We love this beginner and intermediate ski area! There is probably no better place to teach your kids to ski, and they are very family friendly. We enjoy the night skiing from time to time as well. If you are going up from Denver and arrive late on a weekend night; it is nice to burn some energy skiing a couple of hours at night, then eat at the grill at the base. I don't want to make offers for Granby Ranch, but if you have a problem, they are willing to work with you. I bought a lift ticket and my friend arrived late due to traffic. They wrote me a credit to use later (because I hadn't used my ticket). So many people are helpful here and I don't know all their names, but Jill has helped me many times. We are from Florida, here in Colorado on vacation for the first time. Granby Ranch has been the PERFECT ski resort for our family. All four of us took ski lessons (highly recommend for first-timers) and thoroughly enjoyed 4 days of skiing. I watched my kids go from barely able to move on skis to gliding the slopes with joy. Granby is very family friendly and has not been crowded. We were not interested in a place full of wanna-be olympians zooming past as we learned to ski and this provided exactly what we needed to enjoy our trip. Staff was friendly and helpful. The last time I skiied was 10 years ago in Michigan - I know! Blasphemy for someone who's been living in Denver for almost a year now. So when a friend visited and was dying to go skiing, I was looking for somewhere not as expensive as the more popular resorts and Granby Ranch fit the bill. For a half day and rentals, we each paid $87, which wasn't bad comparatively. There are five lifts and I was perfectly content on the bunny hill while my friend was able to tackle more advanced runs. All in all, we had a good time, the employees were friendly and helpful, and I'd return if I ever come around to loving skiing. read more

Very frustrating I called on Sunday. They said they are open every Wed-Sun. They do maintenance on Mondays and Tues. I spent $150 in gas 3 hour drive. And they decided to do their maintenance on to day Wed instead and didn't tell anyone. Highly suggest going to other bike parks in area. This place very unreliable. The resort has unfortunately gone through some trying issues over the years with new owners, new names and bankruptcies. Summer activities were slim but pre-COVID, Wednesday evening live music was something to look forward to, especially the good draft beers they sold out of the grill. That's all gone now, including no Wednesday evening music(which were all very well attended) replaced with an occasional concert. Even worse, their draft beer choices are now stupid. They claim to have Colorado beers but they definitely did not pick the best or even good ones. Offer some mountain beer. Oscar Blues, Elevation, Breckinridge, Storm Peak, Neversummer, Telluride,etc, etc....or something Like a couple of nice IPA's (Voodoo Ranger, O'Dells, Bells, Founders, Descuttes), some classic Ambers (Avalanche, Fat Tire, Moose Drool), some browns and a decent porter. What you have now is yuck (in my opinion, sorry) P.S. still love GR, just not their beer. read more

I have been to Granby one time on a college ski trip. It was an OK, clean little resort but it was relatively inexpensive so I made the silly decision to return. I bought ski lift and rental tickets for Spring Break 2020. Our trip was cancelled two days before heading out to CO due to Covid-19. Upon the sudden cancellation, it was assumed that our money would be rightfully refunded... nope. I was given a voucher for the 2020-2021 season. Fast forward to the current ski season and we find ourselves unable to make the trip and use our vouchers. Luckily, my boyfriends parents were willing to take the vouchers off our hands. They contacted Granby Ranch in order to properly get the vouchers handed-off from me to them. Not only was the communication slow/lacking, they then told us I had to be present in order for the vouchers to be redeemed AND I will not be receiving any kind of refund even though I am unable to use the voucher. Over the phone they explained to me that Granby Ranch was under new ownership and that they did not HAVE to give me the vouchers but they did anyways... well yes, it is a pandemic that would be absurd to not provide any kind of return offer. However, if you are going to give out vouchers and NO refunds you should allow these vouchers some more versatility. Would not recommend going to this resort on account of how unorganized and unfair the new owners are proving themselves to be. read more

We were married on top of the mountain. Granby Ranch, and it was the most magical and amazing experience of my life. The view was absolutely breathtaking. The catering was wonderful. The Base Lodge was fine. Sadly, only the bunny slope was open. No refunds given on 3 day pass. Got boring in 30 minutes. Could be a good place if the lifts were running and runs open. They made it sound like thing were all open on opening day. Pool and hot tubs closed do to COVID . Things are not good there now. Go to Whitefish Montana!!!! Also , the rope lanes to the chair were super long for no reason. No one was there. Lots of pushing to get to the chair for no reason. I came down the hill and came I to the open spot from the side and a nasty lady (only lifty that was ever rude) said "the line forms down there" (There was NO line!!!!!) Her name was Hispanic like Conchita or Camilia or something like that. She was a witch. read more

Granby Ranch is the perfect destination for families with kids or beginners looking to ski (or board). I haven't stayed at Granby yet (my family has a time share nearby), but this year was my second trip to ski at Granby. Last year I was a newbie on the slopes, so I signed up for a group lesson and I'm so glad I did! It was only a few hours long but the instructor seriously taught me everything I needed to know. Later that day I was confident enough to hit the green and blue runs. This year, I was able to pick up my speed and fully enjoy the blues :) The slopes are open from 9 am-4 pm and prices are reasonable. I know you can do a half-day too (second half of the day only) and that's cheaper. Plus, they have cheap night skiing (which I haven't done yet) from 5-8 pm. With all the inexperienced skiers, I have to say the lifts run pretty slow. I assume it's because of people falling getting off, and nervous about getting on. It's understandable, but also super annoying when the lift is constantly stopping. We rented our skis from somewhere else, but like everyone else has said it looks like they need a better system. The lines are always super long. The bar and grill at the bottom of Granby mountain is awesome. They were short staffed the last time I was there, but we still had a great time sitting outside and even inside up at the bar. Our bartender Michelle was great! Super personable and helpful. My favorite drinks were the loco cocoa, mojito and their bloody mary's. Michelle made the bloodies homemade with extra horseradish and they are awesome! Plus, they're topped off with all the fixings - celery, cheese, hot pepper, olives, and pickles. The caesar wrap and sweet potatoes fries are yummy as well. One day I ordered the steak fries though and they were not fully cooked. Wah wahh. I don't really have a comparison to Granby because it's the only Colorado mountain I've skied, but I've been there 2 years in a row now and it's definitely a good time! Bonus: people watching there is just adorable because there's like 3 year olds on skis. Priceless. So pack up the kiddos and hit Granby! read more

We made reservations for ski lessons and our confirmations recommended picking up our equipment the night before. Confirmation email also recommended completing the liability waivers before arrival, which we did. When we arrived the night before to get our equipment--as recommended--we had to complete the waivers for four all over again. Long line to get the rentals. Stood in lines 5:15-7. No one directing you where to go or explaining the process. I recognize this could be staff shortages causing the problem. Staff fitting us were great. Patient and polite. I give them 5 stars. Next day...another line to get our lift tickets and everyone had to sign the liability waivers again. For many of us in line it was the third time. Slowed the line immensely. I started the check-in at 8:20 and was late to ski school at 9:30! They couldn't find my reservation. Thought we should already have our lift tickets because we checked in the night before. Massive technology issues. Our clerk was actually shutting down and restarting her computer to get it to work. Clerk at the front desk was awesome trying to fix our reservation but I felt for her with technology challenges. Ski instruction was solid. I'd give them a 5. Amelia was awesome helping me change out my skis twice (My first two pairs weren't working properly) and helping my family with challenges as first-time skiers. We learned from our instructors that we should have gotten helmets when we picked up our rentals because we were all in ski school. Final words: while staff and instructors are good, the ranch's check-in process is the most disorganized and frustrating event I've ever tried to manage for my family. Maybe labor shortages are part of the problem (and I don't want to bash on those who show up and work and offer great customer service) but technology and process appear to be the main problem. Management needs to make some fixes IMHO. read more

This is definitely a place to take the little ones skiing for the first few times. The slopes are not too crowded for those just learning how to get up on their skis. Now if you're used to blues and blacks (and diamonds, etc.) - you may want to drive the extra 15 miles to head over to Winter Park or Mary Jane. My husband and I decided to switch from snowboarding to skiing on this trip. You can't beat the prices for the lift tickets. We priced Breck just to get an idea and it was literally double. I do not recommend group lessons during peak season - and if you haven't booked your private or semi-private lesson early enough, you're SOL. As others commented, they need to work on efficiency when returning rental equipment. The line can get ridiculous. I also think customer service could be better when it's time to close the lifts. They could be a little nicer about it, as opposed to just shoving a 'closed' sign in front of their face at 3:59pm as the lifts close at 4pm. read more

First time here over Spring Break, a lot of other Texans had the same idea. Granby Ranch is perfect for families learning to ski. Group lessons for brand new skiers are very affordable and my 6 yo was making turns and stopping by the end of day one. One of the two mountains is all green and blue, the other side has black and blue, perfect for kids and families. Never saw a line at the lift. There are fun things for people to do coming down aka tunnels, obstacle course set up like an old Western town. We rented a condo at Base Camp One via VRBO and am so happy we did. A short walk to the lifts, the ski hut, the restaurant/bar, and the very warm outdoor pool and spa. The lift tickets were already reasonable but when I added my 50% savings for being active duty military - woohoo! This was an awesome experience and we hope to make it a yearly tradition. The other tip I wish I had known was that there is a full size grocery store 2 miles from the condo - City Market. It is a Kroger/King Sooper business so bring your savings card. Also a gas station, McDonalds and a Subway, so literally no reason to go anywhere else! read more

I am going to start this with the most important piece of information for parents. The Granby Ranch ski school lost my 3 1/2 year old son yesterday in ski school. Good part is our son found my husband while looking for his class outside. No one was watching him and he walked outside, by himself, got scared because he had no idea who his teacher was and saw his dad standing by the ski racks. It was an absolute mess in the ski school area they had no idea what was going on. This ski resort is known for families, I learned how to ski there as well as my sister. The new Granby Ranch owners have ruined this resort. It is no longer family friendly, trust me they do not care about your kids. We, along with a lot of families saw it firsthand yesterday. With everything happening with schools and everyone understanding the importance of keeping children safe I am disgusted by Granby Ranch and the way they handle children. They refunded our money, but really, who cares? All they kept telling us (and the 10 other parents that came in mad because their child was still sitting in a room and not learning how to ski) was that they were not expecting to be this busy and did not have enough staff. Not Good! 1 lift open - long, jam packed line. Waited over 30 minutes to go up on 12/28. Super long tight rental lines even if prepaid. Felt bad for those people missing hours of skiing.Lots of deception. Promote new fantastic snow making machine but no snow being made anywhere. Bathroom closed for cleaning all day but no one is cleaning it. Green runs are bare-grass,sticks will wipe you out. Good luck beginners. About 3 total runs open.No one answers phone or emails. A big skier, I had never thought of visiting Granby Ranch. The small, 3 lift, family-focused resort hadn't caught our attention. That is until my husband & I began looking at wedding venues in the mountains. Tons of fun. It was so great skiing. I started yesterday. My very first time skiing. It was so worth it. I was on the "magic carpet" at first. Then after 5 hours of on that it was time to move with my group to the green run. It was hard at first but my instructor really helped out. I went back today and it was so much more fun. Granby is the worst ski resort I have ever been to!! The ski school was a complete joke. I have been skiing all of my life and decided to try snowboarding. I booked an adult lesson 3 weeks in advance and kids lesson for an 8 and 11 year old. We get there and they don't have enough instructors so the ski school puts me in the same class as the kids are in. I ask for an adult class for the next day and I am put with the instructor named Paul (from England). He had no patient and was a complete jerk. He would yell if you were not learning quick enough during the lesson. We went to the Easter Sunrise service and breakfast and had to wait in line for over 30 minutes to get our food. Granby is so unorganized! I will never go back! Don't waste your money! read more

This is a great place to learn to ski if done correctly. There are plenty of green and blue slopes, and you have the option of getting a private or group lesson. Since I began skiing as an adult at the age of 18, the group lesson didn't cut it for me as there were far too many people in the the group, proven by my skiing into a sign, falling, and crossing my skis without the instructor even noticing (and this was on the magic carpet!). The ski instructor showed frustration with me stating I would just make things harder on myself if I didn't listen to her. I did not listen and begin skiing down the slope because I was terrified about going down a mountain not knowing how to turn or slow down after not even handling the magic carpet! I then shared an instructor with one older lady, and felt a little bit more comfortable as the instructor was very patient and friendly. Years later at age 30 I was able to get a private lesson, and I finally learned how to parallel, which made skiing easier and more fun. I am now able to handle green and blue slopes without falling. The scenery is beautiful, and the condos at The Mountain Side are very cozy and comfortable. My husband and I look forward to coming here, and enjoy the private hot tub in the condo in addition to the beautiful slopes! Even though this is a small ski resort, there are a couple of bars on base in addition to a good restaurant. read more

We found a fully furnished condo at Base Camp on VRBO "Vacation Resorts By Owner" at the foot of Granby Ranch Ski resort. It was a beautiful place with a dedicated ski locker on the first floor....a true ski in ski out location. In addition to skiing, there's a golf course, hiking and cross country ski trails, and fishing on the Fraser River. During the spring and summer couples get married at the top of the mountain...how cool is that. They also use the ski lift to take mountain bikers to the top. Within a short drive there are number of other ski resorts to include the Devil's Thumb and Winter Park. During the summer the town of winter park has free concerts in the park. We had a great time and can't wait to return next year. read more

We rented a condo here through Homeaway.com for about $60 a night. This was an excellent mountain for our group of 4 beginner/intermediate skiers/snowboarders. We rented equipment here as well, and Heidi in the Granby Ski Shop was absolutely fabulous in giving up pointers and helping us to get the best deal. She has a lot of good info, and it was great talking to her. Buckhorn was fun green run, all the blues off the Ballroom lift were great, and Dragon Lady (a black) were our favorites. Outside hot tubs were really relaxing after skiing, and City Market was close for groceries. In the same parking lot was a liquor store, appropriately titled "Liquor Store." Keep on down the road past Winter Park about 15 minutes and you will run into Granby Ranch. This is great find, and PERFECT especially for families and beginners. This place is a great resort if you have an RCI timeshare. They offer ski in/ski out and up to 3 BR / 3 BA units. The skiing is very enjoyable because you never have to wait in line, plenty of green and blue runs, several terrain parks with jumps galore for a resort this size. One of the most inexpensive lift tickets anywhere, $56 for a full day; $48 for half day. This is unheard of in CO. (Wolf Creek offers similar pricing, but it's for more advanced skiers and no terrain park) Great place for families, offer a wide variety of ski school classes. Doesn't get as much snow as the nearby neighbor Winter Park, but it's enough to have a good time. read more

We went to Granby Ranch as it was recommended by a couple locals and the closest place to the lodge in Grand Lake. We were visiting Grand County from Texas, we don't have snow here and didn't really know what to expect when we walked in Granby Ranch. We walked up to the front counter, spoke with a young man, let him know we were from out of town and asked for advice on renting a snowboard and where to go. He was not accommodating at all, he even gave us a blank stare, seeming annoyed that we were unsure of what to ask for. He gave us some prices and times for lessons, but we did not feel comfortable. In fact, we felt more like a burden and inconvenience. We ended up renting our gear from Beavers Sports Shop and snowboarding in Winter Park which was about 20 minutes further, but definitely worth it. read more
