The menu is outstanding, however one gets what they pay for and this isn't where one would take children or those who want a quick meal. I will try to keep this review short but there are plenty of things I need to mention as a chef for…read more11 years and Assistant General Manager at an upscale restaurant in Denver. All of this review is written to improve future dining experiences for others. The historic rapids lodge restaurant is trying to be a fine dining experience when they don't have the front of house service, nor kitchen experience to hold that standard that they are having you pay for. ($82 ribeye, $21 deviled eggs, etc..) It is a beautiful venue on the river I will give it that. We also had a LARGE party, and I recognize fully how difficult that can be, but it was my sister in laws engagement day and celebration. We tried to set our reservation months in advance (as we were a LARGE party and wanted them to be prepared) and they didn't respond to our several calls until a month before (not bad), then the night of the event they were not even close to prepared. The host walked us into the restaurant without the tables set up, WE had to help set them up because they didn't know how many were in our party nor how to seat us. We didn't get silverware until we asked twice, we didn't have enough water for 20 minutes, we didn't get menus after sitting at the table. Those are the base line issues that any restaurant should have down, especially one with this price tag. The fine dining issues I want to mention, they don't have wine menu's to pair their food with. We never had enough bread for the 17 of us (we got a quarter loaf at a time). I see the owners vision, and he tried to make up for the mistakes with free sides and dessert, but while he was a pretty good host I don't think he has the staff to accomplish a fine dining experience. Overall, disappointing experience for the price point, and mid tier experience for a dining experience at one quarter the price point. To the restaurant, meet the bare minimum before you try to charge $100 a head. Get a wine list and prepare your waiters when you're charging $24 a glass. Train your staff to care about the menu and know what they're talking about with food and wine pairings. I know it's not denver, so if you can't find people like this in grand lake or train them yourself, LOWER YOUR PRICE POINT and change your business plan to upscale casual. Please. P.S. We still tipped 20+%, but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone until they try to adjust their business plan.

We got seated in a nice quiet area around 7pm on a Sat; I just wanted to try the world famous Green Chile and Rocky Mountain Oysters which did not disappoint!! Ask for extra sour cream if the green chile is spicy but I thought it was amazing as it is! Rocky Mountain Oysters were deliciously creamy and crispy. Loved that Mavericks has rotating local draft beers so definitely ask for what they have on tap. Athena was really attentive and gave us great suggestions for us to explore Rocky Mountain National Park, Granby and other sight seeing highlights. We topped off the night with her favorite dessert recomemdation; bourbon pecan pie with ice cream!! Absolutely delicious!! Thank you Athena, Mavericks and Granby for making our first day in CO such a wonderful and memorable time! Love the cozy environment, decor and very easy parking.

From sit down to orders being brought out was over an hour. And in that time our order of chicken wings came out but they were ice cold. Imagine waiting an hour for food to be served cold. I'd avoid this place. Service was bad as well, in the hour that we were here we got one refill. Sorry for any typos, I'm a little dehydrated typing this up.

I'm telling you, she was the SWEETEST server. This was our last day of vacation, and she definitely left us on a high note. Our food took about 25 ish minutes. And it was sooooooo good. And my family also said they really liked their food. And to add to that, their dessert was delicious. Also, the temperature in there was perfect. Not too cold, not too hot. Thank you so much!

You could even sit at the bar......if you wanted to get sucked into a conversation with a middle aged man that was drunk, baseball hat bill flipped up like he's 18. Oh yeah and he's recently divorced. How do I know all this???? Because he was louder that SHIT, drunk and seated 40' away from me. None of the staff told him to quiet down, NOPE, just kept serving him mimosas. Know I know why he was divorced. Good for the ex-wife!!! Let's get to our waitress.....Marie. Holy hell! She came over and took our drink order, probably high! We ordered drinks and she forgot about us. It took 20 minutes for us to get our drinks and they were delivered by the busboy. She came back 10 minutes after we got our drinks and said....."where did we leave off?" Are you FU@KING KIDDING ME???? Once we reminded the stoner that all we have is drinks and we were ready to order she pulled out her digital ordering pad. First thing we ordered they were out of. Great, she even recommended it? I'm thinking to myself, how the hell did we land the female Spicoli as our waitress??? Shit! Whatever we order, she ain't getting it right. Meanwhile the two tables around us are verbally getting pissed about Stoner Marie's lack of memory. Let's just say the food was ok, service was HORRIBLE. Don't waste your time. Not work the money!!!!!!

The bathrooms and showers (in the front) are so clean and well appointed. It shows they care. They even had granite countertops!! The roads are dirt/gravel but they are also well cared for, little dust, easy to walk and no major potholes. We loved seeing the horses every day and they were very happy to see us when we had carrots and apples to share. The WRR is close to the lake and town. Also a good location for exploring Granby, Fraser, Winter Park and more. The people that work there are all great. Pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. We will be back.

My family and I spent 5 nights here at the end of July for a family retreat event…read more GENERAL LOCATION: The ranch is in a great location nestled near the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park at approx. 8,000 ft in elevation. It's also a 5 minute drive to Grand Lake and horseback riding. The town is definitely on "mountain time" meaning they start shutting down when it gets slow, or just before nightfall. THE RANCH: The ranch in general does have a lot to offer and it appeared that it's mostly used for weddings. They have a basketball court, volleyball court, kids play area, petting area with various farm animals, indoor pool, workout area, kitchen area, gazebo, fishing stream, 2 bridges, yard games, s'mores fire pit, BBQ grills, and a ton of places for photo ops! There were also several cabins throughout the ranch of various sizes that could hold families of 4-5 in each cabin. I think there were close to 15 different cabins to stay in. PROS: We really liked being on the ranch and got to spend some great quality family time doing family events on the ranch. We fished, rode horses, played BB, cornhole, and a few other yard games. We also saw a large Moose and her baby grazing about 100m from our cabin. It's really common to see Moose in the area, but it was a special treat to see her with her baby. We also saw humming birds and tiny chipmunks around all cabins each day. CONS: For 2 days we became overwhelmed by mosquito's. It got so bad that they called in a local company to fog the area with repellent to help kill them. The fogging did help and significantly reduced the number of mosquito's in the area. The rooms, bedding, beds, bathrooms, and cabins in general are nothing to brag about. They are old, and in need of big updating. I tried not to let this cloud my judgement about the ranch as a whole because we were there to enjoy the outdoors but it would have been nice to come back to a nice room and shower at the end of the day. If their main focus is a wedding venue, I was expecting to be in a much nicer cabin, especially considering they cater to people on one of their most memorable days. The cell phone coverage in the area is very hit and miss. Overall, the family and I enjoyed our time here and made some great memories!!
