First time visitor, and will come again. I decided to visit becase of the reviews I read about this location and I am in agreement, with those who think this place is wonderful because of the food and the environment. The dining area was clean with ooen seating. It has a very friendly, cozy dinning room environment. As stated the service was friendly. You may be intimidated and shy if your Español is not up to date, but no worries the menu is in English, but I wonder if they have a menu in Spanish?, because I would imagine a large population of their clientele are Hispanic. Nevertheless, you can order whatever you want. They have a huge menu of breakfast and lunch items, both American and Hispanic food choices. I had an enchilada meal, with beans and a lemonade. I like Mexican food, eat a good bit of it and I was very satisfied with my meal. I can't comment on the other items, becase this was my first visit and not my last. Of what I saw on other patrons plates, I saw one couple who ordered a hamburgesa (hamburger), and it looked huge. One of those burgers you have to pick up with two hands. I might get that, on my next visit. I would highly recommend this location. I am told this is located in part of the town where you can get more of a traditional type of Mexican food. I will return. Stopped for breakfast at this local gem. It's so cute inside. They are seats at the bar where you. An watch the cook prepare your food. When we walked in a gentleman was playing guitar. Once he finished playing, another gentleman played & sang. So sweet to be serenaded during breakfast or at any food establishment! The coffee was hot which is high on my breakfast list. The beans looked outstanding as there were a lot of whole beans and not a huge pile of mush. I didn't eat the hash potatoes either but they looked good. We were served Fluor tortillas with our food. Also, prior to our food they served chips & salsa. The salsa was green, warm & hot! Yummy! I'll go back for lunch sometime. read more

Breakfast here is phenomenal! Which is definitely no secret with the crowd it draws. We waited 20+ mins in a packed lobby (pre COVID, of course) and it was worth it. If I had my way, we would have came here for breakfast everyday of our trip. If I lived in El Paso, I would probably come here everyday for breakfast too. This place was not good luck.. the tables smelled of whatever cleaner they were used had me coughing. I had a hamburger it just was not good the meat had no flavor and was over cooked ... the French fries which are sold separate were so greasy.. even when I asked for crispy fries she did bring me more fries they were also greasy.. the menudo was so so .. my ex has a menchaca burrito and that wasn't folded like a burrito he just opened it up and ate it with a fork my coffee refills took awhile ... the server was less than mediocre the Busser kept cleaning the tables around us which made me cough more. all in all it was not a good experience.. and won't be going back read more

We were visiting the college and looking to experience a reputable establishment for a good breakfast. Our hotel recommended Good Luck Cafe which is about 4 miles from the UTEP campus. It was everything we were looking for, a real home cooked meal with a relaxed environment. The place was packed but we found 2 seats and the food was out really quickly. I started off with fresh made guacamole and tortilla chips. The guac was amazingly tasty. Next I split a burger that was double patty, ham, bacon, sliced hot dog, cheese, pickle, and lettuce. Wow!! One of the tastiest burgers I've ever had. The french fries that came with it were a little greasy but oh so good. Lastly, I split an order of desebrada tacos which could have used a little more meat but one of the best tacos you will find in El Paso. This restaurant exceeded any and all expectations. Excellent burger, hand shaped ground beef patties. They'll give you the condiments (mayo, mustard) to put on it yourself. Fries are thick, hand cut from potatoes, moderately cooked, and greasy. I'm not a fan of that style, but others may be. Service was ok; a little slow to get the check at the end. An El Paso establishment and one of our favorite home restaurants. A true diner experience where the staff has been there as long as I can remember. Service is always fast and friendly and the food consistent. My husband has been getting the ground beef tacos his entire life. I mean, his entire life. It's one of our first stops when we get to El Paso. My personal favorite is the Hamburger Steak Plate which is a large breaded hamburger steak like patty topped with chili beans and served with hash browns. I've never had this anywhere else but El Paso and it is indulgently delicious. Other favorites include the Caldo, Menudo and yes, even the cheeseburgers. read more

After many return visits i will go on record that this is the number 1 menudo place on earth. End of story. Other restaurants can match or beat their other menu items like machaca and enchiladas montada, (both are very good) but no one can hold a candle to the menudo. In ELP for work, heard from the local that Good Luck Café is the place to go for some caldo de res and menudo! And that was exactly what I ordered, large bowl of caldo de res and large bowl of menudo. Both soups are tasty, even more so after some limes and onion and oregano! One small personal complaint, that is there is not enough soup (liquid) in the bowl because there are too much ingredient! I can't believe I am complaining this :P since I bet most would feel you would get your money's worth by a bowl full of ingredients. Don't get me wrong, I loved both soups, I just wish there were more soup to go with my goodies in my bowl. Although I am a fan of the Good Luck Cafe's soups, it didn't blown me away. As matter of fact, there are other Mexican restaurants in town that offers just as good caldo de res or menudos. So I will definitely come again if I am in the neighborhood. read more

Maybe I was expecting too much... I had been wanting to try Good Luck for some time. I finally had the opportunity on a Sunday morning. Got there at about 8:30 am and beat the lines. It is a quaint hole-in-the-wall establishment which I prefer. Busy and fairly clean. I decided to go for the menudo since I've had some quality menudo in this city, I wanted to see how this stacked up. I ordered a large and, to my disappointment, my menudo was brought to me in a shallow bowl that you would find in a fine dining restaurant. It might just be me but when I order a large menudo, I want a nice big hearty bowl that I can put my whole spoon in. I don't want to gently skim my menudo from my bowl. As for the taste, it was ok. There was a lot of meat, which was good but it wasn't the best menudo that I ever had. Looking at the small bowl I believe that it may have been similar in volume to the large. The limes and onions were also portion controlled. Looking around the restaurant, at most places I would expect many people ordering menudo on a Sunday morning, but it appears that I was the only sap to do so at that time. The locals knew better. Some of the other dishes people had ordered looked good and had more generous portions. I might come back again in the future to order something else. For menudo, you are better off going someplace else. read more

The crispy tacos! We went here one morning while on Thanksgiving visit. My dad wanted to go because he knew about it and loved it. I definitely wanted to go because not only did he recommend, but so did the Yelp-ers. My family got menudo, burritos, typical cafe breakfasts, etc. I wanted some good tacos, something simple and straight forward. I feel if a place can make crispy, flavorful tacos, creamy side of beans, and fluffy rice, they can do a lot of other things good too. Loved it. The tacos were "fried" on the griddle a little before hardening to form the crispy crunchy taco shell. These weren't just your store-bought corn tortillas bought en masse to fill the needs of the cafe. These were homemade, or at least looked and tasted that way. The meat was just enough to fill the bottom and was mized with some crispy/chewy potato bits. It was then filled with some simple tomatoes, lettuce, avocado, and fresh muenster cheese (a popular cheese among southwest Tex-icans). They were sooo good. the beans were creamy, and only a an accent of cheese, not smothered in it to kill the taste of the beans. The rice was fluffy and needed no salt,--which was really surprising. Good Luck is an El Paso institution. It is incredibly good Mexican food at outrageously low prices. They're a lunch time favorite, so call your order in early for pick up! If you're looking to sit and have lunch, I would recommend going later, around 1 or so. They have a lunch special of the day, which is usually incredibly tasty! The service is back to basics. You get your drink, your food, your drink refills, and your check. It works in this type of fast paced sit down restaurant. Most of the servers speak spanish, but can easily understand you in english. My only wish was they were open 24 hours for all late night eats and hangover prevention conventions!
