We thoroughly enjoyed our full day Royal Gorge Whitewater raft trip. It started at 9:30 AM in the town of Cañon, about 1 hr 40 min from Breckinridge. Checking in was easy and low-key. There were only about 30 people going on the river that day, which is a contrast from other places which sometimes have to process hundreds of people a day. We got an adequate safety briefing and equipment fitting, and then we were taken by bus to the put-in point. We had about two hours on the upper part of the river, which was Class 2-3, and then had a lunch break. Lunch was absolutely amazing -fruit, cold cuts, bacon, cheeses, vegetables, toppings, 3 different loaves of bread - made the biggest Dagwood sandwich I've made in years. there was enough food for 20 people but they were only five of us on the boat including the guide. Then there were cookies to die for. The second half of the river contained the class 4 Rapids, and the Royal Gorge. We were well coached through the difficult ones. Beautiful especially when we floated under the Royal Gorge Bridge, about 1200 feet above us. By the end of the day, we really felt that we had an exciting experience that we had earned through our hard paddling. Joe, the guide, had a great attitude with all appropriate safety consciousness, with an encouraging and humorous personality. Equipment was in top shape. read more

We floated the mildest route out of Buena Vista. Our rafting guide Dan made the trip a lot of fun. He brought out a squirt gun at 1 point and made the trip enjoyable. Only real complaint we had was that the departure felt very rushed. We arrived well before we were supposed to leave but then we were thrown wetsuits (some absolutely soaked) and jackets fairly last minute and had to hurry into our gear (not easy with our 3 young kids) and jump in the vans. In the rush, we forgot to bring water for the several hour trip. Our family was split between 2 different vans to drive 20+ mins to the water. All in all, a fun trip, but for the $ we spent, there could have been more organization and maybe a little reminder on what to bring/not. read more

My family owns a timeshare in Breckenridge and have rafted with Performance Tours for years. This year the rapids super high and amazing! Highly recommend the guides at Performance, particularly Drew who guided us down Numbers this past Wednesday, or Ara who guided us on Browns Canyon yesterday. Numbers is usually challenging but the high water levels made it even more so. Drew's vast experience made it feel safe and fun! Yesterday Ara guided us down Browns Canyon full day trip. She's amazing too! She took us down perfect lines on challenging rapids all day long! Both guides were calm, encouraging, fun, happy and made the trips super enjoyable! Had a great time rafting with Performance Tours today! Our guide, Shawn, was funny and good at explaining what needed to be done. The rapids were exciting and I always felt safe. We were picked up and dropped in Breckenridge by our guide (it's a 1/1.5 hour drive to the PT shop in Buena Vista), which was very convenient and appreciated. We were also provided lunch at the shop. Wow! What an awesome day. We had a party of 9 and our raft trip was amazing. We had 2 rafts--teenagers and old people. The "old people" raft guide was PJ. He was AMAZING! One of our group has anxiety and he helped her through her fears. His skills were top notch. If you have the chance, request PJ. You won't be sorry. Our family had a great time on Brown's Canyon- the guide was knowledgeable, lead our team well, giving just enough paddle direction for a very smooth experience. We could jump out and cool off at points and learned a lot about the history and science of the area. We even "surfed" on a ripply curl of water which was really cool. Experienced guides who take safety seriously (which is a good idea in level 4 waters) but also make sure the atmosphere is fun and exciting. Our son & 2 grandson's (8 & 14) took the afternoon, 1/2 day tour on August 2. The experienced guide was excellent. However, there was an elderly couple added to their raft, who were completely unable to assist, one lost her paddle, & they should not have been allowed to "participate." My boyfriend and I booked a half day trip on Sunday. We were blown away with this experience. I have been rafting several times on Brown's canyon, but this was my most memorable experience by far. We were placed with 4 other people on a boat with the raft guide, Ashley. She told us stories the whole time we were rafting along the beautiful Arkansas River, and when it came time for a class 3 rapid she prepared us for what was ahead and reminded us all of our safety features so I felt prepared every time it got adventurous!
