Treasure City Thrift recently moved into my neighborhood, so I finally stopped in to see what it…read morewas all about. On my first visit, I noticed they had a nice mix of clothing, shoes, glassware, and home décor, so I came back this weekend hoping to browse the clothing racks. I struck out on clothes this time around--not because they didn't have any, just because nothing in my size was quite my style, condition, or price point. That's thrifting, though. You never know what you're going to find, and sometimes the best score is in a completely different aisle. In my case, I walked out with a pair of vintage shoes in excellent condition for only $5, plus several beautiful glass pieces for next to nothing. I'd call that a successful trip! When I drove by on Sunday, they had boxes and boxes of free items out front with people happily digging through them. It was way too hot for me to join the hunt, but once the Texas weather cools off, I definitely will. This feels like one of those thrift stores that's worth stopping into regularly because the inventory is always changing, and you never know what treasure you'll find next.

It seems that many have followed us into here afterwards. There is a great amount of parking out front. The floor plan is open and spread out I like how they have switched up the organization of a layout. I can quickly lose my wife to the racks while I drop into the back area and comb over some of the local artifacts. Often I'm looking for antiques, old toys, some office equipment, and large scale frames. I go through my usual tracks and quickly find what I'm looking for or I end up re-organizing the shelves and put things in where they're supposed to be. The hired help does a decent job, but there are the few who just throw it up on the shelf and call it a day. There's so much donations in the back that they don't really mind where they place it because people like me will either put it in place or make a purchase. I used to snub those who went to Goodwill. They should be calling it. Good fortune instead. It's like urban mining. There are some really good finds. People toss out brand new items to worn through apparel. Sometimes even I find items that I would've bought 20 or 30 years ago and now I have it. My wife and I have made it into an enjoyable hobby to pass the time and reminisce on those things that have been past through the generations.

We were followed and antagonized by the sales person, an older white lady with short hair. She followed our every move except when checking someone out at the register I kneeled down to check out a piece of pottery that had some medal inside and when she heard a clinkig noise and quickly said out loud from where she was " if you break it you buy it, if you break it you will have to purchase it,". Then she proceeded to come to where we were. I had purchased pieces form a nearby antique store, one of which I was holding in my hand. She demanded to see it's tag. To which I nicely obliged. She then told us that she needed to tell us they had just installed security cameras, which she repeated several times. I was shocked and sickened that we were treated this way. We quickly left the store as we were all very upset. No one should be treated this way. I suggest Ownership ( if she wasn't the owner) should really address this issue. I would not recommend anyone support this establishment until this is addressed and sales people are appropriately trained. Sadly, Another example of how racism is alive and well in America.

There were two gentlemen behind the front desk. One asked what I was looking for. I said I was looking for some eyeglass frames, which they recommended another store. I also mentioned something about us looking around before our flight. All of a sudden, one person behind the desk stated that he was too old for this, and that he just didn't feel like talking, and said it's his day off. The other person with him didn't say anything, so I just walked away, and then decided to call and Uber and leave the area. Having spent much of my working career with critically ill people who are often having the worst days of their lives, I can admit to many moments where I am super tired and frustrated with things in my own life, and understand needing to take a step away, have a minute to regroup, take a breather etc. But how am I supposed to know it's your day off if you're behind the counter, and asked me what I was looking for? what about the other person who I'm assuming was working..couldn't they have chosen to just say a few words? If they felt I was looking for a long explanation, I think a reply saying something like I'll give you the short version would have sufficed. It did made me wonder what it was about me and friends that made it seem appropriate to reply in that manner. Is the attitude some type of gimmick I'm not aware of? Im not necessarily angry, Just felt disappointed. Made me wonder what I had to look like to get treated nicely. Maybe it's the fact half my outfit is from Costco, the other half from Marshall's. (I'm still quite proud of all that). And my friend was carrying her Vera Bradley luggage haha. Well who knows, and I do see the work put into that store and am assuming there's a lot of thought and talent put into it. There were two cars in front of me, but there were multiple employees, and they worked efficiently to keep things flowing smoothly, which kept the line moving.
