The food was not good. Tĥis restaurant is very small inside. It's expensive for what you get. The food court downtown is much better. The place was clean inside. This is probably because people do not eat here. The meat is very dry, and the sides have no flavor. I would ax them to donate the food. The portions of the plates don't fit the price. The food appears to be reheated and not freshly cooked the day of. The customer service lacks a welcoming smile, does not make you feel welcomed and no enthusiasm. I met Grams a long time ago. He was kind and sat with me and my Mom and talked with us and we had many laugh out loud moments. Benita is not a people person this is his daughter. I got discouraged on going back because the last time I got something to eat from there to go it was thrown on the to go plate very sloppy and presentation and it tastes like it was heated up. Today looking through DoorDash I decided BBQ sounded amazing. Today, was my first order from Gram's, Pulled Pork, Pork Ribs with Macaroni and cheese. Oh my word, why did I wait so long? The rib meat just melts in your mouth, the pulled pork has so much flavor and I can't say enough about the macaroni and cheese, but absolutely amazing. I could make this my weekly order. I had been here in ten years ago while serving jury duty and was at the Riverside Convention Center close by so I decided to stop in for some BBQ at 11:30 am on a weekday. There were 3 people ahead of me in line when I arrived and nobody was seated. I reviewed the overhead menu. Most menu items had prices identified and some did not. As I approached the register I asked for pricing. She gave the pricing which was higher than expected. I ordered the two meat combo with spare ribs and brisket with fries and BBQ beans (with soda) as the sides and a brisket plate with collard greens and yams as the sides (with water). The gal at the register was so nice. At that moment when I was paying ($47), the cook comes up from the kitchen and tells the cashier that the tickets were not being electronically sent back to the kitchen. She had to print the four tickets manually to send them back to the kitchen. I chose to sit outside because the restaurant set-up promotes asses-in- the-back-of-heads arrangement where the line buts up against the tables. After 15 minutes, nobody had food and the line was building. After 20 minutes, food started coming out in the wrong order. Six orders were filled before mine. As fourth in line, I was served seventh so it was chaos inside with everybody bitching about how long it was taking and the the order of food delievred was incorrect. One lady's food was prepared twice. I finally got my food after 30 minutes. The plates were smaller than I expected for the price. The spare ribs had good flavor. The sauce was strong, which is fine, but I typically get concerned when I can't taste the smoke flavor of the meat because of the sauce. In this case, I could still taste the smoke flavor, which was good. The brisket looked and tasted like roast beef. It was thinly sliced with no noticeable fat layer or presence of bark on the outside. The fries, BBQ beans, collard greens and yams were all OK. The cornbread was dry as hell and completely crumbled when handled. The bottom line: Two stars! OK food, high prices, friendly service but bad service. Without the kitchen ticket issues this may have been a three star experience but no better. read more

I've had my share of excellent ones in the city and it's a metric that may be a bit unfair to judge California po'boys. That said, I was pleasantly surprised. Went to Gram's on August 25 and ordered the red snapper lunch. The lunch includes one side. Tried the Mac& cheese (would not recommend). I ended up with the fries. My food came out and I opened my container to one piece of fish that had been cut up into three nuggets of fish that they are passing off as three pieces of fish. I buy snapper all the time and I know what a filet of snapper is. This was DEFINITELY one piece cut up into three sections. I was highly disappointed because I paid $14 for 3 tibblets and fries. When I complained, I was told "hey that's the way it's prepared in the am and she couldn't do anything about it". She did suggest I call and talk to the owner but she didn't think it would change. What soul food place does sell Mac n cheese after 10pm? Why are you even open late hours then??? My first time visiting this place. We arrived at Grams at 9:52pm. We stood in line, patiently looking at the menu, as the large group in front us took forever to order. They were indecisive and the cashier was chatty with them. By the time we got to the register, it was 10:04pm and the cashier informed us they are no longer serving the regular menu and that we would have to order off the Late Night Menu. We explained that we've been waiting in line for over 10 minutes. We asked to speak the manager and he was no help. He basically said oh well. We proceeded to order since we drove from Ontario. The Late Menu is basically nothing but chicken, waffles and fries. So we went ahead and order the chicken and waffles. The description said 4 wings and 2 waffles. When the meal came is was 2 wings, cut in half. The waffle batter has way to much cinnamon. I felt like I was literally eating a Cinnabon. The chicken tasted ok.
