I met a case manager that was a big help, Daniel. We focused on a new template for my resume and he shared some links for me to continue to do job exploring. It was good, I thought. Then he referred me to Tom. We set an appointment in the afternoon, I went. Tom did not. He later apologized and asked me to do a questionnaire email. It took more than one hour to write my thoughts, goals. We did not meet. He sent me many notices for job fairs that I should/need to consider attending. I was sent emails from a lead person on upcoming job fairs at the Burleson location. I looked up the companies on the list online to check their listings to see the jobs offered. I did not see anything for me to apply for. I have gone to job fairs in the past. Nothing has come out of it for me. So no, I do not want to participate in that aspect. It is very difficult and intimidating to me. I have certain limitations for working and that is the main reason I hoped for a career assistance with Goodwill. So, if that is what Goodwill counts as no participation, so be it. No one told me I MUST go to the job fairs.
I am part-time employed and seeking a career change. Nothing happens when browsing on my own or sending email applications. I was counting on Goodwill to steer me toward a better direction.
I find Goodwill is is not necessarily does not assist me or I am a more difficult person to place in a job as they may not know how! I find you must evaluate your expectations for using Goodwill, as an employment help. Be prepared to do it yourself, maybe they have cases overloaded with job seekers. Possibly there are more jobs for ESL, non-English speakers or for labor, housekeeping positions it is good, not for everyone!!!.
While on an errand and find a card on a table. I figured Tom was not progressing with me, so, I emailed to Doug. The email came back undelivered. I also cc: to 2 supervisors. The following day I get an email back from Daniel, the first one. (I did not write to him) He says he sent me an email, and maybe it went to my Spam box. (Well, that reasoning does not work because I check and delete my Spam box weekly plus he has email me numerous times and I always saw the note)
His letter:
I was forwarded your e-mail from yesterday to Doug regarding participation in Goodwill services. Please see the e-mail below that was sent on April 7, 2017. I sent this e-mail last month as I had not heard from you since January 24. This e-mail may have been sent to your Spam folder.
"Dear T,
You are receiving this letter because I have not heard from you in quite some time. The Goodwill Workforce Advancement Program serves to assist individuals in finding employment, and it is necessary to maintain contact with me, your career case manager, throughout the process. Active participation and communication are key program requirements.
Please contact me by phone or email within 2 weeks. If I do not hear from you by Thursday, April 21st, 2017 your case will be closed. If your case is closed you can always re-enter the program in 6 months by doing another intake and assessment at a time that is better for you. I understand now might not be the best time to use our services and a later date would be more convenient.
If you have found employment, please contact me with your employer information as well. We can continue to support you while working with a new employer.
Thank you"
Please feel free to contact me in case you have any questions or concerns. You can reach me via this e-mail or contact me via phone at 512.649.0465. Thank you!

This hurt and upset me a little bit. I do not plan to go back. I accept the need to fight for employment on my own, like all job hunters do. I do not accept that I'm the bad client. I resent being shoved.. Plus feeling lied to about not receiving the email. True, it might be January since we had contact, but Tom was MIA????
Goodwill really does not do much to assist disabled people & people that have specific difficulties. Some of your staff suck! I do not say that lightly. This is my 2nd attempt with their services. I tried in past, about 2014. Daniel was prompt & excellent. Yet Tom and many other referrals were BAD news. I will also share follow-up with other agencies, governmental that this did not work out and was a waste of my time, with Tom and basically stupid as job placement service. That is why I did a lengthy review. Now, I will go back to my job hunting. read more
