So disappointed that I recommended this place to friends from Avalon and the experience was not good at all. We were a party of ten and all ordered entrees and several appetizers. My tuna was inedible. I wasn't able to express this because even though we had two servers (a main one and a trainee) no one came to check on us during our meal. The tuna was tough and nervy. I didn't eat any of it. Finally, at the end of the meal the server arrived to talk about desert. I let him know and showed him that the tuna was inedible. Instead of offering to take it off the bill he comped us two deserts. We ordered three deserts and were comped two. What I would have expected to happen is my tuna, which I didn't eat, should have been removed from the bill and we should have received a free desert to compensate for the bad piece of fish I was served. It's awkward to bring these things up in a large party. I live in Cape May and was always curious about this place so at least I'm no longer curious. . We've enjoyed experiences at YB, Shamone and Georges but this was a fail. read more

I gave one star for the nice atmosphere because, unfortunately, everything else was terrible. Our server had very little knowledge of the menu. I specifically asked whether the Greek salad contained lettuce and cheese, explaining that some restaurants prepare it differently. She told me it had lettuce and no cheese. It arrived with no lettuce and covered in cheese. The calamari was dark brown, with several pieces nearly black. It tasted overcooked and as though it had been fried in old oil. We ate inside, yet there were several flies around our table, and one actually landed in my glass of wine. Dinner was just as disappointing. My mother ordered her salmon medium, but it arrived well-done, dry, and unusually thin. My husband ordered the branzino, which was so overcooked that he could not eat it. His Brussels sprouts and rice were cold. The saffron rice had a strange texture, as though cooked rice had been mixed with undercooked rice, and there were hard, rock-like pieces throughout it. My father ordered the surf and turf. The "surf" consisted of only three small shrimp, while the steak was fatty and had large pieces of gristle running through it. The restaurant did remove my husband's meal from the bill because he could not eat it, but the overall experience was still extremely disappointing. Extremely disappointed in BRYNE. DO NOT MAKE A RESERVATION HERE. Your card will be charged. I was charged $360 even though I spoke to an employee on the phone and cancelled my reservation. I tried to cancel on the app but it said I had to call the restaurant. I could not get through to anyone. I continued to call and finally got through to someone who confirmed they cancelled the resi. Then the next morning I see a $360 charge on my credit card. I tried to contact them a bunch of times since, several different ways. They even read my Facebook message and didn't even answer! Extremely rude! I'm sad that a business could behave this way, especially in this economy. $360 isn't chump change and I got NOTHING out of it. read more

What's to cheer - Very attentive, friendly, wait staff - Nice tablecloth setting - Reasonable portion sizes - Yellowfin was ok, although could have been sliced thinner Whats's to jeer - Food is a little bland - Duck Confit was good but a little overcooked - Asparagus was both raw and overcooked - Surf and Turf: Cooked well, medium rare steak. Needed a better sauce and seasoning - Short Rib, need some more salt and pepper at least. Sauce had a bit of an acrid taste - Duck ravolis had too many pistachios and was dry - a little pricey. Brine is a great consideration for breakfast/brunch while visiting Cape May. They have some staples on their menu, but what immediately stood out to me was the creativity in their options. For example, I had gotten the pancake tacos, which was a pancake shell with fried chicken and gochujang maple syrup sauce. While this was fun play on "chicken and waffles," and didn't have a final execution that left me feeling like this was a dish I couldn't find anywhere else. The table next to us ordered the smoked salmon and whitefish board. Even though we only had the chance to look at it, there was no mistaking the portion of this thing. It was a beast, and certainly looks like it could feed 2. Their service was nice - and did a decent job managing the summer tourist rush. I did have to ask for the coffee I ordered a couple of times, but all in all, standard experience here. Went to Bryne back in August. Very nice setting, sat outdoors - great ambiance. My salmon dish was very nice and overall service was very good. The only negative was my wife got the porterhouse that was described as "chef's temp". Although we never thought a good chef would cook a real nice $56 steak "WELL". We should've asked for our own temp or sent it back - it should have never been served IMO. read more

This is a pretty restaurant on the water but only 3 tables were filled the entire time we were there. No atmosphere at all and that was at 6:00. We left at 7. Scallop appetizer was very good as was the grilled bread and butter with roasted garlic. Haloumi was also a very nice appetizer. Octopus was extremely overcooked and chewy. I always love a good byob place. And it's very helpful when it is in the name. I liked the ambiance as soon as we came in, seeing one of the workers hanging on the wall. The menu for dinner is a great size and all the food was delicious. It is what I consider expensive. A kids meal is $18, even for buttered noodles... my only suggestion is to leave the kids at home. The food is overpriced, the menu is limited, dish ware was not what I would call sparkling, the meals were not presented at the same time and when each arrived they were not hot (lukewarm) and the worst, I found a piece of plastic wrap in my potatoes. The place was not at all crowded so there really was no excuse for some of this. Needless to say, that ended it for me. Rightfully so, I was not charged for my meal and given a $40 return voucher which I will not use. I wish I could say something positive given I was so looking forward to trying this restaurant. Our server Kyle had an infectious enthusiasm for the restaurant which elevated the experience. The food was delicious. We tried the Haloumi appetizer. The cheese has a unique texture and delicious flavors. The fresh whole snapper special was roasted and served with brussel sprouts. The fish was seasoned well and cooked to moist perfection. Dined this past Wednesday, only 2 other tables occupied. Ordered burrata as an appetizer, it was good. The entree was another story. I was happy to see swordfish on the menu and was looking forward to a nice swordfish steak. I am not sure what I was served but it was terrible. It looked like a thin chicken cutlet served on a wooden skewer, dry and tasted funny, nothing like swordfish. I couldn't even eat it all, just wasn't right. I was told by our waitress that that is how they serve it. Oh well, I definitely won't be returning there or referring people either. Huge disappointment. read more

First time visiting here tonight and we were super pleased. The place is located on 109 at the Marina, not far from that 'really crowded place'. A part of Kara Restaurant Group, while not 'fancy' Brine is nicely decorated and comfortable with tables inside and out. The fare is Greek-ish, but not all-in on that. Our meal consisted of a yellowfin tuna crudo, that was delicious with its pickled onions and micro Greens. Fish was fresh and flavors on point. We also had the Octopus, nicely grilled on a bed of pillowy skordalia. We also had the halloumi, served with a delicious apple accompaniment. Final starter was the bread and butter, and while some might balk at the $5 for bread--suffice to say, it was super good and well worth it. With all those starters, my wife and I split a pasta entree, which was orecchiette with mushrooms and a flavorful tomato Demi. We were stuffed, but the chocolate peanut butter 'lasagna' sounded too good not to try...I would tell you how it was, except we were too full and took it to go. While I had read reviews that said portions were small--we found them robust. Server and service was very good, and BYO always a plus!!! We will surely be back!! Dined at this place on August 27 Sunday morning at around 9. Food was ok but Service was terrible because of the guy who "served" us. All other servers waiting on other tables seemed great. First thing he said to us was "I am going to ask you to speak up." When we asked him to clarify something on the menu, he said "additional 50cents will be charged to every additions you add, LIKE I TOLD YOU BEFORE." When I asked him if he could bring our food as it gets ready instead of waiting for all of our orders to be ready and bring them all together, he said in snarky tone "that's what I do always~~~ " only times I saw him at our table was when we placed the order and when he brought us the check when we weren't even half way through with our meal. Absolute disgrace to this restaurant. Only reason why I left a decent tip was because it seemed like tips were shared by all staff. He was Awful, rude, and arrogant, for the lack of better words to describe his "You are not welcomed here" attitude. Next time just say it. No need to ruin someone's breakfast, and more importantly someone's vacation. read more

Just had a wonderful meal at Brine. We hadn't been to a BYOB spot in a long time but it's a great concept. People brought in lots of different types of drinks. Katie took great care of us with suggestions and we loved all we ordered. The Greek salad was very fresh and plenty for 2. The bread is $5 and worth every cent with a brilliant presentation of butter, roasted garlic and amazing homemade bread. She mentioned they have a pastry chef (few places do anymore I think) so we saved room for dessert. Our entrees (both pasta) were huge and delicious. But of course we needed dessert when we knew they were made in house. There were three options but we went with the carrot cake-moist, flavorful and delicious and chocolate "lasagna" which was layered Oreos, peanut butter mousse, ganache and whipped cream. We dined at Byrne BYOB for Mother's Day & what a perfect choice it was! We were greeted by the lovely hostess Tori and promptly seated. Our server Kyle greeted us and answered our questions regarding several of the menu options. Tori circled back to open and pour our wine and just made us feel very welcome & comfortable. We decided on the Watermelon, Feta & Tomato appetizer, and the Scallop appetizer which were both beautifully presented & delicious! For entrees, we selected the Boneless Short-rib, Yellow Fin Tuna and Butcher Block Bolognese that were presented to the table by none other than Executive Chef Joe! We were told all the recipes were Chef Joe's creations and they were all outstanding! To top off the evening we shared a special dessert of flourless chocolate cake & cheesecake surrounded with fresh berries and a dollop of whipped cream... PURE HEAVEN! The atmosphere at Byrne is class, but not pretentious, with soft lighting and beautiful table settings. The staff is professional yet very friendly. Went here on a girls night last night and we had a fabulous experience. Our waiter Dylan was so great, very attentive and explained everything to us with any questions we had. The inside area had a nice ambiance to it and was newly decorated. Our food was also amazing so many options- we will be back. I had the pork belly and stir fry, and my mom had the wtf salad and the short ribs. Save room for dessert as well the carrot cake was also yummy.
