Large variety of sushi, including salmon, tuna, shrimp, squid,eel, many types of nori wrapped rolls ( Calif Rolls, pickled vegs, cream cheese, spinach, seaweed ) and the slightly sweet sticky rice "inari "sushi. Shrimp and mussels were offered in several styles. Steamed clams looked good too. Snow crab legs, and lightly fried panko breaded shrimp were nice. Chicken wings were very meaty and tender. Several kinds of dumplings beckoned also. Poached salmon looked great, and my choice of steamed Filet of Sole was delicate and delicious. Stuffed mushrooms were a nice little treat. Stir Fry station has many choices of meats including shrimp, as well as vegs and noodles. When I choose a stir fry, I have no appetite left, so I'd rather go with a good sampling of other dishes. Cold desserts island included some very tasty coconut macaroons, mini cream-puffs, and a mixed fruit topped custard on layers of flakey phyllo - a delight to see with sliced strawberries, kiwi fruit, mandarin orange etc set into a whipped cream topping. Unlike many beautiful looking and very tempting fruit tarts I've seen, this one tasted every bit as good as it looked. Hot desserts were on a separate island along with cream cheese wontons, chicken satay and other non-dessert items. Though tempted, I skipped the little sugar donuts and the sesame bean paste balls in favor of some delicious warm blackberry cobbler. Our server was always checking on whether we needed drink refills or plates removed. I couldn't imagine any better service at a buffet place. I pulled a filthy fingernail out of my mouth that came from my food. This is my Worst experience I have ever had here. Just finished eating on 3/18/14 @ 7:30pm. The food selection was extremely poor amd quality even worse. But, I never expected to pull a workers finger nail out of my mouth. Disgusting, unsanitary and they didnt even make things right. This place is amazing! Are you kidding me? $8.95 plus tax (at least on Tuesdays) for all this unlimited food?? 6 islands plus a sushi section and a custom stirfry section. Decent sushi too. This is the happiest I have been all week. I just ate 4 plates full and I'm going back for more. Get in my belly!!! The employees at the door seemed a little bit stressed out but that's not my problem. All they have to do is show me where to sit and then it's game on. I guess some people might not like this place if they don't like eating unlimited delicious Chinese food and sushi. Matt is the best waiter that has ever served my family and I at this establishment. He is very attentive and wears very cool glasses. Never fire Matt because he is good at doing his job. I'm very pleased with the variety that Grand Buffet offers. We've been eating at Lai Lai's on Churn Creek and their sushi is always dry and super small. Grand Buffet has dim sum, sushi, salad bar, dessert bar, 4 entree bars and a stir fry section where you can choose what you wanted cooked. Staff isn't very personable and it can be hard to find someone to fill your drink. Otherwise, I might give it 54stars. Worth checking out. read more

Very disappointed. I was able to pick out about a half-dozen edible items on the menu (the fried shrimp and chicken on a stick was good), but it was not worth $13. The egg drop soup tasted like pure oil, the soft noodles were doughy and barely warm, and the sweet & sour spareribs tasted distinctly unfresh. If your going to Mt. Shasta with a group or family stop by here for a all you can eat Asian buffet. They have sushi, all things Chinese, salad bar, deserts and oddly enough pecan pie. The bonus was the very large koi pond that they had inside. It was cool to see these huge fish swimming about and you can feed them for 25cents. Recommendations--salad bar should include something other than iceberg lettuce. For $7.75 (well, $10 including tax & tip), all you can eat typical fatty, greasy, fried Chinese food, all very yummy obviously, a sushi bar, a Mongolian beef stir fry station, and a handful of desserts, including a soft freeze machine. Oh, and real fruits! Gotta load up on those pineapples; good for digestion. None of that gross syrupy canned stuff. Absolutely disgusting. This is from two years ago. Visiting Redding and found this place. I thought this would be a pleasant experience. Except it wasn't. Food was ok and all, but what came after I left was unbelievable. They said they don't use any MSG, and for me, I usually have a severe reaction to MSG. Guess what happened? I got sick that night and couldn't sleep. I kept getting up to go and vomit. Stomach hurt so bad, I was debating whether I should go to the hospital. Not to be that dramatic. Love the fish there that you can feed but I was jealous of them because while I was sampling a variety of off tasting dishes they got to eat dry food pellets which I am certain are far superior to anything offered at the buffet. I should have farted on the way out because it would have vastly improved the flavor and aroma of the food. Came here with a tour group and once I walked in, the white lady and the Chinese guy at the entrance counter immediately tried to guess my age in English, thinking that I didn't know English. That was really rude and they were talking exceptionally loud. When we sat down, no one asked us what we wanted to drink until 20 minutes into eating. Given that it's located in redding & the limited choices this city offers, I would rate grand buffet as mediocre. This place is quite spacious but offers such limited food. Most of the meat in their stir fry were old which explains the over usage of salt. The oysters were good until you reach the third bite. The sushi looked appealing but appearance is definitely deceiving in this situation. My best bet is to settle for the steam snow crab & the three-four soup varieties. Not gourmet but good food and all you can eat. If you like sushi and like to eat it until you're full without spending a fortune then this is the place to go. Again it is not gourmet or even sushi bar quality but it is good and fresh (made right in front of you and put on ice). Most importantly you do not have to be rich to get full as with most sushi restaurants. Many yelpers consider themselves 5 star food critiques, but if you are an average Joe who likes asian cuisine and sushi grand buffet is awesome. This place is kept "very clean." Always been seated right away for both lunches & dinners. Dinners are best for freshness across the board around 5:00. They have fresh & delicious veggies & fruits with many meat & fried foods too. The desert section can overwhelm you with it's offerings. NOTE: The Ice cream is hiding back by the Sushi, but has limited toppings. They have both American and Chinese foods to choose from, with various Chinese soups and steamed foods. The very fact that it's Chinese food tells you it's salty, so Chinese food should be avoided period. If you are with others and salt sensitive, eat the numerous American foods they offer. My only complaint almost every time, is the lack of communications with the servers. They are very polite, but the grasp of English is sorely lacking and so you have to check your drinks. As someone else stated, once it is clear to them that they can't communicate with you, you don't ever see them again. I say tip accordingly and write your problem on the bill. for owners/management. Early evening, and I'd been in town in meeting all day, and had skipped lunch - I was ready to eat! The idea of a 'all you can eat buffet' was very satisfying, so I headed to Grand Buffet for my first visit. I was greeted pleasantly, and promptly shown to a table. It might have been nice to have had a quick intorduction the the restaurant, as it was my first visit - but never mind, I was ready to explore. I'd heard that they prided themselves on serving fresh food, with nothing on the buffet for more than an hour - and I saw plenty of evidence of attentive staff ensuring that this happened. The food was attractively presented, and the wide choice was almost overwhelming. The salad items were cool and crisp, and exuded freshness. The hot foods, were just so, just the right temeprature, without being dry, or over-cooked. Really, my only disappoontment was the salmon - I love salmon - but this was pale, and lacked taste and texture. During visitis to the buffet (clean plates every time please) my table was efficiently serviced, used plates removed and soda replensihed. Aside of the salmon, I left happy and satisifed. I had originally given this three stars but after my last experience I must change it to one star the Grand Buffet is nasty it stinks in there they offer you several different kinds of shrimp that all have one thing in common they taste like they were caught at low tide and forgot about on the beach if you're going to get anything at Grand Buffet go to the very back and have that guy cooking for you from scratch don't eat the garbage that's in the trays on the buffet except for the fruit the rest of it will leave your stomach hating you. Some people give this place a low rating and suggest the pricing is too high. But honestly it's very comparable to any Chinese Food place in town. Sure at Grand Buffet you can't take home any left overs but the food here is just as good as and they offer a lot more options. Atypical meal for my family of 4 (2 kids who eat for free at Grand Buffet) is about $40 at our go to Chinese food place. Which gives us left overs sure, but we usually only get 2 entrees with chow mein then white rice and soup of the day. No sushi, no appetizers and no dessert. Our kids ate for free, and after tip our meal was $35 (which included our 2 adult meals and then 2 chocolate milks for the kids and a soda) and Grand Buffet has so many options. Crab and cheese ragoons, spring rolls, pork dumplings, pork buns, rice, chow mein, wonton soup, egg drop soup, and a couple classic entrees like sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, chicken and broccoli, AND they have sushi options. Not to mention a wide variety of seafood and also classic buffet food like pizza, french fries and fried chicken, a small salad bar, and a dessert bar. They ALSO have small Mongolian BBQ option in the corner for made to order bowls. I didn't even mention all their food options I just can't remember because I'm almost in a food coma.
