We didn't come here for the boating rentals, but yes we came to feel the sand and touch the waters! There is one or two picnic tables nearby, but make sure you check for bird poop as the birds love to get a glimpse of the lake. We did walk up to the counter and asked about rental pricing and it was so busy and disorganized that we didn't get an accurate quote for an hour. I saw that you can sit two people in these tiny boats, and on the left, we saw people using their private boats. To get here, you have to pass through the shopping center and it is by the "Rustic Cuff Boutique." The parking lot here is quite nightmarish, and it's ideal to just park in the shopping center. read more

Not the best marina at grand lake. Not great prices, and the employees were very disrespectful towards us as guests. Boat director use negative words towards us and made instructions very unclear for use. One older gentleman was very disrespectful, tried to fine us for no reason. Go to another marina. read more

During our family trip to Grand Lake 7 of us decided to take a tour of Grand Lake. We considered just renting a boat but we are very glad we chose a guided tour. The captain was so wonderful! We learned so much a local history! We would have missed learning that moose can dive and that there are snowmobile races on the lake! We wouldn't know interesting details about so many of the houses on the lake. We all agreed it was well worth it! read more

Absolutely horrific customer service. My father (who is a senior) tried to rent a boat for our family and after we had paid, we were told we had to drive it ourselves. When we explained that wasn't possible, the employee 1) lied and said he had told us that and 2) screamed at us in front of a dock full of people and said, "You made an assumption and there are no refunds!" We ended up paying $90 for nothing and they wouldn't give us a refund. Buyer beware - Super rude employees and the worst customer service!! read more

Disorganized. This group does not take reservations. They asked us to check back in an hour and said we were first in line for the next boat. When we returned 30 minutes later we were told that we were behind at least one other group that was sitting on the dock. Not a very professional business. Payed a good amount of money for two hours on a pontoon boat. It took about 20 minutes to get our boat ready to go. They took this time out of our allotted time. When we asked about it, the staff person answered in a dry manner we needed to bring the boat back at the time it said on our ticket. The staff is very young and has little experience with the service industry. I'd shop around town for a different rental place. The lake and scenery was great. read more

So fun. Got a four seater boat for two hours. I think for the size of the lake this was the right amount of time. Weather changes fast in Colorado as it did for us. Hot the first 30 minutes followed by dropping temperature and then hail. We braved the elements and after ten minutes it warmed up nicely. Had a great time. read more

Our family had a wonderful experience renting paddle boats, kayaks and taking a guided boat tour of Grand Lake while on vacation this summer! I was taking my 4 & 2 yo boys on the tandem kayak with me and the shop owner was willing to let me do just a 30 min rental for 1/2 price because I was not sure that my little ones would last the entire 60 min. for the regular/posted rental time & rate. We had such a great time! And our tour guide on the guided boat tour was born and raised in Grand Lake and was interesting and informative I'm what he talked about, our family was so glad we did this! I rented a motor boat a few weeks ago. As mentioned in another review, this place seems to be run by teenagers. The website listed the boat as having a radio/cd player... it didn't. We were told after we rented that we were restricted to Grand Lake. The lake maybe good for canoe or kayake, but it is very small for a power boat. There isn't much to do. As mentioned, the lake is surrounded by houses and their is a restriction to stay 200 yards from the shore. This makes the lake even smaller. Also, there is no alcohol allowed on the boats which would have been good to know in advance. Lastly, we were charged an extra $100 for a prop because they said we chipped it. They threatened to call the police if we didn't pay. Not great customer service. read more

We had a great time in our Canoe this weekend, what a beautiful lake and town! The staff was young and obviously learning their position but helpful and friendly and the cost was reasonable, I think about $10 and hour so we packed lunch and paddled our family to a picnic site in the middle of nowhere. My group rented a pedal boat for an hour on a Wednesday afternoon. It was a quick process and everyone was very polite. We were traveling with a friend in a wheelchair, and they were patient with our getting him on and off, though they did lack in tact. It was a lovely afternoon, an easy activity, and I would recommend it to anyone traveling through Grand Lake. Be sure to be prepared for hot weather (sunscreen) AND cold weather (fleece/hoodies). read more

We had made reservations for a pontoon boat. When we got there we were told that a pet counts as a person on the boat. I understand that the Forest Service has rules, no problem there, but when I asked to talk to the manager and explained that we had looked up and down the website for rules about pets and found nothing. He said its on there but couldn't pull it up to show me, yeah right! Then we pulled the website up on our I-Phone to have him show us and he had an "emergency" all of the sudden that he had to leave and couldn't show us where on the website it was. I'm sorry but could you be any more obvious that its not on there, it would have taken 2 seconds. The manager was also just flat out rude, no customer service skills whatsoever. He was yelling and made his excuse to get out of there fast so that the young people working there were left to deal with his mess. Man up buddy! All we wanted was to be discounted or accommodated, but all he would "grant" was someone would have to step off the boat and we would still have to pay full price. I am sorry but..... your mistake, you need to be a professional business and fix it. I mean even a phone call or email with rules and regulations beforehand(which I guarantee it will be on the website soon after this). Its important so that when we drive a distance we aren't left out to sea. Needless to say we took our business to Grand Lake Headwaters Marina and they were fantastic(go there, or anywhere but here), in fact the pet/baby being a person was the first thing they asked us about when we called to see if they had an opening. That my friends is what customer service is. Don't rent from Grand Lake Marina if at all possible, only if you are in a bind. Lastly, I will give them credit for giving us a full refund, but my guess is, it was because deep down the manager knew we were right! read more

If all is possible avoid this place. We rented 2 kayaking boats, the experience from booking till returning the boats are horrible. They allow online booking but at end it tells you it will contact you in 24 hours. But the night before they have never contacted us. We went down there asking because we were staying in the area. The staff told us they were too busy to contact us! We should have switched to the 2 other rental places right next to them, but we did not. We rent 2 kayaks for 3 hours for early morning. The kayak looks very beaten up, dirty. The staffs cant care less. We went on and the solo kayak flipped and the lake water was extremely cold, it was dangerous. Alot of motor boats driving very fast passing by, waves were high and the kayak for 2 was ok, but the singular was highly unstable. I have kayaked singular many times before in river or ocean, I have to say their equipment is very old and unsafe type. we are tired and did not enjoy it so we came back earlier asking if we can return the boat earlier. The staff said no and if we return earlier we will not get refund. We understand and we ask his help to get off boat. He wont help but keep restating the policy of non-refund so many time and it came to a point of really unnecessary. So we ensured him that we heard him but please get us off the boat, but he wont stop repeating : we wont give your money back if you get off, we will not give your money back.... on and on.... it is crazy! There are 2 other rental places right next to this one... we do not know if they are better, but please avoid this one! read more

Avoid this marina if you can. I made a reservation and placed a deposit for a pontoon boat months ahead of time for the July 4th weekend. When I talked to the owner/manager (or someone who represented themselves as such) I specifically explained that we would have 8 adults and three children aged 6, 3, and 2. I called a few weeks before to confirm the reservation and again made it clear that we would have 11 people in total. He assured me that since 3 of the 11 were small children that we would be fine with a 10 person boat. When we got there, the high school kids they had working told us we could not all go on the 10 person boat because the authorities were cracking down and that they had no 12 person boat available for another 4 hours. There was no owner/manager on duty either. When I explained that I had been assured by the owner/manager that we'd be fine with a 10 person boat, she told me that the cause of the mix up was that the owner/manager had been on heavy pain medication for a knee injury. The employees' tone was unapologetic at best. There are other marina's on Grand Lake and the adjoining Shadow Mountain Lake. Find one of them instead. read more

Worst Customer Service EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sent an email 4 weeks ago to get information on a boat rental. Never heard back, should have been a clue. Called during business hours and always got the voicemail. Left a message on a Wednesday night. Got a call back Thursday morning saying you eft a message 20 minutes ago, ahhh no! So asked about a boat rental for Sunday, Was told they had it available and the rates. The rate quote was more than what was online so I sent in the online request. About 4 hours later got a call that the boat was not available because someone rented it before me. Find it real hard to believe that it was rented within 5 minutes. I believe they would rather take reservations over the phone as they are not discounted. Can see why the reviews here are not all that good. Wish I would have got the information 4 weeks ago when I asked for it. read more

We had a pontoon boat rented for a bachelorette party; there was a miscommunication on when our reservation was. At first I was very upset, but they handled the situation like professionals. They fixed everything and got us a boat when they were totally booked. Mistakes happen, the way they took care of it is where they stand above most customer service situations! Blake helped me over the phone and when we got there, our Doc guy, Corey, was amazing. I especially loved it when he threw our bachelorette into the lake! If she would allow me, I would post a very funny picture of it. Corey definitely made our day and we had an awesome time on the lake. Absolutely beautiful! And that is coming from someone who is from Colorado, although Denver. If you are traveling to Colorado in the summer, you should really go to Grand Lake and rent a pontoon boat, just tool around the lake, you can not beat it! read more

Be very careful with this outfit. What they do not tell you is when you give them your credit card number, they run your card for $75 and later call it a non-refundable deposit. Our condo flooded and even though I called one day after the reservation was made - two weeks prior to our arrival, they will not refund our $75. read more

We stopped by and were told specifically to return for the sunset cruise (6pm) because the waters would be calm and the winds are calm. It was "sold" as the most pleasant cruise offered. This cruise is only offered Tu., W., F., Sa. I called to confirm/reserve (6/29) the morning of the cruise and was told specifically to show up at least 15 minutes prior otherwise our spots would be given to walk up customers. Upon the 5 of us arriving, there were 2 other party's waiting for our Captain to show up. A total of 11 guests were waiting to go on Sunset Cruise. I called to ask where our captain was and only reached a recording. What a HUGE disappointment, no captain, no cruise, no return call, not even a note on the door indicating cancellation. Poor way to run a business, horrible customer service. We will book a trip with the GRAND LAKE MARINA across the beach. We will captain our own ship. read more

Although it was a very busy day (Fourth of July is a big deal in Grand Lake), Headwaters was able to outfit us with a 60 HP motorboat for our family. The boat wasn't the zippiest, which was fine because we had never tried motorboating before, but it was very clean and spacious. We were supplied with life jackets, a map of the lake (with some explanations of areas to avoid), and sonar. Even though the weather was threatening, our boat ride was quite pleasant, and we definitely got hooked on the experience. The staff was very helpful in both launching the boat and docking it, as well as when I left my purse behind in the boat. Overall, it was a fantastic introduction to boating and we can't wait to try it again! read more
