As a local, we are always eager to try new restaurants in the gorge. Our chance came last night on our way back from Portland. We had our pooch with us so we settled on the side deck. There are two decks, the side deck has a peak at the Columbia River vs the Mountain View off the back deck. Drink choices are plentiful. We were not in the mood for beer so my hubby ordered the mojito, which was spectacular! I had a Pinot Gris equally good. We shared the peach salad which was very large and fresh. We enjoyed it. For dinner I had the pork belly sandwich and my hubby had the Cubano. Food selections were basically salads and sandwiches. Not a hugely inspired food menu. A few small plates of general fair including rosemary fries. Food was good, no wow factor. Overall 3 stars for these reasons; atmosphere is lacking. There were fire pits on both decks, it was a chilly night, why not light those babies!! Strange plastic chairs of varying primary colors with metal tables. Our food arrived on these tiny plates (can't remember but I think they were plastic, hard plastic in primary colors again). The sandwich literally flopped over the edges. I had a hard time keeping my food on the plate. There were some wood lounge chairs which I actually tried. I guess if you want to take a nap? Just plain weird. Gorges Beer missed the mark in the gorge. More a Vancouver, WA vibe rather than a gorge vibe. I felt like I was eating in an elementary school cafeteria with servers. For this price point, I expect more. I really wanted to like this place, but I doubt we will be back. read more

We will never eat at a QR only restaurant again. This was a first and last. It was very impersonal and the staff seemed like they would rather be anywhere but there. All the patrons seemed confused by it all and out of place. Very odd, cold and impersonal atmosphere. It took forever to get our lukewarm water and even longer to get our food. Once we got our food it took several more minutes to get utensils. As for the food: -hamburger lacked flavor -French fries were oily and soft, but did have good flavor once we added salt -Brussel sprouts were delicious -Risotto mushroom rice was very good and flavorful -Hot apple cider came with alcohol, which I did not order. The crème they put on top curdled in the drink. It was not good at all. Very disappointed and won't be back. read more

So to start off, the ambiance and environment was nice, the service was ok if not a bit of a mess. The wait times were ridiculous and their order system was utterly awful to use and confusing and on top of that the order of who got their food first seemed completely disorganized. I am pretty sure my order was wrong, but I ate it anyway as I was hungry after a long hike, while I got my food also my group had to wait an hour only to end up having one other person next to me get their food. My burger bun was like biting into a hard wafer. The flavor of the actual meat patty was mediocre at best. The fries were cold and I had to get new fries which were also ok at best. I am sorry to say I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was not great and the service seemed extremely disorganized. read more

I've been to a lot of breweries, but this is by far one of the best ones I've been to! The ambiance, beer, friendly staff, views and food all are a 10/10 for me. Basically turned away at the door last Sunday, all we wanted was a beer! We had driven all the way from Bend, and decided to pass Hood River because we've always enjoyed Gorges, the view and beer (and food). It was my hubby's birthday. We arrived around 3 and there were no people downstairs or the 2nd floor. A few people (maybe 8) on the top deck 3rd floor. We were happy and marched inside and were stopped right away stating that there was a 40min wait. We said we just wanted a beer and take it upstairs then, but she said NO, they were only seating upstairs and there was a wait. Not very friendly or accommodating. We had to drive back to Bend, before dark and didn't want to wait, so we went to Thunder Island Brewing instead, and treated well and had a beer and dinner with a view. The servers were friendly and the view is very nice upstairs , but the food was mediocre and expensive. Also , it took a very long time to get our meal . Finally , orders were only taken via their app -- making it really tricky to split the bill or get help or information. We came here after hiking eagle creek and it was the perfect post-hike stop. I got the sliders and the rosemary garlic fries and they were delish! You can order via QR code and the vibe inside is super fun. They have a shuffleboard table and three levels of seating. They're a brewery but they also have liquor so you can get a cocktail (which I opted for in an aperol spritz). The menu is small but everything we had was great. This is what we've been missing in the Gorge - a fun relaxed microbrewery at a stones throw of Beacon Rock, Angel's Rest, and all things gorge fun. We went straight to the rooftop and were given the "411" of their ordering system and lay of the land. We ordered both a beer flight and a pint and were impressed with both. The 3rd floor roof top was perfect on an August day and we could have easily had another round. We did not partake in any food - but we were jealous of everyone's lunches and snacks. The place is easy to find and I definitely think deserves a pit stop either "pre" or "post" Hood River. read more

We were staying the weekend in cascade Locks and were wanting to try something different then our usual spot, Thunder island brewery. Gorges hit the spot. 1. We didn't have to wait. We went straight to the third floor, found a spot with a beautiful view and started our order 2. I know the QR code isn't for everyone but I found it easy and efficient. Plus it told me in advance what they were out of (I guess they had had a busy weekend). 3. The decor is bright and inviting 4. Large space, beautiful view 6. Friendly staff. I believe it was the owner that brought our beers over and apologized for being out of one of the things we wanted. 7. Great food. We order the Wagyu hamburger and the peach mozzarella caprese salad. Both delicious. 8. PCT hazy was refreshing. Would order that again. I look forward to supporting this new restaurant on our next trip! read more

My son and I were having a little getaway in Cascade Locks and we love going to Thunder Mountain, but looked online at this place and saw it had an amazing 3rd floor patio. It was an absolutely BEAUTIFUL day, so we thought we would definitely want to try this out! Unfortunately, when we got there, the 3rd floor was closed due to staffing shortage. I totally get the staffing shortages with the uptick in COVID cases, but then why not move everything to the 3rd floor where it is amazing on a beautiful day? I saw 2 other parties come in for the 3rd floor and be super disappointed it was closed. So, we sat on the 2nd floor, which does not have a great view, and ordered on my phone. I'm not the hugest fan of that because I don't like to be on my phone at a restaurant, but it was fine. Our food came relatively quickly, but the server didn't ask if we needed anything else and when she left and we tasted our food, we realized we needed salt and pepper. Well, there is NO salt and pepper on the tables. There are no condiments whatsoever. So I looked on my phone to see if I had to order that, which took another while to figure out that no, it was nowhere on the menu. So we ate our food for a long time without salt and pepper. (My son needed it for his peas and I needed it for my salad.). The server never came to ask if we needed anything or how everything was. Now, I used to be a server for years and the number one thing you need to do is check to make sure your guests are doing ok or if they need anything else. Because the guests can sit there all meal needing something and getting unhappier because they can't get that one small thing. So finally I flagged her down and asked for salt and pepper and some to go boxes. She said ok and went to get the boxes first (?). So, then we ate even more of our food without the salt and pepper and had the to go boxes before we could even make our food taste better. Finally. when we were almost finished with dinner, we got the salt and pepper. All of this could have been easily made into a better experience if there was just salt and pepper on the table and if the server checked in with us soon after we got our food. The food, by the way was average. I had the green salad, pickled veggies, and deviled eggs. All were just ok. I've had MUCH better of all 3. My son had chicken tenders and fries and peas. The fries were excellent. For dessert, he had a Chocolate chip cookie and I had the berry compote. Both were hugely disappointing. I've had SO much better. The berry compote also came out cold. I took it home so I could microwave it, and it still had a very below average taste. My son, who LOVES chocolate chip cookies said it was just ok. I took a bite and agreed. It was actually not tasty at all. I've read all the responses of the owner to the negative reviews and he keeps saying that the staff is AMAZING and people RAVE about the service. I've been to countless restaurants in my 48 year old life, and I can tell you, this was NOT amazing service. There was zero personal connection with the food server and us. She never asked how we were. I felt bad for her climbing up and down those stairs. She was probably exhausted, But, we did not feel taken care of, the food was just ok, and the atmosphere was super stark and bland. I wonder if we would have had a different experience on the 3rd floor. At least we would have been outside on a beautiful day. read more

I definitely expected better. If it is a nice day and you want to grab a beer, this could be a good place. The food was minimal and bad. One of us had the steak skewer (extremely over cooked) you could hardly chew it. The other had the three burger sliders, also over cooked. They refused to take cash to pay the bill but said we could leave cash for the tip....I think not! The view is good on the third floor. The 2nd and 1st floor don't have much to offer. They do have an elevator. This is a new place so all bright and clean. They just need a good cook. read more

They proclaim a view but there isn't one unless you go and look out a east-facing window from up high and one can see some part of the river. They did not have menus and one needs to use their phone. Only breakfast ( they call it brunch ) until two p.m. I think they're associated with Thunder Island or so they state so maybe they have a "no competition" agreement about serving lunch at noon? Happened across this establishment after being told we'd have to wait 35 minutes just down the street. Turns out we were happy that things worked out that way. We were able to seat ourselves immediately and on the 3rd floor deck which had a gorgeous view. We ordered the sliders and fries and sampled several of the mighty fine beers. Beer is good, food is good. Smash burger, candies bacon, pork sliders, and more, all good. Only reason I give it a 4 is because the process of ordering, getting food and finishing is so impersonal. Some may like that, but it was so hard to find someone to ask questions, finally got up and got our own water and extra napkins ( for the yummy and messy smash burger). We will definitely go back. I'm only giving this review 3 stars for one reason. I despise the QR code menu system! It's especially bad when you have to pay on your phone as well. Every time you get a round of drinks. And you have to pay a tip before you even get served! It really takes away from part of the reason I eat out, the whole experience. They didn't even have menus that you could ask for. Sigh. That being said, the food was excellent, the new building was large and well-decorated, and the workers were friendly. The view was nice as well. Four of us dined for lunch. The atmosphere is bright and stylish. We ate up on the second floor. Everything was exceptionally clean. You order and pay from your phone. Easy to do. The server also brought us paper menus. Our server was friendly and checked in frequently. Two of us had the fried chicken sandwich and two of us had burgers. We all thought the food was tasty, good portion size for the price. Lots of fresh fries. Salad was fresh and quality greens. We all said we would come back for sure. read more
