Most people that know me, know I am obsessed with bubble tea or some would say boba tea. I've seen so many good reviews on Gong Cha, I was so excited when I ran across this while in the area! First of all the decor is adorbs! It's fun and chic at the same. It's located on campus in College Park which is next door to a Poké bowl place. The vibe of this place is fun, chill, and the music is a mix of old school and current songs. This was my first time here and Justin made my experience memorable. He was friendly and made great recommendations! My friend doesn't really care for boba but she enjoyed her mango slushy with boba and I loved my matcha slushy with boba. I saw them make my slushy and it appeared they put some type of cream in it and omg that made it taste so delicious! I wish there was a location closer to me. I stumbled upon Gong Cha whole hunting for a boba place that stayed open on Christmas Eve and was pleasantly surprised. It is located on Terrapin Row, inside the UMD campus. We ordered bubble tea which were all excellent! There are options on the menu that can be modified if discussed with the cashier, for instance I wanted a mango milk tea and although it wasn't on the menu I got what I wanted, so I really appreciated that accommodation! Ambiance is amazeballs! The interior is pretty and there are screens where you can plug in video games and enjoy. There is also a poki and ramen station, which I didn't order from but will most likely do so sometime in the future. Love this place!! Everyone is super helpful, it's fast and they don't mind explaining the menu, offering a taste and they always serve with a smile. We ventured out for a craving of the mango smoothie with strawberry foam and my qqPassionfruit special. It was delish! Also because if COVID-19 they have a temperature monitor that all you have to do is stand next to and it reads it within seconds!! WHAT AN AWESOME and SAFE WAY to serve customers and service! It totally eased the choice of stopping here and really took the nervousness to a calmer level and allowed me to enjoy my drink with ease. I think ALL ESTABLISHMENTS should follow this. My most beloved bubble tea place!! As a UMD student, I come here all the time--pretty much every week! It's located right off campus, and it's always crowded during the semesters, even on a weekday afternoon. The tea has great flavor, and the pearls are always cooked perfectly with just the right amount of syrup. I've tried the Pearl Milk Tea, Matcha Milk Tea, Brown Sugar Milk Tea, Oolong Milk Tea, Mango Green Tea, Passionfruit Green Tea, Honey Green Tea, Lemon Winter Melon Tea, Strawberry Green Tea, Mango Smoothie, Matcha Smoothie, Peach Yogurt Smoothie, and the Matcha Egg Waffle. (That's probably not all, actually lol). I'm rarely unhappy with a drink I order from here. The ones I've been more disappointed with have been some of the fruity teas that were a bit bland and lacked boldness of flavor. This hasn't happened often for me though. My favorites I've tried are probably the Brown Sugar Milk Tea drinks (super delicious though not the healthiest option!), Mango Smoothie, Matcha Smoothie, Strawberry Green Tea, and Honey Green Tea. The interior is very cool looking, and it has a decent seating area in the back! This is one of my favorite meetup spots to hang out with friends. However, like I said, it gets packed, not to mention it shares a building with two other food stands, so it's often pretty crammed. They play music (top hits) pretty loudly, which is fun, but it may not be the best place for intentional conversations or studying (although I do see people studying here pretty often). read more

Can't believe a new location opened up in College Park! If I lived on UMD's campus I would definitely visit here all the time. When I first walked in, I noticed it was connected to another restaurant, Poki Fish, which is nice if you want to grab some food along with the bubble tea. What drew me to the inside was not only the calming aesthetic, but the fact that it was a big enough space where you can come hang out with friends while enjoying some boba. And it also seemed like a quiet spot to study (then again because it's winter break there aren't that many students on campus so who knows how loud it is when it gets packed??) I've been to other Gong Cha locations and I think this one lives up to the hype. This time around I got wintermelon milk tea (my favorite!!) and purple sweet potato smoothie which I honestly wouldn't recommend but it was interesting trying something different! read more

Another super convenient location has been added for my favorite bubble tea spot! And like the one near my job, it also shares a space with Poki DC, my favorite poke bowl place. This new location is at Terrapin Row, more specifically a little cafe area called The Spot Mini, which didn't even exist when I was a student at UMD. I am so jealous of all the great stuff the students have access to now! There's plenty of parallel street parking to choose from. Once inside, Poki DC is to the left, and Gong Cha is straight ahead. Like the other locations, the menu breaks down the ability to adjust ice and sweet levels (except smoothies) and all of the different types of teas to choose from. The staff were very helpful to my sister, who was exploring all of the vegan options. I was reminded of how this place does not have coconut milk, and it actually turns out that a lot of the bubble / jelly options have gelatin, so my sister couldn't actually have them! I learned quite a bit from the questions she asked, and while they may not have as many vegan options as I thought, there are still plenty to choose from. I got the Grapefruit Ai-Yu w/ White Pearls with no ice and 50% sweetness. It couldn't have been better! The rest of my family enjoyed their bubble teas as well. My drink was really disappointing. I ordered a Purple Sweet Potato Milk Tea. The powder wasn't completely mixed in, so there were powder clumps in the drink. I ordered 30% ice and that was a mistake because my drink came out kind of warm instead of cold. I ordered less sugar and maybe I shouldn't have done that because the taste was super bland. The tapioca pearls were alright. The person working the cash register made my experience feel awkward and uncomfortable. I was craving a milk tea and came away disappointed. I come this location pretty often now because it's very close to where I live. It's inside the Spot Mini which is a smaller version of the Spot for UMD campus. They have friendly and fast service here which is good. I usually either get the strawberry or mango green tea with bubbles (pearl) and they seem to usually make it the same every time with rare hiccup where it doesn't taste as good. Still one of my favorite places for bubble tea and it has become more convenient for me to grab some. I'd recommend trying this location for folks around the area, but I am sure they get a lot of student customers on daily basis. The only issue for me going to this location is the limited parking which I need to pay. There's no parking lot so I have to park on the street but it's limited usually and you have to pay via station or app. Luckily I have the app otherwise I'd be less inclined to go. read more

Great place to grab boba. Gong Cha has always been a great go-to boba place for me, and now that College Park has one I've gone almost ten times within the last three weeks. This Gong Cha is located in the Spot Mini under Terrapin Row, which is near Commons 1 and a little bit off of Route 1 and it is pretty convenient for people living near T-Row. While the boba can be pricey at times, just depending on what you get, almost everything on the menu is superb and worth the cost. My personal favorites are the strawberry fresh milk black tea, brown sugar fresh milk black tea, and the strawberry (or mango) marbled green tea. The wintermelon milk foam is also a really good (and cheaper) choice. Another thing I really like about this Gong Cha is the building it is in. The Spot Mini is a very attractive place to hang out in. It has a nice aesthetic to it and if you have not been there you should definitely go at least once. There is also a lot of seating, so don't worry about not being able to find a seat when it's getting busy. Another thing that is great about the Spot Mini is how well kept it is. The tables and bathrooms are consistently cleaned and even the games are very clean. Gong Cha is definitely my go-to boba spot on campus now, and with the many places that have boba at College Park it really says a lot about the quality of their drinks. read more
