Softshell crab pasta

We've been to Peter shields several times and it's one of our favorite special restaurant so we are down in the cape May area. It is difficult to make reservations because the place is often very busy so you need to make them in advance, especially if you want to get a decent time. There is no parking, but we had no trouble finding parking on the street for our 715 reservation. The place is very romantic and fancy and I like that they encourage dressy clothes. Service is always outstanding and the menu rotates, depending on the season with the freshest and best ingredients. Everything that we've ever had, there has been delicious and we cannot rave enough about this special restaurant.

Peter Shields is the epitome of fine dining! The elegance is felt as soon as you walk up the outside stairs & continues all the way through as you enter. All the servers & staff were completely accommodating. My friends & I were in Cape May for a week long vacation in July & this had been on our radar since booking the trip. PS exceeded all our expectations, food & presentation were all spot on. TBH we had the most fun with the piano player, you could text him any & all of your requests & we happily waited for our song to come up, he was fantastic.

Back for our 28th Wedding Anniversary... no longer BYOB but the menu remains amazing, atmosphere perfect, service exemplary, and just perfect for a special occasion. Thanks Dillon for the amazing service and experience!!

The service is spectacular. The Manger Sean was delightful and very accommodating. The lobster bisque was delicious, the sea bass en papillote was as well. The decor is elegant. This is a very romantic restaurant. Definitely make a reservation.

We reserve this restaurant for special occasions due to the price and the amount of food we eat when we are here! Much appreciated this first trip during which we were able to get cocktails with dinner! Service and food and ambiance are always on point. Love the piano player and his text request option!

An absolute gem of a restaurant with some haunting history.. We had a fantastic evening here for dinner. The bread service was unique; offering three different types of warm dinner rolls. The lobster bisque is a must -- this bisque was much lighter than every other bisque I've ever had. It's still cream-based, but it was just delicate without compromising depth of flavor. The deliver eggs were also unique and are arguably the best deviled eggs I've ever had (which surprisingly is a fair amount of deviled eggs). Lastly, the filet: it was prepared well and accompanied by three delicate mushroom ravioli alongside a demi glacé.

Pork chop

While vacationing in Ocean City, NJ, my wife and I nipped out for dinner at Peter Shields. In short: one of the best. We started off sharing a yellowtail crudo, one of my favorite fish from our local sushi haunt; this dish arrived garnished with cucumber and watermelon, a heretofore untasted melange of flavors for this diner. We also split blue point oysters on the half shell, which were plump and briny. I ordered a bone-in pork chop, which our server, Chris, was quick to point out was a pounded and fried dish; this was not necessarily my preference nor the dish I'd imagined in my mind based on the menu, but I readily agreed to this preparation. It was, in turn, excellent. The pork was pounded flat and dredged in breadcrumbs, and pan fried until crispy, with no residual oil on the surface. Topped Milanese style with greens and tomatoes would have been satisfying, but the lily was gilded with some chunks of meat and mozzarella. It was excellent and I'd order it again in a heartbeat. My wife was craving a steak, and she got the filet. It was perfectly cooked to medium rare, as requested, and beautifully served. For dessert, they offered a steamed caramel cake a la mode, which we split and adored. The dessert was swimming in a pool of molten caramel and was delicious and the perfect size to split. It was a whimsical nod to the classic caramel sundae, with the cake dressing the dish up to something elegant. Peter Shields is a BYOB, but you can order bottles from the nearby Cape May Winery, which they should advertise more. Chris, our server, was prompt, attentive, informative, and polite.

Peter Shields Inn & Restaurant is fantastic! The service was top notch! (Believe our waiter was named chris, hes amazing). Had to wait a bit for a seat but was well worth it. The food was fresh, colorful, and came out hot. Cannot wait to go back again!

Breathtaking! Food, ambiance, service, location...all over the top amazing! This is a very special place...arguably the best restaurant and b&b in all of Cape May. Snag one of the seven rooms if you can. Walk across the street and stumble onto the beach. Watch dolphins. Come back for tea or happy hour. Relax. Have dinner on the porch then enjoy a bottle of wine beside the fire pit. .... Can't wait to go back.

I'm wearing a collared shirt and dress shoes for dinner this weekend. Are jeans acceptable?

Yes. My husband refuses to wear dress pants ever and we go there often in jeans and nice shirts.

It's more like a gymnasium than anything. One set of bathrooms, immediately inside the entrance. Not nearly enough, and only one set of double doors when the event ended for exit for 600 people, all leaving at once. No concession stand at all. Unless you count the guy selling bottles of water in a small refrigerator at the entrance. Not that I wanted anything, but this place is stripped bare of anything. And it's NEW! I've seen better looking fire station halls for events. Cape May should ask for their money back from whoever designed this place. I'm surprised it doesn't have pull out bleachers to sit on........It's just an awful place in my opinion.

We were extremely disappointed with the Christmas walking tour. We were told to come anytime after…read more530 and that it was a walking tour. We got there at 630 to find out we only had until 730pm to do the tour. Furthermore, we were told only 5 homes were open on the night of our tour, and that only *2* of them were actually walking distance, in opposite directions. We had driven around for 20 minutes looking for parking for our group with 2 cars and 3 strollers, so there was no chance we were going to be able to load up to drive to another home, because the starting point was in Cape May Proper on the Washington Mall. The first house we went to was not Victorian, it was very very modern and newly redone, and decorated for the NBA because the owner became an NBA player, which was great- but not festive in the least. At that point we didn't have time to trek the opposite direction for house #2. The entire trip was a bust. We came to town for this tour which was advertised as walking tour of Cape May *Victorian* homes decorated for Christmas. We got none of the things advertised and paid $350 for the 8 tickets. The worst part is when I called to explain the chain of unfortunate events, saying 4 of us will definitely try another tour in the future but that this was not what we paid for, the director of MAC events, Janice, argued on the phone with me for 5 minutes over and over again. I kept explaining our experience above and she just kept arguing about what the tour is supposed to be- not what we received. I said we need a refund in order to give future tours a try. She finally relented and agreed to a refund, and when I thanked her she hung up on me- clearly a reflection of how they value the customer experience at MAC. Regardless of her unprofessional behavior, we will give a different tour another try. We will definitely be cautious in trying future tours but would never recommend the Christmas walking tour one to anyone.

The guide was extremely knowledgeable & kudos to the driver, CM is rich in history & there were plenty of great stories told. We took the basic show us all around CM tour & tell us about the homes & characters that lived here many moons ago. The homes are really gorgeous to look at & since this was only day 2 of our vaca we could appreciate it all the more later on during the week while walking. A thoroughly enjoyable way to learn the history of CM, highly recommend & reasonable price per ticket.

What a beautiful mansion with impeccable grounds & an inviting porch to lounge around on! When selecting your room, if the room is not on the first floor, note that the stairs are quite steep & can be a little difficult to navigate if you are carrying a lot of things or wearing high heels! We stayed in the famous Red Room on the second floor, room 3. It was a lovely room with very high ceiling & a very unusual painting. The bed was very comfortable & I liked that we could control the temperature in our room. The sink for the bathroom is outside the bathroom with hardly any countertop just so you know. Excellent breakfast - you do have to make your selection the night before which is a little difficult since sometimes I want something different when I wake up. food was very good & excellent service. I think a fire pit would be a great thing to add to the property. Other than that, we had an enjoyable experience & I greatly recommend this place!

In our most recent visit we observed the following: 1. Our shower was not as clean as it should be. The grout was black in some areas. 2. There were quite a few areas below the roofline that had rotted wood. 3. Rotted wood was also noticed on the bottom of the siding near the foundation. 4. We found the yellow paint on part of the building vs. the faded paint on the remainder of the building In desperate need of a new paint job. 5. There are missing roof tiles. 6. The gardens that were once beautiful were full of weeds and dried up flowers. It seems that management is restricting watering of the flowers. 7. The outside shower was filthy, it was smelly and the mold was disgusting in the once beautiful shower. 8. The breakfast was not very good and the cook got the order wrong. 9. The lighting that once lit the outline of the buildings are no longer used in the evening. It appears that the owner lost interest in this property and is probably going to sell it. To run it into the ground and in doing so alienating many loyal customers is not just bad business it's a slap in the face to the many families who year after year support this business I am being generous when I say this is a 3 star hotel at best Sorry to say it but we will return.
