They have a little food area in the back of the store, near the pan dulce, where they have tamales ready and waiting in steamers. You need to go to the register first and let them know how many and which kind of tamales you want, and they'll get them for you. I bought a dozen-and-a-half of the pork with red chile tamales, and they are very good! In fact, I'm eating one right now as I type this review! The tamales have the perfect proportion of masa to meat, and they are cooked all the way through and not at all gummy, like some tamales can get when they're not cooked properly. They have other tamales besides pork, but I was only interested in pork when I visited, so I can't tell you for sure what other kinds they have. This is also a grocery store, so there are lots of packaged Mexican foods here, as well as a small panderia with some bolillos and a selection of pan dulce. This looks to be a great place to find Mexican candy (Lucas, Tajin, tamarindo candy, those little disks of chalky peanut butter with the picture of the abuelita on them, etc.), as I saw a lot of different candies.

I was cravaing ice…read morecream and we had some time to kill so I made my bf pull over to get ice cream at this random Yelp find about 5 minutes from where we were when I suddenly desired ice cream. Now... I took 8 years of Spanish but my brain went haywire and I couldn't say a single word of Spanish. That was a problem as everyone spoke Spanish. And not everyone spoke English. That's not a problem, of course. I should have been more prepared but my big dumb dumb brain failed me. There are at least two places to order ice cream inside. We got ice cream from the stand right by the entrance. That was the wrong one as I had wanted to try the stand with the unique flavors like corn and horchata. The one we went to had like a dozen basic flavors and milkshakes. Do a little bit of wandering inside if you want to find the stand with the unique flavors. There are dozens of other stalls inside, selling all sorts of stuff from cheap garbage to even dishwashers and hot tubs! We didn't see what the food trucks outside had. My bf got 2 scoops of ice cream ($5.50) and I panicked ordered a massive size of an oreo milkshake ($8.75 and 80000 calories). It was okay. Not as good as a DQ Blizzard which is top tier in the oreo mix em up game. Prices are barely on anything so make sure to brush up on your basic Spanish. As for the bathroom, it was messy, busy, and well worn. Also, parking was near impossible and potholes are abundant. Yikes. I am glad we tried this interesting experience, but I don't think I will ever go back.

I have found the place to get my Christmas tamales! It's Tienda Morelos on Michigan Avenue. This…read moreone is called Tienda Morelos 6, because apparently there are at least five other Tienda Morelos in Indy? That's a lot of Tienda Morelos. You see: Tamales are very important to me -- they are a part of my DNA. So finding great tamales in Indy is very exciting, indeed. I happened upon Tienda Morelos because I was visiting a restaurant next door to this one. I popped in and found an amazing (although small) store that sells tamales and also pan dulce, fresh produce, chicharrones, packaged foods and more. All of the signs are in Spanish and everyone speaks Spanish, which is a great sign when you're looking for great Mexican food. The best tamales come from places where the people selling the tamales don't speak English, I've found. To buy the tamales, you need to pay at the front register first. You tell them how many tamales you want, and then you pay for that number. They give you a little slip of paper with the number of tamales you paid for. Then, you take your piece of paper to the tamale counter, and you pick which flavor of tamale you want, and the quantity. I got one pork and one chicken. They were both amazing: lots of masa but also lots of juicy meat. Not too much sauce, but also not dry. These are the best tamales I've eaten in Indianapolis so far. Tamales are just a small portion of the offerings at Tienda Morelos. They have a full panaderia in the store, plus a carniceria and other grocery items. The place is super small and slightly cramped, but the people are friendly and helpful, so it's a nice little place to shop after you've loaded up on tamales.

The overall experience has been positive for me while shopping here. The sales and service representatives are all friendly and helpful, and the center is well-maintained and clean. They even have umbrellas available for use via the honor system, on rainy days. I like that there are high-end options mingled with basic options as well.

A few personal favorites: Athletic Annex, Bath and Body Works, Dry Goods, Dick's Sporting Goods, DSW, lululemon, Old Navy and Warby Parker. Not to mention, the dining options like Cafe Patachou, Upland Brewing, and more! Clay Terrace always has great events and programming, too - from summer concerts to trick-or-treating and visits with Santa. My only complaint is parking. There is limited - and highly coveted - parking in front of the stores, and most often you'll need to park in the larger lots in the back. On a busy weekend or during the holidays, it can get especially busy.

Within one complex, you've got the Center for the Performing Arts, Carmel Farmer's Market, Christkindlmarkt (during the holidays), Hotel Carmichael, and a number of other retail options, restaurants, and entertainment options. It's all, quite literally, within walking distance (well, unless you're like me and don't have feet. But, you know what I mean). Because this is a central area, a good number of the Carmel festivals will happen around here. You've also got live music and theater (including Civic Theater also housed within this complex). Accessibility is pretty strong since so much of this area is new. I've had my quibbles with accessibility involving the Center for the Performing Arts, though in talking to current Mayor Sue Finkam there's a definite effort to go beyond ADA and to truly become more accessible. Free parking is abundant in this area and the arts district is about 1/2 mile north. Dining options include Aroma Experience, Divvy, The Old Spaghetti Factory, The Cake Bake Shop, Eggshell Bistro, Lone Pine, Graeter's Ice Cream, and others within walking distance. Retail options include Kits & Kaboodle (a great toy shop), 317Home, A.D.A. Vintage, Addendum, Baseline Social, and a host of others. I will note that most of these shops lean toward the more premium experience. There's definitely no Dollar General to be found here. There's definitely a lot to offer here and it's nearly always crowded. I also like that the website will tell you which stores are closed on bad weather days. As accessibility continues to improve, I may very well move this up to a 5-star experience. For now, it's a definite 4-star experience and it's definitely a place I can easily spend the day once I arrive and also enjoy some time on the Monon.

I thought it would be like a Barton's Discount or Falling Prices store. It's not. The only items in American Discount I saw were for like if you were remodeling your home. They had amazing prices! IF that's what you are looking for. That's what they have. For me, I was really disappointed that it was just tile, flooring, roofing, plumbing, toilets, cabinets, and hella more remodeling tools, items, and stuff I can't even begin to know what it's used for. Another thing is, the property is sketch. Like, be careful driving back there that you don't pop a tire, run over trash, or get attacked by something living in the trash pile. Also watch your step because the "stairs" lip is higher than the other part. If you're a construction or remodel person you should absolutely check this place out. I'm a girly girl who likes to shop and a good bargain. It just wasn't my vibe.
