After trying another popular breakfast spot, George's Place was exactly what I was looking for. The food was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying without being overly complicated. I was recommended the tiramisu waffle and it did not disappoint. Loved it. Very old school diner feel. The beachfront location makes it an easy stop before heading to the beach, and the portions were generous. I'd absolutely return on my next Cape May trip. Keep in mind they do not accept credit cards and send you next door to get cash from the atm. There's no mention on this in Google and caught me and apparently the line of diners behind me by surprise as we had to pull cash for our meal after service. Got to the restaurant at exactly 8:00 am and did not have to wait for a table. We were there for an hour and it never got super busy. The waiters were so attentive but never pushy! Always made sure our coffee and water stayed filled. I ordered the banana french toast. Each layer was stacked to the brim with soft but not super mushy bananas and the most delicious brown sugar, caramel. Although it did not come with a side it was quite filling (though if you have a larger appetite I'd order one). George's special was exactly as described. The hashbrowns stole the show. I don't normally review places however I thought it was outrageous that the workers did not bother to communicate anywhere or at any time that this was a cash only establishment, and that they did not have any high chairs even though I walked in with a baby in my hands. George's Place is always a go-to of mine when down the shore. I went this weekend and it was just as delicious as ever! This is their OG location and it was featured on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. It's BYOB and cash only. We brought a bottle of white and locked in for a delicious meal! My favorites are the hummus tessera to start and the chicken souvlaki for my main. Be warned! The portions are large and all come with salad so you will be full with lots of leftovers to bring home. The hummus tessera comes with 4 types of hummus (original, red pepper, basil and olive) and pita bread. All are delish, but the basil is my fav! And the homemade pita is next level. The chicken souvlaki comes with lemon potatoes, tzatziki and your choice of greek or caesar salad. It's so classic and so delish!! I get this every time. My friend had this as well and loved it. When researching eateries to try while I was in Cape May, George's Place came up on many a list of top places to try. The menu looked like it had some solid dishes, and I head they were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives - so I thought it was worth checking out. I had just settled into my hotel room and was looking for lunch, so off I went. There are two George's - the original one here on Beach Ave and a second location off the Washington Mall. The restaurant is owned by a group that operates several eateries and event companies in Cape May and the greater Jersey Shore area. I think I came after the lunch crowd, as there were a few tables open when I arrived. Soon after my server asked for my beverage order - I asked for a sparkling water with lime, but was told they don't have sparkling water - or limes. I found that odd to be honest, but fine - a water and lemon sufficed. Soon after, though, I saw another table with a bottle of Pellegrino - so did they serve sparkling water or not? Did I need to be more specific in my request? I know this place is BOYB but does that include sparkling water? So many questions. Really though, no limes? Anyway, the menu wasn't too large and contained a large selection of Greek items. I decided to go with the turkey and brie sandwich, which came on sourdough and served with a house salad and fries. The salad and fries were good - the salad had lots of components/textures in it and the fries were typical Greek-style sliced potatoes. The sandwich was a disappointment - specifically the fact that the turkey was cold-cut style which in my opinion really downgraded the sandwich. It would have been nicer to see sliced turkey breast, or at least something that wasn't so processed. Service was fine, they were friendly enough. Overall though, I don't understand the hype of this place. Maybe I ordered the wrong item, but even if this is a no-frills beach eatery I thought they could have done better; I don't think seltzer, limes or sliced turkey are things reserved for higher-end establishments. If I ever return to Cape May I would likely bypass this spot. read more

I could eat here every day the food is just that good and consistent. This is my favorite location (there are several other George's places in the area). I've liked everything I've ever ordered from here but the Havarti panini is my favorite by far. I pair it with the unsweetened raspberry lemonade. The hummus is another must. I could eat it by itself (and I definitely have when I've run out of cucumbers ). Their sandwiches come with a side salad and French fries, both which are delicious. The salad is not your typical boring side salad which I love. This is the smallest location and since it's right by the beach, parking can be challenging. Inside it can get very crowded. They have mostly booth seating and it's cash only. There is an atm next door they suggest if you don't have cash. We just went last week with my husband, 2 kids and sister. Making a reservation was easy. The place is by beach avenue its quite small but we fit ok at the booth. I am not sure though how they will accommodate a party over 4 adults if they want to be seated together. The yelp menu pictures show there was a choice for burgers but when we were there for dinner it wasn't in the menu. Perhaps it was a lunch menu and i didn't notice. Dinner menu did not have any choices for kids so even though we ordered a variety to see if the kids would like any of them, they were not interested and ended up eating the pita and a little bit of the potato wedges . All in all the food we ordered was great. My husband ordered a sample of meats platter, my sister ordered the salmon and I ordered the braised beef, then a side of pita and hummus. I'm a sucker for a DDD restaurant and couldn't resist George's. I lucked out with my arrival at 7pm on a Saturday night without a reservation. But it was just me and so they put me at their only one-top table and I have no complaints! I managed to stick pretty close to my keto diet with chicken souvlaki, hold the potatoes and extra salad. Their Greek salad was fabulous and delicious. Fresh lettuce and tart cheese, just perfect. The chicken on a bed of sautéed spinach was wonderful. Moist, flavorful and still hot from the grill. I cleared the plate. Most Greek desserts are sweet and all carbs so I opted to skip that course tonight. And yes, George's is still cash only. The food while being a generous portion, especially for the price is average AT BEST. Bland and boring; if it weren't reasonably priced, we would feel ripped off. The service was awful. We were seated right away and offered drinks and that was the last of anyone appearing at our table. We sat patiently with our menus at the end of the table for so long that we considered leaving. The servers just kept walking past us or standing around either the front of the restaurant or the back chatting away. I wish we had just gotten up and left when it was first discussed but we were hungry and had already been there so long that to start over somewhere else just didn't make sense. We had to flag one of the servers to order. Then we were completely ignored again. We really should have left and given our money to a deserving establishment. We love all the George's places haven't hit wildwood yet but we will. You can count on the consistency throughout the different spots. I always get the gyro it was just as good here as the other spots the platter. The management knows how to train everyone and are able to transfer the experience throughout their restaurants which I appreciate. My wife gets the salmon scramble which she loves love loves it's a great deal. Another Cape May spot, we came here on a recent trip for dinner. We didn't realize there were two locations and almost went to the wrong one! Luckily we figured it out before our reservation time. It was fairly packed and we noticed that several groups brought wine so it is a BYOB restaurant which seems like a good idea if you prep in advance. We ordered the falafel crostinis which came with 3 varieties: pesto and tomato, feta and olive (we opted for no feta), and red pepper with tzatziki. The portion size for this was a good amount and we both really enjoyed this appetizer. For the main course, my partner ordered the branzino (served whole) and I got the beef short rib. He enjoyed the fish, he felt it was well seasoned and tasted fresh without being too heavy. He managed to finish which was impressive. My short rib was a hearty piece of meat, unfortunately, it was a bit dry for my taste. The sauce on the short rib was great and I was able to ask our server for extra jus on the side. This helped a little but didn't improve the meat's inherent dryness. The potatoes were very crispy but I wished the meat had been more juicy. Both of our mains came with salads (a choice of Caesar or Greek). The salad tasted fresh (I opted for Greek sans feta). All in all, this place made solid food with the exception of the short rib. I'd rate it a 3.5 but rounded up. This wouldn't deter me from coming back but I'd probably stick to their seafood options if I returned based on this experience. read more

Popped in here after it was recommended by our motel. It had been on my radar anyway, so decided to head here. Lucked out with a dinner seating and service was really fast. The hummus and pita was a bargain at $4. Loved it. The $19 chicken souvlaki came with a layer of thinly sliced fried potatoes that I swear to baby Jesus were the best I've ever had in my life. Crispy but tender, perfectly seasoned. The salad was generous. And the chicken souvlaki was good - I personally would have liked it if it had been more well-done. Like others, I was surprised when the check came and I whipped out my credit card that I was told it was CASH ONLY.
