half and Half scallops and belly clams with onion rings

I want to provide an update, as it's been several years since my initial review. Well, 13 to be exact. Governor's Restaurant and Bakery in Lewiston was a god send during Covid when everything was shutting down. They quickly jumped on the various food delivery options, you can download to your phone, and they became my go-to. I was ordering once or twice a week, in some cases every other week. The food was just as good after taking 10-15 minutes of delivery time. As you can see by several of my photos, you still got hefty portions and I was happy with every single menu item I tried. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes, club sandwich and fries, buffalo tenders, turkey dinner, steak tips, side salad and much more. They have come along way, but their willingness to jump into the food delivery arena made them a staple and go-to for several families in the area.

had a great time at governors tonight for my first time in Lewiston. My daughter loved the train and the food was exceptional our server was a young blond girl she was super nice and was great at making sure we had everything we needed. The manager a young man was super nice to and checked on us and others around us and was helping ours and other servers when it was busy it's very nice to see the younger generation isn't completely crap. Kudos to him and all the servers definitely will be back

Desserts!

Perfect place to stop! Family heading to Sugarloaf for ski trip. It was a snowing Sunday and we were looking for a place for lunch but most places were closed. Fortunately this place was open. Patrick was the only server and he was great! Friendly, funny and helpful. Food was delicious! Maple cheese curds were amazing! Highly recommend this place. Can't wait to enjoy the pie slices we got to go later tonight

This place is the most toxic place to work at the place is very unsanitary and has water dripping in the kitchen onto your food when being served . The attitude of the wait staff is not very inviting they treat you like a number and just want you to leave some call you a nursing home level customers. At times nobody is wearing gloves when handling your food out back . There are mice running around the dining room and this has been going on for sometime the place is old and disgusting and the manager that rented a place is not a very nice person she hollers and screams at you it waves her hands in front of your face like she's out of control . I think this person should probably retire from Governors and give somebody else a chance that could get some respect from their co-workers the husband is not any better he lies to you and promise you things when hiring and then does just the opposite and when you question it you're in trouble . There has also been theft reported there and nothing is done about it except you get in trouble . This place is definitely backwards definitely backwards . Also the dishes are quite dirty and quite stained and they don't seem to care you get black on your plates when you get your food this place is crazy dirty think twice about going here I would go to Applebee's instead any place called Governor's

There is a model train that periodically travels around the inside of the restaurant (a Governor's trademark)

We used to go to the Governor's Restaurant long ago when they were in the Biddeford area (that one closed long ago). Glad to see this one is still around (for 59 years). Casual setting, friendly staff, good food at a good price. Great looking burgers. We got great looking desserts made on site (but took home because we were too full to eat them). I got my usual seafood platter. Allows me to compare different restaurants on same produce (that and I like seafood). This was top-notch with great and huge scallops, tender crispy shrimp, delicious fish (and I am not a fish fan) and tasty fried clams. While not the absolute best seafood platter I rounded up due to the friendly staff and reasonable prices.

It's been awhile since I've been to a Governor's restaurant and its about the same. Portions and prices compatible to other places. Service about the same. Atmosphere, the same. I did however, forgot about their bakery. They make allot of desserts and rolls. Great to stop by and just buy something from their bakery, if you're not looking for a place to eat. Overall, they're a decent place to grab a bite.

Maple chicken poutine (sans cheese)

This place is definitely unassuming but the food we got sure was yummy. I was too stuffed after my meal, but I had my eye on that peanut butter pie as I waited to be seated! We shared some maple chicken poutine-my first time trying poutine ever! My cousin hates cheese so we got it without (which broke my cheese lovin' heart) but it was still super yummy with sweet potato waffle fries, fried chicken pieces & sweet maple sauce on top. I feel like I lucked out with my dinner, it was that good. I got the fried haddock sandwich and haddock chowder combo, omg. The chowder is delicious & rich & creamy, I loved it. The sandwich was huge! It had a whole fish worth of filet fried & on that bun, it was crazy! I've never seen that done before, but I loved it. Totally recommend what I ate!

Do they have a lobster chicken breakfast?

Hi Sean - sorry we're just getting back to you. We don't have a specific Lobster Chicken Breakfast, but we could probably do something custom for you. Let our Manager know what you are looking for and they can let you know what we can do for you.

He knew I loved chocolate eclairs, and told me this is the spot to go! His words and enthusiasm about this bakery did not disappoint! I bought one eclair and took a bite of it in the car and had to run back in to buy one more for the road for when I got home later. It was perfect. I will have to go back and try some other desserts or have him bring them to me next time he's down my neck of the woods. They have a great wide range of desserts to choose from and I guarantee you will be satisfied.

They have a handful of flavors from classic (chocolate cake and vanilla frosting, maple, chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting, and vanilla with vanilla frosting). While they sell at other stores in the area I highly recommend dropping in to meet and interact with the folks that make the magic happy. Don't worry if you don't live nearby - you can order online for delivery all over the country. Also they freeze well and let me tell you they are terrific heated up in the microwave. If you do go in person definitely take advantage of their specials. Just call ahead to see what their deals are. We scored a fab steal with a buy one get one special. And don't forget to tip the staff, they work super hard to make a classically delicious Northeastern delight.

We went with a non-traditional theme which included cupcakes a wedding topper cake for the dessert. We chose Grant's Bakery to do the topper cake and worked with Gary, one of their cake makers. Gary walked us through their process, portfolio and what options were available to us. He understood our theme and produced a white and gold themed topper cake which was spot on. My wife LOVED it and it. Unfortunately my wife and I were not able to have the cake for our wedding reception as we had to cancel due to a major incident impacting several of our Maine towns, but Gary was patient and willing to still make the cake despite their store being shut down for 2-3 days due to the incident. We pushed the due date for the cake to be ready, out a few days and when my wife picked it up, she LOVED it and complimented him several times on how he hit the theme with colors and the simplistic design. We were not looking for a large elaborate cake and despite the simple design, it exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend Grant's Bakery for your wedding cake needs!

SPüN does a lot of variety of custom order cakes and they're so nicely done. My first opportunity was my SO had actually ordered a green tea cake -- it was so good I couldn't stop shoveling the buttercream into my mouth. This year I opted for a Boston cream pic cupcake selection for the Boston cream pie lover in my life. The inside was a yellow cake base with the standard Boston cream in the middle and a hardened chocolate shell over cream on top. I made a special request for some lettering and they came packaged in a box that allowed for complete stability of the cakes. I accidentally left them out in a cold area prior to serving but they turned out totally fine! I would have normally done a regular Boston cream pie but circumstances made cupcakes an easier option. Will be trying the full cake next time. Definitely recommend if you're in the area -- ordering, customizing, payment, and pick up were all insanely easy.

THESE ARE THE BEST CINNAMON ROLLS I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE (So please ignore anything I've said stating otherwise that was written before this review was.) I had been warned that these were everything and more, and that still did not prepare me for how epic they were. They're the perfect balance of both dense and yet they melt-in-your-mouth; the "icing" (whatever notion you have of icing, throw it away because that's not what this is but a word hasn't been invented yet for whatever is going on with these buns) is sticky and creamy and has a little hint of citrus. And I am not sure I can never eat another cinnamon roll again, because these have spoiled me forever (I was swooning so much the first time we had them that my partner let me finish his as well!). Also: their frittata? I haven't had anything that good since living in Spain. Big, filling wedges of layered egg, potato, onion, and veggies. I'm hoping this will always be available vegetarian! Also; I ate it cold. And with my hands like it was a slice of pizza. That's the kind of monster I am, but it worked out deliciously! Spün you have IMMEDIATELY become one of my favorite food places in all of Maine. Can I make my holiday order for a half dozen cinnamon rolls and veggie frittata now?!
