 2010 was playing on the TV screen -- it's hard to find anything wrong with that. Highly recommend! read more

Kevin(manager) pushed my cuticles down so much that they hurt when anything rubs them. One is bleeding. I wasn't to happy with the job(fill+cut down+gel color) in the first place but a day later my nails look worse. There are so many bumps and lumps. Overall he did a good job and I loved the price however I doubt I will be returning to this shop. My pedicure looks better than my nails and my nails are gel. read more

I do strongly recommend appointments though, they don't have a lot if people working at once.

I spent $150 ($50 deposit, $100 day of service) for gel nails that haven't even lasted as long as regular polish. Not to mention, when I arrived there were no instructions on how to get into the building. No signage. No way to communicate with her. I really do not feel that one star is deserving for this business. Poor customer service and illegal charges are added to your bill for using a credit card with their establishment!!!!! I do appreciate that they accepted me and my daughter in without an appt. after 6:30pm today, that's it. The nail techician that open the door, pointed to where we were to sit. both pedicure chairs had water drawn, but additional cold/lukewarm added. Due to my current physical status I informed the nail tech. that "the water was too cold"; 3 times before she realized what I said and added warmer water. She was rushing to get started to do my pedi, why I'm I stating this ; CAUSE SHE WAS!!! Oh did I forget to say, she stated "I have to hurry, I have a appt. @ 7pm"; WHY did she initate/attempt to perform the pedi? Money, Money!!! (Yes, I 'v been here before years ago, I forgot and the same attitudes/games are still being played by this husband and wife, the other young man who is their son): 1. This is a family run business ; (who bring young family members over from Vietnam, working them for low money, long hours and no breaks etc.) The owner's wife,came over apologizing for how her employee did etc sending over another employee to do my feet and one to do, my hands. At the same time, explainingto my daughter why she had instructed her. how to get into the chair ( she is over 30, an RN in uniform). Finally, it becomes quite, our relaxing services begin.......just kidding. Both of us ask for nail polish colors or brands that they do not carry toulene "cost to much" says the owner/lady with glasses. Current nail colors are dated for OPI and other brands present. All polishes have toulene in them and containers are old. Final straw, is the $1.00 charge for using a credit card. I was not informed prior to the charge been added to charges for nail services, informed when I question, what the charges were since the sales recipet was not itemized. THEN I WAS INFORMED OF THE $1.OO CHARGE FOR USING MY CREDIT CARD , when my signture was needed. THIS IS ILLIGEAL IN THE STATE OF CA., A BUSINESS CAN NOT CHARGE YOU TO USE YOUR CREDIT CARD. THE POSTING OF THIS ADDITIONAL FEE IS PLACED IN A LOW SPOT NEAR THE CASH REGISTER, SMALL HAND WRITTEN SIGN ( ABOUT 3X5" PIECE OF PAPER). I will be reporting this to the State Board of Equalization, that this business is charging such a fee, or the appropriate dept. in the state of CA. Oh, the owner stated" they had to charge this, because they can't afford to pay what the bank charges them in accepting credit cards" You have a ten chair shop on Grand Ave. and you have been there for over 15 years, etc. Please!!!! read more

I wonder where my review went? so I am just going to do a re-review on Grand Nails. This is my place, I've always been here and will be here. On occasions, I might stray to another new nail shop ( just out of curiosity or politeness) but I've ALWAYS CRAWLED back to Grand Nails. I've seen the changes in Grand Nails over the years, there are good things that I like and there are bad things that I might not agree with. But all in all, it's one of the better places on Grand AVe. The manager might be grouchy sometimes, but he's cool, and his work is close to perfection ( since he's been doing nails for over 15 years, I've asked!!!!), Jenny's eyebrow waxing and eyelash extension ( eyelash provided also, only $18) are PERFECT. And the rest of the crews are.... cute. They are very sweet, not only to me, but I noticed that they are like that to everyone who walks in. The service are incredible, even when they are busy. I mean with people still waiting, and they still takes the time to make sure your shoes are in the bag, your car keys out, and help you put on those flip flop. It can get crowded sometimes, and so it is not very roomy. But hey, I've got a long lasting MANICURES and PEDICURES at grand nails, much more LONGER than other places that my curiosity took me. So yelpers, I recommended Grand Nails to each and everyone of you out there... men and women and children ALIKE!!!! read more

I came here in desperate need of a manicure and pedicure for cheap because prom is already as expensive as it is. Thankfully, Grand Nails came to the rescue and gave me the affordable high quality care that I needed to look great for one of the most memorable high school events. If you look at the tip I wrote down below, you can see that the nails are in perfect shape and that the nail polish was still in tact after 2 days which is a miracle considering the amount of times nail polish has chipped off from my nails after washing dishes and shampooing my hair. It has been exactly one week and my nails are still looking good, and I'm still getting complimented. I was seated very quickly despite me coming in on a Friday evening with a friend, and let me just tell you, we were 110% satisfied. They give a discount for high school students despite knowing the fact that sometimes, HS girls can be a little stingy with their nails. If you are in need of a quick and affordable care session for your nails while having them look extremely nice, this is the place to go! read more

This place is awesome. It's very reasonable, and my nails came out great. They have more gel colors than any other salon I've ever been to! It's not fancy inside, but I walked away with the best shellac mani EVER. My only complaint is that my nail tech didn't listen to me when I asked for glitter on two of my nails. I reminded her twice, but she still forgot. Fortunately, the owner came over and fixed them for me and didn't charge me for the glitter because the 1st nail tech didn't tell me how much they would cost. I told her I expected to pay more and that it wasn't a problem, but she still didn't charge me. This is definitely going to be my go to place from now on! read more

So... I've still been here since my last review... and their service are still as good... They've added facials and massage also!!! Which is really affordable, Jenny, the do all lady, that's what I call her. She gave me an 1.5 hr facials for only $50!!!! I still love her!!! What a deal! They've remodeled the place also, looks so much nicer... Still a fan after all these years!!! PS: it's better if you make an appointment with them, and they're really good with appointments also. I only had to wait about 2-3 mins when I came in for my appointment rather than 10 mins. read more

I've been going to Grand Nail Salon for almost 15 years and every single time I get a gorgeous and professional pedi (no mani's for me as my martial arts training would just waste it). If you're looking for an affordable and relaxing nail/waxing salon, I highly recommend Grand Nails. You're treated like family here. And the Beyonce, Justin Timberlake and other fun concert DVD's they play makes it even more of a fun get-away. This place is awesome. The staff are super nice and helpful and will really take their time to help explain things to you. Their tanning lotion is high end so if you can afford it go for it other wise BYOTL. eye wear is provided which is really annoying about other places. and you can tan for 20 min which is unheard of. you get a deal on spray before noon. I recommend tanning lightly first and then get a spray over it wait 24 hours and take a shower don't scrub then lotion after you get out. this always gives me a glowing nice tan. read more

I have one word that describes Grand Nails, and that word is fantastic. I have been going to Grand Nails since they opened over ten years ago. I have many reasons for being a long term customer, but there are two major reasons. The first is the cleanliness of the salon and second is the professionalism of the staff. Over the years the owners have improved the appearance of the salon and added more services, yet kept prices affordable. They do such an awesome job here. I recently moved back to the area and Grand Nails is for sure my go to place. They are consistent, take their time and very nice! My nails are perfect and the price is extremely reasonable. You definitely get what you pay for I had my gel removed and a full set for $35 Jenny did an awesome and the guy also helped too...I just forgot his name And did I mention when u get pedicures they buff your feet too! read more

I asked for just a plain set with chrome powder on top, and they delivered! The service was also very good. I initially made an appointment with 2 other friends, but it was in the evening and there were only 2 nail technicians there, so my friends got their manicures before me. Even though it was past closing time, Cindy still offered to stay late to accommodate me. I had other plans though, so I offered to return in the morning, and she let me set up another appointment that worked with my schedule. Overall, I'm very happy with the service and with my nails!!
