One of the Hispanic male staff/cashiers with glasses allowed people to cut in front of us because he knew them. I thought he called me over and at the register he tried to tell me they were before me which in fact they were behind me. I watched them walk to the line behind me.. Then he tried to correct himself and say it was a furniture line not a clothing line . He was not fair when it came to customer service . The customer apologized and said she was behind me & he continued to help her . There was nothing posted stating one line was for clothing and the other cashier was for furniture . 10/10 experience. per usual i love salvation army. typically my boyfriend and i go to the south austin location but today when we walked in to this location up north our boy aaron helped us out tremendously. off rip was friendly, joyous, and glad to help us-- eventually helping us decide which couch was the perfect fit for us! all of the employees up north, including the manager juan were more than pleasurable to be around. thanks so much to them! also the north location is so spacious and has a ton of different things to offer. read more

I've been to the Salvation Army location dozens of times. It's a very spacious store that has a great deal of used furniture and clothing. I can't say I've ever found anything of any notable value or a hidden undiscovered gem at this location. However, if you're on a really tight budget and in need of clothing or furniture, this is a good place to check out. I've never seen anything worthwhile as far as electronics go, but they usually have a decent selection of appliances. They usually have someone parked outside the main entrance to handle donations. I was told they would take my couch which has no rips, tears, or stains. I waited two weeks for the appointment only to have the driver tell me they wouldn't take it. The issue is not that they would not take the couch, that is up to them. The issue is that the driver was EXTREMELY rude. I will never do business with them again. There is no excuse for anyone to have that kind of attitude. It makes the business look very bad. read more

Salvation Army Thrift stores always make me happy!! Every Time I shop there it's like a treasure hunt because I never know what treasures or goodies I'll find so that does add to the enjoyment of me going :-). I prefer shopping at Salvation Army rather than Goodwill because the prices are WAY CHEAPER at Salvation Army & they have an additional percentage off depending on the color tag that day. Could be 25% or an additional 50% off! This Salvation Army location is not as big as the one in Round Rock but I still like to shop at both locations. And on my most recent shopping trip I was popping tags! Lots of treasures found! Chap capris for $1.99 (originally being sold for $3.99 & then an additional 50% off)!!! Very cute yellow gap shorts & a dress I was needing for a 70s themed prom that I went to & all I paid was $7.50!!! Let me repeat...$7.50 $$$$$$$$$ I took 1 star off my review since there are only 2 women dressing rooms which can be a bit of a wait depending on the day & time you are shopping & the carpets in the dressing room are very dirty (I get it I'm at a Salvation Army but still). read more

Many times it can be a fair chance at finding good deals on furniture and dishes.when it comes to checking out; can be a strange turn. This us the second time we had been overcharged by 8% more than what was in our basket. After searching for fair deals before a doctor appointment and then waiting in line for awhile. By this time; tired and just want to leave in time and later realize you were overcharged quite a bit-can be disappointed. Not living in town and visiting should leave a sour note, yet I know now to triple check before leaving any thrift store, cuz the gas expense alone is not worth the "sour surprise". Be aware, maybe handing over one item at a time, before payment to not be overcharged(even though always a good cause to thrift, yet kinda annoying to be asked to round up) and then be so overcharged. I was shopping and I dont think I will go back there again. The store manager was flirting and leaned into me and whispered vulgar things to me the other day bu the back of the store. I was quite surprised. I dont know his name but he is hispanic and on the thin side. I dont know why he would ever be put in this position but I found him quite offensive and upsetting. Waste of time donating here. Try Habitat for Humanity or Goodwill better. Had SA come get a queen bed in good condition, Sealy Postrure-pedic mattress had a protective cover since new, and a brushed bronze bed frame with same head board. Guy barely glanced at the box spring and said there was a scratch and would only take the mattress and bed frame. Told him to take a hike. Their loss. H4H or Goodwill. read more

I was tempted to give this store a 1* rating, because it is by far the most expensive Salvation Army store I've ever been in. The furniture is especially expensive. For example, hideous 20 year old couches, though in good condition, are being sold for 3, 4, and 500 bucks.. which, to me, is way overpriced. Also, I saw a 5-shelf book case (the kind you can get at Target or WalMart for 29.99, take home and put together yourself), very obviously used, being sold with a ticket price of $90. ??? Even at half price a lot of these items are too expensive to consider purchasing. I decided to give it two stars, however, because the items were all in good condition. The store is very spacious and easy to walk through. The clothing looks clean. It's pretty well organized and doesn't smell like moth balls yet. The entrance is kind of hard to see, but there's a lot of parking area in the lot. It seems like it opened fairly recently, but it was my first time in so I couldn't really say for sure. I just felt so strange walking out, not being able to imagine how they make any money.. You might actually be able to find some nice furniture or clothing here. It's just far more than I could ever justify paying for resold furniture or clothing--unless it still had the tags on it (which none of it did). read more

Horrible experience donating here. Drivers won't take a single item, no matter how new/nice it is, unless you have specifically listed it in the pick-up request. They basically act like they are trying to find reasons to not pick things up. Donate to an organization that truly wants to pick up items for those in need (St. Vincent Depaul, AmVets, etc.) read more

Good thrifting in Austin! I wasn't sure what to expect, but visions of Goodwill came to mind. Surprisingly HUGE & impressive furniture selection. I'd definitely check this place out if you were in need of a couch, desk, or dresser before you hit the expensive spots. The clothing was hard to look through of course, but I got some good finds! A brand new Pink Floyd tee was one, and it ended up only being 50 cents. You can't tell me that's not worth it. but WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY WHY?!?!?!?!? do they staple the price tag on the clothes? COME ON. Wednesdays are my new favorite days. Half off all clothing?! Heck yeah! This Salvation Army is a great place to start learning how to thrift shop. The clothes are somewhat organized by color and size, and the shop is smaller (and less overwhelming) than its sister store on South Congress. I was able to get a shirt from F21 for $1, a dress from Gap for $3, and a nice brown leather bag for $2. They had a huge assortment of belts and other accessories for $1. You have to hunt around for good deals, but every time I go, I'm able to find at least one or two things that I really like for a super cheap price. There's also an impressive assortment of furniture, books, old VHS tapes, and CDs. Definitely a place to check out if you're on a budget! read more

While this place may be completely covered in trash and you have to tip toe over dirty diapers in the parking lot, the easter egg hunt awaits inside! Ugh... this SA is ghetto. The clothing selection leaves quite a bit to be desired, especially compared to the Round Rock location. It smells like grossness, the hangers leave a nasty residue on your fingers and there are always screaming children running amuck. Blech. read more

This store is hit-and-miss, but when it hits, it's out of the stadium. Most of the time when I come in here I don't find much, but every once in a while I find really excellent retro kitchen gear here. Yesterday I found a Pyrex bundt pan, of all things - score! Their clothing selection - at least, the women's - tends to be really low quality and high selection, but they do have excellent sale prices quite often. Their men's selection seems a bit better. Like the old Salvation Army at S. Lamar, this store has a bunch of furniture. I haven't found anything I couldn't live without, though. read more

I come to this store once a week. Sometimes twice. It's huge with an always-changing selection. On Wednesdays, all clothing is half-off. The clothes are clean and lined by type and color. The staff is awesome. My only issue is that they staple, as do all Salvation Armies, the price tag onto the clothes. Sometimes this creates a hole and the piece of clothing is ruined. In all the things I've donated over the years to the many places, I've never had a place cherry pick what they were taking. I noticed the guy ahead of me loading stuff back in his truck but didn't think about it at the time. My turn came and I quickly realized what was happening. They did take most but there was no solid reason why he shouldn't have taken everything. If things weren't useable I trash them. I took the other items to Goodwill. I had been taking things to Savers and APA Thrift Store and decided to spread stuff out more. I won't be going back to Salvation Army. read more

Wasted a whole day waiting around for them. First off they came after the pickup window. Then they told me they couldn't take it because of some dust while I moved it to the door. The dust came right off. I'm pretty sure the pickup guys were just to lazy to take it because it was heavy. Shame on them for not taking it. This could have gone to someone in need. Salvation Army Pick Up -- i WISH I read the reviews regarding their pick up service. The bad reviews listed here are VERY VERY TRUE. I waited for 3hrs for the drivers to pick up my Sofa and Couch only for the driver to tell me they couldnt except it because of a less than an inch tear. NO WHERE on their site do they state that the donations need to be in tip top shape meaning that your furniture has to be near pristine in order for them to take it. TO ADD INJURY TO BIG INSULT, they took pictures of the furniture damage so they had proof why theY chose to refused the pick up for their manager. I was in shock so I didnt have the clear mind at that time to kick both of them out immediately of my home---why give them the satisfaction of telling me after 3hrs they couldnt take it and point out all the reasons why AND TAKE PICTURES! BAD FIRST EXPERIENCE OF OFFERING TO DONATE MY FURNITURE. Probably wont plan on donating to them---if they were CLEAR on the condition of the donated furniture, I wouldnt have lost WORKING HOURS FOR MY JOB that day only to be told, " nope, we cant take this because of this tear right here". **YOU SHOULDN'T DONATE TO SALVATION ARMY** I scheduled an appointment weeks in advance. I wrote in there that I live on a second floor apartment. They called the day before to tell me they couldn't move heavy items from non-ground floor units. Strike #1. Fine, I got someone to help. Strike #2: Then, they said I could call at 7:30 AM the day of for a 3 hour window. They gave me a time of 8am-11am. I have to drive for 30m to get to my old apartment, so already a bad day, not their fault but you could give someone more advance. It's not like we don't have jobs. Strike #3: On top of it all, they finally arrive after 2 hours of waiting only to tell me they don't take IKEA furniture. They could only take one of the items. The employee was nice, but it was the rudest thing to do to a person. I had to move out in less than 2 days so then I had to call all over to find another donation place. Anyway, TLDR: The Salvation Army is uninformative, and if you're donating furniture then pick St. Vincent de Paul's, specifically the Yager lane location cause they're awesome and squeezed me in last minute and so friendly. read more

I was finally curious to step inside here. I think there is a reason why this place is practically deserted and the nearby Goodwill are always packed not only with people--but with a signifigantly wider range of donated clothing. The clothes were organized haphazardly. Other than arranged by color and function, customers have to figure out what is for women/men. This itself could create a disincentive to shop at the Salvation Army. And then they have a weird color pricing tag--which I doubt the store workers properly followed any way. After being excited when I found the type of jacket I had been searching for, I asked the clerk what the price was, I was shocked when they said it was $22--well over their limit for other similar items in that very same store. It sounded like they were making it up off the top of their heads because I know that Target...etc even sells coats for less than that. I left and will definently not be back. read more

This place is great! Salvation Army thrift stores always have the lowest prices, & everything is organized by color. I love the fact that on top of their prices being lower than goodwill they have even further (50% !) discount on certain items everyday! One serious complaint is how hard it is to find out the store hours. Most locations have them posted on the door, but for some reason this one doesn't, & even when you're banging on the door trying to find out what time they open no one will come out & tell you. Plus they're closed on Sunday, that's always annoying. read more

I would give them a zero, but that's not an option. They claim to accept gently used items, so I scheduled a pick-up to be performed while I was away. I had many household items and office items, as well. The drivers xame and picked up NOT ONE SINGLE ITEM. I called to ask why, and the operator proceeded to badmouth all of my items, saying he had photo evidence they were unacceptable, yet didn't know even half of what I had when questioned. Worse, they didn't even bother to call. There are plenty of thrift places in Austin that aren't too lazy or picky to accept good items. Salvation Army IS NOT one of them. I have tried 3 different times to donate to Salvation Army using their pickup service. The first time they refused to take a beautiful leather sofa because it had a tear of less than 1/2" on the underside of one pillow; the 2nd time they refused to take a mattress because it had a mark (not a stain, a pen mark) on the edge of one end of the mattress; and the 3rd time they were just a no show even though I called to confirm the pickup time at 7:30am as they instructed me I could do. I will never donate to this organization again, they leave too much to the discretion of the drivers. Ridiculous, choose a different organization. read more
