I was trying to do a Yelp check in to this place near my work and realized out of the handful of times that I have been here, I had yet to review it. I could swear I had but then I am getting more forgetful in my 50's....... I like the skillet with the chicken fried steak but always hold off on the gravy and get a little bit only on the side. So in picture you will see why I do that but basically although gravy is good they put way too much of it all over the delicious chicken fried steak cut up pieces, yummy country style potatoes and the usually perfectly cooked over medium eggs I order. I messed up, forgot, not their fault so with hesitation I proceeded to eat the whole thing and do a gravy scavenger hunt for potatoes, eggs, and chicken fried steak pieces. It was still great tasting but just have to ask for gravy ON THE SIDE, otherwise your just having gravy soup. Not complaining just saying.... Still ate all of it‍‍. The vibe is great they have local artists paintings on the wall of this very clean, warm, and friendly cafe. The service is always efficient and they tend to be very busy on weekends so today was nice to just walk in, still pretty busy but no wait list. They have outside seating next to the big old school street clock on sidewalk. Today I overheard one of the waitresses, (Rose), complimenting the very young and obviously new hostess on her work ethic and how "impressed I am with you, you are always looking for something productive to do and not just trying to look busy, your great, keep it up". That was great to hear from someone that seems to be a professional and very good waitress to someone starting up in this very difficult service job. Hands down my favorite breakfast spot in Vallejo! It's always a great day at Good Day Cafe! I started coming here a few years ago as a bunch of Dads from my daughter's school decided to frequent local establishments for breakfast at least once a month to show our love and support for the Vallejo community. The first time I ate here for breakfast, it became my immediate favorite! The ambiance, people, service, and food are all SOLID! Shout out to Rose for always taking care of us regularly. My go to favorites are as follows: corned beef hash with fried rice and eggs, fried pork chops with fried rice and eggs, chicken fried steak, over easy eggs and potatoes, biscuits and gravy, and the peanut butter and banana waffle. Can't go wrong with any of it! I grew up here in the V, moved away, and then returned over a decade later. I never frequented local establishments until I got older because as a kid growing up in the 90s, our parents always said "we have food at home!". Now that I'm grown, I can ignore that saying because I just don't wanna cook or do dishes sometimes. LOL! Good Day Cafe is a always a winner. The is the BEST BREAKFAST I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! Ok I know I sound like Will Ferrell in Elf when he was like "oh my god congrats on being worlds best coffee" but really the food is amazing. Its real food, like homestyle potatoes, THICK bacon, delicious eggs. I got the corned beef hash and eggs and dont have a picture to post cause I didnt put my fork down till the plate was empty it was so yum. Crispy corned beef with peppers and onions and also the biscuits taste homemade like fresh out of the oven !!!!!! Came here for the first time for a breakfast date with my son. It was around 930am on Veteran's Day which explains the 20 minute wait. The inside gives warm, cozy vibes with the nook at the window you can sit while waiting. They were well staffed for a busy day. I didn't have to wait get on the waitlist. The menu had a great selection! My son got the Mickey Mouse pancakes with bacon which he loved. He loved the hot chocolate with sprinkles even more! I got the corn beef hash with eggs and bacon fried rice and cornbread. I LOVED how there's a huuuge selection of sides! Cornbread was delish, but I wasn't impressed with the corn beef and my rice was cold inside :( Also my eggs were runny and I asked for over well ;( I'll still give 3 stars because the pancakes were good, cornbread was warm and delish, and exceptional service. read more

Me and my husband ate here a few months ago for the first time. We got our food to go and was surprised that they charge 10% for to go orders. When "we" asked about a senior discount, that offset the 10%. The food was pretty good. The next time we ate there and the food and service was good, but that place needs some serious cleaning. The carpet looks 50 years old, the walls had dust bunnies on them as if they were part of the decor. The final time we went (yes against my better judgement we went back, the food is pretty descent for Vallejo eateries) my food was not good. I had waffles and they were gummy and they charged me $3.50 because I wanted turkey sausage instead of the breakfast meat that came with my waffles. There were 3 little sausages and they were mushy. Maybe there was a different cook, but the lack of cleanliness was enough to make me not want to go back. read more

Family friendly, home style good food. Arrived early Sunday morning around 7:45am. A few people were already seated. Waitress was very attentive. We were seated right away. I ordered hot cocoa! I even loved the mug. I ordered eggs, hash browns and toast. I ordered a bacon fried rice order to go. My friend ordered a waffle, eggs and sausage. Everything was delicious. As we were enjoying our breakfast. It slowly became pleasantly crowded. It definitely appears to be the place to be on Sunday morning for breakfast. Had the daily special today-chicken apple sausage, sun dried tomatoes & artichoke hearts omelette. DELICIOUS!! I was upset to see a DoorDash employee who was picking up two orders waiting for the second order while the first order was getting cold. He did this even after one of the restaurant staff told him the second order would take a while and he should deliver the first order and come back. He was still there when the second order was ready (approximately 20-30 minutes later) and so was the first order. The same staff member made a comment that the first order was now cold. I feel bad about only giving 3 stars but there were some hits and some misses. Our brunch was fine but not great. Maybe we just came at an off time or didn't order the right things. SERVICE: 5 stars for servers who were attentive and nice. Kitchen was 1.5 stars for poor timing and inconsistent quality (3 of us ate most of our toast/bread before our meals arrived while my MIL was 5 minutes into her waffle). I even heard the servers telling the kitchen to give them the spam and eggs when the rest of us already had our plates. FOOD: 3 stars since it was a mix. Hash browns were crispy and very good. Garden omelette was stiff (no fluff) with unseasoned veggies. Spam and eggs with cornbread: spam was dry/too salty and cornbread tasted like it was from a box. Coffee was good. Waffle with fruit was good. Fried pork chop (which was recommended) was tough. Fried rice was good SETTING: 3 stars. Easy street parking. Clean and comfortable with indoor or outdoor options. It's an eclectic mix of styles but it doesn't seem intentionally so. Could use some updating. Overall, there are so many options on the menu (ideally a nice idea), but the kitchen clearly couldn't execute all of them well. I'd rather have fewer options with all of them tasting great. I've been to good Day Café a few times. For their omelettes they cook the egg and then they just fold the stuff that you want inside it. I hate it when they are cooked that way. Obviously I did request that the items be cooked into the egg omelette. It's a simple fix, but you gotta make sure you ask for it or you might be disappointed with your omelette. They have outdoor seating which is nice. But there's always that issue that I think they forget their people outside lol. I was always looking for coffee because it didn't come easy. Lol I had a breakfast special. It was a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich served on waffle. It worked great for me because I just took the waffle off and dipped it in syrup and I had sweet and savory breakfast. Great hang over food LOL! My mom wanted to get breakfast so we went to try out this place! Pretty large menu and great choices for as a breakfast diner. The fried rice option was interesting to me so I had to order it and I was not disappointed! My only complaint with my order of chicken fried steak and eggs was that the gravy was a little salty. Good Day Cafe is located in Old Town Vallejo, an area still holding up after all these years and may even be on the rebound these days. Had the chance to have breakfast here this morning. They open early here at 7am and I was there and it was pretty well occupied by customers. The interior is a bit old, cold and outdated with cold lighting but with interesting local art on the walls. The breakfast menu has a lot of items such as scrambles, regular egg orders, and the usual unhealthy guilty pleasures like pancakes, French Toast and waffles. I tried the corn beef hash and eggs and it came with hash browns and toast. The hash browns weren't that good for some reason. They were cooked right but the oil had a bad after taste. It was clean tasting (not stale cooking oil thankfully) but didn't taste great for some reason. I make hash browns with olive oil on my own and they taste much better. The eggs were good and the corn beef hash wasn't bad. Not enough greens cooked with them. The orange garnish had no flavor either. Same with the coffee. Just got by though I don't think I'd order it again if I ate here again. Breakfast menu items didn't look great to me for whatever reason as if each dish was missing a vegetable or protein that would make it interesting. I chose the corn beef hash in eggs because it mentioned garlic but didn't taste any in my order. Service was decent and I love the music played here, lots of 60's and 70's Mowtown. read more

I get it, small biz is struggling and everyone is trying to make up for the time we all lost during shut down, but deng! Menu items are average bay area prices $12-$15 a dish. They have a large menu. I liked that they had different options for sides like bacon fried rice instead of hashbrowns (which I ordered and it was delicious). The food was good and satisfying but would I come here again by default? Probably not. Came here with my mom and uncle for breakfast. Was my first time at this little gem in Vallejo. We stopped in on a Monday morning, and it was busy (so you know it's good)! YUMSAUCE!!! (All three exclamation points are necessary.) Stopped by with mi familia for a sweet Sunday brunch and fell in love with this little breakfast spot's tasty grub. There was an outside patio, but the five of us sat in a booth inside instead. Our server, Darrell, made sure our visit was special and memorable. From the cutesy message mugs to the single packs of Cholula, all of the little details added up to an epic dining experience. I will say that we waited a long time. Over 30 minutes. Our waiter didn't ignore us or forget about us at all during this time and acknowledged the wait. He came over to apologize and brought us complimentary cornbread (meh, wasn't that good to us, but it was true hospitality) and when our meal eventually arrived, we all forgot about the wait. I've been here too many times!! The food is so tasty and the service is great! Usually get the french toast combo but there's a lot of options on the menu. My favorite is the cornbread! It's a little on the pricier side for American breakfast but the portions are big so it makes up for it. Weekends are usually busy but I have never had to wait. The seating is spaced out and it's just the right amount of chatter in the morning. I come here every time someone I know visits Vallejo. I've been here a few times in the past and have had nothing but good experiences. However, this was my first time back under the new ownership and sadly, it was disappointing. To start, we were told it would be a 20-25 minute wait for a table. Which we were fine with. We were seated at right around that time frame and that's where the issues began. It took 25 minutes before someone finally came to our table to get our drink orders. My wife had to go back inside to remind them that we were there. Our waiter came out (more on him later) and was very apologetic. He told us that somehow we were put down as a delivery and not as diners. Mistakes happen, that's fine. The second issue was our entrees all coming out 10 minutes apart from one another. My wife and I received our entrees, 10 minutes later two more entrees came out, then another 10 minute gap before the last two came out (we were a table of 6). Frustrating. The third issue was my food. I wasn't overly hungry so I just ordered the cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. The positives were the fries were delicious and I could tell the burger was hand rolled and fresh (not a pre-made, frozen patty). The downside was the burger had absolutely no seasoning what-so-ever. Not even salt. Just a bland (but to be fair, juicy) burger. The rest of the table seemed to enjoy their entrees. I'll end this with a positive because I think it's deserved. Our waiter went above and beyond to make all this up to us. He apologized profusely, offered us free deserts, and took 10% off the bill. None of what happened here was his fault but he still did everything he could to turn it around. I wish I remembered his name but he was tall with short black hair and a beard. Top notch service from him and he's the sole reason this review is a three star instead of a two. read more
