This place has amazing food! I was skeptical but it was delicious. If you get the chips and salsa, you'll get 4 different salsas which makes up for the price point. The meat in my quesadilla was super tender, plus we got everything super fast so the food was hot. The drinks were good as well. I'll definitely be back for the food. It is a bit pricy here and it's small so it can get very packed, be prepared! read more

I had the rajas con queso burritos, which came filled with cheese, rajas, black beans, and pico de gallo. The dish came with a green salsa on the side. The beans had some nice flavor to them, and the tortilla tasted fresh. The rajas were super crunchy, though I would've preferred them to have been cooked a bit softer. This is more of a fork and knife kind of burrito - I tried picking it up and it wouldn't really stay together. I felt the portions were a bit small for $23 with tax and tip, but otherwise the flavors were adequate. read more

Gordo - Brooklyn Restaurant Review Food: The highlight at Gordo is the steak-diced burrito, which is a must-try and perfect for sharing with two people. The menu is packed with delicious options, and everything I've tried so far has been flavorful and satisfying. Drinks: The margaritas are an absolute must! They perfectly complement the food and make the experience even better. Atmosphere: Gordo offers a welcoming and friendly environment. The staff is always attentive and approachable, making the visit feel warm and enjoyable. Overall Experience: Gordo in Brooklyn is a fantastic spot to visit for both the food and the drinks. I highly recommend trying the steak-diced burrito and enjoying a margarita--you won't be disappointed! read more

This has been our spot for years now, my husband and I started going even before we had children and now we continue to go with our 3 boys! Micheladas are my favorite, even during my pregnancy I was still able to have them but virgin style with topo chico. Staff are very nice and friendly, and service is 10/10. We go weekly, definitely recommend read more

Another fabulous experience at Gordo's. This time for Cinco di Mayo. Place was packed and the whole team still delivered a delicious and fun experience. Thanks guys ! And special thanks to their wonderful chef Reina. She really IS the queen of Mexican cuisine. read more

There's a reason this restaurant is on the Michelin Guide, and that's because everything about dining here is incredible - from the delicious food, to the lively ambiance, to the great service. Everything we ordered was delicious. While the Enchiladas de Mole Negro Oaxaqueno were great, their tacos were, without question, the best thing on their menu. The carnitas tacos plate was only $15 and came with 4 fat tacos filled with flavorful, tender, juicy carnitas - through some salsa on top, and it's perfect. Delish! Their homemade tortilla chips with their 4 salsas is also great and a perfect starter to the meal. They don't take reservations, and it can definitely get busy here, so plan ahead. Definitely a must-stop for some incredible Mexican food. read more

Had the fish tacos, carnitas, and birria tacos. Food was above average, we really enjoyed it. So why 3 stars? The prices they charged were all higher than the printed menu they gave us. We didn't realize it until later, but several items were higher than what they were on the menu. Maybe they gave us older menus, but the menus seemed to be similar to those online... But the tacos were really good read more

I was in the mood for Mexican and was nearby so decided to stop for lunch for Taco Tuesday. Parking was a bit hard but eventually found a spot a block away. I started with some chips and salsa and a small side of Guacamole. Chips were good but I prefer them a little thinner and crunchier. The guacamole was ok, felt it was missing something. I ordered Chicken tacos which came 4 to an order. The chicken was shredded more like a tinga, they were pretty basic and I felt they were also under seasoned too. The salsa verde gave it a little extra flavor though. The guy helping me was pretty friendly and helpful, I may give them another try but order something else. read more

I came here and ate a meal. The bartender made me feel at home, the food was immaculate. Host was intense. I had a good time...

came here for lunch and my favorites were DEF the salsas, i do think i've had better tacos elsewhere though the food: got the shredded pork but that comes with tortillas on the side, the tiger shrimp tacos, chips and guac, and chips and trio of salsas. i was disappointed that they did not have al pastor, and the shredded pork wasn't my favorite. i do think the tiger shrimp was very delicious and flavorful (a similar one can also be found at mariscos del submarino). salsas were the star of the show! the space: small but cozy! the service: attentive read more

I really, really wish I could rate this place higher. My partner and I have been walking by it for months and we always wanted to try it, so we figured tonight was the night. We were so excited, too, when we saw it had a Michelin mention?! Sign us up! It was a small, but cozy place. We ordered the tuna ceviche, the tiger shrimp tacos, fried cod tacos, and the chorizo quesadillas. Not a single one of them stood out to me, and they were really expensive for what they were. The sauces did improve the taste somewhat, so I started to feel better. At the end, I asked for a to-go bag for the tacos we couldn't finish and something to put the sauce in. We realized we'd used up one of the sauces that I liked, so I asked for a small container of one, and the server said she'd have to charge for it! For how expensive the food was, I assumed that it would be no big deal for a tiny container of sauce. Some of the fanciest, most delicious restaurants I've been to have had no problem getting me a small container of sauce and sometimes bring me one without my requesting it. I know it's a minor detail but it irked me. I wish the servers were friendlier, too, but my partner felt like they seemed almost annoyed that we were there. I have a lot of empathy for people in the service industry because I've been there myself, but something about this place and the people working there just seemed off I'm very disappointed to say. **Note: We tried their horchata drink, which had kind of a weird chemical taste to it, but we did not try their alcoholic cocktails. Based on other reviews, maybe we should have! read more

I've been wanting to come here for a while cause I've heard such good things and it's on the Michelin guide and was sooo dissapointed. I genuinely can't explain how mid this was. Chicken tacos and steak tacos literally had no flavor at all, tasted like nothing. The Birria tacos were not the expected version at all, it was just a ton of wet meat in a corn tortilla that fell apart immediately. The Birria had flavor at least. It was also SO expensive, like for 2 entrees and 2 cokes it came out to $80. Definitely could have gone to a taco truck that was way better. Service was totally fine and fast, no complaints there. But def skip this place and go to Taqueria al pastor instead in Bushwick or Los Tacos in the city. I feel bad giving it 1 star but I don't know what I would even give it another star for lol read more

HIDDEN GEM ALERT!! The doctors, surgeons, nurses, residents, fellows, nurses, X-ray techs, pharmacy techs, and patients in the waiting room have a star on their hands! Situated a blocks walk from the world famous Wykoff hospital, this place dished out authentic Mexican cuisine faster than you can say chimichanga. The food and ambiance are both solid. Dog friendly and people friendly, this quaint place can quietly hold its own against some of the more snobbish $$$ - $$$$ Mexican establishments in nearby greenpoint. My hot wife had margheritas which were great while I had beer and tequila shots which well... beer and tequila shots. I was drinking wine that evening and I don't like to mix as I'm in my mid 40's but they don't serve wine (only downside). It was nice to kick a few back and forget about the world. Let's talk the mainstay buzzer beater.. the food!!! Delicious, aspiring, ambitious, native, rich, warm, and fresh. We had the nachos with guacamole (Top 5 I have had in my life aside from my wife's). And I have had a lot of guacamole (more than than average person as I was a ship doctor for celebrity cruises and Royal Caribbean for a good part of my career. Our ship would dock all over Mexico every single weekend!) Getting back to the guac, it was chunky and chips fried from scratch. Definitely hit the spot as we had two plates! For appetizers, we ordered pork butt tacos with fresh Mexican cheese (not Kraft or BJs cheese... authentic Mexican stringy white cheese). Delicious and could eat 10 of those on a rich and heavy Saturday night after drinking. Entrees.. Wife had the open face quesadilla which she said was dynamite. But my order of the el presidente (tiger shrimp burrito) was like a flavor napalm that went off in my mouth and skids down my esophagus. A bonafide show stopper. I inhaled it like I inhale oxygen. It was incredible. Soft succulent tiger shrimp in creamy sauce. It was outstanding. We went during happy hour (4-7pm) and ate on the picnic bench outside with our babies. Going back is an understatement. This is our Mexican flavor of the summer. We plan on spending the summer there outside, drinking cold beers, fading a few shots of tequila, and eating tacos by the handful. All while admiring the beauty and epitome of warm city living that is Bushwick. Bushwick is the next Greenpoint but without the commercialization and dirty streets!! read more

Came here for date night once and have been back another two times within the last month. Their tacos are delicious, their margaritas are strong, and their staff kind. This place is rather dimly lit and compact although they do offer outdoor seating which is great during the warmer seasons. They've got high top tables and a few lower ones, you can also sit at the bar facing the street or the kitchen. Food wise, highly recommend carnitas tacos. Their tacos are filled with so much meat, you will be full after an order of them. Boyfriend enjoys their agua frescas and mango margaritas. Their bathroom is clean but again, quite dimly lit. The ambiance is super laid back and chill and the staff are all super nice and approachable. I really enjoy the vibes and food of this place and it's going to be a regular rotation for date nights. Highly recommend trying them out! read more

I was around the area so a friend and I popped in to have lunch together on a Saturday. This spot was on my list for a while because it is on Michelin's Bib Gourmand list. Enchiladas de Mole Oaxaqueno: A MUST! The flavor of the mole is amazing. It is probably the best mole I have ever had. I would come out of my way to eat here again. Taco Gobernador: The shrimp is huge!! Even though it is on the pricey side, it was totally worth it. One of the best shrimp tacos I've ever had. 10/10 would go again here! I have had 3 wonderful meals here . The drinks are also well made and there is a happy hour. One can sit at a table the bar or outside . The flavors are so authentic and wonderful . The food is so fresh I always assume because of the size of the restaurant it would be very crowded I have never experienced that. Ay,dios mio! This place is killer. My friend has been raving about it for the last year. He forgets that he mentions it all the time and every time it's fully animated and with heart eyes. The other week I passed Gordo's Cantina and could see there was already a line. I knew that I would have to visit sooner than later. I popped in to treat myself for a to go lunch. I love the decor inside it's a more modern but fun take on Mexican decor. The bartender who helped me out with the menu was helpful in explaining. He mentioned the faves while also making drinks. I ordered the burritas with shrimp, a homemade horchata and one of their signature restaurant bags in the best lime green. I am drawn to the bag because of the rat....I know it's weird but also it's so NY. The bartender mentioned they had just made the horchata. Something about homemade horchata that really gets my motor running. It was banging. Holy smokes. When I got home it looks like I got the tacos instead of the burritas. The difference is tacos are the corn tortillas and burritas are flour. The tacos were still delicious. Since spring has sprung in NY, I was mad craving guac and a margarita. I hit up my friend who made the introduction. It was super sunny and nice but the wind was a blowin'. Dang! When we arrived every table outside was still taken and there are a number of options from two tops to group tables. I would highly recommend arriving early. Happy hour is 3-7. $6 Margaritas! We snagged a table on the inside. Props to the bartender who was also our dj and picked such a lovely array of current punk tunes that I love mixed with some old faves. We ordered the guac and chips. Totally hit the spot. I had to try the octopus tacos. I adore octopus. It's super easy to overcook and it can toughen up. Luckily Gordo's knows what they are doing. The octopus was super tender. My tacos were worth the price tag. I would highly recommend. Our waitress was a total doll and made sure we could squeeze one more margarita during the happy hour. Can't wait to be a regular. So happy to have Gordo's in the neighborhood. Flautas, churros and corn are still on my to taste list. Here's hoping they add a veggie or seafood torta, please. read more

Best tacos I've had in NYC in a minute! These are SIZEABLE tacos, not your typical fit-in-your hand ones at a taqueria but rather, absolutely loaded. Two was more than enough of a meal for me and my buds. The shrimp taco was so deliciously cheesed up and stuffed with tender shrimp. The carnita quesadilla was also very tender and juicy. We loved that our server recommended the salsas with a scoop of guac for the starter. Each salsa was clearly fresh made with love and the chips were crispy and delicious. Overall an amazing meal, a hip hole in the wall edgy ambience. I would go back just for the shrimp taco. read more

Gordo's is solid! We ordered the shrimp tacos, carnitas quesadilla, and salsa set + guac. All of it was amazing, but I was most impressed by how hearty the mains were. Each taco and quesadilla (open-faced) were absolutely LOADED with shrimp / pork butt. Even though prices are kinda steep ($18 for two tacos), the food was delicious and the portions made it worth it. Also, the vibes were great and service was super friendly. Overall, highly recommend and will be back next time I'm in Bushwick. read more

Yes, it was my desire to have this review up last month but in any event... Happy Belated Cinco De Mayo 2020-lol. We wanted to find an eatery that makes fantastic mexican food + would deliver it to us to comemorate + celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Lo and Behold we were pleasantly surprised to see Gordo's Cantina as we browsed through the UberEats App. Placing an order was easy as 1,2,3 and we eagerly anticipated our lunch. Gordo's Cantina is a Mexican Restaurant located in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn and one can take the L Train to the Dekalb Station. The pictures on the Gordo's Cantina Yelp page depicts it as a place that has cool, laid-back atmospheric energy where people can have a nice dining experience. UberEats arrived w/ our food and we were excited to eat. We both ordered Arrachera Asada (Steak Tacos-$13) as well as side orders of Rice and Beans ($4). The Arrachera Asada are three grilled marinated diced steak tacos served with cilantro + onions. Wow...the flavorful, seasoned steak made the tacos taste delicious from the first to the last bite. The rice and beans complimented the Arrachera Assda well. Definitely Happy Taco Tuesday-lol. Due to the current health crisis, Gordo's Cantina allows patrons to conduct order pickup or to have their food delivered. Gordo's Cantina states on their website that deliveries where people are more than 3 miles from their restaurant have to be completed through Caviar or UberEats. Please go to the Gordo's Cantina Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter pages for more information on this establishment. read more

It's OKAY. It's edible. It's not awful but it definitely is not what others are making it out to be. As a Mexican that travels to Mexico 3-4x per year, this is not it. I came here with high expectations due the Michelin review and other reviewers. I was disappointed. I love supporting local businesses and my partner and I have a tradition of supporting local every Thursday and on this Thursday as I sit here looking at my food, I have regrets. I'll be back for the drinks though, those are pretty good. The meat was super dry and everything tasted of garlic. :( Better spots for less: plaza Ortega on Myrtle and stanhope, nenes taqueria on Starr. You can't go wrong! read more

Very flavorful and appetizing. Also ordered some appetizers that were just as good. The chef made us a tuna ceviche that was mouthwatering. I don't think it's on the menu, but request it if you can. Fun atmosphere, yummy drinks (treat yourself to a strawberry agua fresca or margarita!) but the food was just ok. Guacamole de la Abuela was our favorite! The elote wasn't what I wanted- they use a softer blander corn but I prefer the firmer sweeter ones. Birria tacos were ok, on the saltier side. Burrita was fun but also nothing spectacular. Very small and cozy Mexican spot in bushwick that we found just because i was just craving some good guacamole. Do yourself a huge favor and order the carnitas tacos! SO flavorful, probably some of the best pork tacos I have ever had in new york. They honestly also have big portions, the taco orders comes with three tacos for $11. The pulpo or shrimp tacos are a little more expensive but rightfully so. These are some BIG boy tacos and they're stuffed with meat. They don't come with many toppings but the salsa verde they give on the side is spicy and delicious. Of course I added guacamole to mine and it made for the perfect bite. The only complaint i had was that they were very wet, every bite i took resulted in tons of liquid dripping everywhere. If you're not careful, everything will be a mess. Its worth it though so i guess its okay by me. We also tried the chorizo tacos and they were very good, they have big chunks of chorizo (not crumbled). I wouldn't say these were my favorite but i also wouldn't be mad to share these. I really want to go back to try the burritos and the tortas since they looked so promising! I think this would be the perfect spot for a chill weeknight dinner or even on a Friday for some cocktails. Bushwick is really killing it with the mexican food lately! Good job Gordos! read more
