this was my 1st time eating there because I heard so much about it. I ordered the Mandarin Chicken. It came out barely 5 mintues after I ordered it. All the food was served at room temperature, not even warm. The egg roll was cold and soggy, the chicken was cold and soggy, the fried rice was full of onions, and the gravy on the chicken was a big lump. My body started to reject it after I took my 2nd bite. I had a gag reflex. TO TOP IT OFF THEY CHARGE AN EXTRA DOLLAR IF YOU USE YOUR CREDIT CARD. THIS IS DONE AT ALL OF THE CHINESE RESTUARANTS IN HOUMA LA AS I UNDERSTAND. DON WASTE YOUR MONEY. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a meal from here recently! It's a very small little Chinese restaurant well hidden off St. Charles St. , if you don't know where to look to find it you probably won't, there's no sign or anything on the outside evening hinting that this place exists , it looks like a run down building on the outside, but the inside is quite nice with friendly staff and a a few tables with a nice size tv to watch while eating or waiting on your meal to go! They even have these little plastic to go containers if you order take out that you can bring home and are microwaveable and pretty much spill and leak proof, but the best thing about this place is the Food! Our meal was cooked fresh, our broccoli was steamed separately and you can actually see the egg in the fried rice! This has got to be the freshest tasting Chinese Food I've ever eaten, when you take a bite you can just taste the difference, all fresh ingredients and well made! It's a little more pricey than the other restaurants I've eaten at , over $14 a take out plate, but like they say , you get what you pay for, And this place is definitely worth the extra change! It's consistent, friendly, cheap, and pretty yummy! Would have given them a 5th star, but the eating area is in serious need of a makeover, not that I mind that much. It's basic Chinese food, but well done. The Singapore Mei Fun noodles are a new fav. We usually get the General Tso's chicken, house fried rice and all the soups. read more

I found a hair in my food. The waitress argued with me and said it wasn't and that it was something else. It was clearly that it was some type of hair. She even had the same type of hair all over her shirt and it wasn't even the same color hair of her hair. And after I pointed it out it was all over her shirt she repeatedly argued with me that it wasn't hair. I would never step foot in this place again. read more

I could eat Chinese food probably 2-3 times a week & never tire of it. I have been here 3 times. The staff is always extremely friendly & attentive. Everything that I can see in the seating area is clean & organized. I am giving them 3 stars, not because the food is bad, but because the food is so bland. I love fried rice, but it sits on your plate so light in color, it most definitely does not touch a wok. In my opinion, fried rice needs that browned, somewhat charred flavor that comes from a good toss in a hot wok. I also am a big fan of won ton soup. Here, there is no punch of flavor what so ever. The crab rangoons also leave alot to be desired. I have given the Gourmet House three tries to redeem themselves somehow. I do not plan to return read more

I wanted to give this place a good rating as the food was decent for the area, but the service and management is atrocious! When sitting down to order we were greeted by a roach first. Yeah not a good start! The waitress (a chubby white girl) who claimed it was her first day on the job, I believe it from her service, was the second to greet us. I ordered tea to drink. She brought out a glass full of a clear liquid and claimed it was the tea that she made herself. I changed my drink to a soda immediately. She took our order and I added a wonton soup to my meal. The order took nearly 40 mins before it finally came out, no soup in sight. The food was decent compared to other choices in my are so I can't complain there. We asked for the check after we finished our meal.. this was another 20 min wait. At the counter I told her about the soup and she blamed the manager for not bringing it out.. the manager barely spoke English so I couldn't get much out of her outside of blowing me off and telling the waitress to take the soup off my order. The server was so rude to me and very pissed off that I complained about her service. She rolled her eyes several times. Needless to say I will not be back. read more

We have lived in Houma for 3 years and each time we tried a Chinese restaurant it was terrible! I saw this place had one review with 5 stars and convinced hubby to try one more. The place itself is nothing to look at a couple tables , but the take out was really good! Steamed dumplings and the Rangoon were excellent and I had Szechwan chicken. Will definitely go back again! We went to the West Side restaurant on St. Charles. ( apparently there is one on east side also) . Give it a try. I'm not one for the multitude of buffets here because there's nothing much in the way of Chinese food. This food was not greasy and very flavorful! Will definitely go back. This is a review for the Eastside Gourmet Kitchen on Prospect, although I'm willing to bet that the other location is also great. No buffet, no fancy decor, but if you are looking for fresh, hot, delicious Chinese food at a very reasonable price served by a lovely, friendly staff, THIS is your place. My husband and I eat here regularly and have tried many many of the dishes on the menu... Which has taken quite awhile, as the menu is pretty full! We have never had a "stinker"! Definitely high quality food and always very clean. There's no need to go across town for dried-out buffet food or sit in a stinky, dirty dark restaurant. Go to Gourmet House... Had take-out night before last. 1 order of Mandarin Chicken and 1 order of Lemon Chicken. Both were good enough. Prefer Mandarin Chicken at Hong Kong. Our orders at the West Side (St. Charles St) Gourmet House Restarant included Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll. We will likely try it again but will try different dishes. This is honestly the best 10 minute wait of my life. I've been eating at this establishment for around 6 years, and not once can I recall having a bad meal. My go to order is the boneless spare ribs combo. The spare ribs are cooked to perfection while smeared in a sauce that I can't quite grasp with my tastebuds but is simply awe-inspiring. Now we get to the backbone of the combo, the fried rice. The rice is so perfect that I can't even think of words to describe the taste and texture. To top it all off the egg roll is one in million. Wait...I take that back it's one in a BILLION! This restaurant has changed containers. The portions have been cut almost in half. We ordered a shrimp dish and paid an additional $2/mean for extra shrimp. We got a total of 6 per dish. So if we would have not paid the additional? We thought it was a mistake so we ordered again. So we are now rating this restaurant as poor. We have food delivered on a regular basis. Who serves Chinese food without soy sauce? We even bought some for the house because after asking, they still would not include it. So in my opinion they are cutting corners.
