The chef, Carl Messick, comes from Peter Shields Inn and is now the owner and chef of Grana. He seems like he's trying really hard. I give him a lot of credit for what seems like hard work. - The restaurant is clean. - The wait staff is trained, but some of them could be a bit more pleasant. - The food is prepared well, and it's clear that Messick is a trained chef. BUT, the food is uninspired (verging on bland at times) and almost identical to Messick's menu from PSI. I was hoping for something different. When I think about Grana, there's nothing on the menu that I can say "Wow!" about. Everything is just "okay," but not memorable. Also, the bread is stale. Don't you think that if you're paying close to $200 for a meal (2 people) that the bread should be fresh? It's almost as if the rolls were frozen and thawed. Overall, I don't really see a reason that I should go back to Grana. I do wish him success, though. read more

I ate here on 10-21 with a party of 4. We had an 830 reservation and we're seated as soon as we arrived. For an appetizer I had the butternut squash soup with smoked trout. The soup was creamy, flavorful with a touch of smoke from the trout. For my entree I had the shrimp and grits. The entrée was also delicious. I had the pumpkin cheese cake for my dessert. Beautiful establishment, superb service, and quite possibly the absolute best scallops I've ever eaten in my life. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly, beyond compare to even our most crave worthy preparations of similar dishes at our favorite local restaurants down the shore. Already have another reservation booked for our anniversary in August! Grana will be our new go to for all special occasion dinners (and any random Rez we can secure-lol)! Had a very enjoyable meal at Grana on Saturday night. Everything from service to ambiance and of course the food was really solid. Our waitress was helpful without being pretentious, and she made sure we knew what was up with both regular dishes as well as some interesting specials. In terms of the food, everything we had was somewhere between very good and great. I had a special with squid ink pasta and a pesto cream sauce that was very different and absolutely delicious. The appetizers including a roasted butternut squash soup and a really bright and light crabmeat salad were spot on. Our first time here, and we'll certainly be back. read more

We celebrated my parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary at Grana last week. Food, service, atmosphere...all were spectacular! We had 21 guests and selected 3 courses from the event menu. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented by an attentive and exceptionally profession waitstaff. Highlights were Grana Lump Crab Salad, filet mignon, salmon, creme brulee, steamed toffee pudding. Megan, the co-owner and event manager could not have been more organized or responsive. We had a table for flowers, drinks, party favors. The was restaurant was extremely flexible, allowing us to drop off a large cooler for alcoholic beverages the afternoon before the event. We had one guest with a wheelchair and walker who was easily and thoughtfully accommodated. I highly recommend Grana for large and small groups and look forward to returning very soon. If you look at the photos on their website, they are nice size portions. What they give you at the restaurant is nowhere near that portion. The salad at $19.00 was ridiculous. The Halibut was a filet of 1" x 4" for $44.00. We were very disappointed. The people give you a lot of fluff but the kitchen under performs. There are so many good restaurants in Cape May I just can't recommend this one. read more

We waited 6 weeks to Get a reservation. My expectations were high. I was texted 3x to remind me about the time. We were Seated in the corner which was fine-out of the way. Our server, Kit, was informative, answered all of our questions but let us know we had two hours to dine. Wow, WHAT a way to start. The grilled octopus was outstanding. The char on it perfect. The so called charcuterie was simply a round dish with cut up Meats, cheese, mounds of nuts and dry bread put on the top of it. It was sloppily prepared with nothing artfully arranged. Dont order it! Our pasta course was delicious . We shared the fusilli and risotto dishes which were both delicious and flavorful but very rich. My halibut was a special It was fresh but served at room temperature which I should have sent back but didn't. An order of the scallops was tasty and served warm. My friend's salmon was not prepared to the temperature she requested. She ate very little of it. Another diner had steak which was Oddly prepared. One portiom was medium rare while the other was medium and overcooked. How Does that happen? The desserts were very ordinary. The interiør has low ceiling tiles, indoor-outdoor carpet with dim Lightning and drab gray colors. It is not uplifting. I will not be returning Anytime soon if at all. read more

The place to go in Cape May for an amazing dinner. I have been here twice. Once in July 2022 and again in September 2022. In my opinion it's the most complete dining experience (outside of having a bar since it's BYOB) in all of Cape May. The foie gras I've have 3 times (once for appetizer and dessert) is probably the absolute best thing I've ever had. The tuna poke is insanely good and in fact so good the table next to us almost demanded we try. The second course pastas, tried them all between both times, the orecchiette was my personal favorite. Main course, I've tried the duck breast, the squab, the rib eye and the mahi tuna bowl and I cannot decide which one I liked best. BUT the service was best of all. We had Kit as our waitress tonight. Just an absolute delight. The entire wait staff was courteous, friendly and FUN! Like I said. It's a complete experience. Get reservations as early as possible because this place is going to be booked far in advance if it continues on its course. I'm not a professional food critic by any means. All I know is I was happy leaving this restaurant both times and I'm looking forward to my next visit to Cape May and whatever Chef Messick has on the menu. read more

Absolutely outstanding! It was a last minute decision to eat at Grana last night. We went online and were pleasantly surprised to see that there was a 5:00 reservation available so my girlfriends and I grabbed it. We decided to share the first and second courses because we couldn't decide and we wanted to try a few things. We started with the charcuterie board and the octopus. The octopus was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious (I'll be dreaming about it until I return there!) The charcuterie board was lovely though wouldn't order again. For our second course we had the fusilli. There are no words to describe the deliciousness of this dish. The sausage, the mushrooms, the sauce, my goodness, it was amazing! My friend and I each ordered the halibut and my other friend ordered the duck. We were so happy with our choices. Portions were perfect. We were pretty stuffed but had to try a couple deserts. We got the apple bread pudding, hands down the most delicious dessert I've had out in a long time, and the chocolate panna cotta, which I didn't love but my friends found it amazing. Our server was excellent, very knowledgeable and attentive. All in all, an excellent dining experience which I highly recommend. Definitely looking forward to returning with my husband. read more

I was really looking forward to going here. The atmosphere was very nice and clean. Waitress was knowledgeable. We had 3 cauliflower soups, 2 octopus appetizers, 2 halibut dinners, 2 crab cakes specials, 1 orchietta, 1 creme brûlée and one coffee. The octopus was chewy, the crab cakes were dry and full of shells. We split it between 2, it was $208 each (tip in that) for a sub par byob. Left very dissapointed. Our first time at Grana, and we will be back! We had an early reservation (recommended) as the place was packed within an hour. Each course was amazing, the Lobster Waldorf Salad, the Octopus, the pasta choices and our entree's - I had the Barramundi fish, on the menu in place of the Sea Bass that evening. It was silky and buttery and cooked perfectly. My husband had the Grana steak which was out of this world good, with a delicious coating perfected on the Chef's magic grill. Great service and a lovely atmosphere to celebrate a birthday. Go there. It's worth it. read more

Grana BYOB was absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere was so lovely and relaxing, and the food was amazing. My husband and I shared the oysters as our first course. I had the fusilli which was so flavorful and complex. My husband had the truffle risotto and he only let me have two bites it disappeared so quickly! We also shared the ribeye special which was perfectly cooked medium rare. We ended the evening with the rosemary creme brûlée, the best creme brûlée of my life (I only let my husband have two bites). We were really disappointed. We planned to visit and couldn't make it because bad weather made for some icy roads during a big winter storm coming from out of state. We called to let them know as a courtesy so they could maybe reseat the table and the woman who answered the phone told my wife "it's just rain" and proceeded to berate my wife ​for cancelling and at ​one point all but called her a liar. I'm not sure this is a place that deserves anyone's business. read more
