We knew immediately we weren't the only ones with that idea. The place was busy, with a line of people putting their names down for a table. It definitely has that destination-restaurant energy. Once we were seated, we ordered several things to share. We tried a mix of fried bites, including croquetas, shrimp, and stuffed squash blossoms. The croquetas were crisp and rich, and the squash blossoms were one of the more interesting things on the table. We also ordered pizza. The crust had a nice char and chew, and the toppings were generous. I enjoyed it, although a couple of my coworkers were a little less enthusiastic. For me, the smaller plates stood out more. The room was lively, and the mix of vintage plates, copper-toned tables, and simple details gave the space a lot of personality. I also liked how naturally the menu lent itself to passing plates around and trying a little of everything. I'm glad we checked it out, especially because Lardo comes up often when people talk about eating in Mexico City. I'd happily come back and explore more of the smaller plates.

Our server was very pleasant, attentive and definitely made the night fun. I wanted to try the Sopa de Tortilla mostly because of the presentation - it was in this cool looking ceramic of a señorita skeleton figurine. The soup itself had fresh clean flavor to it. For the mains, we had the Enchiladas De Mole Negro, Tacos De Lechón, Filete Con Salsa De Chipotle and Pescado Tikin Xic. Everything was so tasty, definitely enjoyed our meal.

The Mexican hot chocolate was also prepared traditionally tableside, whipped up to order. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't very good. Although many reviews raved about the soup, the tortilla soup my husband makes is much better. The hot chocolate was very watery. And while we usually love tacos gobernador, the ones here were very dried out and flavorless. The best dish was definitely the guacamole, which was very fresh and good. We ordered some with chicharrones, and some with tiny dried grasshoppers on the side, which were actually pretty crunchy and tasty. Enjoyable experience, but not likely to return.
