I selected this restaurant as a surprise for my novia on Valentine's Day. I was in Mexico City for customer meetings and researched dozens of beautiful restaurants, each a legend in their own way, but something drew me to Gotan. I initially contacted them by e-mail and outlined my plan for the special surprise evening. Nothing can prepare you for the sensations which await you at Gotan. The customized menu created by the owners for our special evening was simply magnificent. Many more capable writers can describe the olfactory and gustatory sensations. I will only say that the combination of appetizers, salad, food, wine, and of course dessert rank in my top 10 dining experiences of all time (including Windows on the World (1999), Aubergine, Gary Denko, Spago and French Laundry).

One of the best places to eat in Mexico City!! The food was amazing!! You gotta try the raviolis and that pie-ish desert (cheesecake pie with a lemony twist). Vivi (the owner along with her husband ) is so nice and she treated us so great! You can't leave Mexico City without eating here!

The service was good, cozy ambiance and food was great. Guillermo, our waiter made the difference. His suggestions we're good and not too much. The meat came a little undercooked but was promptly fixed with no problem.

The host can speak English and was very friendly. Have different kinds of steaks, where are all really good!

Really good steak! Got medium rare ribs and it was juicy and well seasoned! The apples on the side add a good sweetness to the dish. Ribs for two was around $40. Super affordable!

Amazing meal. Don't pass it up.

Very nice staff. They don't have English menu and the staff explained the food to us. We ordered pasta and salad. They were really good.

I am obsessed. By sheer dumb luck, my better half and I happened upon this beacon in this night. We…read morewent for dinner and were given a full explanation of the menu upon ordering. The interior is classic BBQ joint and the staff were all incredibly friendly and they give you BIG cups with lots of ice- Classic 'Murica. We had ribs, pulled pork, baked beans, slaw, potato salad & cornbread (oink oink) and everything was perfect! You can add your own sauce to the meat (and it is warm!!) and the food we ordered was in combos, making it a great way to try multiple items from the menu. The food tasted just like I was in the South! I can't stop talking about this place. I am so happy they are in the neighborhood. The price is right, not cheap-cheap but definitely a good value and MILES better than a certain other area barbecue place that has fallen from my good graces (I'm looking at you 'red pig'). Whether you are a gringo that wants a meal that tastes like home or anyone who loves anything and everything barbecue- this is where you need to go.

Dry wings and hard brisket, mac & cheese is disgusting, and corn bread dry and tasting 100% like jalapeño. Wtf happened? I have no idea. Too bad it got Mexicanized.

We had also loved every bite. Ha. The tagliolini with lobster. Maybe the best lobster pasta we have ever had. Pasta al dente perfection, lobster cooked just right, not overcooked the way it usually is everywhere else. The tagliatelle with Italian sausage was lovely. Manila mango salad, perfect. The quail was an unexpected find and so good. Service top notch as you would expect from a Michelin spot. Whimsical little covered courtyard with gorgeous natural light. So intimate. We decided to try the restaurant. I've done quite a few Michelin or James Beard restaurants, and I must say the service was far from what it should be. They seemed annoyed and dismissive. The table next to us was talking how they had altitude sickness and took their water bottles out to take a sip. The staff rushed over and took the water away! Told them they could have it back after their meal. I've never seen or heard of such a thing. Wine list was subpar and was hoping to have more wines from vineyards in Mexico. We each got different dishes and didn't try each others. (As I'm plant based) We all three were terribly sick the same night on our second to last day of the trip. Yes, the restaurant is beautiful but I definitely think there's far better Michelin restaurants and Michelin mention restaurants in the area.
